@@mareeedensos2805 Yes Toontown was an online PC game for kids. (and their parents) we paid actual money to play it!! 5 bucks a month.. LOL But Disney killed it, and the players went MAD!! We petitioned and complained, and finally some teenager took the software and rebuilt the game without the Disney flavor. Its called Toontown Rewritten, and its available to play for free today!! I built my same carachtar and still play today..

I think Toontown added something more personal to the visit, especially for the kids. You were able to go into the HOMES of the main characters, and that's pretty wild to me (at least at 6 I couldn't get enough of it). My dad would have to drag me out of there. Toontown definitely didn't get the love and attention it deserved in the end, not even a fighting chance.
IF ANYTHING they could have added to it or gave it an upgrade to better fit the times not completely wipe it out. Idk thats just me.

    • @Hugsloth
      @Hugsloth 2 года назад +26

It's amusing that Pete is paid far more respect in Kingdom Hearts than in Disney marketing nowadays. In KH he gets a recurring role across many games and is treated as somewhat of an actual villain with an arc, and even his Frankenstein form Julius is the secret superboss of KH 3DS.
Meanwhile in actual Disney material he hasn't really done much since Goofy Movie.

I worked in Toontown back in 2009 at 11:48 the right nail is missing on the sign. It fell on my head one morning. I've always regretted not keeping it because they never repaired it. I was a character attendant with Mickey and Minnie and Mickey's house was my home. I was in an abusive relationship and working there was the only thing that made me happy. I made friends for life in the Judge's Tent. I was rarely where I was suppose to be and mostly hid out in Mickey's garage blowing bubbles. I loved that bird house that looked like Mickey's house.
I was just in the college program then so after I graduated college I went back to work at Disney World and my new location was Main Street East which had me working in Curtain Call Collectibles where the Mickey meet and greet exited and ironically that house was in there. It was all meant to be.
The first time I went to Circus after it had been changed I bawled on a park bench for about an hour. Cast members came up to me and totally related. It was like a friend had died.
So THANK YOU for doing this video I can't thank you enough and I'll be sharing it with all my Toonies.

    • @Viking_Luchador
      @Viking_Luchador Месяц назад

@@michellehawkins1027 on its own, that's not a bad thing. Parks like Disney and Universal that can afford it should offer you an immersive experience. But when they just half ass it and use even the most superficial connection to cram IP in wherever they can, it hurts the overall environment.
I mean, Remy's fun, and yeah their cuisine is a big part of French culture, but it seems like a stretch. Cosmic Rewind is an awesome ride, but it has nothing to do with the theme of space exploration. I'm sure the Journey of Water is beautifully landscaped, but just because most of Moana took place on a raft is the flimsiest excuse to make it part of The Land; would've been smarter to just add some kind of pan-Pacific pavilion to World Showcase
I think Galaxys Edge is the most overrated land with the most overrated attractions Disney has ever conceived. Star Wars deserves its own park, not a bunch of rocks set during a timeline the majority of the fan base despises.
Now "Tropical Americas" is coming to Animal Kingdom. While I'm glad Chester & Hester's is finally going in the trash, DinoLand as a whole could've been salvaged if they were willing to put in the work. But it's a worthy retheme, and compliments most of the rest of the park. Again, Indiana Jones seems like a stretch, but I guess you could include some exhibits about pre-Columbian kingdoms. But how Encanto remotely fit the theme of conservation or culture? Another idea that seems better suited for a pavilion at Epcot.
Tiana's Bayou Adventure MIGHT have gone on this list, but it seems like there are long-term plans to halve Frontierland, and re designate part of it as New Orleans Square. Frontierland will then rezone past the Railroad tracks like Tomorrowland did for TRON. So far, so good. But the new Frontierland (late 19th century wild west) is being rumored to include Coco (contemporary Mexico) and Cars (not even close). A "ciudad de los muertos" dark ride could work in Fantasyland or maybe the Mexico pavilion (expanded, don't replace Gran Fiesta). Radiator Springs would be best at DHS, or at the very least retheme the dreadful Tomorrowland Speedway

I went in highschool with my orchestra and was looking at the map for 20 minutes it wasn’t until I googled it I realized all of it was gone and got soo sad. Disney has let me down twice in my life the first was them taking away pixie hollow (the website) The other was the moment I realized Mickey and minnies house wasn’t a thing anymore. We still got to ride the tower of terror and the rockin rollercoaster or whatever that was called but the only real fun I had on that trip was when we went to universal studios for a day. We had tickets to both parks and Harry Potter world was the shit. 10/10 recommend Universal studios over Magic kingdom unless you are a huge Disney fanatic and want to go simply for that reason.

