I would like to tip my hat to the British lady who does the main narration. She always sounds so fascinated/fascinating and involved. She draws me into the world and makes it a joy to listen to all the things going on in peoples heads and around this crazy world.
Yeah, number 9 is rough...it really makes number 7 difficult because it's like every time you aren't actively cruel, the party NPCs act like you just handed them a one-way ticket on the express train to the bone zone.

And when you imagine a romantic image he panics and is like “what?? I wasn’t flirting! Why would you think I was flirting??” Oh I don’t know, Gale, maybe the part where you called magic erotic and then stood firmly in the kiss or kill zone staring deeply into my eyes? Then again, i forgot how to talk to people in real life after a year of COVID, and he was stuck in a tower for a year with only a winged cat-wizard for company so maybe I should cut him some slack.
Having Gale offer to show me "something magical" at camp one night and having it "go there" actually helps me understand what frustrates women about men. Not sure if that's what their intent was, but that's what it did.

9 is probably the one thing i would have liked a bit different. I think simply making it so all romance dialog had to be chosen and made clear that it was romance, and adding another dialog option that basically avoided romance without completely shutting them down would have been nice. Like some of the romance dialog is very vauge and easy to mistake for regular dialog.
i went all of act 1 and 2 without chatting at all with gale save for the beginning, barely used him, kept him in camp, and he stil wanted to sex me up, i think after certain milestones they just have the horny for you for some reason and even unprompted theyll go after u
Constantly reloading games tires me out more than anything I completely disagree with you. Failing a skill check isn't a mistake it's a narrative, there is no reason to reload.
For Number 5 I've found the best approach is when you start a conversation and it seems like things are about to go south hit the "Character Select" button. It lets you switch to your other characters while your speaking character and the about-to-be-hostile NPCs are held in the conversation. Then you can ungroup them and position them wherever is best for the upcoming fight.
About Romance, you actually just have to say no. Companions don't really disapprove you not wanting them. And it's a merry band of people not knowing each day if they will live to see another one. I completely get why they'd be more direct with their intentions and coming onto the player. My only regret is not having much of them coming onto each other, once you've rejected them for example. That would make sense and clear out a bit your options ! Then again, Larian precised you could be polyamorous, or pick someone and change later for personal reasons so, closing options wouldn't really match with that intent.

Wyll hit on Lae’zel while we were exploring and, naturally, got shot down. Then a few minutes later he tried to hit on Shadowheart and she also shot him down while telling him that next time he should try hitting on another woman when she’s out of earshot. 😂
Learned #2 the hard way. Had only a short rest before taking on the Goblin leaders, Orb of Scrying kept calling for reinforcements and ran out of higher lvl Spells fast. Had to retreat and create a choke point using Cloud of Daggers and some big ass summoned Ogres as meat shields. At the end of the fight I had only one character standing with 3 HP. Did I make a huge mistake? YES. Was the fight epic? Also YES. :)
I had a similar fight with a hag. I didn’t realize I had come up on her, and I didn’t have many spells left. I really lucked out though having a lvl 2 magic missile left and I found out that any damage will break an illusion
Companions are so thirsty, I was planning on romancing Karlach, but 1-2 bad choices later and I am taking part in some weird blood kink sex play with Asterion, Lae'zel wants my musk and Gale is... gale
A tip that makes weight management a lot easier is to keep food in your camp. that stuff takes up a huge amount of weight, but realistically you only use that food while in your camp...so keep it here. Find a chest near the center of camp, dump your food in there, and just take some out whenever you need to rest.
Don't you have a camp supplies bag in the inventory of you and your companions? I hadn't noticed yet, but does it also contribute or add the weight in it to your ovr carrying capacity?
I love most of the game, but I hate having to tiptoe around dialogue to avoid getting into a relationship. I actually thought the dialogue choices I'd made with Gale meant he and I were just becoming strong friends with all the inspiring speeches and such... only for him to later angrily confront me with an ultimatum. I was like... we had a thing going??
Ya I had that same experience with GALE. It is either "I am not interested in experiencing your magic Gale!!!" or "Let's get intimate through your magic and lustful longings." Where is the in between? Why didn't the narrator warn us about the feelings and longing looks of our teammates?
A valid complaint but it’s funny that the same thing does happen in real life. The more attractive a person is the more they experience it where you can’t even be nice to people without them looking too deep into it
Honestly, the romance I have seen so far is pretty good. Maybe I'm playing with different expectations and are therefore better at spotting what is intended as a romantic dialogue option. So far I've never accidentally lead any of the partymembers on and the ones who hit on my character I could just say no to. Would still welcome more friendly ways of saying it "I'm flattered, but no" is okay but it'd be nice to be able to emphasize how great being friends with them is.
They all take it well if you let them down nicely and aim to be friends. You can have some quite good platonic friendships with your party members if you let them down nicely. Easily the worst "accidental pick-up" though has to be asking Halsin if he'd like to join you for a drink. So hard to tell him "no I just meant a drink, not anything else"
I read a comment some time ago that said, “Karlach is life.” I couldn’t agree more. The first time I started to play I was trying to romance Shadowheart, but it gets very complicated with her. I actually stopped the game and restarted so I could romance Karlach. It honestly completely changed my level of emotional connection with the game. I love seeing my character and her truly be crazy about each other. I even noticed making choices in the game that definitely show my bias towards her. While I’m sure many people see it as pure titillation, having the romance in the game added a huge amount of emotional depth for me because I was treating it like they really do love each other and aren’t just out for a quick lay. It makes an exceptional game even more engaging. And the writing is awesome.
@@mikemcaulay9507 I understand what you mean and is one of the reasons why I'm so interested in playing BG3 and romancing a character, probably the green lady because I love the voice actress (Devora Wilde) and I find her voice SO FREAKING SEXY. Back on Mass Effect 2 I kind of "developed" feelings for Jack the crazy biotic chic and it did have an impact on how I played the game, all because of that emotional connection with her character, leading to a stronger connection with the game itself as well. Same happened with Triss in Witcher 3. I actually can't get myself to replay both games and romance someone different, it's weird but part of me doesn't want to experience the games without Jack or Triss as "my girl", so I can play the games as a good guy or a complete douche but I still romance them and treat them kindly 😂. From what I've seen and read about BG3 I think I'll also develop some sort of feelings for a companion (maybe Lae'zel, maybe Shadoweheart or maybe even Karlach) to the point I'll always think about them before making any in-game choices and even if I replayed the game years later I'd prefer to romance that same character again.

