I'm glad you enjoyed this it's fast become my favourite version. It's all Geoff arrangement, instrumentation & all the voices!! He just knows exactly how to make the most of his incredible range.
That very low rumble is a plug-in sound, as are all the wonderful little background sounds creating the "sound of silence" in different verses. Geoff arranged, produced, performed, and edited the video, providing all the voices, playing the piano, bringing in all the other instruments. Eli did the subtle lighting for this; the lights raising and lowering of intensity as if Geoff was walking down the sidewalk beneath street lamps, the purple splash neon, the bright lights as Geoff pleads with people not to make the same mistake they already made - brilliant! Layne was the steadicam operator, and it was shot at PattyCake Productions studio. Geoff is wonderfully humble and is genuinely grateful for all of his supporters. I am very proud to be one of his patrons, as well as being a VoicePlay patron.
Geoff sent out an instrumental track to his patrons. That low Jurassic Park sound is NOT Geoff, it is instrumental. The vocals are all Geoff, he is amazing! There are basses who can sing lower than him and some who can sing higher. But it is the quality of the sound, it's rich, it's smooth, it's gorgeous. Geoff has said that when he is covering a song, he listens to the original over and over, then every cover that he can find. If he can't add something different, he walks away. Why do something that's already been done, right? He had help with the lighting and camera work on this one, but everything else is him. Great reaction, Bob!! Be prepared for the one that drops this Friday! Oh, and Voiceplay dropped Valhalla Calling last week. Do it now!
I heard it described really well. The OG was the warning, Disturbed's version was the anger, and Geoff's version is the sadness and reflection afterwards. Every time I listen to this cover, I cry. It touches my soul, and I feel like a am seeing the light at the end of a long, dark tunnel. Absolutely amazing cover. Some one added in that PTX cover is the pleading. Great reaction!
Yes, Geoff is singing all the voices, even though we don’t see his clones here like we usually do. But Layne (beatboxer) and Eli (tenor) from VoicePlay helped anyway: Layne on the camera and Eli with the lighting.
Awesome reaction to an amazingly beautiful song and video. This is all Geoff. His new video is coming out on Friday. It's really really good. We get 5 Geoff's.
Thank you for another priceless reaction to Geoff. He has a way of reaching deep down into your soul. The pain & sorrow he shows. It was Geoff singing all the parts. He is an amazing all around talent. Geoff is the master of everything he does.
Geoff did such an epic job! ... well, as he always does, the guy is amazing! All singing is him, and the rumble sound is an added effect, and it sounds great! He had help from Eli on lighting and Layne with video. They are a tight group of friends, and I love that about VoicePlay.
Everyone loves Rock God Geoff, but one of the moments in this arrangement I really appreciate earlier in the track is that when the back up Geoffs come in for "writing songs that" and then drop out for "voices never shared", so that no other voices were sharing the song with Geoff. It's not the only time the back up vocals dip in and out, but I think when they do it there it's really special.
Delighted to see your response. Love this so much - love Disturbed, but it's like two entirely different songs, for different moods. Geoff's ability to find musical lines that I never would have guessed were there simply blows me away. BTW - VoicePlay's newest, Valhalla Calling - is simply mind-bending. They just don't stop getting better.
The original came out when I was in college and it will always be my favorite. But this joins a couple of others on my "pretty close" list - the duet by Peter Hollens and Tim Foust and the trio of The Hound and the Fox with Adam Chance. All 3 are great - and totally different from each other. Yes, all the voices are Geoff. That deep rumble, whatever it is, just nibbles at the back of my brain.
Geoff is singing all of the vocals. Shout out to Eli on lighting and Layne on Steady cam. I love how they're more than bandmates, they're like a family. ✌️❤️🎶
Didn't think I would ever like anyone else singing this as much as Simon and Garfunkel, but Geoff did a very beautiful rendition of such an iconic song. His voice is so beautiful. This really is a relaxing and calming version 😌. ❤
A unique and beautiful rendition. Geoff brings sadness and angst to the song. That low note is something electronic added, not his voice. Obviously his backup Geoffs would not be appropriate to the song, but we hear them anyway in parts. Yes it's all him. Any help will be credited in the notes below the title. I think Eli helped with lights, for sure. Geoff always thanks his patrons. He's incredibly humble and sweet.
