Am I the only one who actually misses The Sorcerer’s Hat? I mean, admittedly it WAS a bit of a ridiculous choice that Micheal Eisner made, but it s also a big part of my childhood
Honestly I think the sorcerer's hat was more iconic than the Chinese Theater, then again I think the Chinese Theater was a bigger deal in the movie-making industry back when it was built than it is now. You wouldn't be able to do projections on either (so it seems like the tower of terror is the new show icon?), but at least the hat had a stage you could have performances on naturally. Saw a few great new years shows by Mulch, Sweat and Shears there! RIP, you beloved Disney park band... (I think they're gone now)
I sincerely miss the hat, and to tell the truth have never even set foot in the Chinese theatre. of all the times I’ve been to MGM/Hollywood Studios, I can’t say I even remembered it. I went to the park this January and it was legitimately the only time I ever really noticed it.
@@baydiac If that's the case, you just missed The Great Movie Ride (I recommend looking it up on youtube, it was one of my favorites). Now it's a different ride with Mickey and Minnie (which I haven't ridden but I'd recommend looking up just for the effects they pull off).

Turns up a year later on another disney auction and my parents threatened to sue disney because they were lied to. Disney paid for their wedding at Grand Californian and honeymoon at disney world. Even better, the side my parents bought, broke in transit back to Disney.
I remember seeing the Sorcerer’s Hat when I went to Disney World in 2013. I stared at it in awe and wonder. It truly was a fantastic thing. Shame they removed it.

I still don't understand why Pizza Port wasn't Pizza Planet from the outset, with the rocket actually painted to match the movie when it was finally repainted.
I’m pretty sure it was because at the time Disney didn’t own Pixar, so they couldn’t use the name that was most likely trademarked, only when they owned them could they use the actual term “pizza planet.” Don’t know the whole story but maybe that was the reason?
No joke: I sent Disney Imagineering a letter as a kid asking for them to put a Pizza Planet in Tomorrowland. They had just done the Toy Story Funhouse summer event, so they had plenty of materials to recycle (especially the arcade cabinets). They gave me the standard "We don't accept outside ideas, but you should consider a career in imagineering" reply and a free copy of DIsney Adventures. CUT TO 1998, AND WHAT DO I SEE?! I've had the same idea for years. But I thought put it in the Tomorrowland Terrace, since it's not as well known as Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe. But they did have one at MGM/Hollywood Studios, which I didn't know about until a few years ago, until it became PizzeRizzo. However, it didn't look anything like the movie at all.

I think Disney missed out on another attraction: they could have put all these items from their past in a museum on one of their properties for people to visit. Possibly buy souvenirs and auction off select pieces of the less famous icons and maybe auction off select famous icons. Just a thought.
I love how you didn't even bother mentioning all of DCA's original park icons 😂 (The California letters, the postcard entrance, Golden Gate Bridge, the Sun Hubcap).

There should be a Disney history museum about the history of Disney with all those rides and attractions that were abandoned and of the new rides at Disney
In a Disney photo album somewhere in my mom's basement is a page from an old Disney magazine about the construction of that hat. Now 20 some years later, a video about its deconstruction. How time flies.
When I was little at Disneyland, I saw the small version of the Moonliner, and I think my parents were telling me about the history and how TWA wanted to be the first rocket to the moon. Apparently my either 5 or 7 year old mind though that that little replica itself was going to blast into space and I was so excited. I never felt let down because I eventually forgot about it.
Your story reminds me of when I was little (4 years old), and my dad took me to Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry. When we got to the U505, WWII, German submarine exhibit, my dad said, "we're going on a submarine!" I was scared of the thought of going underwater (guess I didn't want to get wet).
I was like.... NO WAY i remember the giant hat from one of my family photos I took at that same street... I look back at the photo and the hat is not there!. I remember walking by this giant hat... wow
I have never heard of these stories about Disney Theme parks. I also learned about when Walt Disney was born and when he died. I've seen the sorcerer's hat constructed on TV📺 when I was little. I've been to Disneyland with a group! It was awesome! I noticed Disney's face when I replayed that part. 2:14 The intro was nice!
The Mary Blair Small World mural destroyed by the new DL Tomorrowland mall overlay for Star Tours. I remember the 1967 Tomorrowland fountains and colored lights. They were turned off sometime in the late 70s.
The amount of hate for the hat at DHS, even after the addition of the state (ie for cover) was crazy. The old days of the GMR and the centerpiece was beautiful.
Great video :) Was kinda weird jumping to 1969 to say the sponsorship was dropped and rocket redone in 1962 out of embarrassment from the moon landing 7 years in the future.
I came down to the comments specifically to see if someone commented on this. The whole thread of that narrative had me questioning when Disneyland opened because I knew for a fact "we went to the moon in 1969" and couldn't figure out why I'd always thought Disneyland was opened in the mid-1950s when Yesterworld was telling me four years after Disneyland opened the moon landing happened. THE HISTORICAL WHIPLASH.
I'm not even going to try to deny this...because as embarrassed as I am to admit this, I think I seriously messed up in my timeline / narration for that section....