I have thought that one day I’ll have to try romancing someone else, but if it’s the same protagonist I keep creating for the game I think I’d feel like they were cheating on Karlach. What has intensified that connection is that her love of life and optimism have been a godsend in my life right now. Things have been pretty rough for a while now in my life but I’ve had trouble processing and dealing with the emotions (oddly, this usually isn’t a problem for me but at the moment, in my current circumstances, I just can’t seem to take the lid off the immense emotions swirling around inside). There are a lot of intense emotions in the Karlach arc that have allowed me to surface those feelings in a “safer” way. It sort of allows me to work out the grief in bites, then step away by focusing on the fact that it’s “just” a game. Put simply, it channels the intense emotions I’ve been keeping in about events in my life by providing a cathartic experience where I can let go and just feel. There is a scene towards the end that I played last night that had me absolutely bawling. Like crying so hard I had trouble breathing. The scene is so well written and feels so true to life that it really connects to some of the things that have been going on for me and my family the last six years. Maybe it’s because of where I’m at right now in my life, but I’ve never experienced anything, especially a game, with the kind of emotional depth routinely on display in BG3. Sorry if I bummed you out a bit, but this game has not only been an incredibly entertaining experience but an actual real life help in dealing with some of the crap life can throw at us sometimes. :) And the replayability is off the charts. What’s also interesting is that they keep working on it and adding new bits of content here and there, not just fixing bugs. So replays genuinely feel fresh IMHO.
PSA: Careful, you cant remove friend's custom character from your party. So if they stop playing, you cant tell the char to stay in camp and switch to another origin char.

About number 9... My playthrough summary (day 2): - Slept with Lazael. - Slept with Lazael again. - Astarion (companion) slept with Lazael. (Accident, 100% not intentionally). - Kissed Shadowheart.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who had a male companion coming on to them and was caught by surprise. "Woah Wyll, chill. Uhhhh, just trying to be a friend." Meanwhile, Shadowheart is still giving me a bit of the cold shoulder. The depth of the game, especially the combat, is insane. I feel like I could put in a few hundred hours and still be learning and discovering new things.
If ur too nice Or your actions are clapped on/approved by said companions, those companions will wub you. You can reject them without hurting anyones feelings though. They may try again later.
So far my ONLY gripe is that they don't have a Formation setup like in the OG Baldur's Gates and Neverwinter games. Should be able to have Tanks up front, Ranged and Casters in back, and everyone decently spaced out. But I can see that with the incredibly complex interactive maps and levels, this may have caused too many issues.
@@eternyti Alas, I didn' play Neverwinter (yet). My personal favorite combat mode is from Baldurs Gate - real-time with autopause on selected events. Real-time actions make the combat dynamic (and faster) while autopause gives you better reactions and less chance of missing important events (especialy if characters are all over the map).
The biggest mistake that I took too long realising was that you need to bring the relevant characters with you on their character quests. I was reluctant to change up my party too much because changing inventory and splitting good gear is such a pain on the PS5, but I missed out on getting Karlach help in Act 1 because she wasn't in my party and I was wondering why the options to talk about Karlach's heart wasn't showing up when I went to speak with Dammon. Also you need to bring Shadowheart along with you to the Temple of Shar in Act 2. I didn't have her in my party during the crucial Nightsong scene and she promptly left my party permanently because I didn't give her the chance to make the decision.
Found out the thirst traps are actually glitches. Larian said they hadn’t counted on romances to progress this quickly as the hidden point system for romance Wa a bit bugged making the love progress way faster than intended. Not sure if they patched that yet though
I’d say switching your class is not really a big deal, 100 gold per change and if you just loot all enemies of their equipment you’ll have plenty to spare, plus if you pick up silver and gold plates and cups.
I was pretty paranoid about resting for a long time. Part of it is that i really hate resting when i still have spells or abilities that can be used, it feels wasteful and, at least at first, i thought if i rested too often i might turn into a mind flayer. But now i rest more often, i really like blasting away with fireball so i gotta rest more often for my level 3 spells lol
Great video. My first release run through I went for Astarion romance, but before I could get him to nibble, Lae'zel threw herself at me. Thankfully you can back out of a romance you accidentally "joined". Fun times :D
Big tip: Beware the 'Enemy of Justice' bug. I just learned about 4ish hours of game play after getting it, and the only solution seems to be undoing all my work and regressing waaay back. I don't know much about it, so I'd recommend doing some research. All I'm gonna say is, don't go into the locked building in the grove, and be careful about how and when you kill the goblin priest in the ruins.
You dont have to find Withers he will eventually just show up in your camp. I never went to the temple he is in, like I said he just showed up at camp.
I’m happy I got to experience lae zel “flirt” earlier for myself. It was so awesome and unexpected. If I had seen this video before, it would have ruined the experience. Don’t get me wrong, great video. But that interaction was priceless enough for me to call it spoilers.

In a way I found it oddly had a touch of realism(in the context of the fantasy world). You were both getting high on a magic ritual and getting potentially hot and bothered by the goddess' touch. There is a lvl of communual intimacy. Even in my run, Gale afterwards doesnt see it as a romantic experience, simply... intimate.

