I grew up on S&G, so the original can never be replaced, but a few chosen ones are accepted to cover it. Geoff is definitely on that short and exclusive list.
I heard the very first singing of this song by Simon and Garfunkel. He did them great honor. They would love this rendition, as I do now. No more versions for me. This is the one.
He did all the things to make this his own. We, old folks, remember when Simon & Garfunkel wrote this song. My granddaughter introduced me to Disturbeds' cover, which blew me away and made me cry. With his melt butter, creaming bass is doing it again. We don't see his clones but they are singing harmony in the background.
Lois Mcray...You had some interesting comments. Just wanted to know, did you mean creamy bass or what you said. They have two entirely different meanings. Creamy can mean smooth textured or a sort of flavor or taste. Creaming; we cannot discuss that one. Otherwise, I did enjoy your take on this video.
He actually has some of Edgar Allen Poe's works that he narrates and you can download and listen to them. I think Geoff absolutely did this justice and turned it into my go-to Sounds of Silence. Simon and Garfunkel gets a special category for making this poetry and giving it life to last at least 50 years and probably another 50 past now.
Such a beautiful cover. So melancholy and sad, but there is a light at the end of a long, dark tunnel. This song literally touches my soul and makes me cry every time I listen to it. There just are no words to properly describe how it makes me feel. I heard someone say that the original was the warning, Disturbed's cover was the anger, and Geoff's was the sadness and reflection that comes after.
Such a haunting version of this song. For me the way the backup Geoffs fade in and out and that echoing percussion really gives me the feeling that he’s remembering that ‘vision’. And like he’s singing in his mind (again that vision) as if the only part that is in the real world is only when he’s playing the piano. Thanks for coming back to him.
Great reaction!! The vocal, of course, was amazing. The instrumentation, including the Jurassic bass, the rushing winds, the crackling whatever it was added so much!
Thank you so much for another great reaction to Geoff. He does have some short stories he narrates. Go to his RUclips channel & you will find many of them..
Geoff gives me goose bumps every time!! He made it his own! I love that. What an amazing voice!! His range is incredible. But those lows!! Never cracks! Great choice! ❤
Last 2 where The Haunted Mind. The Painted Door. Both released at th same time. All of his narration are awesome. The two I just named I got to listen to on his patreon for a couple weeks before they went to RUclips. It was funny too cause when he was telling us the titles instead of saying The painted door he said the painted squirrel cause one ran by his studio window at that time.. Lol. I love being on, Voiceplay and Pattycake productions patreons. So many great rewards. My 3 favorites are live monthly chats, early video watching and behind the scenes videos. These guys are genuine and down to earth. The type you want hang out with and have fun.
My husband told me the story behind this story. Garfunkel had a friend, when both of them were in college, that became blind. This guy dropped out of college and basically became a hermit and after a while Garfunkel convinced him to go back to college. Make a long story short, Art watched as his friend struggled to get on the train, not realizing that his friend was there for him the entire time. I know that I am not telling the story nearly as well as my husband told it to me, but now after knowing the story, I am literally hearing this song in a different light than I had before.
Can we get him to narrate? He does, actually. He has several stories on his playlist, mostly ones his son likes, or ones that are special to him and his wife. Have fun... you can actually listen to a half hour or more of him reading.
I’m 70, so at one time I owned every single S & G album. I’d love to hear a cover of “Patterns.” I’ve always loved the original of “Sound of Silence” (even before the studio tinkered with it and made it a Top-40 hit), but I wobble between Disturbed’s version and Pentatonix for favorite. I need to hear Geoff’s a few more times to get used to his changes before I can rank it.

Geoff has recorded a few poems or short stories. You can find them on his channel.

Geoff did an amazing job with this. Uniquely his own, but still the song we all know and love.

This was fricken Epic, I think he has the deepest voice I’ve heard, even more than Disturbed, Pentatonix and Home Free, magnificent cover, Thanks
No matter how many times I hear this I get the warm fuzzies every single time!!! Eargasm!!!

Sometimes my heart is breaking, when songs, which took me to my younger time, are covered; in this case i have no problem with it.🌹
1st time hearing this...WOW! Deepest voice ever??? Not often you get something so raw, the talent is incredible
Thank you for the great reaction.
Great reaction, thanks.
All his his narrations are beautiful.
Awesome reaction salvo.
He does narrate, go on his channel. Since covid Geoff has been doing his own singing without Voiceplay. But still doing covers with Voiceplay.

Is he an oktavist?! Holy crap!
His voice is one of kind just like Tim Foust from home free
Heh. I don’t actually disagree, but the juxtaposition of “one of a kind” and “just like” made me chortle a bit. Proud-ish pedant here. 😉
Geoff has read several short stories and poems.
He has several narrations!

Geoff has short stories that he reads on his RUclips channel as well.

His version shines best when it's just his voice and the piano; I think I still prefer the NIN cover. He has got an amazing voice though!
I'm partial to the original, Simon and Garfunkel. No one and I mean no one tops them.
That's questionable !
@@marshayoung9387 I am referring to this song. Not music in general.

Did not like.
Losing my faith in you sir. SIMON AND GARFUNKEL. Figure it out.
Why? Because he doesn’t agree with you? Hmmmm are you an authority on how HE should feel? You are allowed your opinion as is he! Figure it out.
