One of the best tutorials I've ever come across. Thanks a lot.
Well made instructional video. No fluff, no long explanations, gets to the point and tells me 'how to'. Thanks
Thank you so much for this video! I was struggling so much to figure it out. The straightforward easy to follow steps and links are amazing!
Short, precise and relevant information, no extra insignificant bullshit. Speech speed, intonation, clarity of pronunciation; all good. Amazing delivery. Thank you.
Thanks so much - this was very clear and worked perfectly. One note - I already had Calibre and had been using the de-DRM plugin, but had updated and it didn't work anymore. So, I went back to a previous version of Calibre (4.23) , as it mentioned in the notes for the DeDrm plugin. I re-installed the plugins and it worked fine.
Thank you for your suggestion Barbara Postman, I had a same issue and got solved after following your suggestion. Much love
It appears they have closed this loophole now. Going back to Calibre 4.23, DeDRM 6.6.1, and reinstalling everything still gives me a DRM error when I try to convert kindle files to any other format.
Yes, I have had the same experience. Thanks for posting.
For Mac users: It worked for me, but I had to download the Kindle App ver. 1.23.1 (the older ver.) because the latest one in the app store won't work. I converted mine from Kindle --> epub.
Thank you for releasing this video. :)
Amazing! I am basically computer illiterate, but this video led me through the process easily, clearly and successfully. Thank you.
Muito obrigada. Depois de muita procura finalmente um tutorial que funcione. Sou brasileira e nem precisei de entender inglês pra fazer, apenas vendo o video já foi suficiente. dica usar o kindle pra pc 1.17.
Excellent work, I used this process a while back but needed a refresher. Thanks for the clear and detailed instructions!
writing this in April of 2020. Thank you so much for this video. i have been trying to get this textbook to convert to PDF for hours now and had to watch several videos and read more articles than I can count and none but this method worked for me. I followed all the instructions as they were laid out and made sure that my Kindle for PC app was downgraded to the 1.17.1 version.
Thank you SO MUCH for this video.
I was absolutely ENRAGED when I went to edit a book I'd bought recently to correct a grammatical mistake the publisher's editor had missed and found all my books on Amazon were suddenly DRM protected!
I had joked when I'd begun buying books on Amazon that I'd finally reached a financial situation where I could afford to BUY them. I didn't WANT to return to book sharing. I WANT to support my favorite authors by buying their material now that I have the money to do that. But I couldn't just buy books I couldn't edit. That would drive me mad as a hatter with each spelling error, misplaced punctuation, and information gap that I found!
Thank you for every single accidental homophone I correct in the next 24 hours.
Won, not one. Latter, not ladder. And OMG are you serious? Past, not passed!
Appreciate all the information and the links provided. Now I can read my ebooks on other device. 😊
Worked! Thank you! I used same DeDRM version as seen in video, used KFX version 1.36, and Kindle 1.17 for PC. Don't forget to hit the apply button. And I had to go on Amazon to resend books to kindle PC, otherwise they couldn't be converted. Nice explanation!
Great comment John. I used the same versions you did and as of Sep. 2021 this method still works
This doesn't seem to work anymore for Kindle books. For me it doesn't remove the DMR. I can see the title and all, but I can't convert to say epub and import my book to iBooks. I only get the message "This book is locked by DRM. ...". Any suggestions? I have the latest versions of caliber, plugins, and macOS.
After several hours of working with Calibre I was getting nowhere with my Kindle files. You saved me a ton of time and frustration. Thanks/
Worked for me. Had to download an earlier version of Kindle for PC (1.17 or earlier). Many thanks!
This was really helpful!
This is what fixed it for me, thanks bro
The same goes for Mac for anyone wondering
@@EvilJ069 Trying to download in kindle for pc 1.17 book wont download prompts to update the application
@@rishabhupadhayay2524 If you bought the ebook off Amazon itself, there should be an option to download the file itself, that's what I did anyway
Thanks, this got my files working perfectly. I appreciate the concise explanation.
OMG Ur a god. :D THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! *spent 4 hours trying to do it last night
Dude, great upload!! Now I can download my textbooks
Very well described; it worked smoothly. You can basically remove any kind of DRM -- I would assume so; since my file's DRM was not from a Kindle eBook but from another e-book source.
Worked for me perfectly and saved my butt. My wife wanted to read this e-book that she paid for so much and thanks to you she got it. 10x man.
