Building a House, Part 4: Framing the First Floor of Our 2-Story House

After excavation, foundation, and septic installation, it was on to more exciting things: framing the first story of our 2-story house!
Several loads of lumber arrived in the middle of a snowstorm, including engineered I-joists for the floor. Once the floor was framed, HVAC and plumbing lines were roughed in throughout the house before the subfloor went in.
The crew framed each exterior and interior wall on the floor where they were supposed to go, and by Week 6 of construction, they lifted all the assembled walls into place. The front porch followed, and the ceiling was framed just in time-we got more snow right as work began on the second floor. Building in winter definitely keeps you on your toes!
