- A great sounding Phaser for 50 bucks? Sure... this thing delivers... the speed knob is not quite as linear as one would want, but other than that, the sounds are great!

Brilliant, especially the colour coordination
Phaser is my favorite pedal. I've tried it before and after distortion. For me it really does the job after distortion pedals. Good video. Ty.
Wow! I like it. Not as smooth as Boss PH-1 or EHX Small Stone but smoother than MXR Phase 90 and more versatile.
I love this phaser. I've had a few different ones and this has been my favorite.
i just got this in the mail a few days back. i put it towards the end of my pedal chain where my phase 90 used to be. it seems that the blood moon boosts the signal throwing everything off when engaged.
Agreed just got one same issue, makes it pretty unusable for me
@@mikeuntiches4686 same
@@BazzSurfer I fixed it in mine with a simple mod. Locate SMD resistor R12 on the board (near the switch and two through-hole electrolytic capacitors) and solder another 12kOhm resistor parallel to it. That drops the gain of the output opamp so that the whole pedal operates at unity gain when engaged.
@@smk666 same issue here, I tried soldering a 12k resistor but did not work for me. Then I soldered a linear potentiometer (100k, but 50k will be good) between same resistor, and put it on the box with a knob. Problem solved.
@@smk666 Thanks, I'm going to try this
Try with the Phaser before the distortion, for me it's better, anyway as usual good demo
I like phasers after the overdrive and before a distortion, between two gain pedals.
I have the Helix and it's great right out the box!
This one is not bad 50 bucks new 3 knobs you have to give it a look!👍
Hi Royce ! I'm considering buying a phaser. I like the MXR phasers (mini phase 95 and phase 99) But they have only one or 2 knob (2 knobs for the Phase 99)
I like the Helix because it have more control knobs. But Helix is not analog. Does it affect the tone ? Can we hear it with our human ears ? (sorry for my english) Or is it just a snob pedal thing ?
Chuck Norris No it's true bypass and quiet! I also like the mxr 95 and the 99 but with the 99 you would need two amps to get some of the sounds!👍
Royce Dock Thanks for you answer Royce ! I'll probably go with the Helix then !! ;-)
Nice demo, and interesting pedal. It actually delays a lot on the sweep if you want. The delayed phase can be heard at 9:22. In multi-stage phasers, as they move in opposite directions before bouncing back, they cross the relative zero point of time shift, making that negative time shift impression.
I mean, as the phases can be moving in opposite directions... If there were two phases over the dry signal, for instance, they don't start together. Then, as they are moving forward, the first one reach the maximum delay time and starts decreasing that delay time, "bouncing back", getting less delayed, while the second is still getting more delayed. The same thing repeats when both are "coming back", until the first one reaches the minimum delay time and is bounced forward. It can be done with electronics or software variables. Helix is a very cool digital phaser.
Luke Reiss yea I think the depth control creates more repetitions, basically like a stacking phasers and the Feedback control does what I expected the depth control to do.
Thanks for this review. I think an MXR pedal is in my future. I didn't like how drastic this pedal changed with small turns of the controls. Overall I don't think it's consistent.
For clean sounds it's astonishingly nice.. and I usually don't even like that effect. Or tremolos. Just harmonic tremolos which are basically phaser & tremolo in one if I'm not mistaken.
The BloodMoon basically does this very nicely for some reason, reminds me of the Strymon Flint HT. Don't have a phaser yet so I'm probably going to buy this!
Harmonic tremolo isn't phaser and tremolo in one. It's basically two tremolo circuits in parallel, one after a low pass filter and one after a high pass, with the LFO modulating the two volumes in opposite directions. It sounds like a subtle phaser because a low pass and high pass in parallel produce a notch filter, which is also produced by a phaser in a different way.
Thanks for the explanation! It does sound a bit different than a full on phaser that's probably why I like it haha.
Feedback is the gain of the peak of the filter. So resonance.
I have the Kokko FPH2, also known under the Nux brand, and it is excellent. The Blood Moon is very similar, if not in appearance, but I have a feeling that the Kokko was the real find.
sounds so warm ! i like it
I actually use it as a boost for solos. Loud with a little color.
this is a good review, the pedal sounds better in this review then others
The volume jump at 16:23 is why I find this pedal unusable. I recorded from the emulated out of my amp into Audacity to see if it was just a perceived volume increase, but no, the amplitude doubled. I've tried putting it in various places in the chain, all to no avail.
If anyone has any tips, I'd greatly appreciate them!
Four years later, but did you try putting it in the effects loop? I always put modulation pedals in the loop, specifically to solve that volume jump that happens with a distorted sound.
@@1man1guitarletsgo it boosted everything, clean, distorted, wherever it was in the chain, so I retired it and bought a Fender Highway One instead.