Thank you very much!! Worked perfectly! I bought an eBook Kindle at Amazon, but I don't use it in the Epub file, just PDF. This video helped me a lot! Thanks again.
thank you! and to anyone else reading the comments by date, as of now this video and the info is still 100% perfect!
This was amazing, thank you! I just bought a Kobo (would prefer to support them rather than Amazon) and was able to download most of the books I purchased on the Kindle store onto my Kobo. It is a big shame that they make it so hard for us to transfer books WE BOUGHT to read on other devices. Unfortunately a couple still were unable to convert due to DRM but the majority worked.
I'd already done all this from another guide, but didn't realise the DRM was removed automatically upon importing the e-book into Calibre, I thought I had to do it myself
Thank you!
Thanks Everyone! I'd been trying to do this for hours unsuccessfully and couldn't figure out why.
Watched your video and read the comments and realised I had latest version of Kindle for Pc installed. I uninstalled and then installed version 1.17 and it worked first time! Don't forget to go into options and uncheck automatic updates or it will update to latest version before you use it again and then it won't work anymore!
Thank you! Version 1.17 worked for me too. 👍
Wow! Awesome! It worked!!! Thank you so much!! After a long search, I found and tested this instructions, thank you so much for the clarity and all the well explained detais!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
U'VE HELPED A GUY FROM BRAZIL!
Works seamlessly in 2022 as per the video instructions. Thanks very much!
it works ! thankyou !
I was struggling at first, but when you follow the instructions clearly you could finish the progress.
make sure you download the kindle 1.17 which is available on third-party sites. this could be dangerous, because there's people who might inject the installation app with malware and viruses, so make sure you verify the installer by confirming the hash code which is explained on the website mentioned in descriptions. if you're on windows, just download the 1.17 kindle installation file and then move that file to desktop, then run cmd, type 'sd desktop', and type the code mentioned on the website to check the hash. if the hash is correct, you could take an extra caution by scanning the installer using windows security.
after you install the kindle, install calibre. download the plugin (there's 2 plugin) which is kfx input and dedrm. install the plugin into calibre via calibre's preferences as mentioned in the video. then, restart the calibre.
login on kindle desktop app (version 1.17 that you just installed), and download the book that you purchased. when the download is completed, switch to calibre, and open books on documents>my kindle content>'your book'(with data type as 'kindle content'). then select the book and convert individually into the output that you want like for example in PDF format. the output selection is on the top right of the screen. when the process is completed, you could see your converted files by clicking 'path' on selected book on calibre. and finally you have the pdf. yeay !
Worked perfectly...Downloaded a few books from the Library, including Jeffrey Tambor's "Are You Anybody?" and Michael Nesmith's "Infinite Tuesday". The other books opened no problem but these two didn't. I followed this tutorial and, viola! Both are converted and now uploaded to my Kindle. Btw, I have an old version of Calibre (1.20), which I installed years ago. One time I took up the offer to update the program and suddenly none of the new books I brought in would deDRM. So, I uninstalled the newer version of Calibre and reinstalled the old one and it has worked fine ever since. Up until just the last month, that is, when sporadic uploads wouldn't convert. I think this new plugin will fix all that, it appears. Great tutorial.
Thank you! It worked also for DRM - removal of DRM encrypted pdf (Adobe Digital Edition).
It DID work and I'm so happy! [:
Thank you very much
Thank you very much, the tutorial helped alot, I spend the last few hours by figuring this out myself but I wish I had come across this video earlier, could have save me alot of time. Where the video helped me was in the last step and changing the versions of Kindle on the mac. I have to add that I was on the latest Kindle for mac 1.25(x) version and had to remove it. I downloaded Kindle 1.17 and this method worked like a charm. The folders for these different versions of kindle on the mac are at different locations. (1.25 is in the library/containers folder and 1.17 is in the ApplicationSupport/Kindle folder). Thank you once again for helping us with this.
Very helpful comment Thank You!
And Your Comment Here saved me a lot of time ... Thanks for the valuable comment. I also did the same as written here ... worked like a charm :)
this software works like a charm -- very straightforward -- extremely useful
Worked for me using Kindle for PC 1.17, good tutorial.
omg I've had so much trouble with this, I gave up, then I found this video and tried again. It worked. Thanks!
how did you do it?
mine isn't working
@@federicosantacroce3628 Works with version 1.17 of Kindle for PC.
I've tried to convert it. Ive added all the plugins but when in try to convert to epub it tells me its locked???