The third way into the ruins is an entrace behind the ruins by the coast. There is a skeleton right by it. It leads you right into the Wither's crypt. This is the the third video I've recently seen of it not being mention, so I felt compelled to comment.
I feel like this just speaks to how much there is to this game though; I discovered this "entrance" when I used it as an exit, but the fact that there's 3 very different ways in which you can find yourself in this area, right at the very start of the game, just speaks to how many ways there are to do any one thing. Even the people who create these videos specifically to point this stuff out can miss it!

@@annalisemeder8894 there are actually at least 4 ways in: 1) picking (20) the lock below 2) persuading the bandits above to let you in though the door above 3) killing or getting rid of the bandits and breaking the hole open with the boulder on the rope 4) using the "back entrance" though the trap door
The "i'm into you" options are pretty clear you can just choose neutral aswers, i got 0 romance interactions with the ones i'm not trying to lick... And all of them are about to die it's natural try to do the thing
For 5, you can spread out your companions if the fight prior locks a character in chat. Only that character is locked and the others can be moved around freely.
The romance part is so true, im also working the moves on shadow heart and keep finding myself in situations with the others as if i care about any of them like that. Especially as a straight person playing a straight character, i always laugh when one of the guys come on to me, like nah bro we homies but not that type of homies.
The Gale one got me too. Like bro, you were staring at a hologram of a chick, wanted to show me some magic, and now we're staring into each others eyes? What?
On number 5, it's worth noting that you can change the selected character while you're in conversation (the button in the bottom-left of the screen) and move your characters while you're in the conversation so you avoid being grouped up, or get key characters to high ground, when the conversation is about to turn into a fight. So many people seem not to know this. On number 7, it's also worth noting that you can go to camp and return to the game without resting if you want to talk to someone or retrieve something from camp. Use the icon in the bottom right (the one you use to go to camp) and select "Return to Adventure". On number 8, it's not just Perception, it's Nature as well.
Great vid! I got hit by that ball to & yelled oh crap it is Indiana Jones all over again! The romancing doesn't bother but it does make me laugh sometimes! Lae'zel hitting on my character right after my moment with Gale was funny!
Yeah the part that keeps catching me off guard the most is the romance in this game, I thought gale was possibly going to teach my barbarian how to actually use magic and maybe get a small useless cantrip or something out of it, then it goes from "let me teach you how to use magic" to "let's make magic ;)". I haven't done any flirting with shadowheart but randomly she tells me I'm her closest companion and I had the option to sleep with her. I don't think they tied romance to progressing conversations so much as just your companions approval of you. It feels as rewarding as sleeping with Morrigan in DAO 5 minutes after you meet her.
Yea and DAO made you work for it, morrigan didnt just throw herself at you, and you had to be more than just nice to her, you had to raise her approval but you also had to pursue flirtatious dialogue with her. If you never flirted with her, it was really easy to end the game being morrigans homie, this is how RPG romances should work.
@@carsonnesbit1178 my point for DAO was it didn't make you work for it, I could in almost every playthrough sleep with her the first time we got to camp because I said what she wanted the entire hour she was in my party before that.
@@CidLufaine You can romance her fast if you want to, my point was that you actually have to flirt with her for it to go down that route. In bg3 companions romance you once you’ve simply been nice to them. You actually have to pursue romantic dialogue with morrigan if you want to go down that route. She never just starts flirting with you out of nowhere unless you’ve explicitly told her that you are interested. Otherwise you go through the game as her friend. That’s how all the romances in DAO work, I’m pretty certain on this, it was the first rpg I ever played and I still replay it to this day haha.
I lost 2 hours of play because the game crashed...Im usually pretty good at saving often too, but this game is so immersive I didnt even realize 2 hours passed until I lost my progress.
Resting often is bad because it can make you miss in game events by advancing the time by a day. I wish there was a video going into more detail about how long resting effects quests and when it's safe to long rest.
This is actually pretty intuitive if you're used to how the mechanics of RPGs function in general. But the short version is this: as a rule, you are safe to long rest as long as you have not triggered a scene. Long resting can be useful, not just for spell slots, but for triggering a lot of scenes with companions and even the main plot (with dreams and stuff). But, as you said, it can also advance time (only when you go to bed for the night though). It's only a problem if you do something like trigger a cutscene that is time relevant (like "hey, go save someone from a house that's on fire". if you take to long, people tend to burn to death.) ^^; Most of the time though, you know if you are walking into that kind of thing. Like, if you know you have been asked to go talk to a really important NPC, but haven't rested in a while, it's not a bad idea to rest before you go meet them. As long as you rest before the scene, it will kind of wait on you. But if you trigger a scene and then rest without taking care of things, it can be bad. (Again, this is only time relevant stuff though, like if someone;s life is in danger). Just as a simple example, I accidentally missed the location of Lae'zel at the beginning for a few days. I just didn't get close enough to trigger it. Rested I think 3 times before I found her. But since I never triggered the scene, it was fine. If I had triggered the scene with her being caught, and then walked away with her still in there, and then rested, that would have moved things forward and she would not be there after the rest. Oh, also moving along big plot points has this effect, even WITHOUT a long rest. The most obvious example is the big plot thing in act 1, of saving the grove or siding with the goblins. While there's still other things to do before and after, if you had unfinished quests, and then do this big one, a lot of things close off to you, or they advance in a different way. And it's not always just people in those locations it affects either. Big events like this can change dialog and events for people you didn't even meet yet. So when it comes to big events, it's a good idea to poke around, and if it feels like you are going to have to make any big choices, clean up all the little things you can beforehand.
I wish they'd offer some guidance on the "just bros" option Like in mass effect I played as male Shep and I found I was able to tread that like very well with Garrus as my go to bro while i flirted with Liara.
Broshep can't romance Garrus, so it's safe to choose any dialogue option with him. Femshep can only romance him if she throws herself at him after his loyalty mission and she only gets the one chance to start a romance.
About n°9 : I got a little greedy and tried to flirt with everyone (Fallout style). I had sex with Laezel pretty early on. I had the magic moment with Gale but was disappointed when coming on to him didn't lead to anywhere. My husband tipped me off that in this game most companions are monogamist, so I broke things off with Laezel. This caused me to get the dance scene with Wyll and got to slip in a couple of kisses. This pissed Gale off (which pissed me off: we aren't a couple yet Gale!) so I told him he was the one I liked. Further on Gale and I had sex. A couple of long rests later I broke it off in order to see if I could pursue anyone else. No luck with Asterion, Shadowheart or Karlach yet (I'm in early act 3) but I did get the option to suggest a foursome with the Drow twins and Halsin when I was in Sharess' Caress so I guess I have a shot with Halsin? So yeah, so far no polygamy but a trail of broken hearts. My husband has warned me that I might be creating a league of evil exes 😂
As for number 9, sometimes you don’t even need to try and they will still get the hots for you. I didn’t select any romance options at all for any characters other than Shadowheart. And yet near the end of Act 2, I had back to back long rests where Gale confessed his love for me under a magically generated night sky after contemplating his [REDACTED], followed up the next night by Wyll trying to get me to do some fancy intimate ballroom dancing. They were my 2 least used companions but their opinions of me were both at high. I guess they spent all that time at camp planning on how to seduce me

