Congratulation you found one of the most inspiring skilled and technical proficient piano player. Hiromi is absolutely astounding and pure joy to watch. Saw her several times live, breathtaking everytime and such a lovely humble person off stage too. And this was a rather simpler piece regarding what she’s able to play. Hiromi is a piano unicorn and this is THE piano player from Japan.
Hiromi is in a class of her own. I've also seen her multiple times and met/talked with her. Riyoko Takagi from Japan is also very good and worth checking out. She often repurposes regular classical pieces into jazz arrangements.
In Japan it is so hard to get live ticket of Hiromi and Band-Maid. IMO Hiromi and Kanami are Japanese treasure. I went to Band-Maid live on 22nd Feb.He he.
Big fan of Hiromi. Honestly, apart from the prepared piano technique here, this is only a small taste of her insane skill. You should absolutely check out her fusion stuff as Hiromi's Sonicbloom. And pay close attention to her left hand. She's got a habit of playing her left hand accompaniment in 5tuplets under whatever is going on (which often results in a polyrhythm).
Hiromi is incredible. My favorite stuff is the trio stuff she did with Simon Phillips and Anthony Jackson, but she is a must see in any capacity. Going to see her soon in Evanston. Can't wait. She has to practice non-stop.
I cannot thank you enough for reacting to Hiromi. She is simply amazing. If you ever want to relax and enjoy for yourself - listen to Hiromi's version of Paul McCartney's "BLACKBIRD"...truly outstanding.
Wave, I love how open you are to a wide range of music - Hiromi's music is responsible for making music such a big part of my daily life - a couple of years before I first heard "Breaking New Gate". You and Rosie should try and catch her the next time she passes thru - your face will hurt for a day from smiling so much.
Great find, thanks! Speaking of mind-blowing, check out Yoyoka's young jazz piano friend Ai Furusato, who has just gotten into the Berklee School of Music, at the wise old age of 11!!!
Pachelbel's Canon in D is the most covered piece of music in history. This clip is gimmicky but HIromi may be the best jazz pianist in the world right now. Her collaborations with Chick Corea are legendary--you should check them out.
She has 1 brain only, and she does not focus on either hand while playing. After a certain skill level on your instrument, you can effortlessly translate your thoughts and feelings into music. It isn't skill expression, it's self expression, that is what makes it honest and wonderful.
It is so sad to me that the entertainment industry claimed music as theirs, now we have to educate people on what music is, because even 70% of the musicians think of themselves as entertainers and true, honest music gets less and less importance as days go by.
Very Cool! Are Japanese girls the only ones that are always so happy playing music. They, as a group, for sure do the most smiling of any musicians....lol Don't even see it so much in other Asian cultures. Or, are they just smiling because they know they're always crushing it! I'll go with both.

I was exactly thinking about the same thing, that Hiromi and Kanami are Japan's national treasure. I am in total awe.
@@yokoijun6660 😁😁😋
Can't be that difficult. I've seen Hiromi 4 times in 4 different combos: solo / with Stanley Clarke / Trio project / with E. Castaneda
Hiromi is a total boss on the piano! I've seen her several times. Very nice in person too, I met and chatted with her after a show once.
Man I'm jealous, I saw her with Edmar Castaneda in Montreal a couple years back, but never had the chance to chat with her.
Wave, thank you for introducing me to this phenom! I am blown away by her and have gone down the Hiromi rabbit hole.
I’m so happy to hear that!

fantastic. thanks for introducing her to us.
Hiromi easily became one of my favorite piano players those last years.

Hiromi Uehara, The Trio Project, Live Jazz a Vienne, Dancando no Paraiso, w Anthony Jackson and Steve Smith, extraordinaria presentación....

This technique is called playing a “prepared piano” and it’s quite old. The avant garde guys, like John Cage, used to do this all of the time.
Putting objects on the strings, or playing them directly, used to be common in free jazz; Keith Tippett used to do it a lot
I've been a fan for 20 years.
Thanks to her ... I'm addicted to "Cape Cod Chips."
this should for sure be your GG pick for this week, would be a great conversation around this performance.

Wave thank you so much for introducing me to this incredible musician! Keep up the good work!
I’m glad you enjoyed it Chris!
Check out her trio
Hey you, have you heard her play with Simon Philips(drums) and Anthony Jackson(bas), The Trio Project?
Awesome, skill and joy

Right there - when she switched lead hands - that is how to develop hand independence.

Great news! I hope that Ai and Yoyoka can record an album one day!
She's a legend.
Hardly anyone performs concerts with the aura of someone who loves music as much as she does.
And everyone ends up falling in love with it.
I know the teacher who taught Hiromi Uehara JAZZ piano.
Hiromi UeharaにJAZZ ピアノを教えた先生の事を知ってるよ
She's the best
the human arpeggiator
She touch that piano she's already in her own isekai.

Anyway, she remind me of Nodame, her face and her playing style, it's like Nodame was based on her,
Yep, harpsichord, you beat me to it!
