    One very important tip: harvest cat tail stalks, each 150 calories. They have kept me alive many times. Always carry 5 to 10 cloth on you to build snow shelters - sticks are easy to find. Hide from terrible weather in the beginning. If the storm last too long, go outside and repair your snow shelter. Cloth is easy to come by in the beginning, rip up the curtains. Later on you might find old bedrolls in trailers and those give 6-10 cloth. Travel light, cat tail stalks don't go bad, do you really need a hacksaw everywhere, or even a riffle? In signal void, keep an eye on the weight of the wires and spare fuses... yeah, they add up quickly.

      Yup they don't weigh much either. Honestly I think it just might be the best food in the game as they also never go bad!

    They day/night cycle tip is a very good tip. You can't sprint or read books while exhausted but that is about it. Everything else is doable. Cook, break down something or repair clothing and tools/weapons. The condition hit you are going to get from being exhausted for a few hours waiting for night isn't even worth considering, in my opinion.

    I think weight management is the most important thing for players to learn. It’s tempting to try and haul everything you find across great bear but that just won’t work. It’s better to decide on a good somewhat central location and setup an outpost for that region. Have water, wood, and bandages there since they won’t be ruined like food can and they tend to be more important. I also think it’s good to do some exploring as night falls cause warmer weather tends to happen later in the day so I find I don’t leave my base till around noon as morning temps are very cold even with some of the best clothing.

    • @leopardtrixgaming
      @leopardtrixgaming  11 месяцев назад +2

      Weight management is definitely important for sure. I must say I hadnt noticed in regard to temps being better later in the day, I feel like it also depends on the region? But maybe that is something to keep track of indeed. I tend not to carry too much wood as it is heavy and u can find it pretty much anywhere but def water, food and bandages. Thanks for adding that! :)

      @@leopardtrixgaming I find clothing is often one of the heaviest things next to gear items like bedrools and tools. I dump all the extra tools I find into a central base location as well. I started a voyager run recently since I still haven't finished certain achievements I want and so I tend to carry around stuff I normally wouldn't like a pry bar.

      No, I NEED 10 pounds of meat, an armful of flares, lots of firewood, a gallon of water, a book to read, and enough ammunition to hunt Great Bear to extinction. My trip to the gas station could go terribly wrong and I want to be ready for it!

    I hate to be nitpicky, but for tip #2 you technically do not warm up faster. Its just faster in real time, not the game. Sleeping also warms you up "faster". Nevertheless, its a detail new players may not have thought about, so good tip :)

      Thanks so much! No worries, it is always nice if people add to the info. And yeah I guess I mean it feels faster just cuz time is sped up rather than it actually taking less time. I probs could of been clearer on that but thanks for adding that! I appreciate it :)

    This is a really great video. As a new player who recognizes TLD is one of those games that isn’t going to hold your hand and you’ll probably need to look up RUclips videos for help. It can be very disheartening to see that a majority of the tutorial videos for the game are over a year, or in the case of this game: two years or more.
    You have to make sure all the tips you’re getting aren’t outdated. I can’t tell you how many project zomboid, or minecraft guides I watched and then tried to use just to find out they’re outdated and don’t work anymore. So with all that said your video is a blessing only being a couple months old. I’ve known about TLD for a long time but only started playing since it got added to the PlayStation Plus. You should get a new Mic tho! You have a nice voice but you mic is a little rough lol

      Thanks so much I appreciate it and I'm glad the video is helpful. I do have another tip video as well, might be a few more handy tips in there ruclips.net/video/4mtygb4G1mU/видео.html. It is frustrating when you try out tips that are outdated.
      Sorry about the mic sounding a lil rough! To be honest I dont have a fancy mic or anything at the moment. I will keep that in mind though! Will probs have to save up a bit for a good one 😅

      Yeah the update is cool, been trying to find all the new items. I found one of the new recipes yesterday.

  • @recarsion
    @recarsion Год назад +3

    An asterisk about repairing clothes is that while theoretically you have an infinite supply of cloth and fishing tackles, it's a good idea to preserve these especially at higher difficulties. You can maximize their longevity by only repairing when you can get the maximum repair amount out of them. For example, you can get like +50% on smaller items like socks, gloves and hats with a single repair, so if you repair when the item is at let's say 80%, it's a bit of a waste because you only repair 20% instead of the 50% you could get. By repairing at 50% condition, you maximize the longevity of both your repair kits and the available cloth, granted, at the price of having less cold protection.

    • @leopardtrixgaming
      @leopardtrixgaming  Год назад +1

      You make a great point indeed. I guess maybe I am just a lil paranoid when I have my favourite items and if I suddenly get attacked that I risk ruining the items if they're not high enough condition. Though yeah, especially for the high difficulties I agree with you! Thanks for adding that :)

    Great video! I'd add a few for new players too...
    11: Don't feel ashamed to Pilgrim. If wolves are freaking you out or you find the game tough, The Long Dark is perfectly relaxing and enjoyable as a cosy-catastrophe hiking adventure. It's also a good way of testing the games systems and learning.
    12: Crouch when exiting buildings. This greatly reduces your detectability from wildlife and helps ensure you won't be jumped by a wolf on the other side.
    13: Choose a hub for each region when you're looting and store any duplicate goods there, then use the in-game notepad to keep a record of the stash. Then when you're migrating you can look up what you don't need to carry.
    14: If you've got a fear of heights cross difficult logs, trestles and rope bridges in little increments, and turn down the volume. The lack of sound helps you objectify it a bit and by moving forward tiny increments you feel more in control if your hand starts shaking. I actually turn down mouse sensitivity when crossing Ash Canyon rope bridges! I know it's absurd but I freak slightly at them. Odd, as I love flying.
    15: Don't get greedy! Most runs are lost when you keep taking unnecessary risks, blinded by desire to achieve an objective such as looting a hotspot or switching a region. If the weather is unfavourable or you know a bear's out there but aren't sure where, then put it off until tomorrow unless there's pressing need.

    Haven’t played in a while so using this as a refresher. But when youre harvesting a frozen carcus, another reason to build a fire close to you and the carcus is because it thaws out the carcus as well making it less time consuming. Thanks for the video!