I decided to play as Karlach for my first run through. Didn’t know she had a quest line that needed me to talk to an npc in the grove, until after I already killed the goblins and had the party. I guess she’ll never love anyone lol I can’t fix the engine.
Wait, so on your playthrough the grove is already sealed? Damn that's rough. The NPC you needed to talk to was a Tiefling blacksmith in the nearby encampment of NPCs outside of the druids' sanctum, same area you find Wyll. The quest he sends you on after that is to pick up some infernal ore that is found within the Goblin stronghold. You should be able to find some elsewhere too, but if that blacksmith character is gone then it doesn't do any good
@@dlc_2678 it’s not sealed. The grove is safe and liberated. But all the Tieflings leave when it’s all said and done. I have all the infernal metal possible in the first act. Nothing to do with it tho.
Damn, I just randomly stumbled across this dialogue just before the party because I had Karlakh in my party and wanted to sell some loot from the goblin camp. 😂
@@andersfrieden567 Yeah visiting multiple merchants is always a good idea since their gold supply is limited, and if you are a loot whore like I am when all the baddies are dead after a fight and take everything that isn't nailed down, chances are you still have stuff left over after exhausting the gold in their inventory, so you have to either find another one, or do a long rest so they can restock. 😂
Careful about ranging too far or waiting on dialogues. While still in the Goblin camp, you can get to Waukeen’s Rest, but there's a time limited quest (you can't camp), and if you save and reload as if you never saw the quest... to bad timer lasts through the save game (bug post hotfix 4 re-roll out). If you finish the goblin trio quest without talking to Krolla 3 times, too bad no pet for joo! It's crazy, how things can go from 0 to 60 SESO no joke.
No.9 is also a complaint I have with other kinds of friendly interactions in this game. There seems to be a lack of a more mild mannered path more often than not. Trying to be nice could be appealing to their emotional side, or to their rational logic, or simply...talking it out. Yet very often I feel that in between the other three "these are the ways I can carve your skull in, you coward", even the nice one is basically: "A coward like you would fall at the first strike, you´d be no help to anybody" where I´m wondering: was that reeeeeeeally such a nice thing to say, sure it worked in achieving a nonviolent resolution but like, between three "omfg" options and one "at least I only hurt them with words" one there isn´t much in between.
Number 9 is just hilarious at times, I romanced Karlach and after progressing enough through her side quest she wants some 1v1 time. When I end the day instead of a fiery hell woman, I was greeted by Wyll trying to dance his way into my pants
Mind reading potion, Giant Strength potion, Animal Speaking Potion and their scroll counter parts, stock up and don't be afraid to use them after each long rest, very worth it
@@Silasftww mind reading potion is nice for me so I don't need to waste a spell slot. I've came across a decent detected thoughts during dialog to find it worth it. As for the Giant Strengths I play as a sorcerer and it more than doubles my carry weight and jump. Plus if an enemy gets to close to me or I can push them away with ease
the advice to save often is key. Save before you come across traps. Even if you detect the trap your companions can sometimes trigger them anyway. The hag's dungeon comes to mind
It's so ridiculous to me when ppl complain about only having options to flirt or be rude when all if them have at least 3 conversation options, each of them being very obvious... You know this is an RPG, you know these ppl are romanceable. If you can't figure out that the conversation option to 'distract them in an intimate manner' is the flirting option, that's on you! And even characters who bring their attraction up first can easily be turned down, letting you have a friendship and zero loss of approval. (Also, for the two characters that do hit on you first: it fits their personalities and backgrounds. Either you want well written characters with different personalities and approaches to things in a game or...)
going in blind with tactician wouldnt say ruin it but definetly brutal difficulty especially in act 2 with 200+ hp bosses, warlock eldritch blast enjoyers rise up
If you do accidentally pursue romance with someone, there's always the option to back out and tell the one you want that you're ACTUALLY interested in them. One time I long rested and randomly found Wyll dancing around the camp, and when I spoke to him, he clearly thought I wanted him. I agree with number 9 for sure, and it can make number 7 feel a bit odd at times. I love that you can go round and rizz every companion but weather that's what you want really depends on the character you want to play and with a lot of the companions there's a lack of options that are in between being pretty mean and "We'll bang, okay?". It's a bit odd you can't just be good bros and still form friendly relationships with your party members without them throwing themselves at you all the time lol Certainly not a complaint by any means, but unless your character wants to be a top shagger or a big meanie, the lack of a middle ground can feel a bit odd 😂
Similar to the last mistake in the video, i had the party after resolving the grove and because karlach wasnt a companion at the time, it ment im now locked out from romancing her as for some reason if any potential party member aren't part of your camp before that party event, you are just locked out of being able to romance them.
I play without using saves during the passage, one death of the group and everything from the beginning. The game turns out to be unhurried, you understand and analyze every enemy killed. I recommend. It's like a test, as if the adventure ended in real life.
All these videos are hilarious. In our multiplayer not a single person has been sexually advanced and we are all feeling neglected lol. I even tried to go to each companion at the party and they all rejected me lol
During the play test, 8:26 I couldn't get Lae'zel to vibe me the time of day. But now she is throwing herself at me every other day. Been trying hard with Shadowheart and we even shared some nice moments. But hard so say no when Lae Bae is throwing that boots at me.

