I'm curious, wouldn't he be better off with bottom and front intake, amd the rear amd top exhaust.... it makes no sense to me to have a intake be the radiator as that sucks the heat INTO the case.... wouldn't a radiator always be better as exhaust?
I have the same case, also put the LL120s in it and now I want to update to the QL120s, this video helped me make the decision since I could see exactly what it will look like, though I went for white instead of black.
I like the QLs a lot. You can see the setup process here - ruclips.net/video/kCC0hrqPiFI/видео.html which you might find useful. I wouldn't say it was easier. Depends very much on how many fans you have and such.
You gotta chill vibe yet I can still hear the enthusiast inside of ya throwin' a party 'cause of how f*ck sick your builds turned out. Pro-level content. Insta-Subbed.
Thanks for the video but just can't stop thinking of top fans for intake? Hot air rises so having the top fans for exhaust would get rid of the hot air much faster than pushing it down?
Hot air rises, but that rising force is actually very very weak. When you have fans moving the air around, hot air naturally rising is irrelevant. That rising current is totally overpowered by even a gentle breeze from a fan. Exhaust up or down.... the difference is so marginal....just have the fans however makes sense for your case. Hot air rising is only really relevant in an open space of free air. Edit.... Also having a radiator as intake/exhaust also makes a very marginal difference. Maybe 2 degrees to cpu/case. It's fine as an intake as long you you have a well ventilated case. The gpu produces waaaaaayyy more heat then a radiator. If you put your hand in the air comming off the radiator it barely feels warm. Then do the same around the gpu. So yes the rad could heat the case... but only if there is no exhaust/fresh air in the case. The warmer radiator air will just be exhausted straight out the case with very little impact at all
I just bought that case and I’m stuck on what fans should I get I really like the white ll120 but the ql120 look awesome hopefully they come out with white ql”s
So, as I see it on a 680x with horizontal 3080, you could set up the QLs as intake on the bottom to cool the gpu, a 280 Capellix on the top, as intake and the rear as exhaust which would hopefully give good cooling for both a 5900 and the 3080. I could also save on central heating costs. Any thoughts? I do enjoy your videos. At my age it is a joy to sidestep the baseball caps, tattoos and bumfluff. Well done and thank you.
The new QL series are nice, but I think they took a step back in the design. The LL series look way better. Newer doesn't always mean better. Anyone else prefer the LL series?
Wouldnt it of been better to intake at the bottom and exhaust out the top with the final config you showed at 5:05 with the QL fans because heat rises? So all the heat is rising and those top fans are blowing that hot air back into the case? I could be wrong and im sure there is alot of different opinions on this but am curious why you did it the way you did is all. Im totally new to PC building so I am trying to learn. Thanks for the video!
5:20 u got problem with DDR lighting its buggy (left side is flickering) got the same problem sometimes. its because of the voltage in most of the cases.
Awesome video, just have a few questions. On the LL fans, is the lighting on the intake side or the exhaust side? Also does it make sense to use LL on the top of my case and QL on the front since my top doesn't have any glass (making the QL kinda pointless on the top)? Is it possible to change just the fan of a cpu water cooler e.g. swapping out the corsair hydro 100x fans for rgb fans? And finally can you adjust the lighting of the fans without a node e.g. just using the iCue or motherboard software?
QL120 fans it is for me. Decided by your vid. Really, very helpful and appreaciated thank you!! I'm going to install these QL120 fans in an Corsair Obsidian 1000D case which should arrive in the next week. I've been looking for an Am4 socket motherboard for the AMD Ryzen 9 5950 with 8 ram slots. Apologies if off subject, though may I ask what mainboard / CPU you are running?

