For added ease of access, I buy or find cannon ball crates and place them right beside the cannons. I start with the right side cannon first as the left is close to the barrel anyway. But this means that if there's a ship or megalodon or something on the right side, the cannoneer has 50 easy cannonball reloads before they have to start running to the left side of the boat. We restock them after encounters too to ensure that we're prepared for anything
@@itsyeesh7 even hopping around servers using the newly (well not super super new but definitely wasn't there during the first few years of SoT) implemented Dive mechanic works with this. What's an orbital broadside? Is that when you anchor them and angle your wheel so your ship circles them with the broadside always facing them like a moon?
For newer crews. When my crew and I would sail around it would usually be me and one other and no matter who I was sailing with I'd always be helmsman. They said its cause I was good so if your reading this and you want my advice for getting a job done fallow the triple A Attention: pay attention to what your crew are saying they might see something you dont Assist: if you have the time help the crew Act: be quick to take charge and get people on task This most often works with friend crews but I managed to do it on a 8 crew gal (long but fun story)
Was sailing with my gal doing tall tails and we came across a crew doing the same tall tail so we left my ship and just hopped on theres. Spent like 4 hours running around the server, we latter found my gal had been stollen by a brig crew and that led to a interesting fight. We would split loot 50/50. it was a interesting session
i solo sloop a lot and always find myself in the same situations. standard scenario will have me and the sloop coming up on eachother or turning into each-other. i turn my ship in a way ill usually have a good angle at the start. but for some reason the enemy players or player always ends up with a very good angle behind me for much longer. i can’t figure out how they get it. i’m guessing it’s something to do with me usually being the attacker but im not sure.
My friend who’s teaching me the game has me on the helm because I can’t aim for anything. That one about the sail ropes is really interesting, I’ll have to try it sometime
I played sloop so much that when the audio-que for water on the second deck hits, I instantly panic, no matter which ship I use. The exact same sound on the brigantine is still a bad sign, but not as bad as it is on the sloop. Made me panic a lot when playing with friends, after which they just get confused
Also, always be sure to pick up at least one cannonball crate. It provides immediate access to cannon balls so you don't have to completely reset your aim
Certainly important! If you feel more comfortable going against the community's grain, it's definitely worth playing your own tactic! However, there are still a good set of advantages to giving left side over the right side
I’m a professional sloop helm and it can seem like I’m taking care of almost everything on the ship at once I like it tho me and my cannon friend have a good thing going.
When you are two guys on a Sloop dock a connon rowie and you have 2 cannons to use makes the sloop much stronger PvE and PvP ;) just not forget to use it :D
Love the broadside angle reference, but no way in hell im keeping a supply crate out an about for my enemy to grab if they board. For me, supply crates are for quick transfer only, everything goes straight into the appropriate barrel so they can only take a little at a time if they try. My last servants vs. fortune fight ended very quickly because my opponent left all of their supplies that didn't already come with the ship in a single crate on their top deck. I killed him, yoinked that thing and swam away before he could respawn lol. (If their anchored, you could also try hiding it in their crows nest in case you can't make it back to your ship with the goods. If they're moving, the quickest option is to plop it in the ocean.)
As the first crack will always be on the right, that means that if you let your left side face the enemy, you can use the mast to prevent the helmsman from getting one-balled and allows them to be able to look at the enemy
And it doesnt affect the holes or the bailer as much wich side you choose on bigger ships too, thats why this is a sloop guide, not a universal helm guide.
I really don't understand tip #1. Why is it a benefit that the mast always gets damaged on the right side first? Why does being shot at from the left means you get knocked around less?
If the mast is damaged on the right, you can take cover behind it while repairing it. The stairs are also on the right side, so cannonballs hitting that side will damage you and knock you around more while you move about your ship. Lastly, the wall opposide to the stairs over the bed can't take a hole. That means the left side can take one less hole in total, and hits to that area will instead cause a hole right next to the captain's table, which is on the middle deck and thus way less urgent to fix.
How do I instantly equip cannon balls ? I always use my mouse and when I see videos on RUclips they instantly equip them without having to move there mouse
I dont keep supply crates on my ship. Last time I tried it I had someone board my ship and drop it overboard. One time a guy was being toxic, wanting me to lose on purpose cause he really wanted to keep his streak and he knew it was risky to fight me due to my skill level. I was giving him a hard time. He kept running and running and running, boarding me and dropping a cannonball crate off along with a supply crate of all my cannonballs, being toxic in the mic in an annoying voice "try shooting cannonballs without your supplies!" but little did that idiot know I could just look at the map, look where ive been, backtrack, and harpoon it. Next thing he knew I was firing at him again. He then threw a pity party and scuttled. Two hours well spent
One time we were being attacked by these Athena’s and my friend simple said keep the ship safe and hopped in the water with a storage crate. The max bastard got onto the enemy ship stole all their wood and food and jumped off and they didn’t see him because it was stormy
the mast getting hit doesnt matter what side you shoot from mate. the second hit will still break it regardless. doesnt change anything in combat what so ever to benefit you
it does, or else it would be a dumb tip, if your mast gets hit with a normal cannonball and you dont repair it just tells me that you want to loose fights
I strongly disagree with the storage crate. Any experienced player would just use it after killing u to take all ur cannons or wood so that u cant fix or shoot back
Ngl, the extra wheel sounds are more misleading than helpfull, its already hard enough for me to hear the first one, and since i dont use a flashy wheel that shows the thing glowing brighter than discord light mode, its just more annoying than anything
Turn off your lanterns always to hide yourself in distance at night and also to make it harder for other ships to be able to snipe or cannon you at night.

Holy shit, that point of reference for the broadside from the wheel is a game changer.
just thought the exact same thing 🤣🤣🤣
Ikr? I literally said "Ohhhhhhh, so THAT'S the Broadside" when I watched that part

Then there's port and bow which refer to specific sides

That bit regarding sail length and lantern to have cannon angle is super valuable, I'll have to see if it works for myself.
Left side sloop also has less holes. 7 vs 8.
It’s also closer to the cannonball barrel
In short, left side is just better. Right side is hard mode.

Positioning is key to every fight. Prioritize that above all else and you will win most fights.
the sloop grumble noise also happens as a glitch sometimes, however. it can also happen if you have your sails down while anchored
Omg that advice with Lantern and sail lenght Is amazing. Thanks

Yooooo the broadside tip is clutch that’s gonna help a lot because sometimes I think I got angle and my cannon is yelling at me to turn lol
Nice job on the video, as the helm of my duo i completely agree with all of these tips
I always put a supply crate on the right hand side. Easy access to balls and if they’re turning with us they’ll need to run and get more
Also, the helm on a sloop should always have a blunderbuss equipped and be on constant alert to knock off potential boarders.

Hey what kind of cannons are you using?
The golden sailor cannons! They were time limited for a couple of anniversary updates, so they might return in March!
Me and my friends call the rumbling sound of the water level rising the Groan of Death as it means you’re close to sinking

With the supply part, I don’t use them. Someone can steal your resources. It’s happened to me many times.