Ah hell no. She told me the terms and conditions, and I was out. This was after I had met Raphael and got Wyll's warning about Devil's saying they want something small, but it ending up being a trick and so much more. So now I just don't trust anyone wanting to make a deal in this game.

9 is probably the one thing i would have liked a bit different. I think simply making it so all romance dialog had to be chosen and made clear that it was romance, and adding another dialog option that basically avoided romance without completely shutting them down would have been nice. Like some of the romance dialog is very vauge and easy to mistake for regular dialog.

Constantly reloading games tires me out more than anything I completely disagree with you.
Failing a skill check isn't a mistake it's a narrative, there is no reason to reload.
For Number 5 I've found the best approach is when you start a conversation and it seems like things are about to go south hit the "Character Select" button. It lets you switch to your other characters while your speaking character and the about-to-be-hostile NPCs are held in the conversation. Then you can ungroup them and position them wherever is best for the upcoming fight.
About Romance, you actually just have to say no. Companions don't really disapprove you not wanting them. And it's a merry band of people not knowing each day if they will live to see another one. I completely get why they'd be more direct with their intentions and coming onto the player. My only regret is not having much of them coming onto each other, once you've rejected them for example. That would make sense and clear out a bit your options !
Then again, Larian precised you could be polyamorous, or pick someone and change later for personal reasons so, closing options wouldn't really match with that intent.

Learned #2 the hard way. Had only a short rest before taking on the Goblin leaders, Orb of Scrying kept calling for reinforcements and ran out of higher lvl Spells fast. Had to retreat and create a choke point using Cloud of Daggers and some big ass summoned Ogres as meat shields. At the end of the fight I had only one character standing with 3 HP. Did I make a huge mistake? YES. Was the fight epic? Also YES. :)

I had a similar fight with a hag. I didn’t realize I had come up on her, and I didn’t have many spells left. I really lucked out though having a lvl 2 magic missile left and I found out that any damage will break an illusion

Companions are so thirsty, I was planning on romancing Karlach, but 1-2 bad choices later and I am taking part in some weird blood kink sex play with Asterion, Lae'zel wants my musk and Gale is... gale
A tip that makes weight management a lot easier is to keep food in your camp. that stuff takes up a huge amount of weight, but realistically you only use that food while in your camp...so keep it here. Find a chest near the center of camp, dump your food in there, and just take some out whenever you need to rest.
Don't you have a camp supplies bag in the inventory of you and your companions? I hadn't noticed yet, but does it also contribute or add the weight in it to your ovr carrying capacity?
@prinzkulit2496 you have a camp supply bag but it counts to your weight. About 60% of my characters inventory weight came from that bag.
Just right click the food and click "Send to camp". It will be there and won't weigh you down

I actually thought the dialogue choices I'd made with Gale meant he and I were just becoming strong friends with all the inspiring speeches and such... only for him to later angrily confront me with an ultimatum. Honestly, the romance I have seen so far is pretty good. Maybe I'm playing with different expectations and are therefore better at spotting what is intended as a romantic dialogue option. So far I've never accidentally lead any of the partymembers on and the ones who hit on my character I could just say no to. Would still welcome more friendly ways of saying it "I'm flattered, but no" is okay but it'd be nice to be able to emphasize how great being friends with them is.

They all take it well if you let them down nicely and aim to be friends. You can have some quite good platonic friendships with your party members if you let them down nicely.

I read a comment some time ago that said, “Karlach is life.” I couldn’t agree more.
The first time I started to play I was trying to romance Shadowheart, but it gets very complicated with her. I actually stopped the game and restarted so I could romance Karlach.
It honestly completely changed my level of emotional connection with the game. I love seeing my character and her truly be crazy about each other. I even noticed making choices in the game that definitely show my bias towards her.
While I’m sure many people see it as pure titillation, having the romance in the game added a huge amount of emotional depth for me because I was treating it like they really do love each other and aren’t just out for a quick lay.
It makes an exceptional game even more engaging. And the writing is awesome.
@@mikemcaulay9507 I understand what you mean and is one of the reasons why I'm so interested in playing BG3 and romancing a character, probably the green lady because I love the voice actress (Devora Wilde) and I find her voice SO FREAKING SEXY.
Back on Mass Effect 2 I kind of "developed" feelings for Jack the crazy biotic chic and it did have an impact on how I played the game, all because of that emotional connection with her character, leading to a stronger connection with the game itself as well.
Same happened with Triss in Witcher 3. I actually can't get myself to replay both games and romance someone different, it's weird but part of me doesn't want to experience the games without Jack or Triss as "my girl", so I can play the games as a good guy or a complete douche but I still romance them and treat them kindly 😂.
From what I've seen and read about BG3 I think I'll also develop some sort of feelings for a companion (maybe Lae'zel, maybe Shadoweheart or maybe even Karlach) to the point I'll always think about them before making any in-game choices and even if I replayed the game years later I'd prefer to romance that same character again.

