Congratulations on the freeze dryer! Having it out there you will really need to pour any liquid items into the trays while trays are in it. Trying to slide in a tray of eggs or broth will make a terrible mess to clean up! If you didn't order extra trays, do it now while they are on sale. When your harvests come in you'll want to do a lot at once. Having the next tray ready to pop in, especially if you already froze the next tray saves so much time! Even freezing your trays in a freezer that's already running while waiting for something to fill that 4th tray to run a full batch saves time as you don't have to have the freeze dryer do it before it can then dry it. Your unit won't get a build up of ice and need to be defrosted before you can start the next batch either. The usefulness of a freeze dryer is almost limited to your imagination. If you freeze, can or save for later in the fridge so the food won't spoil, it can be freeze dried.
So many homestead channels have morphed into “bling” shows, really appreciate how you stay close to the land and make the most from materials on hand, you’ll are a great example to so many folks.
@@patprettyman3792, I think that the freeze dryer is a practical tool for homesteads, yes they are expensive but food preservation is very important, I have noticed some other channels that endlessly show off very expensive equipment that most homesteaders couldn’t afford, and I do appreciate how Mike and his family lives a much more simple life.
Mike you've done an excellent job updating the walk-in pantry. I admire your work and also that you recycled the old restaurant metal shelves. If everyone recycled materials the planet would be better off. Oh, I love that cheerful shade of green paint.Take care and God Bless.
I love the green. It's a "happy" color. You did a great job inside. Congratulations on the freeze right. I don't have one, but I've seen other channels who do, and they are so nice. God bless and keep you and yours.
I am very impressed with how you live in your yurt. It looks very comfortable and well organized for a small space. I love your somewhat newer couch. The kids seem very happy. I am amazed about how much you can process in your small kitchen. I loved when you redid the beds and added the wood stove and the (minisplit) heat pump to your yurt. I love your repurposed cool storage to a food pantry. You did a great job on that joint between the two sheet rock panels. Great, you got your green paint! Nice green! Really nice food freeze dryer! Thanks for sharing Mike and Lacie. God bless you.
I recommend setting that space heater at 50-55 in the winter. your squash and canned goods like that temp for storage. if you can scoot that wonderful freeze dryer to the left you will have a work table on the right; i love that green. it looks like spring
I like what u r doing with ur place. I'm an old lady (74) & I'm living is shed to home 14 X40 560 sq ft but I'm by myself my husband passed away 2 yrs ago that is enough room for the dog & I. I like it videos so keep up the good work
I am so happy you got a Harvest Right! Looking forward to seeing what you make! It has long been on my wish list! You made a smart move putting in a pantry for extra supplies! I pray we won't need them but wise to be prepared!
The farm I grew up on had a small house and we were a family of five. Two bedrooms upstairs was for mom and dad to have one, and us three sisters shared a double bed that was nearly the size of the room. Lol. Hooks along the wall kept our clothes. Some shelves dad put between the one wall and the chimney wall kept socks, and undies. My little brother slept on the couch in the living room. So I understand how a smaller home can accommodate a bigger family. When relatives from a couple hundred miles away, mom and dad took blankets to the hay mow and gave their bed to the visitors. Us kids too would go out to the barn. Warm piles of hay and thick handmade quilts were aliquoted. And we loved the smell of hay .
You don't have to get a bigger house. Yours is perfect. My family had a two-bedroom house and I grew up with 11 kids. We also had a garage where my parents slept in later on. I wonder if the freeze dryer is too hot when running in your pantry. The green wall pop, Mike....love it. Love that last tune too.
I was thinking the same about the fd. My daughter has hers in the garage and has problems in the summer. I don't have that problem, but mine is inside. I just noticed a small air-conditioner near the ceiling . They'll be fine
I watch y'all all the time, you are doing amazing! My husband and I are just cresting into our 50s but we always had a small house when our 3 kids were little. Looking back, it was so good to have the close quarters! At the time we always looked forward to having more space but once we got it and the kids became teenagers the closeness swayed. I'm glad we had the experience but I wish we would have stuck with the smaller space. We now are back to a smaller space and our kids are all on their own starting their families. We have been homesteading for almost 4 years, the kids and our grandbabies all somehow wanting to hang out here and do the farm things. It's amazing how just being small gets you BIG rewards. We have 30 plus laying hens, a fee roosters, one peacock, 4 goats (2 does due in early March, and 2 bucks), and 4 IPP feeder pigs. We have had our HR freeze drier for almost a year, I almost want to toss out the dehydrater! It's amazing what that thing will do for you! Tip: I juice fresh organic pineapple for the medicinal value. There will be alot of pulp left over after you strain it. Spread the pulp on trays and freeze dry it to add into rubs, etc. But, I found you can add it to the icecream when you're making it, amazing! We appreciate you putting your lives out there for us to see! Keep up the good work! I wish I had the confidence to make videos!
hey yall it's gabi my heroes 🥰 always working on new projects. you're right that now is definitely time to apply that "get 'er done" attitude. sending blessings 🙏🏾
The pantry come out awesome ,I love the pop of green . Definitely makes sense to have a out bldg for storage . I hope your friend Randy is doing well .
