Did you know the biological time a singer becomes their best is around their very late 30s to 40s! People are saying that 25 is the new 18, the 30s are the new 20s and the 60s are the new 40s and I completely agree. There’s literally no need for all the rush and the state of our world in the past few years has made the rush increasingly impossible.

I will agree based on my experience! I’m 25 now and my voice now sounds so much better than at 13 when I was working on becoming a singer! At the time my self esteem got so bad i quit even though I was told I was good! Now at 25 I sound as if I have been singing for years, I can do the runs, head voice etc without any difficulties, but I’m scared that 25 is “old” to start a music career!

Frankly, any young person that goes around using people’s age as an insult literally has nothing else going for them other than their youth. And once the vitality of youth is gone, they are in danger of becoming an empty shell of a person because so much of their identity is tied up in their age.
I am 27 and have been pursuing different hobbies for a long time, because I want to have different things that light me up inside regardless of what age I happen to be.

For me the dread of aging started when at 19 and I'm 24 now. Feeling like I haven't achieved enough at my age and feeling shame and guilt for still living with my family. Some people I went to school with have already gotten married moved into a house and even have kids. Growing up what was shown in popular media was that women can have fun and find themselves in their 20's and settle down when they're ready around their mid 30's but in the past 3-4 years i would say mostly due to young nepotism babies getting married and having kids its been glamorized to get married and have kids in your early 20's so you can be that hot young wife and mom at 24. Not to mention the recent surge in male podcasters babbling on that if a woman hasn't settled in her 30's she's past her expiration date. Life has gotten so much harder it feels like a huge boulder is on my chest and the most dreaded question I get asked is how old are you?

And also that I am childfree (the older I get the more I hate thought of motherhood so "biological clock" doesn´t bother me).

That’s what I loved about Netflix’s “Sex Education”. The main character’s mother, Jean, is well in her 50s and a silver fox but she is still treated like a sex symbol. A mature one at that. She exercises sexual agency and liberty and she can get any man she wants. All while still being an amazing mother and therapist. She is such a comfortable and empowering character and I look up to her as my second mother.
The writers don’t use her age as a hurdle for why she can’t do the things she wants. She does them anyway, matter of fact the show hardly acknowledges her age. A brilliant masterpiece that show is.

I'm telling all this to say that often I feel very stuck in a circle where is extremely difficult to see a possibility to break out of the cycle. and hearing, even briefly, about someone who was in this position and managed to get out of it is helpful. I pretty much gave up on the idea of happy relationship/family for myself and invested into my wellbeing and my career track instead. Now, I am (God willing) soon to marry the man I want to spend the rest of my life with, and whom I feel immensely blessed to be chosen by. And I still have work experience from my 20s, with skills that are very transferable! So I say, take care of what you can in your 20s, and don't worry about hitting all life goals within that decade - you'll have your 30s and beyond to accomplish the rest!

@Dolores I totally understand where you are coming from. I used to work for a very well known kids/teens jewelry company. Rhymes with bears. The 16-20+ yr old co workers I dealt with were plain rude and sometimes, ruthless. It was my first true experience of "aging-out" which looking back- it was mean, ridiculous and just meant to take blows to my self-esteem. They were mean girls. Apparently, I didn't even look mid 20's because customers were asking if I was getting ready to graduate highschool. It was when one girl asked how old I was... the next day conversations turned ageist. Then rumors. Later I found out my boss and I were the same age. So I don't really know what the big deal was?
The friend that got me the job was a few years older and she was in "key holder" position as well. I was 24 turning 25 at the time and just needed part-time because I had a full-time job already, in an already crappy job market...where they paid in peanuts. I'm an elder millennial/xennial cusp. That was before we were called "old or geriatric" (but I prefer elder if *have* to choose a gen) on the internet, which in itself is also asinine.
I got fed up and found a pt job bartending. From then on whenever they came to me asking if I would cover their shifts, that I couldn't anymore. The manager asked why? and I was already doing bartending and started another pt on top of that. They didn't look pleased, lol. Then satisfyingly, put my two-weeks resignation in.