I absolutely love reading the memories those of you have shared on this episode and thanks to everyone who took the time to watch the video. Just to quickly address an issue I keep seeing in the comments, I'm going to post the same thing I put on my Twitter account:
To the people asking "Why didn't you include the Toontown fight in the episode?!"
    A. I don't believe in exploiting stuff like that for the sake of views, it was a disgusting incident, and should not be glamorized in any way.
    B. It literally has nothing to do with the story and narrative, so why should I have included it?
I feel heartbroken for the children who had to witness the pointless and violent confrontation. Obviously, I don't know the full story aside from the now widely seen footage, but this episode was in development long before that incident occurred. It could've have happened anywhere in the park, and has in my opinion has zero to do with telling the history of Toontown.

A slight fact correction regarding that 'birthday song' used during the Birthdayland stage show -
It was NOT specifically written for that production as suggested in the video.
The song, 'Happy, Happy Birthday To You' was originally written and released as part of the Disneyland Records album 'Splashdance' in 1983.
The song was re-used in 1985 with slightly altered lyrics as part of the marketing blitz Disney did to promote Donald Duck's birthday.
In 1988, it was 'recycled' yet again for Mickey's Birthdayland.
Thought you would like to know .....

Then again it was mostly based upon a single movie that was already fairly old by the time the land was built. I think Toon town suffered heavily from tying too much of it's theme into a single IP. One Disney surprisingly never made and TV series or sequels to.

It's unfortunate how many interesting things ended up getting removed from ToonTown for safety concerns. Fortunately the trade-off for all this overboard safety concern is that it's now the safest land in the park. I mean, nothing really seriously violent and injurious has ever happened in ToonTown, right? ( My thanks to whoever made this --> ruclips.net/video/g97HltXvGNg/видео.html )

My first Disney trip was in 1995 when I was 3 years old. I was obsessed with disney movies and my folks had always wanted to take me. (They havnt been since back in the 80s) Our first stop was Mickey's Toon Town Fair. We waited to see Mickey and when I finally reached him my first words were "I waited my whole life to meet you!"
Another fond memory is Donald's boat which has water spouts and other things to play in the water. One morning it was very quiet and i was playing alone until a Goofy came up to me and started playing with me.
As an adult I still enjoy Disney immensely... But nothing will ever compare to the pure magic I felt when I was a child. And as much as it breaks my heart that its all gone... I sincerely hope these new installations make magical memories for other children of today

Omg!! A moment to shout-out my ‘Florida mom’, Michelle Amato, singing the birthday-land express song! She talked about & sang this for me a million times, but this is the first time I’ve heard the real thing! 💙 If I’m not mistaken, this was her first Disney session. Her vocal sound became the iconic sound of the parks that we love... Remember The Magic, Spectromagic, & nearly all of their decades-to-follow worth of park shows & entertainment worldwide. I’ll brag about her since she won’t. 😉💕 Love this video!

I grew up watching those original Mickey Cartoons and Who Framed Roger Rabbit on vhs and I was amazed how well it matched the cartoons. I didn’t like when they changed it to match the Disney Jr show appearance in the mid 00s. Glad you included it’s official backstory.

Toontown had safety concerns because at one point it became a place where parents would drop off their kids and leave them unsupervised. They ran around in the trolleys way, climbed up slides, fought with other kids, etc. Mascots and caat members got aick of being babysitters and with good cause.

When I was a little kid, my parents took me to Walt Disney World. Toontown Fair was definitely one of the highlights of that trip. I remember being so excited to meet Mickey Mouse, I ran up to him and ended up knocking him over. 😂
It honestly upset me to hear that it wasn’t going to be there anymore. I actually visited the park while it was being turned into Storybook Circus. And seeing everything walled off and in the process of being dismantled...it felt like watching a piece of my childhood vanish into the ether.
Don’t get me wrong, Storybook Circus is a great addition to Fantasyland. I just wish it didn’t have to come at the cost of losing Toontown Fair.
