Telfar is quickly changing the idea of what it means to be a "Luxury Brand". The queer and black owned brand has been making waves in the fashion industry. At the helm of Telfar is Telfar Clemens, a Liberian-American designer. He's a winner of the CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund and has been names CFDA Accessory designer of the year. Telfar is most known for their viral shopping bag, nicknames the Bushwick Birkin. Telfar is one of the best (if not the literal best and most interesting brand) to come out in recent times, it's just so unique and amazing to see diversity in fashion thrive the way telfar is thriving. I've been wanting to get some items for so long now and it's amazing how it actually is affordable compared to other designer bags/clothes but yet they still have such high quality items. When I got to see and hold my friends bag irl I was blown away at the quality and it just solidified how much I wanted it even more lol
Completely agree! It’s a brand that I’m interested in following, and it seems like most of the time I hear about it it’s through word of mouth which is awesome for marketing

I’m Mexican and queer, I’ve worked in retail and luxury stores, so I was around a lot of bags. But by far it’s been my favorite bag!!

@@naomi.cannibal I would say yes, they hold pretty good keep its signature shape, the price is amazining, I bought an organizer from Amazon so I just swap it to the bag of the day and it helps keep the shape even better, allows you to have more space but still stuff it as much as you want, without it being a mess. I use all sizes and love them, my favorite is the medium sized tote, I use them on a daily basis now, I’ll go back to the luxury brands but they all just feel very stale and not very versatile
They are either overpriced and will tear in a couple years from using them so much but with the Telfar bag I haven’t noticed anything type of damage on them, and I be putting them through the ringer. But I would said they are going to definitely change the bag game for sure

Honestly I don’t know anything about the brand now that I’m more informed about it and I’m so thankful that you made this video because it was so in details to the point where you look for this label/fashion house and also he seems so genuine about his decisions it isn’t forced or fake deep When he speaks about his brand you can tell the sincerity.

I'm addicted to Telfar. So far I only have 4 bags but im tempted every release to order another one. Ive made a vow to get black when they drop again and i want one for my bday in September lol. They're so versatile, affordable and are a great entry point for people who want to start buying high quality bags.
I want one sooo bad! Black is my favorite color to buy accessories and shoes in, but I know getting my hands on a black Telfar is unlikely. I’d assume it’s probably one of their most popular colors. What colors do you have??
@@naomi.cannibal girl yes I've tried to get black twice and it sold out on me both times!! You really have to be ready to add to bag the minute it releases. But so far I have a medium cream and tan. And small white and red 🥰
I’m waiting for the bag security program again. Black came out a few weeks back. It goes with anything. I want medium orange and medium navy blue.

I love telfar so much!! The symbolism behind the bag speaks volumes & it is such an awesome brand for the black community with its inclusiveness. It is also a good brand representation for the black luxury movement. I own a silver medium one & I am obsessed!!
I’m really happy for this designer’s success. For me, though, I don’t find the bags appealing. I just don’t like the design. I feel the same way about Birkins. However, I like the company’s outspoken values, inclusivity, and visionary.but I do find the Protect Black Women/People bags are super cute and more my style. Both companies are amazing.
I feel like the design grew on me. I found out about them in 2020 and wasn’t that moved but now I kinda want one…

Brandon Blackwood definitely has more of a variety of styles that I favor over the “PBW” bags. Telfar has begun to expand their bag designs, as the shopping bag was one of their first accessories outside of their clothing. The other bags are priced way higher than the “shopping bag” though. People were upset about that, but the shopping bags were designed for a specific purpose (Every luxury brand has their line of affordable signature bags, like the the Marc Jacobs tote bag that gets a redesign every few years, that serve as an introductory product for said brand).
I made another comment about giving order Black owned brands a chance with my little monies because I already have 4 Telfars, but babyyy lemme tell you I would buy the mini Telfar duffle bag if I had the extra money. It’s so freaking cute!
I'm not too big on fashion brands like that but the story of Telfar is very inspiring.

