I like how Rhett tried to play up how "shocking" it is that 3's are sensitive. Rhett is so sensitive, so much more than Link honestly and to me at least it's not at ALL shocking, it's not a bad thing, but I thought it was obvious. Rhett wouldn't feel so defensive about things if he wasn't sensitive, Link on the other hand cares so much less about defending himself or what he does, he's significantly more confident. Sensitivity isn't about emotional expression, but even then Rhett talks about crying more than Link actually cries (at least on camera) and when Rhett DOES cry, it's always about something that hits him really deeply (like Ben's passing, or their deconstruction stories and how 2020 affected him).
Ok so Link just cuts right through "this was a revelation to yourself" god I love them so much.

The last few years listening to this podcast, I’ve become a little frustrated with the enneagram talk. Listening to this episode I finally nailed down what has been bothering me. Sometimes it seems that people use the enneagram to circumvent further exploring the inner workings of their mental state and feelings. They find a palatable answer to explain a bit about why they are the way they are and then can’t move past it to do more uncomfortable work of self reflection. For that reason, I really enjoy hearing Link’s insights and honesty on how his upbringing has or hasn’t impacted his inner world and behaviors and how it’s not all reliant on the enneagram. I’m curious to see in a few years what Rhett and Link think about the enneagram.

I’ve been into the enneagram for about 4 years now. For anyone just getting started, I highly recommend taking a test (I took enneagram institute) but you should read in depth about your highest scoring results. My top numbers were, in this order: 9, 5, 2 & 6. At first I related to the 9, but upon reading about the 6 I am DEFINITELY a 6. The tests can be inaccurate because the way you perceive yourself to be can be very different than who you actually are-this all depends on your own personal self-discovery & awareness

I’m a type-9 wing 1and I am 100% in agreement. 3 is my integration line, so Rhett snd I share the same lack of self-identity, but the difference is 9s are more slothful and more willing to let things go. I am less worried about not having worth, and more worried about not being present or losing connection, and upsetting people. I sometimes get so caught up in other perspectives that I am somewhat apprehensive about sharing my own perspective as I don’t feel like it matters. I hate the feeling of anger and never felt like my anger could be of any benefit to people. I’ve learned to be more outspoken on what I believe, but it is always with the disclaimer of “I could be wrong but I feel like.” I sometimes fear that I will lose contact with people I love, not by some drastic life shift, but by my own inability to express my desire to see them.

I know some people think it is like a horoscope, but I have found the importance lies with your own reasoning about what you do the things you do. Their discussion about 1 vs 3 is such a good explanation- I have a good friend who I recently asked to take the test and they are a 1 and I guessed they would have been a 3. Same with 2s vs 9s. 7w8! Had a therapist use the enneagram with me almost 10 years ago. Now, I'm a therapist myself and I believe use of any personality based tool isn't a concrete thing, it's more of a tool to promote self-insight and growth. Personality is fluid, which is why I like the enneagram because it doesn't use a predetermination of who you are.

Same for me. I think there is another personality type that I like to call "the Chameleon". People might have some traits from all other personality types, that can change depending on the situation. Perfectionist in some cases, but then also a peacemaker In others. Maybe the situation calls for an achiever type...so you become that for the moment. It makes personality tests very stressful because I never know what to answer. I can see all answers being viable depending on the context.

Even though I’m not a type 1 like Link (I’m a 2), I can relate so deeply to his feeling of “if I do something wrong, I’m a bad person” and how much it’s pounded into your head in certain religions. I was raised in the south as a southern Baptist. I grew up, like Link, as a CHILD, being told “you are dirty and guilty until you earn forgiveness.” I remember being 10 years old and telling my Mom that I didn’t know if I wanted to continue going to church if religion is just a ball and chain around your ankle that you have to be fearful of every day of your life. There are people who do both personality tests, first using Myers Briggs, then further defining with Enneagram testing -- though even if you discover your MBTI and Enneagram match on Reddit, you may still find your worldview may differ in plenty of places. It's comforting to see that we are not as different from others as we may think, but also interesting to know that there is no person that is 100% like us either. Just my opinion.

Rhett is making me realize that 3 is on my tritype. Each zone 8/9/1, 2/3/4, 5/6/7 are related to a center, body/anger, image/sadness, head/fear respectively, the idea of the Tritype is that you can operate out of 1 from each depending depending on your emotional state and the base fears for each. You still have a base that you operate out of more, but each can have a certain level of influence depending on the person. I'm a 9/5/3, but not sure about the order. Before you ask 9 is anger, for nines it's suppressed and or internalized, self oppression rather than externalized anger 8s, other oppression, or environmental anger 1's anger over controling the environment through perfection in rules and outcomes. Each area is similar. Sadness or image 2's helping others, 3's internalized sadness /image , 4's environmental, show image through being unique thus they are artist. Etc