If you take care of yourself when your younger you will age perfectly. It doesn't help that a lot of people scream in your face, "you're not getting any younger, your over 40,so you're gross; no one wants you". Shoot I'm 41 and when I tell Doppler they say, "Really?! You look in your 20's". So I'm good until men ask my age.
Also younger singers are easier to control. You can use the, "You wanna look sexy, so people will like you". The industry really prays on younger people's egos and insecurities.
I hate when older people are living their life and people say, " You're too old, to act, look, or dance that way". It's like, "Mind your business, I'm getting my whole life over here"! I agree if you can keep your parents at home. Unless there is a situation that you are not equipped for.

In fact my mom didn't even know she was pregnant with my baby sister until she was like 3 months in lol. She wasn't trying. She was 39, almost 40.
But honestly even then, now adays with all the things we have to help out bones and future older selves with health and what not, it's a little bit ludicrous to be married in your 20s and pregnant in your 30s. There's nothing wrong with waiting longer. You simply have to think and plan long term. Again, mom's in her 60s now and she got her first grandbaby 2 years ago but even at 60 my mom is a massive go-getter. I’m 29 and will turn 30 in March. Interestingly enough, I was very anxious to turn 30 in my early 20s. The older I got, the less anxious I became. What’s the point of fearing something you literally cannot do anything about? No matter how much effort we put in our skincare routine, we ALL age. We cannot do anything about it. All we can do is take care of ourselves in our 20s so we age graciously. But even then, it shouldn’t really be about beauty. I want to age well so I can still be active and have all my mobility in my 40s and 50s. Life doesn’t stop after your turn 40.
There will always be a younger and more beautiful person. And there will always be an older and wiser person. Once you accept this, you’ll feel more at peace. Just focus on being the best version of yourself. Seriously, who gives a fuck if that random guy across the street thinks you’re past your “expiry” date? That type of men are destined for meaningless relationships based on beauty and will most likely never build a real and substantial relationship.
If we keep giving in to that pressure by focusing mostly on our beauty, then we are feeding into the narrative that our worth is based on our physical appearance. We’ll feel less of that pressure once we all TRULY realize that age doesn’t define us.

I almost cried halfway through this video. Ageing terrifies me and I do feel like a lot of the media and how people treat young singers & arists definitely makes me feel worse. You made some incredibly sensible points that I have also thought of before...how so many heroes in stories, books and movies are all so young, making it seem like its the peak of our lives, I find a lot of the stuff around us odd and it contributes to this ageing phobia. I'm still trying to deal with getting older and telling myself that my life isn't over at 30. I logically know it isn't but the future feels so gray to me having accomplished not much in my life yet.

Afrikan cultures treat the elderly similar to Asian cultures. That's why you're least likely to find an Afrikan or an Asian in a retirement home. Not that there's none, It's just not common. Not sure about the belief of Asians, but we Afrikans believe that we should take care of our parents just as they took care of us. We see and treat the elderly with respect, blood related or not. 17:53 this hit hard. I'm only 20, but I'm made to feel by my peers as if my life is over for not knowing what I want to do or for changing my mind about my major and wanting to try something else/ dropping out of college. And on top of it, whenever I'm out I hear people in the 20s who have their dream job, graduated from university/college by the time they were 21 and here I am, 20 and lost. There's a lot of pressure put onto young adults to already have figured out what they wanted to do with their lives, and while some managed to do that, others that didn't are made to feel terrible.
Either way, this was a great video, and it made me feel better about my situation and realize that I still have a long time ahead of me to decide what I want to do. ♥

Most that start college at 18 graduate at 23 not 20-21 according to data. Average takes 5 years especially if the individual is working. Also college age traditional undergraduate ages range is considered 18-24 . You still under 25 and very young . Also you can start career at 25, 28 , 30. Millions of people had a B.A. at 22/23 and waited tables and did other things they wanted and starting using their degree in the 30s. People also have a career and work it for 20 ish years and start a second career in their 40s with their second or third Masters or may earn a PHd or with no degree at all. Then may retire 6O/70s or may live their work and never retire .