@@Rhythmic1274 Thanks for your reply. I'm looking to get a phaser, but finding one that sounds good, doesn't have switch noise, doesn't raise the noise floor, doesn't bleed through when it's switched off, doesn't suck tone, and doesn't change the volume is proving quite a challenge!
@@1man1guitarletsgo the Highway One is great. You can have two settings on it, so I've set mine to a slow sweep and one that sounds like the bridge in Dani California. Loads of options to play with, and there's a switch on the back to give it a 3db (if I remember correctly) boost should you wish. Aesthetically very nice too.
The Phase 90 sounds so subtle because there is a trim pot inside that adjusts the strength of the effect, and the one you have is not in it's position to get the best phase. I'm certain that you could have gotten a stronger, chewier sound.
This Phaser also have a Trim pot inside.
Does the job and it's a great little blender pedal to be used in conjunction with other pedals and works better in that way.
came for the blood moon left with a phase script 90
17:45 - Hehehe. Yeah, there's your tone Henning!
Cheers from Canada!
dog cameo at 5:22 was great
Clean, phasers like this and the EHX (or old Sovtek) Small Stone make me think of the intro to "Babe" by Styx.
Nice Demo. Just purchased this pedal for £28. The price made me sceptical but have heard several demo's. Definitely value for money. I have to ask. Are you aware there is a Dog in your apartment?
Btw. Your videos are way much fun when kiana is in them. Bring her back!
OK, THIS is an awesome animal .well done Henning.
I've just recenlty bought one of these and one thing has to be said: this is not a subtle effect. Depending on your set-up, it really colors the sound and I'd much rather buy a Helix, but this is, BY NO MEANS, a bad pedal. I have just started playing in a Queen cover band: nobody knows where the project is headed but I really needed a phaser pedal (I was never interested in phasers before this band), so the Blood Moon fit like a glove. The thing is: if you have the money, sure go as genuine as you can, but if you are a working musician who needs a phaser for a couple of segments in a couple of songs, be sensible and maybe invest in other things that'll shape your sound a lot more. Bottom line is: I`m keeping it.
I just bought one and had to come and check if mine was faulty. The depth knob is very strange. Once dialled in, it sounds good, but it seems like it goes from nothing, to something, then back to nothing as you turn it
Now i want a Mad Professor One back....
Lol its a phaser pedal. Make this video quick and answer two questions. Can i plug it into a fender amp and sound like waylon or a marshall and sound like evh?
what kind of distortion are you using at 16:05? sounds awesome!
Mine always adds gain to the signal and it ends up sounding kinda clippy not in a good way, any way to fix it or am I doomed?
Great one!
I have heard that joke about 6 or 7 times but don't worry Henning its still funny.
Hello Henning, could you please upload more cheap Harley Benton guitar videos?
I really like them and i'm about to buy one and i need your opinion so if you could please
do that it would really help, thanks! :) Love the videos though keep it up!
These pedals come from behringer right? they are like the behringer made with metal right?
So why super phase shifter has RISE and FALL settings and this one not?
Hi Henning,
sounds like something UMO would use
Sound vintage! 😁
Spideux ! En français ;-)
Hi. What distortion pedal are you using with the Phaser? Thanks.
I can't remember
5:20 :)
Henning, been having a hard time with my MXR Phase 90. When engaged, it boosts and distorts my signal, which is no good when trying to phase a pristine clean sound. Does this pedal boost and distort if you play it a little strong-handed?
That's partially because of the feedback. Clip one side of R28 (either side works) on the Phase 90 and the feedback will be disconnected, making it more like a vintage Phase 90 and reducing distortion. However, all JFET based phasers (which is most of them, including this one I believe) will distort a little.
@@anarchocommunist9154 can you fix that somehow? Asking because mine is in shipping
That look on 15:56 :P
14:51
14:57
Cmon put up the afterglow!!! Dooooooooder!
better than the small stone ehx ?
Nie pedal, but i do strongly believe that idea of creating new phasers is pointless since MXR's legendary phase90 exists. So in my world - since always cause im kinda young :P
Is it me or does this Phaser brings a little drive when it's on ? I already heard that in the TC review and some people mentioned it in the comment.
Chuck Norris i expérience a volume boost when I engage the pedal. And it produces a quite obvious latching sound when I turn it on and I'm in clean.
Thanks for your answer Ja T ! I will spend more money and buy me the Grand Orbiter Phaser from Earthquacker Devices.
there are bad wolfs around!! :D be careful man!! XD
you are purposely doin the Forcefield last arent you? Just to piss me off !! LOL!!!
Dave Lovallo. hey Dave.... yep, the Forcefield is last... but not to piss you off... it is a great compressor!
"Speedeux" ?!
You actually look like a blood moon hehe ;P
Hast du in Berkley studiert?
Would be a great video if the silliness and geek factor was edited out :)