We’ve been living in a 300 sq foot tiny house for the last five years and now it’s my wife and I with two kids, things are getting cramped and I envy your 700 sq foot yurt! Just wanted to say i think you guys are awesome and I love your videos 👍
Love your yurt. It's an incredible space and absolutely perfect! More house more to clean and less time to get outside. Most of those people in large houses don't talk to each other. And a lot of them lost their houses in the 2008 crash. You are both very very wise. Love what you're doing with the pantry. Again very wise!
I have 192 sq/ft(12x16) with a full high loft so I can relate to your lack of storage. I store my home canned food under my bed. My winter squash and potatoes are stored in the loft too but it's usually just me so I make it work. Seems like all the channels I follow are getting freeze dryers... I could never afford one of those but really glad you could get one.
Who says all your square footage has to be connected? There is a delightful richness of space in your lives. Keep rocking the unique choices you have made!!
You did a awesome job on the pantry. I am not a fan of green but that shade of green looks beautiful. Thank you for sharing your homestead adventures with us. God Bless you and your beautiful family.
Good Evening @The Fit Farmer & Family! I just enjoy all of your videos. Your family is just Awesome! As for me, living on 1-2 acres of land has been my lifelong dream for well over 20 years. My relatives thought that I had lost my mind, (can you believe that)? But, time brings about a change, & Now they see that my ideal dream is something that they truly understand now, hahaha. You're the best family crew online because you're teaching your young ones skills & how to live & survival skills for life, be it if they decide to become city dwellers or not... The skills will always be with them forever! May The Most High God continue to keep you all strong, healthy & wise as a beautiful family unit... Oops, I almost forgot, Mike, Great paint job!! Shalom!
I think you did a great job on the drywall and I really like the color green you picked I think green shows the color of life because every living plant has some color of green and it definitely is appropriate in a pantry it also really lets the freeze dryer shine.
hey yall..I wanted to live in a yurt bke in the 80s and got literature on a few company's who made them.never did ..ppl are so rude to say that to you.i admire you guys..you have evthang u need xcept u can ditch the tv..when I was born in 48..mama & daddy didn't have a tv.he had a beautiful philco radio that stood on the floor..it had a Victrola radio inside..played 33 size records.mama named me after a lady named Portia Blake who was on a series called Portia faces life...hence my name...Portia..anyway I love your lifestyle..to me it's a piece of heaven..you're blessed..
Well done Mike. Your food pantry is going to be such a benefit and how you will feel full of pride having the pantry full with your grown fruits and veggies. Lucky having a wife so capable of p reserving. Awesome work little family.xx
We love our Harvest Right! I’ve had mine about 2 1/2 years and love everything I have preserved in it! Meat preservation is amazing. I always precook my meats-so much easier when using them.
I’m so thankful y’all are Believers is Christ! Some day, I’m gonna make a trip out there and meet y’all. I have YT friends in Asheboro as well. Some day 😃❤️
For a growing family that is producing their own food. I can see the equipment making life easier and sustainable. It's not for everyone and that's ok. But your pantry is putting mine to shame. I need to clean and organize it! You've done a great job Mike!
What your misses said about just buying an extra item and adding to the pantry is such sound advice. I literally started that way, just had a few dollars or hrs extra on a cheque and bought one bag of barley. Now I've had it were through rough times I've lived out of my pantry for weeks waiting for work to start up. I've told many people who always seem to say I don't have enough to start, just buy one thing you eat every payday. I've been at it for 16 years and I'm ok so far anyhow. If there's a will there's a way.
We were blessed to have 4 acres in Colorado and have been homesteading in a small cabin and outbuilding s for almost a decade. When the pandemic hit 2 of my adult kids with their spouses moved up as well. we have been breeding animals and growing produce and canning dehydrating ect. like crazy. Ive been meaning to build a shed for additional pantry room. Im loving yours! Keep going strong brother & sister!
I totally knew the green would be the pick! Green in there with all the food. It looks great and you guys can really use the space up! You all, I know you hate the house drywall, personally, I love drywalling and getting that done. I think Lacey is more the wood wall type? Am I right? Something she can paint or not and hang things easily, no drywall. We've always envisioned a loft area for the kids. Like we would totally roll down there and help you build a cool loft for Selah and the boys. But, again, it's your place and bigger is not necessarily better. Always wonderful to see you all growing and moving forward. Doing things that matter! Love y'all.