I went to a pricey private college, chose a lousy major, only got the associate's degree and felt like my life was over. And at twenty I chauffeured my 18 y.o. cousin to his college and felt envious of him and his peers; that they had so much potential and here I had already squandered mine, and was stuck with the crappy labor-intensive job that I had. Girrrl I restarted my Bachelor's at 23 years old (STEM major). All 15 of my classmates were fresh out of high school. Half of them were expelled/had dropped out within the span of the 1st year. Out of the remaining 7, only ONE classmate had a clear idea for his future (we became buddies on that ground). The rest were there because they were good at the subject of the major in school or because it promises high-paying job in the future. One was denied the defense of his thesis because he literally just grabbed one from the Internet. I wish all of them well, but it really gave me a good idea how well we know ourselves fresh outta school and even several years after.
For the record, I'm 30 now, with a competitive Master's and nearly 4 years of solid academic experience. Not feeling any older than my early to mid 20s, only more experienced! So take good care of yourself, your body, and best of luck with your studies. God bless :)

Im 28 soon turning 29 and this is something I've been feeling creeping up. Will I ever be self-sufficient, have kids and a husband ? Will I be complete by my mid 30s or is it going to always feel like I'm behind for my age. It's tough because I dealt with addiction and mental health issues that took about a decade of my life and now being 28 and just starting college; I am personally proud but I can't help but compare myself to the average 28 year old who already has worked a few years, had atleast one kid and is self-sufficient and independent. I try to take it easy on myself but the outside world creates this reminders that make it hard not to compare and it undermines the hard work I've put to come as far as I have. I know I still have time but to be honest I just wana have a baby before it's too late 😕 and I don't even know if I will ever love again let alone have a child so it all seems so muddy and uncertain

This is why I love struthless’s “if you feel behind in life, watch this” because it reinforces the idea the it is actually better to find success later in life when you have more experience and knowledge compared to being a “prodigy” that’s most likely naive gets manipulated and preyed on by the older ones in the industry and possibly signing away your rights and burning out young. Just know that when whatever it is you want comes, it’s the right time.
But it also sucks that I just graduated and not only me but other classmates are feeling like a failure or feeling “behind”, despite the fact we are only 17-19 and life hasn’t even started for us yet. Our brains aren’t even fully developed. But what has helped me was reminding myself and others that everyone’s path is different and you have no idea what they did or sacrificed for their success at a “young age”. Just focus on yourself, what you want out of life, and how to take it day by day and enjoy everyday because tomorrow is never guaranteed….
Love you. You are awesome. Do what you can in this amazing lifetime. Don’t pity yourself. You are capable. Goodnight ❤️

I am 24 and healing from chronic health problems that go back missed from my childhood. Society is hypocritical about youth when you have a lot of patronizing comments around youth tied to power and infantilization that is equal to objectification. I look young for my age and I am going to learn to accept that but it made my eyes open to the beliefs and attitudes about people. People like naiveness in women but don’t like to be around those with learning disabilities. People like a certain look of youthfulness because it means you’re not threatening but paired with other good qualities like intelligence then you’re considered a threat. My mom is almost 50 and I like how Although she is aging (she looks really good for age but not indentical to when she was younger, she still has the same youthful aspect to her that I love. She has things she enjoys doing and I love talking to her about it. I still get to bond over girly things but see it from her age of what she likes. The more you talk about the concern of ageing the more you realize you are robbing yourself of actually enjoying it. A lot of this is tied to trying to be anything and everything out of survival due to our ancestors. I always believed older people are not old but it’s the way they carry themselves that says a lot about certain things.

