      I can't think of any suburban railway that runs at 75mph. The train was in immaculate condition, the track was in immaculate condition, the drivers timing was immaculate. I didn't see one piece of litter in the whole video. Also, how big is that city?

    His pre-departure pointing motion confirms that the departure signal is green(proceed), the control indication on the ground is in limited express(kaitoku:快) mode, and the automatic train stopping system on the car (called ATS in Japan, but commonly called ATP worldwide) is functioning effectively.
    Not only this, but it is common in Japan to point to and call out traffic lights and signs. This is an action to prevent human error and ensure safety. It is the same as when an airplane pilot does not read the checklist silently.

    • @acmenipponair

      Yes, and it's effective. We humans realize stuff more easily, when we call it out.

      Do Japanese trains have drivers' reminder appliances (button to push to temporarily lock train when at a danger aspect/in a station/otherwise stopped) or no?

    • @youcanpunchmeintheface
      @youcanpunchmeintheface 2 года назад +19

      @@JettisonTheSupreme There are plenty type of ATS (ATP) in Japan, only in ATS-S type, there will be loud alarm when the train passes transponder of yellow signal. Then driver has to confirm else emergency braking applied in seconds. After the confirmed loud alarm it will turns into continuous chime as reminder that the next signal is danger, while driver continues deceleration. After the driver stopped, they can reset the chime and wait till the signal turns into less prohibitive aspect. The example s here ruclips.net/video/BH7G2V0mqdE/видео.html
      ATS-P works in different way as the transponder automatically creates brake profile that driver has to adhere else it will activate emergency brake. There's no chime as it works automatically.
      Keikyu use different type of ATS (named C-ATS), as it employs continuous inductive loop combined with track circuit to denotes rail block. Speed limit and brake profile information is sent from the inductive loop to the train-borne receiver and displayed in a display. There are stop overrun protection profile, overspeed protection, and even throttle cut system if the train is in excessive speed. The system is too complicated to explain in a comment section without picture but it's more intrusive than ATS-P and ATS-S as it's continuously monitored. Honestly to me it's way closer to ATC as opposed to ATS. The working example is here ruclips.net/video/0VHy48Hvn6o/видео.html
      Each company uses their own proprietary ATP, both derivative of JR ATS or in-house system. There are many more interesting system such as ATC (which has shitload of variation too such as WS-ATC CS-ATC D-ATC, with different enforcement system), ATACS (derivation of CBTC), TASC (works in tandem with ATS/ATC and semi-ATO or ATO which helps driver to stop precisely in station).

    Congrats on a great video. I’ve caught the Airport Express many times from Keikyu Higashi Kanagawa (formerly called Nakakido) to Haneda Airport on numerous business trips. At Keikyu Kamata the train reverses along a branch to Haneda and usually calls at all stops from there to the airport. Certainly brings back lots of memories.

    This is the very best view from the cab of all cab ride videos on RUclips. It is also, in terms of quality, perhaps the best and only video on RUclips, of all public transport videos because it is without fluctutions of focus which plague most if not all other videos which have been shot with so-called Action Cameras which inherently cannot cope with motion, especially at speed.
    The audio with your video is excellent.
    The only thing missing is is a blue sky. Otherwise top marks. Well done.

And we usually say: "Just get the cheapest you can find (but run it through us to check) as long as it's next to a train station and in crawling distance of an Izakaya and ramen restaurant. We don't mind the train trips."

    I love the Japanese railway, here in my country, in the Argentine Railway local trains of Japanese origin have been used since the early 1960s after Japanese and English companies demonstrated the characteristics of their most recent electric models, they are from the "Toshiba" company with participation of 東急株式会社 (Tokyu Car) and 日本車輌製造株式会社 (Nippon Sharyo), approximately "Ferrocarriles Argentinos" bought more than 1000 Toshibas electric train cars from Japan from the 60's to the mid 80's, Japanese Model fulfilled the high expectations and proved to be more efficient than the models presented by the Companies of England. They soon gained the acceptance and affection of the people who even began to give nicknames to the different formations such as "Payaso", "Heladera", "Chapa" etc.
    The trains continue to operate to this day, although in 2013 there were several formations out of service, many are still seen on the General Urquiza Railway and General Roca Railway (These are Lines in charge of making different routes in the Argentine capital).
    My country has much to thank Japan for, without it we would not have been able to electrify many of our railway lines, we have very close railway relations with the Eastern country...
    Argentina is after the United States the country with the largest electrified railway network in both South America and North America, one of the largest railways in the world, a pioneer in the use of an underground service, inaugurating the first underground line in 1913, Argentina being the 2nd country after the United States to have a subway here in the West, we owe all this to the help of Japan and the United Kingdom.
    PS: Ferrocarriles Argentinos was a company that owned all the country's railway lines from the end of the 40's to the beginning of the 90's, before the foundation of the company all the country's railway lines were owned by English companies)
    Thanks for read my comment and sorry for my bad English hehe 😅

    • @しおんぬ-i9p
      @しおんぬ-i9p 2 года назад +10

      Controllers in Japanese rolling stock are generally designed with the assumption that the lever will be tipped forward when the driver loses consciousness. It's simply a difference in design philosophy.
      Other safety devices include an emergency brake if the driver takes his hands off the controller or if a certain amount of time passes without operation.