Depends on how you plan to do it. Corsair states that you can't mix these on 1 controller, each controller must have only 1 fan type connected. I don't know, if the new controller Node Core supports the old LL fans but the old node Pro does not support QL fans.
I thought the same, you don't want INTAKE coming through a radiator in my line of thinking, you'd want that warmed up air to be exhaust.... I have never understood front mounted radiators that are intake... if the radiator isn't significantly warming up the air that goes through it, then it just seems like it isn't actually working as a heat sink... I think I am going to stay away from water cooling entirely for now, and stick with front/bottom intake, top/rear exhaust, and an Arctic Freezer eSports dual fan air cooler for the CPU, maybe put RGB fans on the cooler eventually.... but IF I were to do an AIO cooler, I would think top mounting the radiator as exhaust would be the ticket, and in a case like Corsair 5000 where you can have push amd pull fans exhausting through the radiator.... His fan setup is one of the only ones I have seen like this, but I have seen others with front mount radiators that are intake, amd that just seems like blowing the heat right back into the case....makes me wonder if the radiator actually does its job, or ....? Thoughts?
@@isaiahfurrow7414 @Isaiah Furrow Yeah it does seem odd sending that heat right back into the case. Technically an air cooler is doing the same thing if you think about it. As long as we efficiently remove heat from the chip(s) and somehow eventually get that heat out of the case, apparently it's probably fine. Also, if a radiator has intake air flowing over it, maybe this can be viewed as a good thing as the chip's cooling system will receive cooler air that wasn't already circulating in the case.
Nice review. Good info. Just very suspect on the fan setup (witch I know has no bearing on the actual review, witch I thought was good). You would do better to reverse your intake and exhaust fans.
In a perfect world, three triple packs, three lighting node pros, two commander pros and enough USB headers on your motherboard to cope. Though you can do it with system fan headers on your motherboard too. (So just one commander pro)
@@TheProvokedPrawn Oh holy that sounds like spanish to me, im pretty new to this stuff but thank you so much! I will tryna figure out how to do this then with your answer :D
Thanks for the video, I really like the look of the QL fans and think we will get these instead of the LL fans, at least for some of them... BUT, I am trying to understand one part of your setup... would you not want to exhaust at the rear and top, and intake at the front ? I just can't wrap my head around having intake air sucked through a radiator, as that would be pulling in warmed air instead of expelling that heat... I would think that you want fresh intake air, amd the air through the radiators to be exhaust .... or am I just not understanding how this is set up and looking at the fans wrong in your setup?
@@isaiahfurrow7414 I made the two ways here... radiator OUT made better idle temps, but gaming temps are higher 5oC (the GPU starts and it all go super hot). Radiator in, made idle a little higher yet gaming lower, maybe bc the airflow helps the gpu heat out yet still testing, and without all properly set (wainting for the gpu riser cable so I can manage it )
Can I use an LL140 as the fan on a CPU heatsink? No fancy watercooling here. Was just wondering if it would work. It would be in tandem with 2 other LL140s working as case fans, or will I run into difficulty by not having an independent fan that can be regulated on its own? I've got Noctuas lying about but this would be solely from a looks POV!
If you don't mindd me asking, you noted that for the sake of utilizing the RGB, your LL top fans were mounted in exhaust when you wanted them mounted for intake. I see that most people would mount their front fans for intake and the rear and top would be exhaust. Why do you prefer your top fans for intake over exhaust?
Because I like doing things wrong. Plus the radiator was there and pulling warm air over it makes no sense for cooling but then hot air rises, so 🤷♂️🤔🙄
Biggest let down for me is ique. On a 9900k which is now a $900 CPU. I often catch ique pulling up to 5% cpu usage. It always prevents shutdown with errors, and often doesn’t find my h100i platinum the OSD doesn’t work and it’s just the most clunky, resource heavy program for something that should be tidy and sleek...
Very nice setup, sincerely! I've choosen 6x ML120 (to limit fans noises) but they've only 4 RGB LEDs each, unfortunately. Thumb up, new suscriber. Thanks for this excellent review.
I really don’t understand why they don’t make a 280mm white AIO. I have the black one and I replaced the fans with white and I’m ordering sleeves for the cables

