Instructions
1. Download the latest release (not the files named "Source code") from the Releases page.
2. Extract the archive to the root directory of a USB drive. (It should be formatted with FAT32 or NTFS and only have one partition.)
3. Plug the USB drive into your TV. (Make sure it's the only USB drive connected.)
4. Open the USB drive in the Music app and browse to lol$(sh$IFS$(find$IFS/tmp.
5. Try to play the MP3 file (usb$IFS-maxdepth${IFS}3$IFS-name${IFS}autoroot.sh)).mp3). You should expect to see an error message about being unable to play the MP3 whether or not the exploit works.
6. After the pop-up messages tell you rooting is complete, eject the USB drive.
If you have the LG Developer Mode app installed, you must remove it before rebooting. Do not install it while your TV is rooted.
Isn't there a homebrew app that does macros or something?
My TV has a problem where it will keep reverting to the TV speaker, I keep setting it to HDMI ARC but when I switch the TV on half the time it will either not switch on my AVR at all or it will switch it on but the speaker will still be set to TV speakers and I have to switch it to HDMI ARC manually, it rarely works how it's supposed to and it's a huge PITA.
So can I use a homebrew app that will send a macro command to set the TV to HDMI ARC at boot or shortly after?
Nothing that I’m aware of, i doubt any app can delve into the tvs settings.
@@MATechRUclips well I was watching some video about the TV executing the PS5 jailbreak and they said there is some kind of macro app and that you can set it up to perform the jailbreak when you press a number button or when you turn the TV on
I forget the name of the app and the video went to quick for me to see the other options and it didn't really get into using it for anything other than doing the jailbreak
There is. But its very unstable and does need root.

This TV is a POS (C1 OLED 55)
Not only is the OS unstable but even if I root and install an app to try and correct it that will be unstable too
This TV has been nothing but problems and everyone talks up LG but their TV's are lire garbage
@@andreamitchell4758 Its called LG Input Hook. You can find it on Homebrew Channel but its very unstable and will brick your TV if you are irresponsible.
Hello. When we follow these tutorial, and when we plugged the USB to the TV, and when we opened the Music app, it said "the file is empty". My TV Model: 32LM6300PLA Firmware: 05.40.20 Please, help me as soon as possible.
If you follow the steps exactly as I advised it will be able to see 2 files in the tmp folder.
If you’re not seeing that then you’ve not formatted the usb correctly or haven’t saved the files correctly so go back to the webpage and make sure you follow the instructions exactly as advised and it will work.

What else do you have on the usb stick? Is the folder saved in the main directory of the usb stick (and not zipped)?
USB stick has unzipped folder inside music.

I followed the steps from 1-5 and did see an error message about being unable to play the MP3 whether or not the exploit works. But didn't see the pop-up messages tell the rooting is complete or anything about rooting. Anything I might miss in steps? thanks
How many files did you see? Should be 2 for it to work.

Then it should work unless you’ve updated your tv and as a result the exploit patched
I don't want to try this without knowing all the specifics ..but my c1 is at 03.40.85 firmware...I don't see any available ways to patch ..am I missing something.. your method is for 3.5 and above..any tips or guidance would be appreciated .

You can’t, it’s not the same OS for them to work.
Closest would be Kodi and then do some research on how to set it up for what you’re looking for.
I am happy to report that after following this YT tutorial my 55 UJ635V with webOS 3.9.2 was rooted successfully. However I am less happy to report that it was mostly useless because whatever I try to install ends with an error ( fails to download the package with "stream failed, reason: unable to get local issuer certificate" ). :)
Have you used a different method previously? If so then this won’t work.
Also check the website to see if your firmware has been patched by LG as they’ve put out 2 firmware updates since this was released and if you have automatic updates enabled you’ve probably updated.
@@MATechRUclips As I have mentioned, with the method that you have described the TV _was_ rooted. It is true that I did try another method some time ago but meanwhile I reset it to factory defaults ( twice ). Last firmware update issued by LG ( v 6.10.50 ) was 18 months ago and at the time I did not care about rooting so I did allow the TV to update to that version. Meanwhile I disabled the updates.
I enabled ssh and I will try to fiddle around, see what gives.

