Nobody tugs at your heart strings like Geoff does. He has a way of reaching deep down into your soul. He sang it as it should have been sung. He portrayed the lyrics beautifully. He actually brought tears to my eyes with this one. Geoff is a musical genius who really knows his music theory.
I read in comments somewhere that Geoff and Kathy searched far and wide before they found this piano. It really is a treasure. This is one of those songs that takes me out of body if I close my eyes and just listen. Great reaction!!
To me, it feels as if the original version was a warning to not let this happen. The Disturbed version saw it was happening and was belligerently angry about it. And Geoff is lamenting that it has happened and pleads for all to learn from it. Let's also take a moment to appreciate Eli's lighting design, with light fading in and out at just the right moments with just the right color notes. (BTW, if you are a Patreon member for Geoff, at certain levels you can hear the instrumental track for this cover as one of the monthly perks)
Such a breathtaking cover of this song. Fun Fact about the piano he is playing in this: He and Kathy (his wife) had to go on a crazy piano hunt to find a piano for his cover on Till Then. According to Geoff, there was a lot of running around trying to track one down that fit what he was looking for in a short amount of time. But he really loves how this one sounded and his Father-in-law was overjoyed to play it over the holidays. Geoff has said he prefers the sound of the upright pianos to like a baby grand. He likes baby grands okay, just likes the tone of the uprights better.
Me too. I’ve watched this vid a hundred times, I haven’t actually seen the damn thing yet. My eyes snap shut as soon as the chorus comes in. It’s so powerful it takes all of my processing ability to handle the audio & have nothing left to be able to process any visuals. And it absolutely leaves my eyes soggier than they started.
@@Gael4ce I have been battling depression ever since I lost my daughter 8 years ago so I feel for you. Depression is a terrible disease that takes hold of us & never really let's go completely. God bless you.
@@marshayoung9387 Have you heard his “Till Then”? I made a Spotify playlist that is just that song like 50 times - enough to get about an hour and a half of playtime - and I play it softly when I’m trying to fall asleep. Quiet enough that I really can’t make out the words so well … just hear notes and tone. It works 😊
I've listened to this version a few times now, and the arrangement is growing on me more and more. The discordant part is a very interesting choice, and helps make this [piece unique.
He and his wife Kathy went on a hunt for this piano with a certain sound for his cover of "Till Then". Then he took it home. Glad to see it again in this video. Love the sound of radio static, the neon light, and that piano. Gives me chills.
I've never seen any of your reviews. I loved this one. I love particularly that you love what Geoff C has done without feeling like you have to slag off anything. You just love it and you say so. That's really great and I loved watching you do it. Thank you! Also, Geoff's version of the song is a close second favourite of mine to the one done by Disturbed. His voice is a comfort in the darkest times. Thank you so much for this! I'm subscribing.
Very reflective and so well done. Much the feeling I got from Simon and Garfunkel when I'd listen to them sing this in a darkened room. I really love Geoff's take on this.
Such a somber and self reflective sounding version. It's just perfect. The original was a warning, disturbed's was the anger for not heeding that warning, this is the sadness afterwards. That's how I see it 🤗
I agree, this one has a different feeling from the versions I’ve heard of Sound of Silence before, broken is a good description. I feel like every musical element in Geoff’s version makes me hear and interpret the lyrics differently than ever before and actually feel them stronger. I love it!
Wonderful reaction. I really enjoyed your interpretation behind Geoff's cover - I think you've pretty much hit the nail on the head in terms of what he was going for.
His low tones and that haunting piano and beat just makes the song so emotional and haunting. Didn't know how I felt about it at first because it was so different than the original but after two or three listens I was hooked
This just fits in with the vocal candy stuff like Pentatonix. It's interesting to listen to but the emotion that strikes the listeners heart isn't there. Now the Disturbed version touches the heart and mind, both live and video. the video version helps you visualize the story.

Heart-rending and hauntingly beautiful

Same. Hugs, sister--together we're all stronger.
@@Gael4ce I love to hear Geoff hum. His voice is so relaxing. I would sleep so soundly just to hear him hum in my ear all night.

You can always trust Geoff to bring the emotion others fail to do.

I love your reaction to his singing. It was a joy to watch this reaction.
I like how he changed it up and. put his own interpretation on it ❤🏴
Isn’t great when an artist can take a song that as well known as Sound of Silence and make you feel something new.

I agree, great analogy.
Well said.
Oh wow. That's the absolute truth and beautifully said.
The Pentatonix version, to me, was a message of hope that we learned from the past.

It's been over a year and I think I love even more than when I heard him do it the first day.
This is a GREAT version of this classic song. Geoff always does such good work. 🙂
Wonderful reaction. I really enjoyed your interpretation behind Geoff's cover - I think you've pretty much hit the nail on the head in terms of what he was going for.
What an original interpretation of one of Paul Simon's best songs.
This was just wonderful. Thanx for reacting to it so quickly!!

This just gives you all the feels. Full stop.
Very different. Very Geoff!
❤😊❤awesome video & reaction
Awesome reaction Lowell.
Voiceplay redid their new video and released it on patreon yesterday. Don't know when it will go on RUclips yet though.
Beautiful rendition. I can’t help noticing that after Disturbed’s cover, artists seem to be covering their song instead of Simon and Garfunkel’s.
Great reaction. Geoff has said before that he (and Voiceplay as well) seldom do sheet music anymore, unfortunately.
Thank you for this
That was amazing!

I’m trying but just can’t hear this song so deeply. I love his depth just not for this song.

Well, depends on the listener 😁 I teared up the first time I heard Geoff's, which didn't even happen with Disturbed's (as much as I love that one)
@@maeco7 Good point
@@maeco7 First time? I tear up EVERY time I listen to it! Like, runny nose tearing.
Ptx is vocal candy. This is emotion for most but clearly not for you. Just look at Geoff.. If you can't see emotion then you aren't looking.
