I like the idea that it has all the advantages of the Wrangler and the Rough Riders, but with swing out cylinders and double action.
The Birdshead look like a great EDC.
That's what I was thinking
Very honest and sincere review. Certainly appreciate your presentation and fairness. Nice job.
I appreciate that! Thank you!
Your marksmanship always amazes me. Great video.
Thank you! I appreciate your comment!
Finally, the pistol, I was waiting for 22 Cost low can shoot all day easy to conceal high capacity practice, for my pistol, aiming skills for my other high caliber hand guns perfect! Oh diamondback there’s another customer coming. Sweet 😊
Your honesty has saved me a lot of money. Take care my friend
Glad to be of service!
2 sacks of potatoes on a double action trigger. Wow.
Substantial hand strength required!
Buffalo. Well you called it as you seen it. all good points that you brought out in the videoing of this pistol. Peace - Dave
Thanks man! I tried to cover everything that I felt was relevant.
I really like that gun!
Sweet lil gun. Reminds me of the old High Standard Longhorn model
Thanks for watching!
My db is now worn in and shoots 👍 about 1,000 rds and clean and oil at the trigger and cylinder rotator action did the trick
That looks like a pure fun gun. Diamondback’s resurrection of the old High Standard Double Nine is interesting. I know it’s mostly style (I have a pink Sentinel inherited from Mom), but those have an appeal. 👍
I agree! Fun gun is how I see this one as well.
I was just thinking, I hadn't seen one of the videos for awhile. Thank you for today's.
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@buffalosoutdoors I did!!!
I will be purchasing one of these. Fortunately I know an excellent gunsmith, and am willing to invest a bit of cash to have him fix that double action.
Having said that, I should mention that VERY few guns come out of the box with what I consider an acceptable trigger. I do a lot of trigger jobs myself using the excellent kits available from MCARBO.
My Sidekick shot super low as well. Had to shave off about 50% of the front sight to get it to hit center at 25 yards.
That sounds right in line with my experience!
Your honesty is outstanding as always thank you so much your one of the few left god bless you and your family stay safe
Thanks for the honesty review. I am certain I would never buy one of these, but it has its impressive features. 9 rounds for both cylinders is a big plus, and who doesn't like the feel of a bird's head grip. 😉😊
Thanks for the comment my friend. It does have some nice features but could use a little more refinement IMO. Unfortunately it seems refinement is expensive these days!
You know what they say: "A bird's head in the hand is worth two in the bushels" or something like that.
That is what we like about you, your honesty!!!
Thanks so much!
Thank you for the honest review.
Great shooting!
Thank you!
It’s amazing how many pounds the trigger pull is on some of the 22 revolvers.
You're meant to feel you're launching the bullet kinetically
due to the inefficiency of rimfire. takes a lot of energy to smash that rim.
Gotta love this guy.
I watch all his videos.
Hes as honest as they come.
I’ve got the sw 22mag revolver. 12 lb double action. I went with hammer model for just that reason.
Always like your videos buffalo 🐃
Great shoo-in pard!👍🏽😀❤️🇺🇸
Thank yee!
I forgot to wear hearing protection before you started shooting ! 💥
Now my ears are ringing.
Oh no!
@@buffalosoutdoors I had the volume turned up to loud when I watched your video.
Nothing wrong with the accuracy, yours or the pistol.
Hi Buffalo, the cylinder ejection that you demonstrated is a deal breaker for me. When I eject spent rounds I don't want to be fiddle-faddle around with the cylinder. That and a unpredictable double action trigger. Realy would like one but just too many draw backs. Appreciate you being honest about it eith your review. As always a great very snd thanks for all your hard work and time Sir.🤠
I tried to show everything that was relevant to me in the video. That means showing the bad along with the good. I am glad you enjoyed it!
Good shooting as usual.
Thank you!
Buffalo. Another good video. Looks like a fun gun to shoot especially with the two cylinders. Thanks for sharing and take care.
Thanks man!
nice shootin'
Dudes the double action is just for belly gun use, anything else you use it like a single action.
These are super cool I'm getting one, maybe one day a couple .22 mag shells are all I have and I get a possum or turkey for supper
For the price it's a gem !!!
Thanks for watching!
Personally, if I didn't have my Stainless Ruger Single-Six Convertible, that I purchased new sometime in the early 1980's, I would go with the New Ruger Super Wrangler. Single Action only, but that is just fine by me. Also the price is on par with the Diamondback.
I'm going to have to try one of those Ruger SW!
👍👍Thanks Buffalo, a very well done review.