This is the first tutorial that went through. Thanks a lot!!!! Best..
Works perfectly, thank you. All those who's didn't work, don't panic.
1. uninstall the latest version of kindle
2. install the 1.17 version of the kindle and turn off the auto update.
3. follow the exact procedure and it will surely work.
One important aspect that needs to be followed.. since this video was released, Amazon has released newer versions of the Kindle app which includes newer forms of DRM for their .azw files. You'll need to download an older version of Kindle so it uses the older version of DRM for this calibre method to work. Uninstall all newer Kindle programs before installing this one:
KindleForPC-installer-1.24.51068 (google it)
I can also confirm that DeDRM Tools 6.8.0 works for me as of Aug 26th 2020.
Many thx. You solved my issue!
Your comment should be pinned by the video uploader to the top. I installed the Kindle version you referred to, and I went for Calibre 64bit 4.22. It was then that the method for decryption worked.
When I downloaded this version of kindle it said it was incompatable with my Mac OS (Catalina) Any ideas?
@@sukitea9197
i saw this while browsing some forums. perhaps its just some compatibility issue for now and may be updated in the future.
"Older Kindle for PC/Mac version 1.17 can be installed to work around this problem for most users. (Note: This is a 32-bit program and so it is not compatible with MacOS Catalina.)"
was able to get calibre recognize the metadata but if i try to convert it it gives a message that the file is protected by drm. duh, why do you think i want to convert it? what am i doing wrong here?
I used it on a simple pdf document, and it worked fabulously!
It works! You are a genius man! Thank you!
We had to "register" our Kindle with the DeDRM plugin (go to Preferences:Plugins:File type plugins, and double click the DeDRM plugin) , then choose the top button for our Kindle, and insert the serial number. After that, it converted without issue. I think this step is required, otherwise the plugin would not know how to decrypt the DRM code (but someone else smarter than me can comment on that). Good luck!
THANKS A LOT!!
we've got a winning tip....but you must have a kindle serial number for it to work
That is exactly what I had to do to make it work Thanks
Thank you so much! Worked like a charm, but I do advise people to read the comments section, lots of useful info here.
Thank you Studio 8 Tutorials. Worked for me on Windows10 Pro version 1803, OS build 17134.706. Kindle 1.17
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH saved my life man it took me 3 h but finally made it keep up with this Content TOP THANK'S A LOT !!!
I followed your instructions and it worked for my book...but when i try to export it to a PDF format I get an error and part of the error indicates "DRMError: This book has DRM!" Not sure what to do from here.
Yep the older vesion of the kindle app did the trick. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much! Its been 3 years since you've uploaded this and its seem useful and relevant! Thank you for being so detailed! Not all superheroes wear capes and you're certainly one of them.
Yeah!!!!!! Fiiiinally worked for me. This is awesome THANKS GUYS.
Thanks Bro..This episode relly helped me out. Thanks again.
Thank you! This really worked for me. I did, however, have the same DRM issue with 1.25 version. I followed all the comments here mentioning to install 1.17 version and was happy that it solved the problem. Thank you everyone :)
Happy New Years! I just found this video. I am curious, do you need to download the Kindle app for PC/Mac in order to do this? I have seen other recent videos suggesting this. I just want something simple where I dont mess up my computer. Thank you.
how do i drag the full file kindle ebook to desktop? i dragged the kindle book to desktop but i only got a text file. im using a mac btw. im trying to convert a kindle rental ebook
It worked! Awesome! Thanks, dude!
Worked for me (13-08-2019) - Mac High Sierra.
Kindle 1.23.1.
I'll explain my problem, maybe it'll help someone.
Bought a Kindle Book on Amazon, but didn't realize it was a version "Kindle for PC/Mac" only.
--> Thus I couldn't read it on my Kindle.
1) Install older version of Kindle for Mac (1.23.1)
2) Follow the instruction from this video
3) Do not convert your file in MOBI in this case (Because the conversion will be bad and difficult to read on you Kindle)
4) Convert into PDF instead.
5) Enjoy.
Hi, I have the DeDRM and KFX plugin in caliber, but I still get a DRM error during the converstion, not sure whats wrong
Many thanks, this is kind of a headache every time, really helped me.
Thanks for sharing this video. It works fine with kindle version 1.17 or older
Thanks this was very useful I got a book on the kindle format but I have a Kobo ereader I thought I would lose the money I spent but thanks to this video I can read it on my kobo aura.
