    **Disclaimer **
    By general rule
    1k products do not require activators
    2k products require activators
    You can use activators in 1k products to speed up dry times if the chemical make up is compatible. I said 1k for the high tech and tractor supply clears due to their poor quality and lack of uv protection while they are technically 2k. Ultimately do your research regardless guys to see if it's a quality product.
    2k urethane clear coat has always been my choice for most paintwork.
    Thanks for watching!!!

    howdie all! I don't mean to disagree necessarily but 1k is referring to single component coatings. Such as any coating that doesn't use a hardener. 2k is referring to 2 component coatings. So by the books 1k = no hardener/catalyst, 2k = 2 part coatings. coating + hardener/catalyst. Hardener and catalyst is two different words for the same thing. High Teck is basically a relabeled matrix product. PS ive been running my own paint and body shop for 17 years and have been painting for 25. Those are both good clears you have there for the money.

    • @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS
      @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS  3 дня назад +1

      Yes just be careful with the 7000 clear coat it doesn't carry much UV protection and tends to lose its gloss after about a year the 8000 is a better quality clear so I'd go with that but they make some good products at a fair price thanks for watching!

    I see videos people mixing a pigment pearl into a "Mid Coat" clear. I'm not sure what they mean by Mid Coat. It seems that a base color like a black goes down and then the mixed pearl and then a 2k clear over it all. I had wondered if something like the T.S. Clear that is not good for a top coat might be good for something like that and then covered in a 2K. I used to see things like a Gloss Masstone Base but I don't see that any more an dwonder if it is just a clear that has been renamed. I don't know much about paints but with your videos I'm gonig to get there. Thanks for great stuff for those of us that want to know.

    • @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS
      @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS  Год назад +2

      Yeah when they say a midcoat they refer to what is considered an inner coat you can actually mix your pearls into plain binder which is what all paint is mixed in so essentially you're just spraying it in the clear liquid that paint goes in and you can get that by the gallons also

    • @dbc105
      @dbc105 Год назад +2

      @@WHITLEYAUTOWORKS LOL, well I looked up paint binder and got a link to Speedkote, so far so good and then find Universal Basecoat Binder right beside is Clear Mixing Base. LOL, the plot thickens.

    • @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS
      @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS  Год назад +1

      It all achieves the same outcome a clear base to add your pearls into rather than stacking it up with clear coat but speedokote is selling multiple products to make that money so I know that looks confusing lol

    Mr whitley hi I need some advice about painting I picked up some majic paint is it ok to use on a truck and what primer should I use with it ?

    • @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS
      @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS  Год назад

      You should be ok using most any primer as long as everything is prepped properly. I would stay away from using the majic brand stuff mostly the clear because it doesn't have any uv protection. I would more so recommend using rustoleum professional paint that you get at Lowe's with acetone to reduce it and speedokote 2k clear coat as it's in the same price range that you can get it off of Amazon to keep things as cheap and simple as possible. Hope this helps thanks for watching

      Yes as long as they are somewhat compatible however Rustoleum is a 1K paint and I shoot 2K urethane clear over it with zero issues so I would say if your question it do it on a small scale spray out first before you run the risk of messing up a whole car Thanks for watching

    You said that the 2k lasts as long as the cheaper cans, but it's much better. However, about the storage itself, I see they suggest throw the bottle after 48 hours of hardening? I know some people mention freezing it, but I don't know if that's officially recommended?

    • @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS
      @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS  8 месяцев назад

      Yeah the 2K urethane especially is by far the best as far as storage life on those cans though it varies I've never tried freezing them or anything like that I usually wait a day or two and then usually throw it away but mostly I mix my own stuff if you have any other questions though feel free to ask thanks for watching

    I have seen some High Teck 8000 value clear on ebay. It says its a 2k. I kind of took from this video that the High teck was just a 1k. But probably like any brand they have tiers and levels of products.

      You don't have to trash 2k clear the same day it usually keeps for a few days but you can use the 1k the finish just won't be as good as the 2k and it won't have the added UV protection I would recommend the 2k if you want it to last thanks for watching