@@TheProvokedPrawn you welcome :P I saw that the Corsair sleeved cables only come with a few grommets. Are the spare ones Corsair brand and where can I get some extra ones?
I have an msi motherboard with jcorsair header to control the rgb hub of my LL fans. So I dont have to use the LL microcontroller and the corsair software. Do the QL fans work with the old rgb hub of the LL fans or do I have to use the iCue software to light them up? I might just want to add one or two QL fans to my LL fans.
Not sure if you sold your LL120 fans on eBay recently, but I recently bought some and immediately recognised the silver writing on the connectors in this video!
It really depends on the setup of the case and your personal opinion. For example, my case has three intake fans and I also exhaust the bottom. Yes, hot air rises, but there's no way to mount that radiator on my case unless to do what you're suggesting without mounting the rad on the bottom, which I didn't want. I've just switched to a new case, where I've got push/pull on the rad and exhaust on the top. I've actually mounted both intake and exhaust on this style of rad in the past and had no issues either way. Sorry If I seemed snappy, get fed up with people saying the same things sometimes. :)
Do you know anything about the new Corsair iCUE H115i RGB PRO XT. They say it uses the same ML fans as predecessor just without the rgb's. Isn't it meant to be an upgrade. If so do you know what has changed ?
Legitimate question… Don’t you want your top fans and back fans to be exhausted? And your front and bottom fans be intake? Since heat rises, wouldn’t you want the cold air coming from the bottom and exhausting to the top?
@@TheProvokedPrawn I'm using the h100i rgb platinum se right now. Planning to get the ql140 and 1 ql120 as case fans. Correct me if I'm wrong but the 2-pack ql140 already includes the new node pro, right?
so the only difference is that the QLs have RGB lighting at the back as opposed to only at the front like the LLs and they perform worse than the LLs (and are more expensive) in terms of performance and noise levels
Imagine replacing White LL120 Fans with QL120 Fans and not noticing that the White LL Fans actually spun faster and had 20 CFM more with only a marginal sound increase. RIP the airflow in your PC.
@@cherry7838 the white LL120 moves 63cfm with 3.0mmH2O static pressure while the QL120 moves 41.8cfm with 1.5mmH2O static pressure. So the LL is much better
Not QL120 specific. But going from having my top mounted AIO CPU cooler with fans set to exhaust and changing them to inlet, I saw CPU and radiator liquid temps drop by 5C. However, my GPU temp went up by 6C and my RAM up by 3C.
i'll wait till they go on sale, it was a fairly fun review, or just stick with the LL as they are vastly cheaper. If they do the 140s/120s with the magnetic bearings all the way up to 2.3k rpms, then I'll invest I think.
Shame that no one makes either a push or pull fan , that you don't have to "flip " over .. , Or just a fan and ring that just "pushes" onto the center bearing which ever config you require

Am I right when I see the description in the pinned comment is incorrect? On all seller websites it states that the QL's RPM is a max of 1500 which is correct however the LL's is a max of 2200
The LED hotspots are horrible on the ql's, and I returned mines because of it.Instead, the the Thermaltake quads have much more lighting, and diffuse the lighting with more LED's.Thermaltake's software is garbage however.
You don't "need" a Commander Pro. It's just a fan controller to power them and control them from iCue. You could just plug them into your motherboard. But it depends how many fans you have and how many headers you have on your motherboard. It's a lot easier if you do have one.
What is the case you are using in this video? Secondly for the Lighting node pro does it come with an adheavsive strip or is it heavy enough to sit somewhere inside the case?
will the QL120's fit the same as LL120's as from the side they look thicker due to the protruding light loop? please let me know? my LL120's have finally given up LED wise and messing up, so need replacing so was maybe gonna get the QL120's instead, but need to know if they will fit in the case or not?
Hi ! can i ask if the new Lighting Node is connected to the commander pro? i would be doing a 9 fan setup so i guess i need to use 2 new lighting node and 1 commander pro? my case is not corsair :( .
Looking at the 5000X (like my other post) Totally torn between the LL and QL's for it. Was thinking, 3 at the front, 3 exhaust with my 360 AIO at the top and one at the rear (i Know you didn't bother with the rear as you done push pull at the top. I'm more likely able to get a hold of LL fans, since the QLs are like gold dust. How are the colours in comparison, are the QLs any better than the LLs or are the QLs just the LLs but with lights at the back? Reason is that I might want to do a mix of LL and QLs. QL's at the front so the light comes back on to the motherboard and then the LLs at the top with the AIO as I don't need both sides lit up for the radiator. This make sense?
What happens if you hook the old RGB fans up to one of those new RGB controllers do you gain any more customization control at all? my case came with the lighting hub and 3 of the older ones but when I bought a 4th exhaust fan its a new QL or whatever (I didn't even know there was a difference) and I just hooked it up to the same lighting hub to match the other ones.
Newb question 2 - You mentioned the QL function differently to previous fans such as ML/LL......because the new QL come with the lighting hub? though looking online, the ML120 and LL120 triple packs both come with this lighting hub now too... Does that mean they all work the same....?
The QL 3pack comes with a Lighting Node Core, the LL's for instance with the older Lighting Node Pro. Difference is that with the QL fans you need to address much more LED's so you need the new 'Core' version, but in how they work it's basically all the same (just switched from LL's to QL's a week ago).
Nice I think im gonna swap mine too, I like that with the QL's you can have them set to intake or exhaust and not have to worry about seeing the rim lighting despite your config.

