      Dude he said a bench OR a box. He even demonstrates it with a box. From my anecdotal experience boxes are in less demand than benches, so just use that.

      Exactly... there are a finite number of benches available. I'd feel like an equipment hog using 2 benches for a single exercise.

      It can be done only if You do this as the first exercise in the Gym and arrive the earliest 😂.
      In My Gym most Equipments are almost free from use for about first 20-25 minutes, then we'll know better 🙂🥲

      Nah I think he was just throwing that out there as an option, even if a not great one. The box is the real W idea. My gym I absolutely couldn’t use 2 benches, we only have 3, but no one uses the boxes we got

    Just set them on the floor and lean over to each side to pick them up. It's a little awkward, but less awkward than being mean-mugged by the guy waiting for a bench to open up.
    Love this exercise though.

    I personally can't get into my workout unless I am able to have access to every bench in the gym. When I go to the gym, I find an open bench (a struggle in and of itself) then I sit on it and wait until another bench is open then I go and drag that one over to my bench, I repeat this until I have acquired every bench in the gym only then do I feel like I am able to do my twenty minute stretches and, finally, my three sets of box steps with five pound dumbbells.

    I saw this on one of your vids from months ago, and it's a game changer. Once you get over 50 or 60 pounds on this lift, flopping into the bench is a near death experience.

    I put the weights on the floor in front on either side of the bench. Get myself into position. Lean to the right pick one Dumbbell lean to the left pick up the other.

    I actually use the 90lb dumbbells as a platform because they are almost never being used. The dumbbells at my gym are flat on the sides so you can stack dumbbells on top of each other. This is probably the easiest way I’ve found.

    One way my instructor taught me on how to lay down on the incline bench, chest side down, was to put one leg at the front like youre about to lunge, and then get down from there. Pretty easy honestly and you dont need the support of another bench

    This is one reason why I don't go to commercial gyms and go to more bodybuilding-oriented gyms. They are less crowded and no one is pissed about you picking two benches to work, if you are ACTUALLY working out

    Because when I do it the girl yells from the other side of the gym "Where's the 50 box!" So I do it both regular dumbbell row and chest supported machine row and it helps well.

    I have long arms so it’s not a much of an issue, but it gets tricky when you’re trying to pick them up one at a time while in position AND trying to get your lifting straps on the dumbbells. What I’ve been doing is picking one dumbbell up with the wrist strap set up while it’s on the floor, then picking it up and while I’m holding it (with the strap) bend slightly to the other side to pick the other dumbbell up while finessing the strap onto it with one hand, all while still holding on to the other dumbbell. It’s hella awkward and I wish there was an easier solution (besides taking up additional equipment like what Sean suggested here. I’d use one of those stool things but my gym doesn’t really have them. If anyone else has a better idea please help a brother out - I love this rowing variation and I’ll probably still continue to do it but it’s just that the setup can be a little awkward

    Most gyms now days are not equipped with additional benches to move around. And of course they line these benches a mere few feet from Broadway creating trip hazards and conflicts amongst gym members
    You give very solid advice
    Concentrate on order of exercises?
    I'd like to hear your opinion on certain styles of weight pumping because bodybuilding has confused people since day 1

    Another helpful tip I've never heard from anyone. Is to check the benches weight limit for petes sake. If you weigh 100kg and take 35kg DBs thats a good 170kg on a bench rated for 120kg max. Its not a matter of if, its when. When will the bench or pins fail. That time you have 70kg hovering above your head

    Luckily in my gym, there are mini seats without a backrest. Usually, no one uses it and that's where I put those two dumbbells when using this exercise variation

    I superset this same lift with a DB back fly, usually using something light like 15s. I'll set the 15s down first and use them as the "platform" to rest my heavier DBs on that I'll be using for the row. Works great for me and I'm not using 2 benches in a busy gym 👍