That green is perfect! Really makes it bright and summery in there. A freeze dryer is on my wish list. I grew up in a 12ftx60ft mobile home with my family (6), and now share a small home with my children (7 of us total). I would rather have a small house, and more land. You can expand a house, you can't always get more land.
I live in a small house and brought up my own 3 children plus foster children and over the years have had many of my kids friends live here. We had one bathroom and did just fine You learn to give up some of the things others think you need You do just great I love watching all your videos
DISHWASHER! We have a 2000 soft house and don’t have a dishwasher! Lol ours is an old home. And it needs lots of work. Really only main floor is useable right now. But we LOVE IT here!
I’ve had my Harvest Right for just over a year now. We’ve had it running almost all the time. The best is making extra of our favorite casseroles and freeze dry the extra.
@@heatherk8931 you have to experiment to get the correct amount of water per serving. Once you get it you write it on the rest of your packets. Yes they taste just like the original.
You’re going to love the freeze dryer. I’ve had mine for 7 months and it’s one of the best purchases I’ve made. Very nice setup, the pantry turned out great.
When I was a child, at one time we lived in a 2 bedroom house until I was 12 years old. No in door toliet and no running water. There were 8 of us at the time. My parents had one bedroom and us 6 children had the other. We all shared the same bed. The 3 girls slept at the top of the bed, 3 boys at the foot of the bed. There were always feet in your feet. We did just fine except when someone would wet the bed, then we all got wet. Then we would have to all get up change the bed, change our clothes and go back to bed. When I was 12, we moved into a 3 bedroom house and my parents had 2 more children. I have always credited our very close proximity for our closeness as a family. I am 67 years old, the oldest of the 8. We learned to share with each other at a very young age. We shared everything and protected each other. Family was everything. To this day, we are still very close to each. As adults, we don't quarrel. We are all different from each other, and often disagree about issues, even support different political parties, but we choose not to quarrel. If one has a problem, the rest close ranks around him and protect him and make sure that one, has what he needs both in help and support. My personal opinion is that families are just too spread out today. When everyone one has their own private room, they don't learn how to share and work out disagreements. What we learn from interacting with our siblings as children, carries over into how we interact with neighbors, friends, and coworkers as adults. I think you are so wise in how you are raising your children.
I love the way y'all are thinking about living space vs. storage and expansion. We are on a 1/4 acre in a subdivision and fight space constantly. Love y'all!
I agree with Lacey, I hate dry wall/sheet rock as well. The person who owned our place before hired a handyman to tape, and mud the drywall. That was 5 years ago, now the actual tape is coming up. We habe to remove the old tape, and mud to redo it all. Your pantry looks good. Love the green paint.
My best friend who died used to spackle and tape,,,,,,,,,, And he painted a wall green in the house we used to share,,,,,, This video brings those memories back💧
OH MY, I love that green paint! I work from home and have been looking for a color in my work space thats, bright, cheerful, fresh and inspiring. Good Job guys. Your friend Lisa
Family was closer back in the day. No one was trying to out best one another, and everyone worked together. They were rich in love and didn't worry about poor pockets. God bless you and your family
Good job Mike I love the green wall but I love wood walls more but you did great 👍and I definitely want my on freeze dryer we are about a hour away from y'all would love to meet your family sometime 😀 we have a small farm also chickens goat's dog's cats fruit trees and a garden sawmill now we are building a barn never-ending but we love it 😀 your family is very amazing 👏
OH GUYS I love the colour it is so similar to our house which the colour is called Cucumber Crush- fabulous & boy great job on that pantry. Loved that you re-cycled as well. I would love to buy a Freeze Dryer but my garden isn't big enough to supply me with that amount of food, it supply's a lot though for canning etc. Cheers Denise- Australia
I love the green! It looks beautiful guys! And I'm so happy for you all, especially on getting a freeze dryer! May the Lord continue to bless and keep you and your family. 😊
Wow Mike, I love what you have done to your pantry, 💚 love the colour aswell, it's going to look amazing one Lacey starts her freeze drying 👍 & your daughter is such a clever girl 💗 blessings to you all 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
It looks great! Love the fresh green accent wall. You’re right, too, total reliance on “food from far away” is unwise. We all need to grow more. The thing is that it doesn’t have to take a big garden to produce big returns. Relying on Yahweh’s way will keep us all fed.
Our family of 5 live in 988 sq feet. We want a freeze dryer, and just want to be sure it’s a right fit for our family. Please give us lots of freeze dryer info.
All the homesteading families I follow are investing in a freeze dryer. I wish they made one a bit smaller for us apartment dwellers with little space. Can't wait to see what you guys do with yours :)
Greetings from East Texas! Love the progress on the pantry. Excited for y’all with the new Freeze Dryer. I hope it meets all your needs and expectations. Blessings to you all this week
Love the green. My son had his room that color when he was a teen. I checked into the freeze dryers but I’m not prepared to spend 3000.00 on one right now. For now I’ll continue with my dehydrator.