There is a guide on fixing this issue on homebrew discord server, it worked for me on webos 05.40.20

i used to install the old method but it failed now i use this new method and it said i was success to íntall the homebrew but when i tried to install the app it give me the error anyway i can fix it ?
If you’ve tried the old method then it probably won’t work.
Basically the only thing I can imagine working would be a hardware reset on the tv but I definitely wouldn’t do that and lose all my picture settings so best bet would be to contact the developer using the link in the description and see if they can suggest anything.

Hi. I tested this with my LG NANO796NE web os. 5.5.0-19 fw. 04.50.90 and same as others music player not do nothing when clicking mp3 file.. .

i bought my c9 used. I tried the method and got Homebrew on. I think the previous owner already had the TV rooted but reset it. Sadly, i can't download any apps. What's the bypass for that?
Manual mode which you’ll need to do your own research for as it’s not straight forward and there’s too much that could go wrong for me to offer anyone guidance on a RUclips video.

The icon you’re referring to is the homebrew channel updater which stays installed (as does RUclips or any other app you download) even when you remove homebrew until you go and manually uninstall it.

Bro by using your method which is using pc to connect to TV downloading dev option then connecting it to laptop and install homebrew and from here installed youtube but if i want to try this method than what should i do?.. Is it ok to continue the use of previous method or this new is good than old method and i think the old method was done without rooting
If you read the website it clearly states you cannot use dev mode with this method.
I did everything in the video, and it worked but it won't let me install anything, this is the first time I've done something to my television, it has version 05.40.20

No seriously though, check that you have the main downloaded folder in the root directory of the usb stick and that is formatted in fat32.
Alternatively try your photo/video player app so my tv used the dedicated music app but it may differ on other models. Ideally you want to play it using the music app as the tv is tricked into thinking it’s a mp3 file but for that you need to have both files present.
Can you uninstall LG protected app after rooted? I'm talking about app like "LG channels" or "Alexa".
Not using this, I’m sure there probably is a way but this app isn’t made for that.

You’ve probably updated your tv which means it’s patched from what I’ve read.
Contact the developers and they’ll should be able to confirm based on your firmware

As I see on homebrew dejavu which is the files in this video are being patched at 3.5 and up so I don't think version 4.4 or 5.x are already patched but they are in progress.
After the message of cannot read the mp3... Nothing happens i have version 5.70.35
It should prompt you to restart, run it again and ensure you have dev mode disabled.

Every fresh tv I’ve tried this on it’s worked so something must be wrong.
Not sure what exactly you want me to do, I didn’t create the exploit so can’t help you with troubleshooting, I’m just bringing you the method.

Check the website for the firmwares supported, the tv I tested this on had the latest firmware installed and still worked.

When did you try the dev app? That has to be disabled for this method to work.

This method doesn’t work for you because you’ve already stated you used developer mode and as stated in the video and on the website you cannot have developer mode enabled to use this method 🤦🏽♂️
I got this all to work except for installing RUclips Ad-Free. When I try to install, it says an error occurred during the installation. Reason: Unable to get local issuer certificate. I am not sure why since this is my first time with the homebrew or anything of the sort. Does anyone know a work around or an alternative repository? 😅

This is the issue with most people posting it didn’t work for them, you can’t expect exploits to work if you have automatic updates enabled.
The recent update canceled my antenna channels and the scan won’t pick them up. Help
I don’t use live tv channels so can’t help you there I’m afraid.
If it’s a result of an update then content LG and report it as a bug and they may be able to help you.

you probably cannot because the apps need to be in /media/developer partition(/dev/testing1).
hi bro,..same like others,..i used LG OLED TV E6 w/ os 05.07++ after I follow all instruction..they just warn file is not recognized..that it..nothing happen after that..not such like installed finish/completed or even appear restart notif. before that I also tried rootmy.tv but only appear dev mode..not a homebrew...please help us,..

Hi I tried doing this but only shows 1 mp3 file on TV instead of 2 and when I open mp3 file nothing happens. I tried going on rootmy.tv but just comes up with error message "closed". I have lg 49ub850v 2017 tv with software version 05.06.10, any guidance?

You need to check the files you downloaded and make sure you’re using the correct music player or photos and video player depending on your tv.
If you’ve just used the website method then most likely you’ve ruined any chances of it working for you now.

Check the website to make sure your tv meets the spec required then, if it doesn’t then this won’t work. This is for any LG tv roughly 2015-2023 from what I remember but you need to have a music player for this method to work.

If you want to keep the home brew app working then you should disable updates as lg love to patch any working exploits.
If you don’t mind losing the root exploit then leave updates enabled.
