As someone who was 'friends' with taller/bigger characters back in the day I can assure you there are some horrifying failed Pete costumes in storage or a dump somewhere. When I worked there they had done two different Mock-up Pete costumes and both never were seen by the public and only exist as costume fitting photos. One had a cigar molded to the head, which was deemed too 'offensive' and the other was just all sorts of werid proportions trying to mix menacing with approachable. Another issue was the overall just weight of the costume and the lack of mobility when trying to interact compared to the rest of the toon gang. Hopefully the new costume technology we have today will make a Pete more accessible if they attempt the costume again.

That’s that tall mouse with the hat… I only remember him cause of the Mickey Mouse clubhouse episode that he was a bad guy and he kept on saying “ hat cha cha!” And he had that orange suit and orange blimp and he shrunk Mickey and put him into a ball thing… I watch too many cartoons. 😅

I think Pete would be great in the parks. He'd be great presenting shows while insulting all the characters, only for Mickey to come on and get him off to actually present the show, and other stuff like that.
That's actually a really good point. I think that would be a great fit for him. Don't even worry about trying to figure out how he can move around, just make him stationary, kind of like how Mr. Potato Head. Pete might actually work best as some really cool, animatronic that you can interact with and talk to. That would be pretty fun and you wouldn't have to worry about his size or mobility being a problem for cast members.

My two nieces went to Disney World for the first time this past March and all they wanted to see was Pete...needless to say, very disappointed girls left the Magic Kindgom that day.
I have this theory. Since Pete is the OG Disney villain, Disney wants to keep this mystique around him that makes him seem genuinely evil. Cruella Deville and the Queen from Snow White will bite their lip and sign autographs. But not Pete. He is a genuinely pure evil character who passionately hates children and can not and SHOULD not be trusted around them. That's what I like to think anyway.

@@WC6 That's what I love about the Paris and Tokyo. Both Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disney Resort loves giving love to Disney's lesser-known and obscure Disney Characters. Something I wish the U.S. Disney Parks (mainly WDW) would take cues from. At least Disneyland is slowly taking the Paris and Tokyo approach recently where the introduction of Toulouse and Berlioz from The Aristocats beginning in mid-November 2019. Tokyo even has a statue for Danny the Lamb from the 1947 live-action film "So Dear To My Heart" at Westernland.

You really need to watch Treasure Planet and Atlantis because they are gorgeous ❤ We most definitely need more Pete representation in the parks, especially with his huge role in Kingdom Hearts. He's just such a fun villain!

The first time we went to WDW my son was three and the character he most wanted to see was Pete. We tried explaining that Pete might not be there but he was determined. We decided to take a pic with the sign at Pete's silly sideshow but it's not the same as a character. Maybe one day! Thanks for another great video!!

I used to be a character performer at Disney World, and I did ask why there was no Pete costume/character, and I was told that it does exist, but he scared kids so badly that they never bring him out.
I'd love to see a Pete meet and greet. The look on my Dad's face when he saw Scrooge McDuck was awesome but Scrooge ain't is favorite. Pete though is his favorite character and I'd LOVE to see him meet Pete in the parks.

Even appearing in the early Universal era shorts (1928 to early 1930s). btw I would love to see a costume evolution on Oswald as I've been wondering if there was ever a costume of Oswald during his time at Universal. Spent a week of training becoming "friends with the characters" and just wanted to say that Brer Bear's head is huge, heavy, and very unwieldy. Imagine, if you will, a cylinder around your head balancing a rock the shape of Goofy's head on top, and that is how I would make a Brer Bear costume since none exist (wink). Not much going on up there. But my biggest regret was not spending more time with my favorite character Baloo. That being said I would love to see an evolution of Baloo in the parks!
And now he’s finally in the Disney Parks! Well at least at Disneyland he is. Just yesterday I found about the new Toontown and got so excited when I found out that Pete was finally meetable!
Even if Pete is considered obscure, theres been plenty of other obscure characters who pop up from time to time in the parks. Pete's absence is indeed really strange
Exactly, Horace is definitely one example of a character who isn't seen as much in media but has a better presence in the parks than Pete. He's currently in Stitch’s Interplanetary Beach Party Blast at Disneyland with Clarabelle (who also doesn't make a lot of appearances in media either and yet she's getting another new costume as one of the Sanderson sisters!)
He's really not obscure at all if you think about it... he's the go to antagonist for anything in Mickey's universe, so you'd figure he'd be there with the other characters
Seriously, this has always bugged me. Pete's literally the oldest reoccurring Disney characters, and one of my favorites of the villains with Judge Doom as an extremely close second. The fact that they made characters like Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow twice but never made a full-on Pete meet and greet despite the aspects of tenure and being a fan favorite baddie has confounded me, especially since Disney Parks always love to do special meet and greet looks and Pete being the most flexible out of the villains in terms of that.

