I'm from the NY area and I gotta say deep dish is great. I like living in a world where Chicago and NY-style pizza can coexist! Sending my hellos to Chicago from the East Coast!
I use a fork/knife for the first half. The ones I ate were a bit too heavy to comfortably hold the whole thing without losing toppings. Also, by the time I ate half a slice, the cheese is at that just right gooeyness to stretch a bit still, but not enough to have trouble biting through. Fresh, I need the knife to separate a piece off to eat it.

What I didn't know until this video was Malnati's and Gino's recipes are derived from Uno's recipe, I think that's a cool fun fact. Lou malnati has the best sausage, both in quantity and flavor; uno is very good and their sheep milk based cheese makes it unique in the best way. Ginos East has quite remarkable tomato sauce though, to the point that I buy it in cans to use as sauce for spaghetti and other dishes that call for it. They are all good and it’s hard to pick the top 1 but unlike other comparisons on here, these all bring something unique to the table and are all impressively different. Chicago deep dish is absolutely undefeated among pizza styles. I can’t recommend it enough. Everything about it. Crust. Cheese. Sauce. And how they traditionally just have sausage as a topping or sometime pepperoni but the best examples are the ones with just the highest quality sausage.

My dad grew up in Chicago and he says the best deep dish is a small restaurant in Appleton WI. called Stuc's, my family would go there on occasion and now its so nostalgic that nothing will top it, but I don't think its just the nostalgia that makes it great because my boyfriend loves it and just compared it to Lou Malnati's and he said Stuc's is better, he said Lou's just tasted bland compared to the flavor that Stuc's has, so I highly recommend Stuc's to anybody traveling through WI!
They went to Lou's so they don't have to. I know they aren't the same, but if you know the history of deep dish in Chicago, Lou's is really the most credible source of being the founder of Deep Dish, since Malnati was a pizza cook (well-documented) at Uno's before he branched out.

I’m from Chicago and my favorite deep dish is Edwardo’s spinach deep dish! No one ever mentions that place but it’s the best in my opinion. My whole family agrees!
I worked at Edwardo's for 20 years. I never tired of the food! My favorite was their pesto, on pasta, in a pizza, always a winner! I was very proud of the pizza, the whole menu in fact!
I googled ed's awhile back, mine closed 15 years ago BTW, you're lucky to have yours as long as you did. If I read it right one on North Dearborn in Chicago. But it seems to have gone upscale it's called Eduardo's with an fancier menu. Still an old school Edwardo's in Muncie Indiana. Plus if you Google Ed's you can have a frozen pizza shipped to you. I hate to see the price for that!
Arrenello's Pizza in Glenwood, IL. A south suburb of Chicago is hands down the most underrated deep dish pizza in the entire city for more than 25 years.
Pequod's is on another level. Definitely my favorite pizza in Chicago. I can't visit Chicago without stopping there. While my favorite pizza is from NYC; I think Pequod's is better than most pizzerias in NYC.
Hey. I respect your opinion man. I’ve only been to Lou Malnati’s, Giordano’s, Gino’s East and Pizzeria Uno. I didn’t like any of them at all. But i love Pequod’s.
Lous has a great deep dish and Giordano thin crust cannot be beat. So I go to both. I wish Pequods was closer I'd like to give them a go, the pie looks amazing
Most of us don't eat deep dish pizza very often. Mostly it's just when entertaining people from out of town and maybe once or twice a year on top of that. If you say "Chicago pizza" to someone from Chicago, what most of us think of is Chicago-style thin crust pizza, which is almost never mentioned in these shows.
That's because these shows are about deep dish pizzas. Not Chicago favourite pizza just Chicago deep dish pizzas. But yh I get you. It's a stereotype that Chicago is just all deep dish lol
As someone who grew up in Chicago for 13 years, I've had only Lou Malnati's pizza and Giordano's pizza on this list. And Lou Malnati's blows Giordano's out of the water- it's not even close! The way they described Lou Malnati's pizza was perfect, but Giordano's pizza is 90% cheese and the crust is average. Next time I'm in Chicago, I might try Pequod's, but there are so many amazing places to eat in the Chicago area.