What has intensified that connection is that her love of life and optimism have been a godsend in my life right now.
Things have been pretty rough for a while now in my life but I’ve had trouble processing and dealing with the emotions (oddly, this usually isn’t a problem for me but at the moment, in my current circumstances, I just can’t seem to take the lid off the immense emotions swirling around inside). There are a lot of intense emotions in the Karlach arc that have allowed me to surface those feelings in a “safer” way. It sort of allows me to work out the grief in bites, then step away by focusing on the fact that it’s “just” a game. Put simply, it channels the intense emotions I’ve been keeping in about events in my life by providing a cathartic experience where I can let go and just feel.
There is a scene towards the end that I played last night that had me absolutely bawling. Like crying so hard I had trouble breathing. The scene is so well written and feels so true to life that it really connects to some of the things that have been going on for me and my family the last six years.
Maybe it’s because of where I’m at right now in my life, but I’ve never experienced anything, especially a game, with the kind of emotional depth routinely on display in BG3.
Sorry if I bummed you out a bit, but this game has not only been an incredibly entertaining experience but an actual real life help in dealing with some of the crap life can throw at us sometimes. :)
And the replayability is off the charts. What’s also interesting is that they keep working on it and adding new bits of content here and there, not just fixing bugs. So replays genuinely feel fresh IMHO.
PSA: Careful, you cant remove friend's custom character from your party. So if they stop playing, you cant tell the char to stay in camp and switch to another origin char.

This game suffers from "They are nice to me...They must want sex."
I'm glad I'm not the only one who had a male companion coming on to them and was caught by surprise.

Meanwhile, Shadowheart is still giving me a bit of the cold shoulder.
The depth of the game, especially the combat, is insane. I feel like I could put in a few hundred hours and still be learning and discovering new things.

All companions can come onto you, both the men and women.
So far my ONLY gripe is that they don't have a Formation setup like in the OG Baldur's Gates and Neverwinter games. Should be able to have Tanks up front, Ranged and Casters in back, and everyone decently spaced out. But I can see that with the incredibly complex interactive maps and levels, this may have caused too many issues.
They do have a formation setup, I can't remember the button, but it is there.
You mostly have to just do it manually. Move your tanks up front and keep your spell casters in the back. It's not that complicated bro
Just Hit G and then place them. Then enter turn based mode and engage
My complaint is its turn-based instead of RTS like Neverwinter was. But that's just my personal preference.

My personal favorite combat mode is from Baldurs Gate - real-time with autopause on selected events. Real-time actions make the combat dynamic (and faster) while autopause gives you better reactions and less chance of missing important events (especialy if characters are all over the map).
I mean when youre in gales shoes, you probably feel like you can get anyone with minimal effort
The biggest mistake that I took too long realising was that you need to bring the relevant characters with you on their character quests. I was reluctant to change up my party too much because changing inventory and splitting good gear is such a pain on the PS5, but I missed out on getting Karlach help in Act 1 because she wasn't in my party and I was wondering why the options to talk about Karlach's heart wasn't showing up when I went to speak with Dammon. Also you need to bring Shadowheart along with you to the Temple of Shar in Act 2. I didn't have her in my party during the crucial Nightsong scene and she promptly left my party permanently because I didn't give her the chance to make the decision.
Found out the thirst traps are actually glitches. Larian said they hadn’t counted on romances to progress this quickly as the hidden point system for romance Wa a bit bugged making the love progress way faster than intended. Not sure if they patched that yet though
I’d say switching your class is not really a big deal, 100 gold per change and if you just loot all enemies of their equipment you’ll have plenty to spare, plus if you pick up silver and gold plates and cups.
And you can steal the gold back anyway.
Don't forget books. Raiding bookshelves can net a fair amount of gold.
I was pretty paranoid about resting for a long time. Part of it is that i really hate resting when i still have spells or abilities that can be used, it feels wasteful and, at least at first, i thought if i rested too often i might turn into a mind flayer. But now i rest more often, i really like blasting away with fireball so i gotta rest more often for my level 3 spells lol
Great video. My first release run through I went for Astarion romance, but before I could get him to nibble, Lae'zel threw herself at me. Thankfully you can back out of a romance you accidentally "joined". Fun times :D
Big tip: Beware the 'Enemy of Justice' bug.
I just learned about 4ish hours of game play after getting it, and the only solution seems to be undoing all my work and regressing waaay back. I don't know much about it, so I'd recommend doing some research. All I'm gonna say is, don't go into the locked building in the grove, and be careful about how and when you kill the goblin priest in the ruins.
You dont have to find Withers he will eventually just show up in your camp. I never went to the temple he is in, like I said he just showed up at camp.
The most important tip is to change in gameplay settings to highlight NPC without it is hard to find them.
Can't wait for the "why you should betrail/kill" video séries.

In a way I found it oddly had a touch of realism(in the context of the fantasy world). You were both getting high on a magic ritual and getting potentially hot and bothered by the goddess' touch. There is a lvl of communual intimacy. Even in my run, Gale afterwards doesnt see it as a romantic experience, simply... intimate.

The third way into the ruins is an entrace behind the ruins by the coast. There is a skeleton right by it. It leads you right into the Wither's crypt. This is the the third video I've recently seen of it not being mention, so I felt compelled to comment.
I feel like this just speaks to how much there is to this game though; I discovered this "entrance" when I used it as an exit, but the fact that there's 3 very different ways in which you can find yourself in this area, right at the very start of the game, just speaks to how many ways there are to do any one thing. Even the people who create these videos specifically to point this stuff out can miss it!

1) picking (20) the lock below
2) persuading the bandits above to let you in though the door above
3) killing or getting rid of the bandits and breaking the hole open with the boulder on the rope
4) using the "back entrance" though the trap door

For 5, you can spread out your companions if the fight prior locks a character in chat. Only that character is locked and the others can be moved around freely.
The romance part is so true, im also working the moves on shadow heart and keep finding myself in situations with the others as if i care about any of them like that. Especially as a straight person playing a straight character, i always laugh when one of the guys come on to me, like nah bro we homies but not that type of homies.