I appreciate that and thank you for watching!
I have one of these. A local gunsmith did a perfect trigger job for me in lighten the double action pull. I didn`t ask him how but it looks like the factory one is still there so maybe he just cut one or two coils off of the spring but still able to fire the primer at the rim.
Nice steady hand Buffalo. Good shooting!
Thank you!
Reminds me of the High Standard Sentinel with the round butt grip and 3" barrel. Except the Diamondback's frame is made of Zamak while the HS Sentinel's frame is aluminum alloy, therefore is much lighter. The Diamondback's trigger is the deal breaker, unless it can be improved somehow. Thanks for the test and excellent video.
Thanks for watching!
You could keep it around for trigger finger workouts. You shot it well even with that crazy trigger weight.
NINETEEN POUNDS?!!!
I'm going to have to look at one of these, might be a good get home bag firearm. not too expensive that if someone breaks in and steals it, ill be crying
Hopefully that DA pull will wear in smoother. I would be disappointed in my purchase if it did not.
Good honest review, just what we expect from you sir. You are an expert shot. Thanks BUFFALO. LATER
Thanks so much for the kind words! I appreciate ya!
I have had the exact same issues that you mention on my standard model. I bought one after seeing what I thought was a fair review when these were first released. That person did not mention the issues of the absurd double action. I could not believe how bad it was. I have almost never ever got it to fire properly with double action. However it does fire most of the time single action. Although I have had a lot more FF than you did apparently. Out of a 200 round box I bet I had at least 25 FF it is also CCI Mini-mags. a very reliable ammo. I was hugely disappointed with this firearm. I will never ever purchase from this company again.
Thanks for leaving your comment. Sorry you had such a terrible experience. This is the reason I try to cover the good along with the bad when I do a review type video so people can set their expectations appropriately. Problem is most times I only have one sample and I can only report on how that particular sample performs, so I can't catch everything but I can give a usable piece of the puzzle.
That 19lb trigger pull kills it for me with Arthritis . Bond derringer isn't that bad. Everything else seems passable A windage adjustable rear sight might help. Super Wrangler in single action looks better.
Maybe replacing the springs or altering them in some way can improve the trigger.
@@PassivePortfoliosIt can but that issue should have been fixed before it left the factory. We don't mind spending money to refine something for our personal taste but not for an almost 20lb trigger pull that shouldn't be there. It's principle!! 😂
@@PassivePortfoliosits pretty standard with rimfire revolvers, it takes a lot to set them off
@@NeekoKid - I have quite a few and the better ones have smoother trigger pulls than others. H&R/NEF got around this problem by making massive hammers to ensure ignition. Trigger pulls are decent for cheap revolvers. Taurus .22 LR revolvers have some of the worst triggers and S&W probably the best.
And it's not just a heavy pull. It's very inconsistent. I can deal with a heavy trigger and shoot it well. I can't do much with something that stacks sometimes and doesn't others. And you're absolutely correct, the DA on this is not for those with compromised hand strength. Wish I'd have said that in the video. Thanks for the comment Bill!
thanks for another great review as always.
My pleasure! I'm just glad to be here!
good vidio
That DA pull sounds about as bad as the Polish P64 I bought years ago.
It's pretty terrible.
neat little revolver
Thanks!
I'm sure glad you posted a video, I have been waiting and waiting. 😁😁

Hope you found the video helpful! Thanks for the comment.
I missed this video when it came out. To bad the double action is not great. 9 shots of 22 mag is pretty good. Lots of blast but, hey. I wouldn't mind having one. I am just a suckered for old west styling. Happy New Year.
Thanks for the heads up, because I was seriously considering buying one but I’ll stick with my rough rider. I only wanted it for the double action and the swing out cylinder but I can just hold on to my other revolvers for that.
Exactly what I thought too.
Glad you found the information in my video useful in your decision making! That's why I try to cover the good and the bad when I do a review type video so people can have realistic expectations and make an informed decision. Thanks for your comment!
My charter arms trigger was like this
👍🐿👍 Squirrel gun Wednesday. ❤
HAHA! That's right!
A trigger straight from Stephen King!! Great work Buffalo. Been having a hard time with the withdrawal man. Thanks for the fix buddy!!
It sure is a horror story lol! Thanks buddy, be seeing a lot more from me soon!
Excellent review Buffalo! Thanks to you, now I want one. 😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Seems like a good deal even with the few rough spots !
I feel like it's priced fairly for what it is. I just wanted to show the good and the bad so people would understand what they are getting. Thank you for the comment!