I went to Giordano's for a pepperoni, and sausage deep dish in January. The cheese pull was amazing, the crust was crispy, and not too dense, and the slice held up when I picked it up. I didn't need a fork and knife.
Great job ladies! As a native Chicago and I have tried all the pizzas you have and agree that overall Lou Malnati‘s is always excellent, but I do tend to like Pequads just a little bit better
I grew up in the north Chicago burbs in the 80s. All the great Chicago places were at their prime. Sad not even mentioned here, but my all time fave, without question, was always NANCY'S. Similar to Giordano's, but Nancy's crust was far superior IMO. Pan (deep dish) pizza: I love Lou Malnati's and Gino's, but the original Pequod in Morton Grove was sublime! RIP Burt Katz...perhaps the greatest pizza maker of all time!
Got this video because I was Googling "Deep Dish Pizza near me" last night I guess? And was reminded in a number of articles that Yes, Chicago got Deep Dish from Milwaukee. We had it first! But Lou Malnati’s delivers to my area. I prefer Gino's when down there. Killer sausage layer!
I’m from the north of Scotland and I wish I had the money to fly to both Chicago and New York to try the proper pizzas from both cities. Where I live the only pizza available is frozen stuff…..it’s grim.

@@hulee1968 I might get deported for saying this, but I don't like Chicago style. I'd recommend Nella Pizza e Pasta, Spacca Napoli and La Scarola for Italian. Arun's and Herb for Thai.
I live in Chicago
those who work for food insider are so lucky they can try and eat a lot of different food from all over the world i want to work for them even for one day
3:50 "Assistent" General Manager lol 😂
Hola me encanta todo lo que hacen par de Hermosas 🤗🤗🤗saludos desde Medellín 🇨🇴 Colombia
I’m from Chicago and my favorite deep dish is Edwardo’s spinach deep dish! No one ever mentions that place but it’s the best in my opinion. My whole family agrees!
Spinach pizza??!! ughh
I worked at Edwardo's for 20 years. I never tired of the food! My favorite was their pesto, on pasta, in a pizza, always a winner! I was very proud of the pizza, the whole menu in fact!
@@bigray2859 Are there any that are still open? The one closest to me just closed. 😢
I googled ed's awhile back, mine closed 15 years ago BTW, you're lucky to have yours as long as you did. If I read it right one on North Dearborn in Chicago. But it seems to have gone upscale it's called Eduardo's with an fancier menu. Still an old school Edwardo's in Muncie
Indiana. Plus if you Google Ed's you can have a frozen pizza shipped to you. I hate to see the price for that!
@@bigray2859 i’ve gotten frozen Eduardo‘s at my local grocery store but it wasn’t as good. I like the deep dish spinach pizza the best.
I straight up thought that dude was gonna walk up to them at 4:34 😂😂
Me too
I would definitely try Pequod's sausage pepperoni combination pizza. Looks so delicious :)
Qrious Gourmet it is delicious
@@personinspace4286 Lucky you. I'm so jealous =)
It looked the best to me.
Same here =)
It's life. Holy wow.
Gino's east is still the KING of deep dish pizza in Chicago!
While my favorite pizza is from NYC; I think Pequod's is better than most pizzerias in NYC.
ayadal Chicago pizza is all garbage
Agree 100%.
1. Malnatis
2. Peaquods
I like Peaquods more
Most of us don't eat deep dish pizza very often.
Chicago styled thin is trash I’m from Illinois and hated that stuff
Every piece of work ALANA IS INVOLVED WTH IS AMASEING 😀😀😀 I LOVE U ALANA YZOLA ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
How does food insider pick the food reviewers for their videos? I see different people each time.
These two have been there in a number of videos based in the US..For the UK ones, you have someone else
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone so uneducated about pizza review pizza before😂
Yeah they really don’t know any food
Totally agree.
Jared DeRoche clueless
Agreed.
I'd be willing to bet a lot of guys came here, not just for the pizza.
