They were first invented for disabled mermaids who had a fin missing or something, but then it got so commercialized they actually exploited the heck out of that market just to make profit out of it. And thus Oceana became a society who reaps of the benefits of the merpeople who need it most just to enrich the upper class by imposing fashion and aesthetics. Did I really think about this hard for a Barbie movie? Yes. Was it during 3 am and let my intrusive thoughts win? Yes.

Al yes, Barbie as an Island Princess, the one with the talking Elephant. You'll absolutely hate it. Also, Nutcracker Barbie is always a classic.