I dry ran mine 2500 pulls on the trigger with an eraser blocking the firing pin, before taking it out.
Cleaned it up with carb cleaner and lightly sprayed it with wd40.
It runs much better now, but as you said the trigger is unreliable.
Does not STACK well.
I cleaned up the pull on my full size model by working the action like you did and I got good results too. Brought the pull weight down several lbs. Thanks for the comment as I sure appreciate it.
Nice gun and excellent review.
Thank you!
@@buffalosoutdoors my experience with those two cylinder cheaper guns hasn’t been that great. They sort of seem like they cheaped out the engineering to fit two cylinders, but, as you pointed out, they do go bang. I tried the heritage and didn’t like it. Guess I’m a gun snob. I do have the Ruger 38/357-9mm two cylinder however and like it quite a bit. Very nice SHTF gun but not cheap.
Most .22 double action revolvers have heavy trigger pulls to prevent light primer strikes but 19-20 lbs is way excessive.
RIght. And also there is a difference between a good trigger with a heavy pull and a rough trigger with a heavy pull. I can deal with heavy so long as it's consistent.
Great review, looks like a fun little plinker. I think I prefer the style of the original that you reviewed awhile back but I always was a sucker for "cowboy guns".
I have a high standard double -nine natchez with a birdshead ivory handle which I bought 5 years ago from my boss for $150. He bought it from a guy who worked for him for $150. The guy had a match set of double-nine's. The sidekick is the clone of those guns but with the interchangeable cylinders.. My natchez was made in the sixties.. It, like the sidekick has a really heavy double action trigger, so diamondback kept that right..
I need this gun like I need a hole in my head, but I want one, but I'm "NOT" crazy bout the 1 year warranty..
CS is a big factor. I've dealt with some really good CS departments and some REALLY bad ones.
Very informative. Buffalo I won't be getting one. It's not your fault. You were honest about what you said to me. 300 and some dollars is big bucks to pay for your something that shoots low which you can bring it up. I know file it down but if I did that I end up messing something up. Thanks for the info. We'll see you next time
Thanks for the comment and I'm glad the video helped you make a decision. That's ultimately why I do review type videos. I want to give people real world information.
Always look forward to your videos Buffalo.
Thanks so much! If all goes to plan you'll be seing a lot more videos from me soon!
Hey Buffalo! Charter Arms makes a 7 Shot 32 H&R Mag revolver with a 3” barrel, only problem is there are hardly any RUclips videos on it. 32 h&r mag can be a pretty powerful, is this gun as suitable for personal protection as a USCCA spokesperson says it is? What does Buffalo’s Outdoors think of it???
I haven't tried the Charter Arms revolver but the .32 H&R Magnum is a good cartridge in my opinion.
I agree with you on dry firing. I don't do any of them I have and certain ones like ruger's SR22. As long as you got a magazine in there, you can drive fire unloaded magazine but I don't drive fire any of them. I have a 597 Remington rifle did I relax a trigger when I do on that one? Is I pull the bolt back a little bit and let just like not hit nothing and it'll click and take it off the spring but anything other than that if I do it I usually stick a wall anchor in it. I'm too cheap to buy snack caps lol. Good video. You covered everything you did to the other one and with the newer different on the new one. As usual, Y'all have a good day
I have one I think it is ok for the price . never failed to fire so far . Good gun to have in the farm truck or tractor just don’t care if it gets messed up 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
I agree with your assessment. They are priced fair for what they are.
I've been waiting for this one to migrate to California, but after seeing this review I might not get it
Not all of them may be like this one but I wanted to share the issues I found with it.
nice 22 revolver. i think it's double action too.
Yes.
Have not seen these in gun shops in my area. Northeast Tennessee.
Ill be oicking up one of these or a super wrangler, probably whichever i stumble on first. I like the sights and aesthetics of the ruger, but 9 shots is better than 6.
I like the way you think!
Thanks for your review, I'm very intrigued by this gun. I love my .22s. Perhaps Diamondback will work on that trigger. I assume you provided feedback, have you heard anything back from them?
Nice video, Buffalo. Great to see another new video!! Keep up the good work!!
Yes Yes! You know it brother!
Glad to see you back 🙌🏻
THanks it's good to be here!
I think I'm gonna try the standard model. It would work great when I'm in the Jon boat fishing.
Would be good for that!
It almost looks like a Colt 1877 from 10ft away. I hope they make a longer barrel version in the future.
If they continue to expand the lineup I'd guess that a longer barrel one would be next but who knows. Thanks for watching!