On number 5, it's worth noting that you can change the selected character while you're in conversation (the button in the bottom-left of the screen) and move your characters while you're in the conversation so you avoid being grouped up, or get key characters to high ground, when the conversation is about to turn into a fight. So many people seem not to know this.
On number 7, it's also worth noting that you can go to camp and return to the game without resting if you want to talk to someone or retrieve something from camp. Use the icon in the bottom right (the one you use to go to camp) and select "Return to Adventure".
On number 8, it's not just Perception, it's Nature as well.
Great vid! I got hit by that ball to & yelled oh crap it is Indiana Jones all over again! The romancing doesn't bother but it does make me laugh sometimes! Lae'zel hitting on my character right after my moment with Gale was funny!
Yeah the part that keeps catching me off guard the most is the romance in this game, I thought gale was possibly going to teach my barbarian how to actually use magic and maybe get a small useless cantrip or something out of it, then it goes from "let me teach you how to use magic" to "let's make magic ;)". I haven't done any flirting with shadowheart but randomly she tells me I'm her closest companion and I had the option to sleep with her. I don't think they tied romance to progressing conversations so much as just your companions approval of you.
It feels as rewarding as sleeping with Morrigan in DAO 5 minutes after you meet her.
Yea and DAO made you work for it, morrigan didnt just throw herself at you, and you had to be more than just nice to her, you had to raise her approval but you also had to pursue flirtatious dialogue with her.
If you never flirted with her, it was really easy to end the game being morrigans homie, this is how RPG romances should work.
@@carsonnesbit1178 my point for DAO was it didn't make you work for it, I could in almost every playthrough sleep with her the first time we got to camp because I said what she wanted the entire hour she was in my party before that.

In bg3 companions romance you once you’ve simply been nice to them. You actually have to pursue romantic dialogue with morrigan if you want to go down that route.
She never just starts flirting with you out of nowhere unless you’ve explicitly told her that you are interested. Otherwise you go through the game as her friend.
That’s how all the romances in DAO work, I’m pretty certain on this, it was the first rpg I ever played and I still replay it to this day haha.

I lost 2 hours of play because the game crashed...Im usually pretty good at saving often too, but this game is so immersive I didnt even realize 2 hours passed until I lost my progress.
Resting often is bad because it can make you miss in game events by advancing the time by a day. I wish there was a video going into more detail about how long resting effects quests and when it's safe to long rest.
This is actually pretty intuitive if you're used to how the mechanics of RPGs function in general. But the short version is this: as a rule, you are safe to long rest as long as you have not triggered a scene. Long resting can be useful, not just for spell slots, but for triggering a lot of scenes with companions and even the main plot (with dreams and stuff). But, as you said, it can also advance time (only when you go to bed for the night though). It's only a problem if you do something like trigger a cutscene that is time relevant (like "hey, go save someone from a house that's on fire". if you take to long, people tend to burn to death.) ^^; Most of the time though, you know if you are walking into that kind of thing. Like, if you know you have been asked to go talk to a really important NPC, but haven't rested in a while, it's not a bad idea to rest before you go meet them. As long as you rest before the scene, it will kind of wait on you. But if you trigger a scene and then rest without taking care of things, it can be bad. (Again, this is only time relevant stuff though, like if someone;s life is in danger). Just as a simple example, I accidentally missed the location of Lae'zel at the beginning for a few days. I just didn't get close enough to trigger it. Rested I think 3 times before I found her. But since I never triggered the scene, it was fine. If I had triggered the scene with her being caught, and then walked away with her still in there, and then rested, that would have moved things forward and she would not be there after the rest.
Oh, also moving along big plot points has this effect, even WITHOUT a long rest. The most obvious example is the big plot thing in act 1, of saving the grove or siding with the goblins. While there's still other things to do before and after, if you had unfinished quests, and then do this big one, a lot of things close off to you, or they advance in a different way. And it's not always just people in those locations it affects either. Big events like this can change dialog and events for people you didn't even meet yet. So when it comes to big events, it's a good idea to poke around, and if it feels like you are going to have to make any big choices, clean up all the little things you can beforehand.
This is wild because my camp companions just keep saying the same 4 things to me and won’t talk to me like at all except the basic very first dialogue

Like in mass effect I played as male Shep and I found I was able to tread that like very well with Garrus as my go to bro while i flirted with Liara.
Broshep can't romance Garrus, so it's safe to choose any dialogue option with him. Femshep can only romance him if she throws herself at him after his loyalty mission and she only gets the one chance to start a romance.
About n°9 : I got a little greedy and tried to flirt with everyone (Fallout style). I had sex with Laezel pretty early on. I had the magic moment with Gale but was disappointed when coming on to him didn't lead to anywhere. My husband tipped me off that in this game most companions are monogamist, so I broke things off with Laezel. This caused me to get the dance scene with Wyll and got to slip in a couple of kisses. This pissed Gale off (which pissed me off: we aren't a couple yet Gale!) so I told him he was the one I liked. Further on Gale and I had sex. A couple of long rests later I broke it off in order to see if I could pursue anyone else. No luck with Asterion, Shadowheart or Karlach yet (I'm in early act 3) but I did get the option to suggest a foursome with the Drow twins and Halsin when I was in Sharess' Caress so I guess I have a shot with Halsin? So yeah, so far no polygamy but a trail of broken hearts. My husband has warned me that I might be creating a league of evil exes 😂

As for number 9, sometimes you don’t even need to try and they will still get the hots for you. I didn’t select any romance options at all for any characters other than Shadowheart. And yet near the end of Act 2, I had back to back long rests where Gale confessed his love for me under a magically generated night sky after contemplating his [REDACTED], followed up the next night by Wyll trying to get me to do some fancy intimate ballroom dancing. They were my 2 least used companions but their opinions of me were both at high. I guess they spent all that time at camp planning on how to seduce me
i'm still early in the game but laezel suddenly got the hots for me after i killed some owl bear, her cub and stole her egg. she was basically like "you're tougher then i thought, i respect that, now i want to bone you."
Withers will eventually appear at camp if you dont want to go get him

