Think about the purpose of suspension in a rock crawler - it's primary purpose is to control the position of the body/frame - and your CG - in relation to the tires/axles/contact patch. With locked diffs, less articulation becomes less important. More, or too much articulation (yes there is such a thing as too much articulation) starts allowing the body/frame/CG to start transferring weight in a more uncontrolled fashion. Look at full scale rock crawlers and bouncers - most of them still have at least 1 sway bar. I found this out on my Ryft (portals, AXE 3300 13t pinion, fully locked) which is a really good crawler now. It does MUCH better with the swaybar. Without, it just flops all over the place as the rear suspension dramatically unloads when it needs to be planted. With the swaybay connected, the body/axle relationship is kept within bounds that keeps a stable CG and it just motors on through.
To much articulation can hurt more than it helps. I like to keep a softer front suspension to let it keep the front of the truck planted. That's where the majority of the weight is. Then I run the rear a little stiffer to fight off the torque twist. Plus a stiffer rear suspension seems to help keep the truck planted.
I got the swaybar pack and installed the medium bar out of 3 choices which is weaker that the stock bar and this short trailing arm setup got better. I want to run it some more and try the softest bar next. 👍
@@hellorc7678:I'd like to hear the results and how you feel about it. Your help with the steering servo strength and shock spring "length and weights". As always thank you for your consideration.
I went with a extreme 4x4 mount and ucfab sway bar and works good, way too much twist without. Also had to mount rear trailing arms on the outside of the mount instead of between.
Vaterra Ascender had a lot of torque twist. On some obstacles, it could actually be helpful, as the torque twist would help keep the body flat. But of course, when the terrain slopes the opposite way, it hurt.
When I tell people I have a sway bar on the back, their reactions are interesting. Trx4 I didn't notice as much improvement, but scx10ii, and wraith both benefit from it alot
Well hott damn that ecto is gorgeous and love the video you deff nailed that sideways climb. Jeepers n one to one's disconnect the sway bars cause the flex and weight of the vehicle can break them I've experienced first hand lol. Was like what then was like ohhhhh!!!!!!!
@@ExocagedRC never hurts to try if u can find away to make it work.. it would have more flex than the sway bar.. yet more controls?..🤷♂️ I think it would be worth a shot..
@@ExocagedRC the Ecto sway bar kit comes with mounts for the rear of the chassis (bumper mount screws) and in the middle of the chassis where the shock towers now are. I reckon there's a way!
I will disagree, for me my Gatekeeper kit with a Ecto body rolls over to the side a LOT less in the area that I crawl, everyone will get different results

This channel sold me an ecto. As a stock truck it is AMAZING. After adding a few mods 🤯
They are Awesome. Look at the rock pirate stuff for them. Very sweet stuff
Element have 3 options, soft, medium and hard in the sway bar kit they sell , not sure which the ecto comes with. Gatekeeper comes with hard

The reefs sway bar fits beautifully on there.
I've seen a few people lose the sway bar and put the rear shocks on the axle. Seems to do ok but gonna stick with the sway bar on ours!
Yeah that would work way better than just removing the Swaybar like I did. But in all honesty I like the rear suspension stock with the bar.
@@ExocagedRC yep. It's a pretty good setup right out of the box. Getting ready to go out to the course with the ecto and do a little filming now!

@@ExocagedRCdoesn’t the droop set up gives the same effect as swaybars?
man, that ACTO is crazy ride, overdrive or not, swaybar yea or disconected, nice light body- i like it

Another goes into suspension setup. I really need to fine tune my little trx4 sport.
I'm digging it!
Great video as usual!
I would have guessed to remove the swaybar, I was wrong !
O yeah nice demonstration. 💯👍
This things articulation is straight crazy
Yeah too much without the bar
I love my Ecto, but can’t get it to side hill like my other trucks. I played around with preload but just can’t get it to side hill properly
Just got a black edition today.
Hey Joe are you planning to pick up the Redcat Marksman? would love to see a review vid from you on that rig!
I hope someday i got one of this kind of toy..
excellent demo of the physics. 👍🍺🇬🇧
Thank you 👍

But I'm sure a proper sway bar that's meant to flex wouldn't break I just ment like on daily driven crawlers/jeeper
This ecto man sum different 💯
Good bro..
How would the bungee cords do vs. the sway bar?
Not sure on that one. With the rear ended the way it is I’m sure it would act similar.
@@ExocagedRC never hurts to try if u can find away to make it work.. it would have more flex than the sway bar.. yet more controls?..🤷♂️ I think it would be worth a shot..
Swaybar on and brass on the rear to keep it planted 👍
But it looks good as is to me
@@ExocagedRC But could it be the magic ingredient......who knows haha
Can you see if the Ecto's sway bar will fit on the rear of the Trailgladiator? And if it will, can you do the same test with that please?
hmmm I think it will, that with basically the same rear suspension... hmmm

What bumper are you running!
Hey Joe, is the only difference in the gatekeeper and ecto the body?
As far as I know yes.
@@ExocagedRC thanks a lot brotha. You’ve sold me on the ecto lol
Any advice on a sway bar for the capra running the sth chassis?
well I use the Reefs in the back of Myolnir but none in Optimus 3
Go with a hair wider wheel hex and maybe rear tires wont rub the bed
Nah I’m keeping the Swaybar on
Help I’m debating between an ecto or a gatekeeper?

cool vid! appreciate the views number! big like!

Yea i know. 2 slow! 😁
Same as stock wheelbase

Learn how to drive using all that articulation mr Exo tha hell with a swaybar learn tha ectoe 👊🏽
Not all articulation is good
I’ve drove like that and when it torques over like you see here, that’s not a good thing.
Whomp whomp let tha ec-toe flex 😂🤣🤪 good vid as always Rc fam ✊🏽