Thanks for the nice comment. Appreciate it. And the sub too!
Thanks for the video but just can't stop thinking of top fans for intake?
Hot air rises so having the top fans for exhaust would get rid of the hot air much faster than pushing it down?
Whatever makes you happy.
I thought the same, and also not having the warmed air coming IN through the radiator.... I would think a radiator should ALWAYS be exhaust....
The warmer radiator air will just be exhausted straight out the case with very little impact at all
I just bought that case and I’m stuck on what fans should I get I really like the white ll120 but the ql120 look awesome hopefully they come out with white ql”s
there are now some in sale
yeah if its not too late, there are white ql fans available
Just buy these and set to solid white.
late reply but hope you got the white fans. I just did an all white build for my daughter with the white QL's and they look amazing.
Why can't we unlpug these once they are plugged into the node?
Wouldnt it of been better to intake at the bottom and exhaust out the top with the final config you showed at 5:05 with the QL fans because heat rises? So all the heat is rising and those top fans are blowing that hot air back into the case? I could be wrong and im sure there is alot of different opinions on this but am curious why you did it the way you did is all. Im totally new to PC building so I am trying to learn. Thanks for the video!
Yes yes yes yes yes
5:20 u got problem with DDR lighting its buggy (left side is flickering) got the same problem sometimes. its because of the voltage in most of the cases.
does QL mean Quad LED and LL mean Large LED?, I'm trying to figure out what the letters stand for
No idea I'm afraid.
QL is quad loop... I think. LL is light loop.
CENTER311 okay and thanks
I just orderd nine of these QL ones. Only in the front I don't think I can manage to get these in because it's a very huge case
Intake. Sure. See here ruclips.net/video/-vjewiYfNsQ/видео.html and no. You need the nodes.
Case I’m getting comes with LL. If I purchased a few QL to add to the pc would they be able to match or would they look different.
Why intake on the top? I never understand that. Heat goes up, why not have the top ones as exhaust?
QL120 fans it is for me. Decided by your vid. Really, very helpful and appreaciated thank you!!
I'm going to install these QL120 fans in an Corsair Obsidian 1000D case which should arrive in the next week.

Can you mix the ll120s and the ql120s or would this look out of place?
Depends. If you set it to the same color not that much but the outshell is different so it will stick out
Depends on how you plan to do it. Corsair states that you can't mix these on 1 controller, each controller must have only 1 fan type connected. I don't know, if the new controller Node Core supports the old LL fans but the old node Pro does not support QL fans.
im waiting on my QLs to come in ill let you know
Yes you can, I have 6 ll120s for my case. 2 of the push air through radiator, I bought 2 Ql 120s to pull air and look good from the rear. Perfect mix
@@judgement069 Thanksfor the info, I just bought 3 ql120 to pull air into my rad and was wondering if they would look good with my 2 ll140.
Wouldn't it normally make more sense to have the top fans acting as exhaust?? 1:18
Thoughts?
It honestly makes very little difference. As long as you have a well ventilated case with plenty of airflow and exhaust
This is my new setup if it helps put you at ease. ruclips.net/video/6Oexkk3Ls5M/видео.html

Hi i have a question. If i want to setup 9 of the QL120 Fans what do i need? 3 times the 3 Fans Set and a Commander Pro?
Thanks for help!
In a perfect world, three triple packs, three lighting node pros, two commander pros and enough USB headers on your motherboard to cope. Though you can do it with system fan headers on your motherboard too. (So just one commander pro)

So can you light the fan blades a different color than the outer ring?
Thanks for the video, I really like the look of the QL fans and think we will get these instead of the LL fans, at least for some of them... BUT, I am trying to understand one part of your setup... would you not want to exhaust at the rear and top, and intake at the front ? I just can't wrap my head around having intake air sucked through a radiator, as that would be pulling in warmed air instead of expelling that heat... I would think that you want fresh intake air, amd the air through the radiators to be exhaust .... or am I just not understanding how this is set up and looking at the fans wrong in your setup?
You can do that if you want 😃
@@TheProvokedPrawn , watched again and still not 100% sure I am seeing it right.... is the air going IN through your radiator, or OUT?
@@isaiahfurrow7414 I made the two ways here... radiator OUT made better idle temps, but gaming temps are higher 5oC (the GPU starts and it all go super hot). Radiator in, made idle a little higher yet gaming lower, maybe bc the airflow helps the gpu heat out