Malnati's FTW
As someone who grew up in Chicago for 13 years, I've had only Lou Malnati's pizza and Giordano's pizza on this list. And Lou Malnati's blows Giordano's out of the water- it's not even close! The way they described Lou Malnati's pizza was perfect, but Giordano's pizza is 90% cheese and the crust is average. Next time I'm in Chicago, I might try Pequod's, but there are so many amazing places to eat in the Chicago area.
My favorite deep dish? Numero Uno!
I went to Giordano's for a pepperoni, and sausage deep dish in January. The cheese pull was amazing, the crust was crispy, and not too dense, and the slice held up when I picked it up. I didn't need a fork and knife.
One of my favourite food series!!!
Amy Elliott me,too
i am from chicago and you got it right, Lou's is the best in the city.
Me too and I dont eat deep dish alot. I usually go thin crust but if I am getting deep dish I prefer peaquods
charles charles Pequods is too much bread/dough for me.
I’d agree but I still like Pequods better if you call that deep dish. It’s more of a pan-deep dish hybrid
Most Awaited Video of 2019!
I make my own in Canada, would love to try it in Chicago someday! I can only imagine it tastes so much better than mine.
@ChangeInMind
As somebody from Chicago I can confirm.
Definitely would try some of these deep dish pizzas when I visit Chicago!!
I'm going back to watching the Pizza Show on Munchies. That guy actually knows what he's talking about and is a likable character
Fax these two are unbearable
1 minute in and I'm already ready to jump in my truck from Va right now.
It's so deep these pizzas are basically cheesy philosophers! 😉
I see what you did there😀🤣🤣
Great job ladies! As a native Chicago and I have tried all the pizzas you have and agree that overall Lou Malnati‘s is always excellent, but I do tend to like Pequads just a little bit better
Two gorgeous young ladies.
That compliment each other.
And are articulate, and seem to enjoy what they are doing!
*Sweet Jesus, my mouth is watering*
Thin crust is good. Idk why everyone think Chicago is just deep dish. Palermos is one of the best I've tried. The sweet sauce
I HATE WHEN THE BLONDE GIRL LOOKS UP LIKE THAT 2:09
@Lu Cheng it looks so dumb
She thanking god
She looks so dumb and dull like that
itteeki rupes vituttaan,,,
Lmao same, it’s so cringey.
I haven't tried Pequod, but I love all the others.
I confess my preference for Geno's is mostly because of the graffiti.
5:14 to 5:16 same reaction when I am cheating in exam and my invigilator comes in front of me 😅😂😂😂😂😂
Giordano's is the best!! Ginos East is also awesome
NAPLES IS THE BIRTHPLACE....JUST SAYING...
I think this was exactly what my preferences are too! Malnati's rocks
That's the type of food recommendation I didn't really trust, but I keep watching it.
This is a real Chicago pizza
It's an incredibly hungry video
Herrine Ro got the best job in the world.
8:33 “State of Chicago” ??
"CITY of Chicago"
Welcome to the Midwest brother
you girls get paid to eat amazing foods around the world...yall r living the dream!
I’m from the north of Scotland and I wish I had the money to fly to both Chicago and New York to try the proper pizzas from both cities. Where I live the only pizza available is frozen stuff…..it’s grim.
I went to Lou Malnati's and it was good but Peqoud's looks amazing.
To me Peqoud's looked amazing .....
Hearty sauce and the pepperoni looked like a winner ......
Gino's is my favorite! Wish I had a pie right now! 🍕🥧
I've watched this series through at least twice, and I've never noticed until now that at 3:50 they misspelled Assistant General Manager as "Assistent."
Looks like Pequod's is combining a Chicago Deep Dish with a Detroit Style crust. Looks good, but give credit to the Detroit Style Pizza for the signature caramelized cheese that edges the pizza!
I dont know why but when the two people in the background got up I chuckled 4:30
The fourth one looks the best but I wouldn't order the pepperoni. I'd LIVE to try all 4!!!
4:27 that man in the back just couldn’t take it anymore
This is would make an awesome trip to try these pizzas with my family 😃
Barbz
Wow this pizza changed their lives forever!
I’ve only had Gino’s east pizza when I’ve gone to Chicago but it’s so good 🙂
