  • 2025 KTM 350XCF vs 2025 Husqvarna TX300 Heritage Edition back to back on a short woods loop. Two of my current favorite dirt bikes: 350 Thumper and 300 Smoker! 4-stroke vs 2-stroke! Which has the better lap time? Let's ride them and find out!
    2023 Husqvarna TX300 Heritage Edition Lap Time 2:48.5
    The latest Austrian 300 TBI 2-stroke engines have strong (MXA says 55hp) linear power with impressive partial throttle torque feel. The latest chassis is a great balance of cornering and stability at speed. I like the look and feel of the Husky graphics and plastic, especially the Heritage Edition. Low vibration, little engine braking, and responsive power make for a quick handling bike. The Heritage plastic and colors have an 80's vibe but the big power and quick handling are modern day.
    2025 KTM 350XCF Lap Time 2:43.5
    350's have long been my favorite overall combination of Power/Weight/Handling and this updated chassis and the latest 350 engine continues the tradition. This is the best stock 350 engine I've ridden to date. I've ridden a '23 350SXF many times but this 25 350XCF engine seems to run a bit smoother at the initial turn of the throttle and feels crisper and a little stronger in the mid range and continues to pull from mid to top. One of the best overall 4-stroke dirt bike engines available today and with the Connectivity Unit Offroad the power character can be dialed in. For this ride I used the Gravel/Wet power map with throttle response and engine braking both minimized and Traction Control maximized. This combination made for a very smooth initial throttle response - great for woods riding. The latest XCF suspension setting feels very good. Plush enough for off road and enough hold up to work well for slow Vet moto.
    I've been on the fence about getting a new Austrian 350. When the 25 350XCF showed up it last week it knocked me off the fence!
    Here is my first ride impression on the 25 KTM 350XCF....

    No surprise here, 4T is faster in all but the gnarliest hard enduro stuff. I rode my 4T 250 and 2T 300 back-to-back on a really rough 8 mile woods loop, mostly rocks, definitely conditions that favor the 2T. Rode the 2T first so i was fresh, and was still 20 seconds slower on the 2T. If i rode the 4T first i think that gap would be double. There are only a handful of guys left running 2T in GNCC. It all comes down to the more planted feel of the 4T. I can push harder with less deflection issues, hold my lines better, etc.

      Yea even in national enduro only handful left of 2t... raced my new 24 gg ex250f yesterday in it's first HS with 5hrs on the bike, and was able to charge much harder and safe/ planted feeling over the gnarly 9mi course over 2hrs than I would have on my previous bike (23 tx300 heritage)...imo

      @@davidgrunklee8407 Another real world experience - great stuff! 4-strokes have that planted feel that gives confidence and perhaps that helps make thumpers easier to ride over longer races.

    excellent back to back review! I often feel faster on my 2024 300XC, but my riding buddies confirm I usually hold a bit better pace on my CRF250RX, 4T has a bit better traction/hook up combined with a more planted front tire lets you go just a hair faster in each corner, brake later, back on gas faster, , imagine if you did a 2 to 3 hour race and you are 4-5 sec faster per minute! that really adds up over a race! For me, the exception is an all out push pull and drag ride super tech slow speeds, then the 2T can get the advantage back again,!.

      @@mxengineer1 Man you’re twisting my arm pretty good. I was dead set on a Beta, but the more I see, the more I like the KTM.

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1  Месяц назад +1

      @@vegasace1767 Beta 4-strokes have great low engine RPM stall resistance and run smoothly. The Race Editions with KYB are definitely worth the extra money (KYB is good). There is a heavier feel to the Beta as they weigh probably 10~12 lbs more than a similar KTM and with their smooth power (and a little less power) can feel a little heavier in motion. KTM XCF is a much racier feel overall (lighter and more powerful) while the KTM XCFW's are closer in power and low engine RPM to comparable Beta models. Nice to have choices!

  • @parkcitymacs

    Cool comparison. It looks like you are much more “ leaned in” for the inside corners with the 350, meaning the tires are in the center of the trail, opposed to the 300 which appears to be more on the outer side of the trail. Thus, the 350 hand guards and hitting more branches in the corners. Another thing, is that it looks like the 300 is a little more busy. So to check this, what I did for kicks, was take a small section from each, and import it into FCP X on my Mac and run stabilization. I did this in 3 similar sections. In each case, FCP X took more time to stabilize the motion for the 300 and the “zoomed” in factor for the parameters was increased slightly on the 300. Not sure if that means there was more overall motion, or if the handle bar motion was more busy.

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1  Месяц назад +1

      Cool analysis! I have the LITPRO on the 25 350XCF (which does not have hand guards) so if I got LITPRO for the 300 could do some analysis of the loop. Laptime is a variable to look at when riding back to back. The TX300 suspension (full Pro Components) felt pretty good to me last fall and earlier this spring but after spending so much time riding 4-strokes recently I may need to spin a few clickers on the TX300 to get it a little more compliant (or perhaps there is something to the updated frame having more compliance and tire contact patch feel)....maybe a '25 300XC would work better?😎

    • @parkcitymacs
      @parkcitymacs Месяц назад +1

      @@mxengineer1 ya the LitPro is the ticket. Maybe an iPhone with a GPS app like Gaia or other you could get stats from the same device on each machine. GoPro used to have a track option. I know every time I’m on my buddies 24’ fx300 I try to blitz him on the trails if I’m in front. Rarely works. I definitely feel faster with the 300 the more technical it gets. Fact is, when he’s on my 350 he pretty much blitzes me 100 percent of the time. I get back on my 350 and I feel slower on it, but it’s not the case.

    What a great comparison test !!! Really surprised how much quicker the KTM was - figured that in the woods the Husky would have been better - when I do time tests on the mx track between my RX300 and my Fact ed 450 KTM the 450 has a quite the advantage but the RX just feels like you are going faster - I have never tried timing on trails as I dont get in the woods to often but imo I would rather ride the 300 because it just seems more fun and you you are having fun riding you ride much much better !!!! Thanks for the great video

      Glad you enjoyed the video! Back to Back rides are a fun way to get a feel for the different characteristics of each bike. Laptimes add another data point for comparison but maybe we need a smile meter - which bike makes us smile more because that fun factor is very important too! Love my Beta 300 Race Edition and my 450 Factory Edition!

    Interesting comparison and in those conditions i thought the 350 would be quicker. I have had many 2 and 4 strokes and at the moment my favorite is my 24 Sherco 300 SEF. Doesn't feel scary fast but when you ride with other bikes it is actually quick. Perfect balance of power,handling and suspension. Hope you can get your butt on a late model Sherco 4 stroke..its been a while for you.😂

      Always will be a 300 2-stroke and 350 4-stroke. If I could only have one I would pick the 350XCF since I ride moto a little more than off road. If I rode more trails then a 300 smoker.