Thank you for the video and plugin!
thanks man. its difficult finding a good tutorial that doesnt go off on tangents all the time.
but this one is good. it really helped. i have everything set up now and once i buy my first ereader i can
read kindle books on it. if i remember (i have really bad memory) to do it i will report back and let people know if this method still works (since it is a slightly older video)
Worked like a champ. Well done.
On the KFX link it says, "Import cannot currently be performed on KFX books downloaded using Kindle for PC/Mac version 1.25 or greater due to new DRM." Does that mean any kindle books we buy right now (jan 2020 and forward) will not be able to be used in this process? thanks!
Thank you man for sharing this, you are awesome.
Works perfectly with ACSM files, thanks ! :)
Thanks a lot, bro. It worked 100% !!!
Worked right away! Thank you!
Great video. Thanks. It worked for me.
I downloaded a book from Calgary Public Library, however due to not having overdrive option available in my region I couldn't directly transfer/read it on kobo clara. I did exactly what was suggested in the video and its working now. I have the book on my Kobo Clara.
So its importing ok, but when I try and convert to PDF I am getting a Cannot Convert Message saying the book is locked by DRM- I am running Calibre on Mac
Same...I had 0 luck. :( Lost all the books I purchased on my Nook reader.
same problem here
same here
Bestest tutorial ever made my day ...
Works like a charm. Thank you!!!
It works for me,El Capitan,Kindle 4. After installing I also had a warning DRM.I deleted a book, restarted Calibre and it is good!
excellent video! You are a true champion!
Hi, i've followed all steps to install the DeDRM & KFX Input plugins on Caliber but..., when I try to convert books from KFX to AZW, Epub or other formats, it doesn't works. A window opens where u can read "Convertion not posible, this book is DRM protected". What could be the problem ? I am using Caliber 3.37 (64 Bit) on Windows 7 platform. Do u know what the problem is ???
Thanks, Man it really worked.
Thank you! This was such a lifesaver!
When adding the DeDRM plugin to Calibre I get a msg saying that it's an invalid plugin. DRM_tools_6.6.1.zip doesn't have a top level _init_.py file. Tried this with the latest version (7.1.0) and 6.6.1 as used in the video. How can one get around this?
Ran into this earlier. If you look at the zip you got, see if it contains another (or two) zip files inside the top level one you downloaded. If it does, that's why you can't add the plugin correctly. Need to unzip the downloaded zip file and then inside that you'll see the actual zip file Calibre is looking for along with some instruction text files. Select the zip inside the folder you unzipped and you should be good to go.
THANK YOU
You are the best solver :') thank u so much for your tutorial. It's so helping me
Excellent info! Thank you.
Thank you so much. It wasn't working originally for me either, but it was because another plug in was interfering with it.
you are the man. Thanks a lot. I tried before but apparently i need the last plugging you share. Thnk you!! April 2020.
Thanks so much!!!! The best free and best version than the one that pay version
Actually, I spoke too soon - it looks like the older version of Calibre with the plugin did not work either. Is there some other option - thanks.
you need to downloaded the Calibre version 3.29.0 and the 6.6.1 DeDRM_plugin
thanks!!! One of the best tutorials
thank you very much! It worked for me.
Hi there! Thank you for the clear steps. I have followed closely but the format still appears as AZW3 after adding books. Can't seem to convert. Help please? Thank you!
How to export highlights from kobo/kindle to my laptop so I can read them later or even print them out?
Great. Worked well. Thank you.
thank you so much, its really worked for me
CAn you do one for Catalina? Catalina doesn't save Kindle files at AZW anymore. the file extensions are several different ones.
HOw can i get de azw3 file? It's not coming when i transfer the folder from kindle to my PC.
Fantastic video, worked like a bomb, many thanks
the dedrm plugin shows syntax eror when i try to load it in callibre. what should I do?
Same here...
Perfect 👍🏻 Thx’s for the tip 😍
I want to migrate my kindle library to a nook or kobo and as of yet have not removed any DRMs. Thing is, my kindle has been missing a few years ago and i've given up on finding it. The only way i have of accessing my content is thru the kindle app on my iPad mini. After reading around DRM removal a bit, i'm beginning to suspect this is a lost cause. Is this the case?
Thanks for the video.. I am still having some issues with the KXF-Zip Files saying they are locked with DRM and cannot be converted. Any Ideas
