This solo is considered the greatest rock solo of all time...I think the live performance at MSG in 1973 is incredible as well; you get to see Jimmy Page play the "Double Neck Guitar" - by the way, it isn't an acoustic guitar, but a 12-string and 6-string electric guitar pieced together into the iconic "Double Neck" - you really get to see the way in which the song is put together and Plant is incredible live along with Bonzo with his drum fills and JPJ playing the recorder and using his foot pedals for the bass...when I was a kid and this song came out, i thought it was a flute...just how incredible these four musicians are and were...simply the best

I am so, so glad you two reacted to the studio version of this song! Too many reactors watch the live version of this song, then go on to the Heart tribute cover version, and then never, ever listen to the original studio recording. This song would never have touched your soul in the way it did if you had simply watched the live version. The true power and glory of Led Zeppelin is found in the studio recordings produced by one of the greatest music producers to ever live, Jimmy Page, who was also the bands founder and guitarist. I highly, highly recommend you do a reaction to the studio version of the song "Since I've Been Loving You" off of the album Led Zeppelin III. Ladies and Gentleman, right here is what the world needs a lot more of. Two people from a completely different country, culture, religion, appearance, and politics who put all that aside- as do those of us watching it- and we all are just sharing a love a great music and the fun of watching someone else enjoy it. Music brings us together like nothing else can.. Its so refreshing to see this people from the middle east hear and enjoy American music and none of us care about all those other things the news keeps telling us are differences and problematic. You guys are great, thanks for doing this and sharing it with the world and me!

Great reaction, Carol and Elie! I have listened to this song thousands of times for past 50 years and it is just as sublime on every listen as the first time. I typically would not recommend a live version of this song, although LZ did it really well in live performances, and I would definitely never recommend a cover of any LZ song. However, there is one live cover version of this song that the band Heart did for the Kennedy Center honors where the remaining members of Led Zeppelin were being honored and the drums for Heart were being played by Jason Bonham, John Bonham's (Bonzo's) son, that is a treat that you should give yourselves. Continue enjoying your LZ journey, no bad songs ahead

While the famous live ("can anyone remember laughter..?") is a great way to show LZ's stage presence, both the sound quality and the solo are inferior. It's an interesting addition for when you already know the song as it should be known (that's why they recorded it in the studio this way, no?). Good call!

  • @CuttinEJ
    @CuttinEJ 11 месяцев назад +3

I’m almost 65 years old. This was the first album I bought that wasn’t the Beatles. Stairway To Heaven is musical masterpiece in every sense. It changes (increases) tempo 3 times which gives it a completely different feeling 3 times. Unheard of. Genius. That’s just not done. I don’t think it’s ever been done since. The lyrics are an introspective examination of the meaning of life. I never knew anyone who didn’t spend a little time thinking about the meaning of life after listening to this song. After all these years it still moves me the way it did the first time I heard it. And now it’s moving a 3rd generation. For that, I want to say thank you. You are why rock and roll will never die. That guitar solo is at least top 5 all time. And the song as a whole. It’s hard to say that any 1 song is the greatest of all time because there are probably 8 or maybe 10 that you could make a case for. But this one is most certainly the cream of the crop. It’s important to understand that there were no beats or samples or auto tune back then. Every single note was played and recorded by hand in analog. The first personal computers wouldn’t exist for another 20 or 25 years and they wouldn’t be powerful enough to run the software that also wouldn’t exist for yet another 15 years. This is a truly magnificent achievement. I hope you continue to discover and enjoy all of the great rock music. There’s a lot out there. If I may make 2 suggestions. Always listen to the studio album version 1st. That’s as close to what the artist intended as it’s possible to get. Live performances are really only great if you happened to be there in that moment. With a few very rare exceptions. Now, if you want to hear something really cool, listen to Carnival, by Natalie Merchant, from the album Tiger Lilly. Natalie Merchant is another genius besides being stunningly beautiful. But the thing that sets this song apart is the guitar, played by Jennifer Turner. The lyrics and the vocals are spectacular too, but the guitar work is just…well…I just don’t have the words to adequately describe it. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever heard. Enjoy. Much love 😊❤

Such an amazing song. The music, oh what a sweet build up, frantic swirl, and magical conclusion. The lyrics MUST be listened to many times for it to slowly sink in. It is imagery and poetry, not thinking. A seduction of the ears, a teasing of the heart, and a mystery for the mind.

I wish I could take you both back to 1975 at Long Beach Arena, Calif. Give you two $10.50 tickets and enjoy 3 1/2 hours of Zep Rock ,like I did. No dancing girls , no audio tricks , no damn cell phones in the air, and no stage jumpers. The audiences respected them and they respected their audiences. I am 73 and no band out of many since has equaled their stage presence, music, and electric blues. I have many of their LPs ,CDs, and Cassettes. Peace.

