You're making a good point -- it's a short jump from our minor modes to Eastern tonalities. Guess we'll never know how the far East came to be so pentatonic.
Thank you! This one came about while singing the tonic as I practiced, so as to hear a foundation note in my mind, and suddenly I was hearing a Sitar kind of sound!☺
this is wonderful! it gives it a certain "mystique" to it. You manage to use the pedal and playing legato and STILL it sounded clear and not muddled. im very impressed
Penny have you read the essay that CPE Bach wrote about keyboard playing? I like the reference to his father he makes near the start saying that he once told him a story that players never use to use the thumb while playing
@@lukeluke7082 Thats right, Luke. Yes, I have here, on my shelf by the piano, CPE Bach’s Essay on the True Art of Playing Keyboard Instruments. It’s amazing to think about not using the thumb. I know it was the case long ago, though I’m not well versed in the details. CPE writes in support of the thumb, he says it gives “the hand not only another digit, but the key to all fingering.” Powerful stuff for the thumb! Pianism of later eras owes much to Bach. I am always delighting in this, I feel in touch with the great piano composers of later years when I play his music. It’s like the source of piano artistry!✨
Here's my performance of Invention 2 in the original version: ruclips.net/video/rfu7AwEOg_k/видео.html 🎹
That was beautiful! Invention #2 has always been a special piece to me. This Eastern modification sounds very natural!
Thank you, Samuel!✨🎹
I'm so glad I've been recommended your channel - you are amazing!