Being born and raised in Brooklyn and following some of NYC’s Black creatives and fashion conscious people, Telfar’s success makes me so proud. I purchased my first (Medium) bag in October/November 2019. It’s a really good size since I don’t like large bags. However I’m obsessed with miniature anything, so I’ve since purchased 3 mini shopping bags (jan/feb 2020, bag security program #1, and spring/summer 2021).
My bags have held up very well. I wear the first mini one the most, so it has softened, but that’s about it. I even got lysol and hand sanitizer on it once, which left an “ashy” stain that disappeared after some time. The logo on my medium bag did get scratched and dented, but that was due to negligently stuffing it into my work locker.
I would love to purchase Telfar clothing which go for higher price points than the bags, and a pair of earrings. If the bags don’t give luxury, the clothing definitely give high end streetwear. I only work a minimum wage job and try to support other Black and NY based brands, so I have yet to purchase any clothing aside from two pairs of Telfar socks (very soft and thick tube socks, knee high and mid). Some of my favs are Yaito, Tier NY, and Ice Studios (Renell Medrano).

I have one telfar(med. Baby blue) I got for myself on my birthday last year and I'm obsessed with it. I'm about to get me another on this year. I always get so many compliments everytime I use it no matter where I go.

Absolutely love your videos (got my notifications turned on)! Watching this video made me actually like Telfar more and definitely want to own one in the future. I don’t own any major luxury brands as I’m not at a place right now to particularly splurge on one. I really hope this brand continues to expand and have longevity like the white owned brands. We used to have so much black owned brands in the 90s & early 2000s then they all suddenly disappeared. I also wish our black people would stop supporting brands that show they are clearly not for us. Go where you’re loved! I pride myself in buying things that are for us rather than against us. GO TELFAR!!! P.S. I would absolutely love to get the Ugg collaboration Telfar! It’s super cute!
I started seeing this bag everywhereeee a little over a year ago and honestly I wasn’t tempted to buy one just because it was popular. What did it for me was 1. I read up on what the brand was about but reallly what did it for me was their marketing! I bought the small black Telfar x east pack as my first Telfar a few weeks ago from StockX for BELOW market price and then just this past Friday (9/23) for the online rainbow sale I bought the medium corned beef,
The medium drab and a small bubblegum pink. I can’t wait until they come! I love how they come in all different colors!

I like their stuff a lot, but most “vegan leather” is just plastic, which will shed microplastics over time. They put that sucker out in leather or something else that eventually biodegrades. I’ll buy three.

Your last point def. hit home.I hand make and design crocheted clothing and I price it where it's not crazy expensive (because with crop tops and trendy outfits, i know my demographic), but i've been told to my face that they could buy what i make cheaper at forever 21. My dream is to build my own successful black owned business, but no one is willing to support...period.
I personally own a decent amount of mid tier luxury bags, but haven’t bought any in the last couple years just because i haven’t been wearing purses as much. But I have been loving everything Telfar has been doing/putting out &wish his brand success &told myself if I were to buy a new purse, it would be one of his. I also find it ironic that with his brand becoming main stream, marc jacobs came out with their tote bag which i think is a copy of the telfar shopping bag.

This a great example of a brand taking their brand seriously and wanting to evolve into other avenues that can spread the same intentions in a positive way.

@@naomi.cannibal I love mediums for everyday wear, smalls for concerts/short outtings. The smalls are SMALL, but there’s a description for each bag on the site. I have mustard, drab (like sage green), painters tape blue, and grape. Colors release 2-3 times a week and BSP (bag security program) opens for a limited time twice a year when you can purchase any color and quantity of the shopping bags, they just take longer to come (a few months)

I have 19 bags all mediums. I love the bags. I great way to accessorize your outfit while also having the flexibility of hauling all your day to day needs. The colors are amazing. But out of the colors that I have black and the silver are the two I go back and forth with the most. I just ordered chocolate yesterday and I feel like I am definitely going to have some fun with her this winter.

i would love to support this brand but i’m not a fan of the huge logo, i find that it pulls away from the diversity of the bag itself. i’d love if the logo was smaller & in the top right hand corner. they could also experiment with a double logo all over the bag.