It's not possible to hear a song again for the first time so seeing the reaction from other people to a 52 year oild song that still holds a power to amaze is incredible. Led Zep set a template for other bands to followof a slow burn song to a rock out and I don't think Bohemian Rhapsody would exist without this song. The group were worried that their fans were buying their albums just on their name so they released this without the band details on the album so the songs were appraised purely on merit. I think you should try War Pigs by Black Sabbath, a heavy rock and heavy lyrics song.

I'm an American and I must admit that the best rock was dominated by the UK from the late 60s all the way to the late 80s. The US hadYes, there were some great American band like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Credence, and some great softer, more folk-like bands like America; Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (the later being a Canadian); Simon and Garfunkel and even the Eagles. And later on, in the early 80s New Wave had a few top notch bands from the US, but it was still mostly British bands that were coming out with the great stuff. And even though Punk Rock started with the American band The Ramones, the Brits took it over after that.
Only in the late 80s and onward did US bands take off, starting with Nirvana's and Pearl Jam's Grunge Rock style, later turning into Alternative and then Nu Metal then Death Metal and variants that came around at or after the time rock music was completely fragmented by the internet.
So I commend you both for picking out some of the best the US had to offer at the time, but you're going to find that in the 70s, everyone--including Americans--were mostly listening to British rock bands like Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Yes, and many more.

Carol and Elie. After this, you should listen to the live version by the group Heart. They pay tribute to Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center Honors and knock it out of the park. Robert Plant is known for being very particular about his music and hasn't very good things to say about many who have tried to play this most signature piece of their musical catalog. John Bonham's son, Jason, pitches in on the drums in place of his late father, John, to salute his part in creating this glorious postcard. It is all it could be and more.
And just because I know you two live to rock out, take time to listen to MISTY MOUNTAIN HOP. You will have a great time there. Enjoy

No, Led Zeppelin doing this live first should come before somebody who isn't Led Zeppelin doing this song. What next, Dolly Parton?
I love Ann and Nancy, but leave it to Zeppelin.

ABSOLUTELY agree on using the studio vrsion for first listen of this song. I saw 3 of the 5 Led Zepplin shows at Earl's Court in London in 1975, and the film production of this song just never came out that well. Use the live versions for some of the faster paced songs, like "Black Dog"; "Immigrant Song"; "Dazed and Confused", etc.

I wish I could go back all those years to the first time I heard this song. The magic of this song has faded mostly because its 50ish years old and because as a guitar and bass player I learned all the parts. If you want to keep the magic alive do not learn your favorite songs. After magic its all just math.

Watch the cover version from the Kennedy Center awards ceremony where the Wilson sisters from Heart along with Led Zeppelin’s late drummer’s son, Jason Bonham was on drums to the surprise of the living band members, who watched the magical performance. Probably the best live rock cover ever performed in history.

An amazing song, and an amazing band. It was an instant classic. And it probably is the greatest rock song of all time. I remember the first time I heard it back in the 70s and it left me stunned and speechless. The whole album is great. One of my favorites.Their first album has become my favorite over the years. This was their fourth album.

One of the purest reactions to Stairway To Heaven that I have seen.
This one is a saver. New subscriber. Stay real, and ... keep on r'actin .
Oh -- don't put "Rock and Roll" in a box.
There is so much of a range in rock. Soft Rock.
Heavy Metal [ not the devil crap ]. Southern Rock. Even "Pop" can be Rock. Especially Pop from the 60's through the 90's. There is also Country Rock. All genres of music are great, for the most part. Good music is good music.
There are extremes that don't even qualify as music. But in general, real music is beautiful.
Disco was frowned upon back in the 70's when I was a teen. It wasn't "cool." I even gave away my "Saturday Night Fever" album because it was full of disco. And I NEVER gave away one of my albums. Not from my coveted album collection. But I felt "uncool" owning a disco album. Of course, now the songs from the disco era are considered good music.
Because they are. The Bee Gees are an incredible band, and they were prominent during the disco era. But The Bee Gees wrote and performed music that fit in multiple genres.
Y'all have a bottomless pit to dig into as far as the amount of great music there is out there to react to. And while the 70's are the best decade of modern music -- hands down -- check out the songs anywhere from the 50's up to and including the 90's.
Of course, the music from 2000 until now has some great stuff. And there are bands and solo artists who recently have been putting out some good 'ol R&R and Pop music. Real talent is still out there.

It simply means that depending on beauty and charms to find happiness through material things is like riding the whispering wind. But, if you resist the Piper” who is trying to lead you down this false path, and for those who stand long, true love will prevail and you will find a lady who shows that everything still turns to gold and we will find true love and true happiness which is greater than anything that can be bought.
