    From someone who is interested in this lifestyle but currently has no RV experience, these types of videos are extremely helpful to understand how things work. So many little tidbits of information that RVers take for granted that I would not have thought of...
    Thanks Cass for posting another good video.
    (Unsolicited idea for a future video...show the simple act of getting gas...how to position the rig, where to go, navigating through small gas stations,etc. This makes me nervous thinking about doing this for the first time)

      @TailsofWanderlust  3 года назад +1

      Great video idea Drew! That's one of those items I think about every time I drive into a gas station, but never thought of filming. It's also a lot easier for a small RV like myself to navigate than a larger rig.

    Really enjoying catching up on your videos after finding your site a few days ago. Great info for everyone with a trailer. You are direct and straight forward with information which makes your content easy and rewarding to follow. I have a small hard sided pop up trailer and go through the same routine but do use a checklist as I've found even after years of doing this once in awhile I forget to do something. One thing I would recommend is a lock for your trailer hitch. I've talked to too many campers who have had their trailer hitch removed while at a trail head, or just out and about, leaving them unable to hook their trailer back up. It's unfortunate but it does happen.

    I would highly recommend replacing that red curly line for the electric brakes. The idea is for the cable to pull the key out to activate the brakes. If its to long, the brakes never apply and then when you hit the brakes, you get rear-ended by your own trailer.
    Make the cable a inch or two, shorter than the chains.
    Stay safe🙂👍

    • @TailsofWanderlust
      @TailsofWanderlust  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the info! The 7-way does hook up the electric brakes as well as electrical to the 4Runner, so it does have separate trailer brakes.

    I just bought a small travel trailer and plan to take it out on short trips near home for the first few times. I have owned travel trailers before (stationary) so I understand all of that but towing is very new for me. My plan is to get comfortable with towing and then head out full time. I have watched this video several times to drill it into my head. I have fear of the unknown so I'm very happy there are people out there like you to relieve my anxiety a little. Thank you!

    I am late commenting, but this was excellent! I have solo rvd in a 33 foot motorhome, towing my Jeep Wrangler (4 down) for almost 16 years ... some full time, some shorter from overnight to 7 months ... 44K miles over those 16 years. Even with all that, I have a "pre-roll checklist" on my visor. I review it before I roll - ALWAYS! I have a set order and routine, but safety for me (pets) and others on the road is so important. Enough about me ... this video was very helpful as I am considering changing to truck/SUV and trailer ... looking at Basecamp and ??? I have wondered about the hookup process and this answered so many questions. Thank you for taking the time for a detailed video with great camera shots. AND ... love Jasper and Napoleon :)

But what do you think about the crappy tongue weight of the trailhawk jgc? It's only 350. That's why you need to pay more for special hitches, wd and antisway, I think.

    I glad you're not using a drill bit, that's hex nut. You make holes with drill bits. Now I'm leaning more to the Basecamp more than the Casita or the scamp. Thank you

      @@TailsofWanderlust she is indeed! She replaced the pump and motor in her hot tub, fixed the solenoid and sending unit, replaced switches and lights in her house, replaced toilet and installed new bidet, and more fix-it house stuff. Drives a 96 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 5 speed manual, and so on. Hiking, biking, tennis, skiing, canoeing, wine tasting, we do all kinds of adventures. Great cook, too! She’s awesome. While tent camping in SW Washington we toured a person’s 2006 Basecamp, and we really liked it. We are now moving in that direction - or maybe a Casita. The GF wants to get a blue heeler dog, so the trailer would be handy.
      Thanks for all of your awesome videos!

    You and Jasper just did more work in the video than I'll do all day. haha. On that emergency breakaway cable, is there a longer one available? Looks like you have a tow hook mount point for it right next to the plug for the trailer. It would probably be too tight using it as is I'm guessing. Just a little dust on the dash... "well used"...haha. Great job done by Jasper the supervisor!!

    • @TailsofWanderlust
      @TailsofWanderlust  3 года назад +1

      Funny, I've never even noticed the tow hook mount before. I'll check it out tomorrow. They do make longer brake cables. And yes, that truck is dirty!

  • @edwardmoran1739
    @edwardmoran1739 Месяц назад

    I used weight distributing hitch which is a bit harder to hook up. You need the electric raiser. But they prevent the dreaded trailer left and right swirl from different road situations. Once the swirl starts, you have a big problem very quickly.

My jack is a little different that yours it had the handle on top so I took the handle off and put u joint from a socket set on then I’m able to use my drill w/adapter to raise and lower my jack. Keep up the good work! Keep up the good work!