I feel pretty confident that the guy in the parade that you didn't recognize was Jim Hawkins from _Treasure Planet._ I know this because I'm a late 90s/early 2000s kid and was a big fan of Disney's few attempts at sci-fi at that time. I also noticed Kida and Milo from _Atlantis: The Lost Empire_ a little earlier.
Because the image of Pete is actually used so much around the parks, I honestly really never thought about the fact that there isn't any Pete costume. Thanks for the great videos Dan.
I've been thinking about this subject for a long time. Actually, a really long time. I remember when the costumes for Mickey's 90th birthday came out and everyone (well mostly) had an outfit. First, it got me to thinking why they don't include more of Mickey's pals in the lineup, like Daisy or Clarabel or Horace. But then I thought about another character who's really prevalent in Mickey's cartoons but I couldn't remember having a presence in the parks. Of course, that character is Pete. I hope that someday he gets his due. Heck, if they can have Oswald, Ortensia, Clara Cluck, Clarice, and other random characters from Mickey's universe that people aren't generally going to remember - surely they can have Mickey's villain: Pete... also they might as well throw Mortimer in there while they're at it.
Pretty sure that the random woman was supposed to be the dancer (Aurora Miranda) from Three Caballeros when they go to Brazil. Nice to see her and the boy that had the flying donkey. Never would've guessed they'd bother to make those costumes.

Huh that's odd Pete is a big part of the cartoons. He's in a ton of the classic cartoons, the Goofy movies, Goof Troop, Mickey Mouse clubhouse and funhouse, the Roadster Racers, (I have a 4 year old lol) he's in all the shows, and he hasn't been a real BAD GUY in the cartoons since before I was born. He's just not nice and used for teaching not to cheat and stuff. I wonder why they don't use him in the parks. They could make a Black version of the Lotso costume put it in a shirt and some overalls, all they have to do is make a new head. or a recolored Wreck it Ralph, with the new head.

Yeah, Pete is very much everywhere in Disney lore in general including regarding Mickey and Friends yet it bugs me there are no versions of him in the parks.

Part of the problem is that 90% of costumed cast members are as a former employee of the Mouse the height of "most" of the costumed cast members are around 5 feet tall.

I used to be a character performer at Disney World, and I did ask why there was no Pete costume/character, and I was told that it does exist, but he scared kids so badly that they never bring him out.

I'd love to see a Pete meet and greet. The look on my Dad's face when he saw Scrooge McDuck was awesome but Scrooge ain't is favorite. Pete though is his favorite character and I'd LOVE to see him meet Pete in the parks.

the reason pete was in a dog catcher van was bc he had a short where he was exactly that, IN THE 30S lmao. well before cruella even existed, pete did it first (tho he wasn’t skinning them, bc unlike cruella he wasn’t a total monster lmao. he was just the town dog catcher)
Okay, I had no idea Pete was a cat. I guess he's as much a cat as Goofy is a dog. I will say, Pete has made appearances in so many Disney shows. He's been a foil to pretty much every classic Disney character. It's crazy that he doesn't have a costume in the parks.
I'd love to see Pete! I've always had a soft spot for him. I remember being extremely excited just seeing him show up in kingdom hearts

I'm surprised there was no Oswald mention, after all, Pete did appear in the Oswald shorts. Even appearing in the early Universal era shorts (1928 to early 1930s). btw I would love to see a costume evolution on Oswald as I've been wondering if there was ever a costume of Oswald during his time at Universal. I know he appeared in some wall murals during his blue and yellow phase (2004 - until Disney got the rights back) in the park(s).
He was actually in the parks for a short time..around 2013 I believe? Him and his girlfriend but it wasn’t for very long…look up Dave Lee Down Unders vid about the evaluation of Oswald

Spent a week of training becoming "friends with the characters" and just wanted to say that Brer Bear's head is huge, heavy, and very unwieldy. Imagine, if you will, a cylinder around your head balancing a rock the shape of Goofy's head on top, and that is how I would make a Brer Bear costume since none exist (wink). Not much going on up there. But my biggest regret was not spending more time with my favorite character Baloo. That being said I would love to see an evolution of Baloo in the parks!

