For people who do not do not know the Tripoli fight between the Aliwate and Sunni towns in the city date back to the Lebanese Civil War, the Syrian war made the situation worse, but they have been shooting each other long since some of you commenting were born. Sad but true.
Yet again Vice Reporters are at the sharp end of these conflicts & showing us what is really happening...unlike the BBC!! Loved it when the guy gets up in the middle to let off a few rounds.
There's is always so much hate in the comment section for videos like these. Why do people take information like this as a reason to point fingers. Thinking like this will never result in anything being solved. Remember, one man's devil is another man's god and one country's terrorist is another country's freedom fighter. Quit spreading your pity thoughts of hate and love one another. We're all brothers and sisters of this planet.
Don't worry guys I am a woman (thought you would be able to tell by name? haha) and it's normal for women where I am from to say if a child is pretty/beautiful/cute if you are a woman so don't let your imaginations run wild
True that but that's why I said the second half and my comment, not everyone where I am from who comments on how pretty a baby which is quite common is a pedo so no need to worry about me who thought it would be okay to say it without getting suspected of being a pedo(?)... And tbh, I thought as much but I can't tell sarcasm on the internet of all places anymore. There are people out there who would genuinely ask that question (like iamthebearsnuggler and 4 others) but thanks John, appreciate it.
Yo, I totally share this guys pain and can imagine what hes going through. Reminds me of when I was in NY and my gf dumped me and everyone found out. I would look out my window and people would judge me and throw abuse sometimes. Reminds me of this dude looking through that window and getting shot at. Well, some of us got it rough on this earth ya dig..
Lebanon has so much potential to be a great country. This is an example of when communities stop caring about each other. Everyone divides into factions and everyone faction believes they're right. Dialogue and civility has broken down, and perpetual war becomes the norm. This is why law is so important
This whole situation is pretty fucked. The Syrian conflict probably could have been resolved diplomatically had the International Community intervened at the start when it was still just protestors against a brutal regime. But when the Syrian opposition saw no one coming to help it was only a matter of time until they armed themselves. The problem with the UN is that it cannot act fast enough and even if it could - powerful nations like Russia and China are always reluctant to call for the end of a dictatorship; especially when it's a friendly one. That isn't to say American, Britain do not share a blame in this. The Iraq war of 2003 destabilized the region completely and left a hack job of a western backed government, which has led to the creation of ISIS - which seeks to unite the wider Persian area under an Islamic fundamentalist state. I can only see this entire situation get worse - particularly now there is an ethnic dimension to these confilcts
You are very right about that. Mainstream media no longer reports, but rather whips people into frenzies now. I blame Randolph Hearst for the start of that practice.
I think what the guy is getting at is if the Syrian situation is not resolved relatively peacefully, there will end up a diaspora of militant manpower all over the planet with a whole bunch of political vendettas to nurse and carry out against their rivals and rival sponsoring nations. The guy in the video is already demonstrating there has been a serious lack of containment in the Syrian situation, that's why he has to take responsibility for his faction's refugees on his doorstep. He is saying the situation cannot be contained, and if uncontained and unresolved, the the rest of the world will end up with backlash of one kind or another. That's not a threat, it is a simple ground level relevant analysis of the facts.
and that is why "refugees" from that part of the world should not be admitted anywhere else - not Europe where they cause trouble not Britain not America not Canada. He is, indeed, threatening the world.
8digitPDX ArthurKnoqOut (I'm from Lebanon) I don't believe that refugees could destroy a country...If armed properly they can form a threat..As a christian we(christians) were threaten in Lebanon in 1975 by the palestinian refugees on our land because surrounding muslim countries such as syria was arming them..But the leader of the christian army (Bachir El Gemayel) organized a christian army that defeated them and preserved our right to be in our land, also Lebanese muslims fought alongside us.. Now Lebanon is 50% muslims 50% christians with nothing related to radical islam in it (Lebanon is known to be the Las Vegas of the middle east). But the area you're seeing in the video that gave you concerns about refugees is a small contained area near the borders with syria. And what this man from the video meant by warning the world (although i don't agree with everything he said) is that if there to be a conflict is if the two major powers USA and Russia stood ground with their believes regarding the issue in syria..Then we might be heading towards a WW3 that begins between USA,Russia,Israel and iran. syrian refugees are mostly illiterate with a stone age way of thinking, we have close to 2 million of them, they're not a threat.
Holy fucking shit. There is actually gunbattles outside as they do the interview. Sunnis, shiias and politics aside, this is a horrifying situation for a child to grow up in. May there be peace soon.
Major respect to every person working for VICE doing the real reporting. It's super important to expose the truth in a realistic light, I hope soon Google gains more economic and technological power than the current us/uk government and teams up with vice to expose, reprogram and change the world.
Yes Lebanon speaks Arabic & French as their First & Main Languages, followed by English - so its very normal to have a conversation with ALL THREE Languages making an appearance & completing the communication, as each language has its preferred words for communicating a description or message - pple in these comments are suspect of the Sheik switching between Arabic and English, but this is normal and standard practice in Lebanon
The opening shot with the guy with a black jacket. It's a music label from the Netherlands called ID&T that had released hardcore (as in hardcore electronic, gabberhouse, rotterdam). A bit odd to see that .
Remember no matter how well spoken everyone might think this man is, he was also shooting a gun out of his windows, so maybe the real question for this man would of been. "If you care so much about this country and the people of Syria then why are you fighting in sectarian violence?"
I see your point. Maybe I would think under the circumstances, all you are left with is to pick up arms and do something about it. Granted, it doesn't help to always fight violence with violence.. but better that than have your head cut off by extremists.
This man is the extremist. He is a Sunni cleric who is criticizing the Western medis portrayal of Sunnis all the while Sunnis and Shiites are shooting at eachother outside his house and he is even participating in the battle. Listening to words alone will confuse anyone and I am also guilty of this, but as the saying goes actions speak louder than words.
bahram khan There are things called feet that can carry you far away from danger. The fact is this man wants to be where he is and he might of even moved to where he is with the intention of fighting. This man wants to fight and he wants to kill. 1.5 million people left Syria to be safe, so what makes this man different? He is different because he has every intention to kill.
Yeah.. first haji I've ever seen actually aiming. He even realised that his position was compromised and moved. He is already better than 80% of the FSA fighters in Syria lol.
Dude went from getting interviewed to being in a shootout !!! Then back to the interview ! That's crazy !!! I've never seen no shit like that in all my life !

