I hitched a ride in a Flying Fortress several years ago, for $450. Worth every cent for a thirty-minute flight. I sat in the nosegunner's seat and "stafed" herds of cattle that we flew over. The plane creaked, groaned, roared, squeaked, rattled, shuddered, and shook! A visceral experience in an iconic aircraft!
I worked on the B-17 miss Angela when it was Bill Dempsey s plane and it was being sold. We did a test flight and I'll never forget the experience. She's truly special. I can still see her glistening in the early morning. Some airplanes just get taken your breath away. I saved her bacon during a freak thunderstorm and tornado. She broke free of her tie downs and began rolling quickly toward a 30 foot deep ditch in Maricopa. The wind was screaming. I ran like hell flipped up into the nose hatch. Made it to the left seat and stood on the breaks. Tail went up in the air. For what seemed like eternity I looked into the ditch and stood on those toe brakes with everything I had. Storm passed and her tail pooped gracefully down. I got a pecan farmers tractor and towed her back. I did a sheetmetal repair on the rudder gust lock to prove it. Keep her flyin
This is the B-17 from the Commerative Air wing in Arizona. It is departing runway 2 out of La Porte, Indiana (KPPO). Date is September 8th, 2024. I work as a lineman at the FBO. This plane is AWESOME! there was also a B-25 there as well giving rides! It was a beautiful day!
Beautiful music. I’d like to hear one when the engines are out of sync. My favorite sound since I flew for my first time in 1948 and later in all the DCs and the Connie.
The countryside around the airport in this video and the landing video is very reminiscent of the countryside around the bases that the B17 operated from in the UK during WWII
It's hard to believe these beauties were shotdown all over Germany, and how it must have felt to the crew when one of those engines blew, or the props separated. Amazing. God bless those brave men.
For someone now having a ride in that great iconic piece of American aviation history the emotions would be ones of joy and excitement but contrast that for a second to how the crews back in the day must have felt doing the same thing but headed to Germany. Insane levels of bravery there from those men. Wonderful to see today though.
I was thinking the dark screen uploads alleged to be continuous loops of actual B-17 onboard sound were all fakes done with trombones or some sort of synth. I am rather shocked to find out they actually sound like this. I quite expected to hear some sort of rumble/ warble from the exhaust even though all muffled by a turbo waste gate.
My father was an engine mechanic and prop specialist for the B17 in Europe during WWII. Met my mother in London at VE celebration and here I am.

Amazing how just a collection of engineering parts spannered together can sound so sweet and perform so well 🫡🇬🇧
👍👍 Excellent view and ahhhh.... the glorious sound of those lovely big round engines! 😁
Most beautiful sound in the world when she revs up for take off...
Unfortunately, I would imagine for the many poor souls in WWII who knew they would never set foot on the ground again, this sound was anything but.

In a time period of 1:34 seconds 15gallons of fuel was burned and 10 quarts of oil used, 🤣
And worth every penny!
@@claiborneeastjr4129 that's a fact . I would love to fly that just one time in my life
Greta in panic 😂
I’m in the oil business and am willing to produce all you need! Beautiful iconic American aviation history.
Belle
Another Boeing POC