Eli did the lighting since it changes during the song and Layne did the Steadi-Cam. Geoff only uses his clones on his solos. While Simon and Garfunkel's version resides on my top shelf - have loved it for over 55 years. I wish that S&G had been awarded Nobel Laureate status for the pure poetry of their music. I heard Disturbed's version but it felt one dimensional to me. Both S&G and Geoff really played into the emotional content of this. I love Geoff's arrangement of this and since he released it, I've listened to nearly every day. Thanks for reacting!
TBCH (which I've stated elsewhere!) ... 1st listen, I didn't care for it much; most of us have that "way" a song is to be due to the original and it's "feeling'. Gave it a few more "listens" -- It's absolutely BRILLIANT!!! And Yes! Geoff has worked hard over the last so many years to get that "sound" -- and oh damn it's good. Be Safe
Thanks I’ve always been like that. Lol sometimes when I’m in the mood with my students alittle Jim Carey will come out. The kids love it. One kid actually asked me if I was the Grinch. 😂
VoicePlay's most recent release is Valhalla Calling Me which is from Assassins Creed. It is BY FAR their GREATEST VIDEO EVER. They just keep surpassing themselves. I don't see that you have reacted to My Mother Told Me which has the same characters. Geoff does a fair imitation of a Viking War Horn. These are VIKING themed songs and can be watched separately but Geoff's arrangement, Layne's beatboxing, Eli and his Rock God voice, Cesar adding some grit and leaning into the whole Viking theme..... Then JNone is back with them for this song and he shines and drops nearly EVERYONE's jaw with a surprise near the end.
Loving the original with S&G, I've high standards on who can cover this song. Geoff passes with flying colour! Love Geoff's arranging skills. He does just the right amount effects to what he is singing. ❤
I always appreciate the fact you watch through to the Patreons etc, some reactors stop as soon as the singing does & it urks me because often he may have a joke or something else happens. thank you for yet another great reaction
I loved this cover. It's melancholy with being depressing. Of course that could just be because I love Geoff's voice so much. He could sing the alphabet and I would be happy
Great song and great reaction! The next artist you should react to is Guilhem Desq. The two songs you should listen to first is Cicatrices (soundtrack version and the live studio version) and Cowboys From Hell. I would say Guilhem Desq is very different from the other artist you have reacted to.
I've looked to see if you have done a reaction to Geoff's cover of "FAR OVER THE MISTY MOUNTAIN COLD". I couldn't find it. If you haven't checked this song out, you simply have to. Geoff hits a G1 that is amazing. He uses chest and sub harmonics techniques . . .honestly . . .I just love the guy's voice. I enjoy your videos.
Hello Bob, I have been listening to you on UTube for a while. I know you are a fan of Geoff Castellucci. He has just done a version of the song,Man Of Constant Sorrow. I think you will love his version of it.
Certainly gone his own way with his cover - S&G giving us a heads up, Disturbed berating us, and Geoff despairing that the earlier warnings were still ignored...
He used some sort of a subwoofer with distortion. Im not a musician so i don’t know what i’m talking about. Someone else will comment a better description.
His arrangements really are something special. And not to mention that crazy range of his. He really is his own Acapella group when he wants to be.
It is so nice for him to do these covers. He really gets to show off his musical abilities and arranging skills. A master musician.
Love this cover. It's all Geoff as his own backup singers and Geoff is dropping a new song this Friday.
Awesome about thr new song. I love that he’s putting all of these out. He’s so good. Amazing!
What a great version of this great song Bob
You said it David. I love Geoff’s arrangement.