I know that's not the case at all to many people. Because it's very evident that people in their 20s and even past their 40s, people still learn and make mistakes. Idk why aging unnecessarily stresses me out, when I'm growing at my own pace lmao. I really appreciate this insightful video ❤

Britney Spears was famous in her teens and has achieved more than the average celeb. Also, her adulthood is a train wreck. Some people have successes at different times in their lives. Success isn’t measured by age. Take your time and show yourself some grace. This isn’t a race

I'm glad I decided to watch this video to the end, because even though it was kinda making me depressed, the end where you go over all the accomplishments that certain people only did when they were 40 and above was really inspiring. I often feel like it's too late for me to start a new hobby or creative idea because I'm too old, it's too late, I'll never get good enough at it. So that was really helpful, thank you.
I probably was recommended this video because I was starting to google and get freaked out over the fact that I developed a varicose vein. I know it's absolutely ridiculous but being 31, I didn't expect to get one of those so soon. I feel embarrassed about showing my legs now despite the fact that it's only a tiny spot behind my knee that has it. But it just feels so ugly and a permanent statement that I'm "old" now. I can't wear pretty clothes and pretend I'm young when people can see a freaking varicose vein. I'm embarrassed that I care so much, but I think it's more so that I just didn't expect one so soon, it's making my fear of aging worse. I always told myself that I would never get plastic surgery or botox, I just wanted to try to age gracefully, but here I am, looking up how doctors can collapse and get rid of varicose veins. I guess it's gonna be harder than I thought.

Thanks for agreeing with me! We have to fight aging/old age once and for all! We fight 60 and never ever give up for anti aging!

What a great video! Definitely agree with the obsession with youthfulness that's been portrayed in media and how its celebrated and conflated with people's achievements. Especially with Forbes 30 under 30. I get why people feel the pressure to lie simply because people are ageist, sexist etc. Youthfulness is definitely a currency

I have an older cousin who's 30 and she already feels like she's getting old. It's honestly sad to me because she's no where near old but Society made it seem that way. My other cousin is 24 and even she already says stuff like that.

I’m 27. The day of my 27th birthday I accepted the fact that I’m closer to 30 than I am to 20. I’m turning 28 in September and I’m excited to be getting closer to 30.

At twenty-two I feel my youth fleeting. I’m feel like I haven’t lived, and haven’t done enough professionally in my life. I am aware of the way I had to grow up fast, and I’m in this weird limbo, where I feel like my window of care free life has already passed me by. Like now I need to buckle done and get serious. Yet I’m not ready I feel so unprepared and inexperienced, but I can no longer excuse it with naivety.

    Another excellent video
My birthday is next month and I feel very fortunate and blessed for every yr I get blessed to see. I have always embraced aging and see it as a journey to become a more wise and better person. My goal for each decade is to become a better version of myself and to grow, I have learned how to keep up with technology and learn new skills. I've never fell into the mind frame that age hinders you. I will be 57 and I'm looking forward to many more yrs to grow and learn along the way.

I love that I'm aging gracefully. If you exercise, eat healthily, drink water, take any supplements...the aging process is astonishing. Fuck all that plastic surgery; botox crap.

Great video! You should make a video about how older women who live alone (for various reasons) are often demonized in media and real life. They are called "witches" or "crazy", and some go so far as to make up rumors that they live alone because they murdered their family.
This realization hit me when I rewatched season 3 of Stranger Things and Mrs. Driscoll was in a few episodes. I feel like the show took both sides, taking her side by believing her about the rats and then later painting her out to be crazy in multiple ways.

25 is the new 18, 30s are the new 20s and 60s are now the new 40’s - tech is advancing and people are staying younger longer. Exercise and some fasting is key and Working out 4 times a week to keep you youthful does create results. And lather that sunblock.
