Oh yeah definitely No. 2 hahaha if it doesn't look pro it isn't pro!!!! :P I have the exact same set-up with all Smallrig accessories. While I don't think it makes my footage look better, it certainly aids in my ability to control the camera better and simplify much of the use! Plus it looks PROOOOOOOOOMG

Give it two more years boss... People are starting to do that until they realize it's just not gonna pay much because a cell phone... but man it's so convenient!
Does anyone else feel oddly satisfied when you see a nice A7S III set-up? I waited for the damn camera for so long and watched so many reviews that even though I have it, I appreciate it when other people have it.
Thank you for the suggestions. Looks like a really nice setup. The problem I've had w/ a similar rig for my B cam (Canon 80D) is lack of portability. Then there's how you store the equipment when not in use - you have to take it all apart piece by piece. It takes a long time and it's hard to decide where to put it. Also, if you're traveling and need something mobile, the rig is cumbersome. There's also the issue of cost. I'm sure it's fairly expensive to rig it out like that. That monitor alone is like $500. The cage you linked to is almost $400. That's almost $1k right there, on top of the $4500 you'll spend on the camera and a good lens. On a positive note, the rig is ideal for going handheld and getting slightly more stable shots since it's heavier. It's also more useful as you can attach a million things to it.

Lost a client recently because they hired someone that can give them “better quality.” I have a Sony a7sIII, been shooting for 6 years, worked in high production music videos with REDS. The client they hired over me was someone (a year in filming) with a canon 80d rigged up… gotta love it. So yes a rig will help get clients 🤷♂️

I made a very similar rig for my a7iv using small rig parts.. the main difference is that I wanted to be able to quickly get down to just the cage so I opted for NATO rails on the top and side of the cage and got NATO handles and a NATO monitor mount as well. Once you pop it off the baseplate of the rig you can pop the handles off super quick as well.

adding a vmount battery will balance the weight out for more smoother handheld work.
As well as power the monitor and the camera for all day shooting without having to swap batteries

My advice, always get & a top handle 👍 makes handling your camera sooo much easier with a top handle 😁 I bought a cage for my Sony FDR-AX33 with a top handle, then bought a Panasonic G5 and just had to buy a cage with top handle for that too! Love a good cage with top handle 👍❤️😁
Can we get an update on your rig Peter ? I love the look of this rig but I’m torn on what to do with the battery for the monitor, does the battery weigh the rig down that it tilts forward ? Would love another up to date rig set Up

The way the monitor is rigged up, is it nice? It doesn't look like you are able to turn it 180 degree for shooting a dope selfie. I'm about to order the right setup, so a answer would be very appreciated
Nice Bro! I have my 2nd cam (a7III) rigged up with Tilta just like that. And yes, it's a game changer on client shoots
Suggestion: update this video highlighting A7S3 gyro stabilization and Sony Catalyst software for ProRes raw conversion that makes a hand-held rig like yours even more practical now. Does a "high-end" rig really impress the client? Absolutely. I have seen a new client literally breathe a sigh of relief when they see an obviously professional piece of equipment.

8Sinn is actually the best cage you can get. But they are very expensive. Their design is mind blowing beautiful and they feel amazing.

Peter seeing u looking at cine cameras I think u should try the FX3 coz it has similar output u like of the 7SIII, and you can probably rig it up as well to ur liking and enjoy the Sony focus and smoothness. Unless if u major goal is to get to the real big-league Cine Shots....Then oh well I guess u would have look further!😎👌. Love ur work...One day hopefully we would be able to order ur caps down here in South Africa love them to!

Does buying the whole tilta kit with the two handles, cage and baseplate save you money? Not sure if I’m ready to spend $380 but might be inclined if I save money as opposed to buying the components individually.

As an amateur prosumer kind of person I have the opposite problem, I have a nice big camera with nice expensive big lenses and when I go on vacation or just shooting around in general people think I am a pro or the worst, a paparazzo. It can be a real pain in the @$$ sometimes. 😒

Funny, i said the same when i got my camera, ( i’m on Fuji) that the lenses are too small.. all my photographer friends were saying i should be happy, then i explained to them that actually the bigger the lens and the kit the more “pro” you look... sad but true..

I love your vids, I have bought the a7siii thanks to your advice. HOWEVER to say the a7iii is not that much less money to the a7siii rigged out is BS. I paid $2400 (CDN) for the a7iii but I spent $9700 (cdn) to rig out my a7siii with atomos V and the basecamp filters and railings and mic etc, so yeah 2400 is A LOT less than $9700 as most can put 2400 on their normal CC but to most an $9700 investment is out of reach so to down play it like that makes it seem unrealistic and diminutive to those that the a7iii is the BEST they can afford (ps, add a splash of talent and NO client will know difference)

I built a smaller rig for my Canon G7XM2 and it looked a lot more impressive giving it a more professional look as you said.
I don't do big gigs or client work but freelance work (unpaid) for my chili festival friends.

Can you fit a rig like that on Thanos Pro II
I mean, the FX6 is the same sensor as the a7siii minus the NR. Don't really see a point in ever moving onto it unless you want the internal ND's. The FX9 on the other hand....that image quality tho! But also stupid expensive, lol