Even if Pete is considered obscure, theres been plenty of other obscure characters who pop up from time to time in the parks. Pete's absence is indeed really strange
Exactly, Horace is definitely one example of a character who isn't seen as much in media but has a better presence in the parks than Pete. He's currently in Stitch’s Interplanetary Beach Party Blast at Disneyland with Clarabelle (who also doesn't make a lot of appearances in media either and yet she's getting another new costume as one of the Sanderson sisters!)
He's really not obscure at all if you think about it... he's the go to antagonist for anything in Mickey's universe, so you'd figure he'd be there with the other characters

Seriously, this has always bugged me. Pete's literally the oldest reoccurring Disney characters, and one of my favorites of the villains with Judge Doom as an extremely close second. The fact that they made characters like Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow twice but never made a full-on Pete meet and greet despite the aspects of tenure and being a fan favorite baddie has confounded me, especially since Disney Parks always love to do special meet and greet looks and Pete being the most flexible out of the villains in terms of that.
UPDATE: Pete got a meet and greet in time for Toontown's reopening.

I feel pretty confident that the guy in the parade that you didn't recognize was Jim Hawkins from _Treasure Planet._ I know this because I'm a late 90s/early 2000s kid and was a big fan of Disney's few attempts at sci-fi at that time. I also noticed Kida and Milo from _Atlantis: The Lost Empire_ a little earlier.
Because the image of Pete is actually used so much around the parks, I honestly really never thought about the fact that there isn't any Pete costume. Thanks for the great videos Dan.
I've been thinking about this subject for a long time. Actually, a really long time. I remember when the costumes for Mickey's 90th birthday came out and everyone (well mostly) had an outfit. First, it got me to thinking why they don't include more of Mickey's pals in the lineup, like Daisy or Clarabel or Horace. But then I thought about another character who's really prevalent in Mickey's cartoons but I couldn't remember having a presence in the parks. Of course, that character is Pete. I hope that someday he gets his due. Heck, if they can have Oswald, Ortensia, Clara Cluck, Clarice, and other random characters from Mickey's universe that people aren't generally going to remember - surely they can have Mickey's villain: Pete... also they might as well throw Mortimer in there while they're at it.
Pretty sure that the random woman was supposed to be the dancer (Aurora Miranda) from Three Caballeros when they go to Brazil. Nice to see her and the boy that had the flying donkey. Never would've guessed they'd bother to make those costumes.
Pete actually had a walkaround for Toontown 2023 reopening and he got a ton of attention presumably as he had brand new costume.
I’m assuming hundreds have already said this, but Disney just announced that Pete will finally be getting a costumes meet and greet at Toontown when it opens back up.

Huh that's odd Pete is a big part of the cartoons. He's in a ton of the classic cartoons, the Goofy movies, Goof Troop, Mickey Mouse clubhouse and funhouse, the Roadster Racers, (I have a 4 year old lol) he's in all the shows, and he hasn't been a real BAD GUY in the cartoons since before I was born. He's just not nice and used for teaching not to cheat and stuff. I wonder why they don't use him in the parks. They could make a Black version of the Lotso costume put it in a shirt and some overalls, all they have to do is make a new head. or a recolored Wreck it Ralph, with the new head.

Great video I've often wondered why Pete never been seen in parks. Lol the random lady at 9:30 was Jim Hawkins from Treasure Planet followed by the Brazilian lady from Three Caballeros. Yes very random to have her but still cool they featured her. fun fact she is Carmen Miranda's sister and until she was in that parade I never knew the character was named Yaya.

I think the best way to bring him and introduce him to the parks is have him debut as a host for the Villains Mix and Mingle, you know playing on being Mickey’s nemesis.

Yeah, Pete is very much everywhere in Disney lore in general including regarding Mickey and Friends yet it bugs me there are no versions of him in the parks.

I was more inclined to say “Forget Pete, where my Oswald the Lucky Rabbit?” But the point about all the villain-centric events and stuff changed my mind. Not just Pete, but also more villains than just the 90’s renaissance crew (plus Maleficent).

I haven't been to a Disney park in almost 20 years and can't say I've thought that much about Mickey cartoons but Dan's enthusiasm and passion is so infectious that now I'm obsessed with Pete and I, too, demand he get proper representation in the parks!
A cast member at the Sideshow, told me he stays out of the public eye by choice as he can't stand all the happiness. So now that there's a brawl every other day in WDW maybe we'll get to see him 🤔
Well i know its a old video, BUT Pete has FIINALLY made a physical appearance in the newest version of Mickey's Toontown just recently and they are using Pete's modern look.
Pete also squared up against Oswald, so he's basically been antagonizing Mickey's whole family since his inception!

Part of the problem is that 90% of costumed cast members are as a former employee of the Mouse the height of "most" of the costumed cast members are around 5 feet tall.