I decided to play as Karlach for my first run through. Didn’t know she had a quest line that needed me to talk to an npc in the grove, until after I already killed the goblins and had the party. I guess she’ll never love anyone lol I can’t fix the engine.
Wait, so on your playthrough the grove is already sealed? Damn that's rough. The NPC you needed to talk to was a Tiefling blacksmith in the nearby encampment of NPCs outside of the druids' sanctum, same area you find Wyll. The quest he sends you on after that is to pick up some infernal ore that is found within the Goblin stronghold. You should be able to find some elsewhere too, but if that blacksmith character is gone then it doesn't do any good
@@dlc_2678 it’s not sealed. The grove is safe and liberated. But all the Tieflings leave when it’s all said and done. I have all the infernal metal possible in the first act. Nothing to do with it tho.
Damn, I just randomly stumbled across this dialogue just before the party because I had Karlakh in my party and wanted to sell some loot from the goblin camp. 😂
@@andersfrieden567 Yeah visiting multiple merchants is always a good idea since their gold supply is limited, and if you are a loot whore like I am when all the baddies are dead after a fight and take everything that isn't nailed down, chances are you still have stuff left over after exhausting the gold in their inventory, so you have to either find another one, or do a long rest so they can restock. 😂

Regarding number 6 - unless I am mistaken pushing enemies over ledges means the loot they have goes with them.

Careful about ranging too far or waiting on dialogues. While still in the Goblin camp, you can get to Waukeen’s Rest, but there's a time limited quest (you can't camp), and if you save and reload as if you never saw the quest... to bad timer lasts through the save game (bug post hotfix 4 re-roll out). If you finish the goblin trio quest without talking to Krolla 3 times, too bad no pet for joo!

No.9 is also a complaint I have with other kinds of friendly interactions in this game. There seems to be a lack of a more mild mannered path more often than not. Trying to be nice could be appealing to their emotional side, or to their rational logic, or simply...talking it out. Yet very often I feel that in between the other three "these are the ways I can carve your skull in, you coward", even the nice one is basically: "A coward like you would fall at the first strike, you´d be no help to anybody" where I´m wondering: was that reeeeeeeally such a nice thing to say, sure it worked in achieving a nonviolent resolution but like, between three "omfg" options and one "at least I only hurt them with words" one there isn´t much in between.
Number 9 is just hilarious at times, I romanced Karlach and after progressing enough through her side quest she wants some 1v1 time. When I end the day instead of a fiery hell woman, I was greeted by Wyll trying to dance his way into my pants

@@Silasftww mind reading potion is nice for me so I don't need to waste a spell slot. I've came across a decent detected thoughts during dialog to find it worth it. As for the Giant Strengths I play as a sorcerer and it more than doubles my carry weight and jump. Plus if an enemy gets to close to me or I can push them away with ease

the advice to save often is key. Save before you come across traps. Even if you detect the trap your companions can sometimes trigger them anyway. The hag's dungeon comes to mind

It's so ridiculous to me when ppl complain about only having options to flirt or be rude when all if them have at least 3 conversation options, each of them being very obvious...
You know this is an RPG, you know these ppl are romanceable. If you can't figure out that the conversation option to 'distract them in an intimate manner' is the flirting option, that's on you!
And even characters who bring their attraction up first can easily be turned down, letting you have a friendship and zero loss of approval.
(Also, for the two characters that do hit on you first: it fits their personalities and backgrounds. Either you want well written characters with different personalities and approaches to things in a game or...)

Didn’t even know about resting… spent a long time getting to the point of finding the devil and two goblin/orcs banging in a barn.
If you do accidentally pursue romance with someone, there's always the option to back out and tell the one you want that you're ACTUALLY interested in them. One time I long rested and randomly found Wyll dancing around the camp, and when I spoke to him, he clearly thought I wanted him. Which is nice, because in the future I might, but considering I went my whole first playthrough without a romance, the second time through I wanted one specific character and it wasn't Wyll. After I kissed him though (why not? He's cute enough) then two characters told me that they were interested but clearly I was with Wyll, and I told one of them nope, I want you instead. LOL!

I love that you can go round and rizz every companion but weather that's what you want really depends on the character you want to play and with a lot of the companions there's a lack of options that are in between being pretty mean and "We'll bang, okay?". It's a bit odd you can't just be good bros and still form friendly relationships with your party members without them throwing themselves at you all the time lol
Certainly not a complaint by any means, but unless your character wants to be a top shagger or a big meanie, the lack of a middle ground can feel a bit odd 😂

Similar to the last mistake in the video, i had the party after resolving the grove and because karlach wasnt a companion at the time, it ment im now locked out from romancing her as for some reason if any potential party member aren't part of your camp before that party event, you are just locked out of being able to romance them.
I play without using saves during the passage, one death of the group and everything from the beginning. The game turns out to be unhurried, you understand and analyze every enemy killed. I recommend. It's like a test, as if the adventure ended in real life.

All these videos are hilarious. In our multiplayer not a single person has been sexually advanced and we are all feeling neglected lol. I even tried to go to each companion at the party and they all rejected me lol
During the play test, 8:26 I couldn't get Lae'zel to vibe me the time of day. But now she is throwing herself at me every other day. Been trying hard with Shadowheart and we even shared some nice moments. But hard so say no when Lae Bae is throwing that boots at me.

the other option to let Volo to remove it, u get a buff seeing invisibles in 9m distance, no debuffes I noticed doing that. Visualy makes one eye green.
Or you can just choose the Heterochromia option when customizing your appearance, without having your eye gouged out...