JB H it’s should I know I am late but I hope this helps
Thank you for reviewing May i please ask which fan is more quiet ? QL or LL ? Thank you and looking forward to your reply.

why the top fans should be intake? so the bring take the heat from the radiator inside the case ? I believe you were talking about the front fans
They don't have to be. I'm just mad.
@@TheProvokedPrawn 😀
If you don't mindd me asking, you noted that for the sake of utilizing the RGB, your LL top fans were mounted in exhaust when you wanted them mounted for intake. I see that most people would mount their front fans for intake and the rear and top would be exhaust. Why do you prefer your top fans for intake over exhaust?
Because I like doing things wrong. Plus the radiator was there and pulling warm air over it makes no sense for cooling but then hot air rises, so 🤷♂️🤔🙄

I really appreciate the video. I have 6 QL120s plugged into a commander core instead of the node included. Is that why the QLs are super dim?
Biggest let down for me is ique. On a 9900k which is now a $900 CPU. I often catch ique pulling up to 5% cpu usage. It always prevents shutdown with errors, and often doesn’t find my h100i platinum the OSD doesn’t work and it’s just the most clunky, resource heavy program for something that should be tidy and sleek...
Very nice setup, sincerely! I've choosen 6x ML120 (to limit fans noises) but they've only 4 RGB LEDs each, unfortunately. Thumb up, new suscriber. Thanks for this excellent review.

Looks like LL series has better airflow than QL
I have an msi motherboard with jcorsair header to control the rgb hub of my LL fans. So I dont have to use the LL microcontroller and the corsair software. Do the QL fans work with the old rgb hub of the LL fans or do I have to use the iCue software to light them up? I might just want to add one or two QL fans to my LL fans.
neme I think it would work with the hub. You explaining was not that clear
Not sure if you sold your LL120 fans on eBay recently, but I recently bought some and immediately recognised the silver writing on the connectors in this video!
Nope they're all in the boxes still. Saving them for another build in future maybe.
Why should top fans be intake. I thought they should be exhaust due to heat rising ?
Corsair recommends intake to cool the rad. The internet tells me I'm wrong whatever I do. You do you.
@@TheProvokedPrawn I'm not saying your wrong man. Was a genuine question as I'm about to build a pc.
@@TheProvokedPrawn Thanks for the answer man and it's all good 😁

It's not two GPUs. One is an NVMe expander card.
@@TheProvokedPrawn oh ok thanks.
Legitimate question… Don’t you want your top fans and back fans to be exhausted? And your front and bottom fans be intake? Since heat rises, wouldn’t you want the cold air coming from the bottom and exhausting to the top?
Sure
@@TheProvokedPrawn I meant that as a legitimate question. It wasn’t to be an ass
Can you combine an LL with QL in the lightning node?
Possibly, but you'd need the newer node pro

can you dim the brightness of each fan?
yes
so the only difference is that the QLs have RGB lighting at the back as opposed to only at the front like the LLs and they perform worse than the LLs (and are more expensive) in terms of performance and noise levels
Is the main difference backside of the fan? but does the frontside look same ?
Imagine replacing White LL120 Fans with QL120 Fans and not noticing that the White LL Fans actually spun faster and had 20 CFM more with only a marginal sound increase.

Did you notice a rise in temperature for your cpu aio when you changed to qls or is it the same?
I have not noticed a rise no.

The rgb animations on the QL fans arent as smooth as on the LL ones. QL animations look like 60hz and LL animations like 120hz to compare
Looking at the 5000X (like my other post)
Totally torn between the LL and QL's for it.
Have you ever made a video before in the past on how to setup how your fans for either exhaust or intake? I would appreciate some insight, thanks
ERM not specifically but i did do this in-depth video on a case which might help ruclips.net/video/6Oexkk3Ls5M/видео.html
Do the QL work with the normal lighting node pro and vice versa with the LL and the lighting node core?
No because the update node is designed to handle the larger number of lights in the QL fans.
Can i run my LL with the QL just connect them to there own led nobe pro LL and the QL to the new hub it comes with???
Don't see why that wouldn't work.
Great video I feel like the QL is a better idea to get cause you can flip them and the still look amazing
Yeah I agree
Is the commander pro needed or could you have just used two cores and pwm splitters directly to motherboard?
You could do the second one for sure.