Pretty cool sniping caught on film there. A well executed routine. Although he might have mentioned to the film crew that they are going to be taking return fire soon :P
Saida is on Sth Lebanon and faces oppressive rule by Hezbollah is they don't stand up to them - many Hezb who went to Syria & fought to protect Assad caused trouble there
Damn I want to know what happened to that guy and if he ever hit anyone with those shots and what was the result. Did the house get hit or did they flee?
Amazing work again but I notice the ads bumped up to 30 seconds , happy to watch if vice is receiving more money to fund your amazing work otherwise Booooo RUclips !
At this point, it would save time to just not call violence in the middle east sectarian violence and instead just say when it isn't. Because for the last 100 years or so, almost every conflict in that region has been religion/ethnicity.

Its pretty bad when you have to sit with a gun next to you and run and shoot out the window. Funny how he remains so calm.
When you are stuck in a hell hole for a while...you get used to it...
Nimesh Widanage
Yea, I can see how that could happen to a person who is in that type situation. Poor guy.
I love that during the interview there is just an AK chillin in the corner lol

That nigga just said "one second", grabbed his gat like a straight OG and started popping off. My nigga.
I like how at 2:03 he broke character and spoke perfect English, rad interview
Being a VICE Reporter/Cameraman would be such a scary job!
unless your that Nepalese fella

Great vid vice
Finally a Vice video with no racist comments.....
That child at 1:20 was so beyond beautiful I really can't
John Doe its hard to say that without sounding like one lol

My god...Please help them
jesus... you vice reporters have some balls
Very interesting cant wait for part 2
Whoa! What a interview.
Bless us all...
I like this guy.
I'm not quite sure what to make of him.
i just love how this guy just casually stops the interview to shoot shit and keeps going on after like nothing happened
That last message at the end is rather unnerving.. Save the syrian people and you will be safe..
It breaks my heart seeing these kids like this long live lebanon. Let's also not forgot what Syrians are running from
2:35 "Give me my fucking AK back."
Sorry, I felt the need to add some form of humor.
Is that what he actually said, or are you ad-libbing?
Bob I was just trying to be funny, but you never know!
That looked like a Mas 49 rifle. With a 7.5 french cartridges it has some reach. No wonder the people firing DShK got pissed.
Last I heard ammo in that calibre was expensive
This was an very interesting interview, i have to say this man gave an good interview.
cant wait for dispatch 2!!

You're not doing to well in the thinking department. You need to stop believing anything you hear on CNN.
HIT3kNology nobody agrees with you, he has 23 upvotes. You are wrong.
Speaks arab. "One second". Speaks arab again lol
Holy shit.. that was insane when they were taking gunfire at 4:58. Another amazing short from vice.
Those closing comments were exceptional. Well done.
Lebanon doesn't get any breaks does it.
Incredible journalism.
..."combat between Sunnis and Alawites (not Shias) in the streets of tripoli"...
This man is very well spoken. I hope that he will be able to regain the peace his country once had.
You are very right about that. Mainstream media no longer reports, but rather whips people into frenzies now. I blame Randolph Hearst for the start of that practice.

THA WAS AN AWESOME INTERVIEW IT GRABS THE TRUE INTENTIONS OF WHAT IS HAPPENING
Good interview, seemed as real as any "war" interview I have ever seen.
watching the bearded fellow with the rifle prepare to shoot was like watching my cat get a mouse
Props to this news caster.....he is very daring
Pretty intense... Love to be a reporter like them
Thats one if the most Boss ass interviews ive ever seen.

Amazing reporting Vice, This video is tits. I love that at one point the dude is like...hold on let me close the door so we dont hear gun shots
I like how the flash is firing during 4:26 from the camera. Making it easier for the "enemies" to spot him.

you'd think the lebanese would have had enough of violence after their 15 year civil war
Dang they still using old French rifles, Lebanon must've been an old French colony or something.
Lebanon was freed by the French that's why most Lebanese schools teach French as a first language ^^
And you have quite a lot of French people living there too.

that guy knows some basics of sharpshooting there not like the syrian kid rebels
when he wrapped his sling around his arm, i was thinking that too. i was like *oh shit!* lol
Shawn Singleton his rifle looks like a Egyptian 8 x 57 mm Hakim, much more range, power and accuracy than the AK 47 in 7.62 x 39 mm.

Some balls on that interviewer and cameraman
This man doesn't really look violent in any way.

My dad was apart of the Irish peace keeping forces back during the civil war,, Very sad seeing it's all starting to kick off again
good work.
What a sound guy
Your reporter was lucky those were'nt rocket rounds, that was incredibly close.
"The bombing of Ersal"? What is that about? "And on the people of Saida" - Where is Saida?
Saida is on Sth Lebanon and faces oppressive rule by Hezbollah is they don't stand up to them - many Hezb who went to Syria & fought to protect Assad caused trouble there
Excellent. You guys have balls, good. (Y)