Yesterworld has definitely jumped to the head of my trusted Disney Park history sites. Again thank you and great job. I’m sorry it took me so long to find this!!!
So does Stamos own the whole sign but only displays the "D"? and did you find any info on what became of the original?
He probably didn’t have room and it makes more sense then an i or a y
He has the whole sign, just displays the D. Watch the John Stamos "Open Door" video and he shows some of the rest of his Disney collection.
Man I am so sad about that hat, it was like the definition of Disney back when I was a kid. I wanted to see it so bad :(
Yes!! So exciting ! Thank you very very much for this! I missed you so so much! I’ve been watching your videos all over again lately!
Where’s that Disney ride vault scene that was shown during the Rocketship to the Moon segment from? It looked amazing.
I'd like to know too
Same
It’s from the Main Street Electrical Parade commercial in 2017 :)

I think Disney missed out on another attraction: they could have put all these items from their past in a museum on one of their properties for people to visit. Possibly buy souvenirs and auction off select pieces of the less famous icons and maybe auction off select famous icons. Just a thought.
The waterfalls looked gorgeous!
I love how you didn't even bother mentioning all of DCA's original park icons 😂 (The California letters, the postcard entrance, Golden Gate Bridge, the Sun Hubcap).
1:25 I wonder what happened in late 2001 to make Disney consider delaying the 100 years of magic event...
Actually, the rocket having a fictional Disney corp name brandished on the sign feels way more immersive than having a Real World corp name. Of all the incarnations I actually like the Pizza Planet one the best. Das jus me doe
Epcot wand: Demolished
Fans: The evil is defeated
Lol
Isn't this your second time posting this exact comment
AAAVVVEEEERRRYYYYY WHY ARE YOU EVERYWHERE
Me or the one who posted this comment? I’m confused 😐
@@tylertimko3352 I guess you're talking to me so I was talking about Avery
I feel really lucky to have seen the big mickey hat on my first visit to disney as a kid.
Excellent research as always! I love the fact that John Stamos won the auction for the original sign, that just strikes me as very cool for some reason. I love this channel and am proud to have been a subscriber from the first video. Each installment is documentary quality. Thank you for all of your efforts my friend!
There should be a Disney history museum about the history of Disney with all those rides and attractions that were abandoned and of the new rides at Disney
The Mickey hat is probably the worst eye sore ever made blocking the beautiful Chinese Theater.
fyrTV I loved it
fyrTV I don’t even know what a Mickey sorcerer hat means. Glad it’s gone.
In a Disney photo album somewhere in my mom's basement is a page from an old Disney magazine about the construction of that hat. Now 20 some years later, a video about its deconstruction. How time flies.
Wow I see Jojo’s circus near Mickey’s mouse hat and it’s sad the series from Playhouse Disney isn’t on Disney plus
That's funny, I've always equated Stamos to a giant D
You have no idea how many jokes I could've made about that but chose not to
I know of John Stamos when Bojack Horseman alleged he met, celebrated, and saw John Stamos die in one drunken night...
LOL
I was like.... NO WAY i remember the giant hat from one of my family photos I took at that same street... I look back at the photo and the hat is not there!. I remember walking by this giant hat... wow
Was that a clip of what looked like a monorail car driving down the highway at around 7:15? Or have I lost my mind?
I think it's a modified bus...
14:56, this commercial needs to be fleshed out into a Feature Film...
And I'm just the Director to do it.
Wait, that's a commercial? I thought it was already a movie.
The Mary Blair Small World mural destroyed by the new DL Tomorrowland mall overlay for Star Tours.
I remember the 1967 Tomorrowland fountains and colored lights. They were turned off sometime in the late 70s.
If that's where the distracting "Epcot" letters went, did the number "2000" on both sides also go to the same place?
Such a good video! The Sorcerer Mickey hat was such a big part of my childhood that HS still feels weird without it to me.
The amount of hate for the hat at DHS, even after the addition of the state (ie for cover) was crazy. The old days of the GMR and the centerpiece was beautiful.
That sorcerers hat was an essential part of the park for me.
WE ALL MISS IT!!
Great video :) Was kinda weird jumping to 1969 to say the sponsorship was dropped and rocket redone in 1962 out of embarrassment from the moon landing 7 years in the future.
Yeah, the moon landing was in '69, not '59, and therefore had no bearing on TWA removing their sponsorship
