I listened to this on apple podcast before the video came out and when I heard him getting choked up about Jesse I started to get emotional, you can hear the love he has for her. It’s beautiful.
Thank you for sharing about Jessie. I’m a woman raised in the southern evangelical church, and I spent 30 something years very angry. I didn't want to be “subdued and owned” by men. It was so built into my culture that I didn't even know that was what I was fighting until I left the church. I appreciate your acknowledgment of our struggle and I appreciate your willingness to evolve. Loving a woman but honoring her freedom is everything.

This episode was a roller-coaster. One of the best. Listening to links story had me dying laughing at work and Rhett at the end had me tearing and reflecting about humanity as a whole. Awesome
I never realised that the evangelical church went to the extreme of saying a man literally owns his wife. It just increases my respect for the four of them finding the strength to question what they'd been brought up to believe and ultimately leave those kind of harmful beliefs behind. I don't mean to offend, everyone has a right to their faiths and opinions, and also a right to walk away from them.
They don't. I've literally spent my whole life in churches. I have moved to multiple cities/states, attending multiple churches. Rhett and Link are taking this extremely out of context. It's not what the church teaches. Sadly they do this a lot with many of their criticisms of the church. You're going to write me off as just being defensive because I'm christian. Really appreciate this podcast, especially Rhett’s reflection on Jessie’s evolution. I can only imagine how it feels to be raised in that culture as a woman, being told what your worth is entirely decided on your gender.
I loved this episode. Link's massage story had me in tears from laughter and Rhett's from tears of compassion. I love these guys so much. Wishing you many more wonderful anniversary trips : )
When Rhett asked Link if the waiter was straight or gay, and Link just said... "I didn't ask." All I have to say is, good answer Link. Good answer. Proud of you.
Ok, as a woman, this brings me a newfound respect for you guys. And I respected you guys before because of your journey, spiritual and career-wise too. As good fathers, funny people, and honest ones. But now, respect as a human being seen by another human as something else than an object but as what we are. Humans with different sets of genitals. Literally. It's just...stupid if you bring anything else to the table. Skin, language, and everything. Yes, it's different. But we're all the same material, same thing with different faces, names, and beliefs. That's it. Trying to rule it while spinning in space on a rock is something that only crazy humans can do I think. I hope we can do better. But you two made me feel a bit better since I've met only horrible...horrible men haha. Wish you all the best. Thank you for talking about it Rhett.

There are so many good parts of this podcast, one of my new faves! Between Link's hilarious story and Rhett's beautiful retrospection on his and his wife's journey together through religion and out of it. But I also loved Rhett talking about how much he loves CA! So many people think CA is just L.A. they judge the whole state on one city as if it's not one huge landmass full of different cultures and people and locations. I grew up way up north where my home didn't even have a fence because we were surrounded by nothing but trees, inches and inches of snow in the winter, swimming in local rivers, eating fresh fruit off bushes, interacting with wild animals, like that was ALSO a CA kind of experience. Big Sur is beautiful and I got to camp there with my mom only once but it's a memory I cherish, so hearing his experience out in those redwoods and the takeaway of connection is really special. I wish more people thought less about what you hear in the news about locations and cared more about how we're just humans living in different places, CA is beautiful and even though I haven't lived there in half my lifetime it's still special, I cherish the years I lived in West Point.
Omg 😂😂 I "CA-CAAAW" all the time. 😂😂 If I separate from my bf in a store or something I'll put out a "CA-CAAW!" to let him know where I am or so he can "CA-CAAW" back at me so I can find him. 😂😂😂
Seeing Rhett get choked up about the realisation of how the release of those religious views impacted the liberation of his wife is really moving. I keep thinking about their video when they moved to LA and they filmed the road trip. Where they talked about not letting LA change them. And it’s so great to cut to now in that thought and see how it in fact did change them. And really, how it bettered them and how much they have grown.
