Lady Tron is epic here. Ferry`s vocals are as powerfull as the band, as always. Superb.

This is the session with the SUPERB version of Ladytron, which is better than the album version!!
I STILL have this on a Philips C60 cassette, recorded from the John Peel programme, on an ITTKB SL75 Radio Cassette Recorder in 1972.

Coolio reminds me of taping punk sessions from John Peel in the late seventies with a cassette portable placed next to an old radio, Soundhog tapes I seem to remember then could have been Maxell or Sony, finding new music was so exciting and took a lot of effort. And yeah love the old Roxy with Eno the alchemist off the fcuking page no one could touch them at the time!

Happily now have that 1972 session on the double CD set released a couple of years ago. Again, I prefer the session version of Ladytron to the album version.

Eno's emblazont! Oh,man! How could anybody, after hearing this, think they were anything less than futuristic! Shredding the keyboard melting psychotronics, man! Wonderful. Sick. Masterful! Wildmen!!!

Great comments below. I was 3 years old when this was broadcast and have just discovered it, another to thank John Peel posthumously for his insight.I recall the ITT cassette player though you to be careful that it didn't chew up your favourite recordings.
Hardened Roxy Music fans may disagree with me but I think the Old Grey Whistle Test version of Ladytron takes some beating for its groundbreaking, bombastic su rrea lism.
This version of 2HB though is really beautiful and oddly I can hear Autobahn by Kraftwerk in those synthesized vibrations during the instrumental middle section.

I didn't hear Roxy until 1976 -- the Viva Live album - and I worked my way backward. I've been a fan ever since. How is this early work still so brilliant? Classic. Just beautiful.

And yes - I do prefer the "early stuff". I saw them in 79 when Manifesto came out - but I wasn't as enamored of the later albums. Still great!! But not in the same way.

All the rest of the first album not recorded on the 4th Jan 1972.
Someone shoud sort the two sessions into the album running order and upload them as an alternative version of the album. Or better still the Beeb should put out the sessions with the LP running order.

i thought peter sinfield ruined the first record by putting Ferry's voice through a strainer. His voice sounds so high, i can barely recognize it. Here's the proof. All 4 of these versions are better than on the album, if only because of the poor production of the album. BTW, I assume this is Manzanera, not O'List?