Thank you. Another great video..
I’m glad you enjoy them!
Dang. That’s a heavy girl. Thanks for the review, it seems like a good gun, but they seriously need a lighter version. Do you know if they are going to release different finishes?
I don't know what finishes will be available.
I kinda dig it. Has that heritage barkeep vib with double action and way easier unload and reload.
That's how I view it as well. Thanks for the comment.
@@buffalosoutdoors what's the msrp on them.
I have a 1965 Colt Frontier Scout 22Lr./22mag that I got when my dad passed on don't use it much I have many others but it's a nice gun. If I were looking for a .22 wheel gun that sidekick would work.
If I didn't already have a Ruger single six, I would buy one of these - or maybe just trade in the Ruger and get one of these.
OK Diamondback 😆👍
Bellissima!! 💋💋💋💋❤❤❤
Yeah! Wheelgun Wednesday! Would be a good challenger for the Ruger, wrangler line, or the heritage revolvers if it was a decent trigger pull. At least the single action pull is decent. I’m betting that cost point on this is pretty low (as is point of impact lol)
Yeah they have it priced fairly IMO.
Hey assh.le be glad and thank God you didn't end anyone. In.pt!
Speaking of assh.les, how ya doing!🖕
Thanks for sharing your review of this gun. You are an excellent shot to be hitting anything with one of these. I bought one recently, and it is the most inaccurate revolver I have ever owned. Mine has some of the same issues you are having in addition to the inability to eject shells in the 22 lr cylinder. I have a return shipping label and am getting ready to send mine back. Unfortunately, I am not optimistic that the gun is fixable to suit my liking. Even more, it should have never passed QC before leaving the factory in the first place. Nonetheless, I bought it and am stuck with it. I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS GUN TO ANYONE! It is a $175 gun with a $300 price tag. No offense meant to your review, though. You did an excellent job hitting with it. My first shots off the bench were keyholing with about a 15" group at 10 yds. Stupid bad accuracy. Thanks again for sharing.
Have the standard , just ordered the birdshead. Are the cylinders interchangeable between the two ? Good video as usual.
Great review! I have been looking for a high cap 22mag for my hunting bag and this looks like a good candidate! I dont think I'll have an issue with that trigger in da with my sasquatch sized mitts!
Glad you enjoyed the review and thanks for the comment!
Here's your neighborly algorithm offering
Much appreciated!
Great to see ya again Buffalo! Looks like it would be fun, but the crappy double action would be a deal breaker for me even at that price point. I shoot DA only in my DA/SA revolvers. That’s how my Dad trained me on revolvers 👍
Good for you, that's how I prefer to do it as well but the DA was very hard for me to shoot well with on this one!
Totally understand and even with adversity you made it look fun as hell! 😀👍
Mr Buffalo,
Which ear protection you using?
I use the ear muffs. Would like to just squeeze a foam in my ear for easier use and comfort.
Thx!
Great review. Thank you.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Looks like a fun plinker. I wonder if a trigger job could smooth out it’s double action pull.
I think it will lighten up and smooth out somewhat over time but I don't think it will ever be a consistent pull. Just my opinion.
My db has smoothed out quite a bit. It is a great shooter. Added a drop of oil here and there 👍
Earlier commenter said he had a gunsmith lighten the DA
I like the looks of the gun. You think a gunsmith could clean up the trigger and get it more user friendly for double action use?
Maybe some Flitz polish could iron out the double action?? If the DA trigger pull could be improved, I'd like to shave the hammer and have a handy little pistola !!
❤
👍😊 good review
Thanks!
Nice review. Those 22lr’s looked like black powder rounds with the amount of smoke in comparison to the 22mags.
I didn't notice while I was shooting but I thought the same thing when I was editing the video together!
They should just make these single action only with the same reload mechanism if the pull is that bad
Eagle Eye… great review. 🦅 Wonder if they DB have any comment on the manual change (re: counterbored/dry firing…). I would imagine they had some claims. 🤔
I don't know but that was the same conclusion I had!
Damn 19 pounds
...this Birdshead as compared to the 942....to have a 22 revolver for different purposes....what do some say might be the choice to make...??? I have the 856 [2"]....so am leaning toward the 942 [2" barrel] for the 22....what are some thoughts...???
Thanks for the very informative video. I am heavily considering getting the standard model Sidekick as my first ever firearm. I watched your old review about how it had 3 light primer strikes with the .22 magnum cylinder , have you had any more issues with it since? And would you recommend loading Federal Punch either in LR or WMR in the Sidekick?