My grandmother grew up in a 4 room house with her parents 2 brothers and grandparents. That is 9 people in a small 2 bedroom house. They did have a full basement and needed it because my great grandma raised animals and garden and canned as much as possible. My grandmother said during the depression they never went hungry and were able to help feed many of the neighbors. They had no money but they had food.
When I was growing up in the late 1940s and 1950s, our family of 5 lived in what was initially one room, kitchen, livingroom and bedroom. We had an outhouse. No running water in the house. Our first step at growth was when my dad bought a room made of plyboard for soldiers in WWII training. Finally, he built another room for a kitchen and bedroom for my sister.
We've had a freeze dryer since April and processed most of the garden. Also meat processed great in it. I like the green Mike. That is the color of my planters.

Ive been meaning to build a shed for additional pantry room. Im loving yours! Keep going strong brother & sister!
Love the green. I think you need to painting all the walls green. Love your beautiful home. 😍
Love y'all.
I was just thinking about you guys today! I hope you are well. Love y'all too!
I just ordered my freeze dryer! Happy Mother’s Day to me! Hope it helps you all out! ❤️🙏🏻
You said Joel 1 and every hair stould up on end and my eyes filled. Your right Praise God almighty see us through
I’ve had my Harvest Right for just over a year now. We’ve had it running almost all the time. The best is making extra of our favorite casseroles and freeze dry the extra.
I was wondering if after you freeze dried a casserole, have you tried rehydrating and eating one? Is it truly awsome yummy?? Thanks
You are such a sweet couple and family that I enjoy watching all your progress.
I love the way y'all are thinking about living space vs. storage and expansion. We are on a 1/4 acre in a subdivision and fight space constantly. Love y'all!
Ok last comment I promise. The freeze dryer. Omg! Major excitement! I'm so happy for you all.
My best friend who died used to spackle and tape,,,,,,,,,, And he painted a wall green in the house we used to share,,,,,, This video brings those memories back💧
I’m so happy y’all got that freeze dryer. Yay. Congratulations. 🥰
I am the youngest of 15 children. Our house was always packed! Fun times!
Well the green in the food pantry is fitting for the purpose! And I love it !!!!!!! Yall do a awesome job on the home stead God bless you all
I love the green. My husband and son hung the drywall in our house and I did all the taping, mudding and painting. Just don't look too close....
Very excited to see your freeze dryer, can’t wait to learn more!!
Nice food pantry. Looks good in green, it goes well with the Harvest Right. Keep growing!
OH MY, I love that green paint! I work from home and have been looking for a color in my work space thats, bright, cheerful, fresh and inspiring. Good Job guys. Your friend Lisa
❤️ the paint.. sheet rock it all…paint and frame the window (s)… including the roof… JS
Family was closer back in the day. No one was trying to out best one another, and everyone worked together. They were rich in love and didn't worry about poor pockets. God bless you and your family
I love the color! It’s so cheerful, and makes me think, BOUNTY!
Love that you keep it simple. And easy for you. Love you’re videos. Such a fun family.
Both of you are so inspiring. Great project and good ideas. Literally food for thought...
I’ve heard that freeze dryer is awesome. Herbs come out perfect. They don’t lose their color. You guys have done a wonderful job! Praise God.
Freeze dried is not fresh meat.
I love the green color. ❤️👍
Waww that room is full with BLESSINGS 🙏😘😘
I love the green! It looks beautiful guys! And I'm so happy for you all, especially on getting a freeze dryer! May the Lord continue to bless and keep you and your family. 😊
Wow Mike, I love what you have done to your pantry, 💚 love the colour aswell, it's going to look amazing one Lacey starts her freeze drying 👍 & your daughter is such a clever girl 💗 blessings to you all 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Congrats on the food freeze dryer. What a great tool for homesteaders (and others). I'd love to have one.
Someone is looking GOOD ! MOM , the glow on you're face says it all ! Good video you two. I love you're growth this last year, great job 👏
The pantry is coming along beautifully and the green accent wall is Great! Looking forward to seeing your wonderful freeze-dried foods!
In case it may help with your dream harvest rite gas a layway program so I've heard haven't checked it out yet but will soon
Finally, he built another room for a kitchen and bedroom for my sister.
i love the green color. it screams produce and garden life! love it!
You have done a fantastic job! I absolutely love your family and your smile. Blessings💚💚
We've had a freeze dryer since April and processed most of the garden. Also meat processed great in it. I like the green Mike. That is the color of my planters.
Love your food pantry, the great shade of green and the very nice job on the drywall! You guys are inspiring! Many blessings to your family.