@@YesterworldEntertainment it's all good. Still enjoyed the video, and even gave it a thumbs up!
Yesterworld Entertainment to be completely fair to you, I trust your research and information so much that you seriously had me reconsidering information I thought I already knew - and I’m a history teacher! 😂 When I came down here to comment it wasn’t to gloat at you being wrong or anything, I really just wanted to see if anyone else was as confused as I was so I could confirm that I wasn’t going crazy. 😂 Anyway, as someone who struggles with numbers (dyscalculia) I understand the mix up and don’t blame you at all! It’s tough always keeping things straight in your head and you put out so much quality content that you’re allowed to have a mistake or two. ❤️
last time I went to Hollywood Studios, I kept looking everywhere for the sorcerer hat, but couldn't find it anywhere. The next day, I searched it up and found out it was demolished. Safe to say, I was very dissapointed.
I had an aunt that lived around the same area as John Stamos and you could see the Disneyland "D" coming up the hill!
The Epcot structure looks like a giant golf ball. What an eyesore.
I’m a kansas citian and learning this is so fascinating. I recognized that building immediately, and in the wider present time shot, you can see my wedding venue! its right next door
I remember when they were taking down the sorcerer's hat, all the cast members were begging people to take park maps with them. The maps printed two days later didn't have the hat on them, so I stashed some of the old ones away in my collection
Wow, i remember half of these forgotten things, i remember when the tram from the parking to the park commentary would mention that the 1990 Disneyland Sign was getting removed in preparation for DCA construction
Also what movie/show is that from at 14:55?
indiana jones what one dont know
@@donkeykong6426 i dont remember that warehouse being in Raiders of The Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, or The Last Crusade 🤔
I know I've seen that scene before I just don't know from where
@@Spintechfilms the warehouse is from the commercial for the Mainstreet electrical parade returning to Disneyland in 2017
Edit: I should clarify that I meant the warehouse that is full of past Disneyland attractions just before the Indy clip if you look up Mainstreet electrical parade commerical you can find the full thing. It's really awesome
@@theoneandonlylordspud1273 yeah same here but I feel like I've seen it in one of the movies not in a commercial like Kevin Stephens said but I could be wrong
There's nothing more spooky than abandoned theme parks! 👻👻👻
Aaaaa I remember micky hat!! I always enjoyed seeing it! I hope they do it again at some point in time!!
So I actually remember the mgm ears. I went to the park when I was 6 and the only thing I remember is standing under the hat looking at all of the goodies while hiding from the sun for a bit
the transition into the sponsor at the end was SMOOTH AS BUTTER O MY GOD
My question is WHO decided to make the D in Disney look like that. I still can’t read it. It looks like a G.
The man himself lmfao that’s how Walt Disney signed the D in his signature.
AMS Actually, theres never been proof to show that Walt signed his name in this way. Hank Green did a video about this on the Vlogbrothers channel (Why is the Disney "D" So Weird?), check it out!
It look like a backward G to me when I was little growing up.
It looks like Walp Gisnep
Its pronounced guisné
My first project working at Disney was removing the Hat Icon at Studios back in 2015. It was a blast. And my boss has one of the red stars from the Epcot all in his office lol
I always loved the sorcerer’s hat when I went back in 2019 I was sad because I hadn’t seen it in forever and then it suddenly wasn’t there
That Bette Midler gag was perfect!
Why do so many people hate the Mickey hat, I always liked it
The magical moments pins still work in some places! I brought my set of 5 back to the parks on the last trip two years ago!
Trans world airlines would go out of business in 2001. Just 7 years after the flight 800 disaster. But the terminal flight center is now the TWA hotel at John F Kennedy international.
We have the sorcerer hat in France, with a museum, a gift shop and a small theater where a cast member speak with Mushu, when you left the theater you can learn to draw a Disney character, Winnie the Pooh, Olaf at Christmas, Mushu …. This attraction is not a hit, peoples don’t go there, it is my favorite, I am a 2D and 3D animator and I love it so much.
Who knew *John Stamos* of all people was one of us??
I miss The Sorcerer’s Hat. Was my favorite icon when I visited for the first time in 2007
This series is fantastic and i’m always bummed when it gets to the end. But of course the cherry on top is another mention of The Lottery Starring Bette Midler!
