Mr mike i now how the ramp would fold up. Add a platform out the height of the ramp and add 2 " to the platform. Hing the edge of the platform and ramp to fold it up. And stick straps around it.

Love the idea of naked gardening. I'm hatching Easter eggers now. I want to raise them natural. Less inputs but still get eggs. Let the girls help with pest control in my garden
Thank you. We had to accommodate for when it is time to process our chickens. It is so much easier to grab them in this than the small chicken tractor.
You guys don't have coyotes, raccoons, weasels and other wild life? They can chew right through chicken wire. However, I really like the idea of ripping the 2x4's and how to prepare the feed. Thankyou for the great info.
We do have coyotes, hogs, raccoons and owls. For our breeder tractors we have them enclosed with a Gallagher electric fence with a solarizer. The fence is used as a first line of defense. Tractor is second. The bottom layer is hardware cloth so it will be harder to chew right thru. I do see your concerns though.
@@TheNakidGardeners thankyou for your response. I figured you guys already had something in place but wanted to bring it to your attention to be on the safe side. I love your videos but haven't had a chance to watch them all yet!
Excellent! I am thankful for all of the mobile chicken coops in one place! I'm leaning towards Justin Rhodes Chickshaw, because I'm a smaller person and lifting 80# bags of cement nearly killed me yesterday. Lol. And I love hearing people's experiences with harvesting meat birds the first time. I've never known life without it. It may sound weird and kinda morbid. But as kids, it was our favorite time of year. When grampa would ring their necks, we chased them til we caught them or they dropped. It was The Best Time as a farm kid. But quickly it turned to work because I had to help pluck the feathers. (By hand and hanging from the clothesline, if they made pluckers in the 80s we were too poor to know). Anyway. Thanks for a great video. Im Now a New subscriber and so blessed to have you pop up in my feed!
That's is great! Pops and his brothers hated doing farm chores. It was their lifestyle being a family of 12. My grandparents made it a chores instead of interest. Thanks for the feedback and coming along for the journey.
This made me think of watching my dad . He used to just walk out and grab a chicken and ring it’s neck and it would run around with its head off. As a kid it was funny to watch. I’m not sure if I could do it at age 60. I would very much like to start homesteading, but being a widow with a few disabilities, I’m not sure.
Today. Maybe you can use the bartering system. Raise some meat birds and find someone to process them for you then hive them some of the birds as payment. Search for someone first before getting the birds
We have high winds here in northeast Texas and even with the tractors half the original weight it has not blown away. Mike did mention a better way to secure the tarp that we are looking into.

I raise the chicks to half grown in a 7x7 half sloped coop and then they get turned loose in the neighborhood. They won't stay in the quarter acre 4 ft tall fenced yard .... they and the Roosters go where they want but come back to the roost at night. So they are organic Pasture raised in about 10 acres. They pretty much run over the back half of the trailer park.
Great question. We get layer and feeder feed from a local feed mill. We ferment all of our feed. From starter feed, pellet, crumbles, cracked corn, scratch. Whatever you feed your chickens you can ferment their feed

@@TheNakidGardeners ya. i do bio char and castings. use neem oil and bio soap along with fish protein for foliar spray. I use probloom mix and other organic fertilizers along with a compost tea that I aerate for 24 hours to activate the good stuff. I found something to help make the blight go dormant, which is peroxide (12 tbsp in 1gal of water for treatment and followed by next day with 20 drops tea tree oil, 20 drops rosemary, 20 drop peppermint, 3 tablespoons neem and bio soap, with 3 teaspoons of baking soda) As you can see it's quite a process and terribly frustrating when I try so hard to have living soil and grow organic and someone's shrubs blow death into my soil and food from over the fence. sorry for long winded response, but why i was asking. was hoping you or someone might know of an easier method for early blight. This method only treats and controls early blight and if not super bad, but if it spreads to rapidly before you treat it, things have to come up.

I thought about doing the amaranth micro greens size about a half inch size and you can pour the seeds in there in Man they grow like crazy in about three days… Looking for food alternatives other than buying just did Damour feed I get now so I think it’s important to come up with a different way to feed her chickens with more protein I give my chickens it moringa leaf which makes the yolks really good it’s Good especially when you boil them… I think having the bigger pen to get into his better so you can stand straight up still you’re been an over to get to your chickens… You’re gonna get old at some point..lol
Another reason why we selected this model of chicken tractors. We are empty nesters and build things as we age in place. Are you raising chickens currently?
When half of your incubated chicken eggs are roosters it becomes a necessity. Big motivators for us were many males, feed costs, and time doing chores. Bonus is the quality of the meat.
Take the feed that you are giving your birds or pigs. Soak it in some water. make sure the water is covering the feed or it will increase the chance of it getting mold. let it sit in the water for three days and then you can either strain the liquid or give it with the feed. We did a few videos about it on our channel

We were thinking about getting one of those but since we have four (and possibly more to build) it was best to purchase one set of wheels. At the time, and share them with the tractors.
Great suggestion though.
Mr mike i now how the ramp would fold up. Add a platform out the height of the ramp and add 2 " to the platform. Hing the edge of the platform and ramp to fold it up. And stick straps around it.
That sounds interesting. I might have to give that some thought. Thanks for the feedback
@@TheNakidGardeners your welcome. On the v part you can keep it together to jut put a bolt in the center of it and let it move loosely. When you do that platform make sure you bolt it to the frame so it would hold the weight.
I have to say I love the t 👕 so funny . I loved watching this video , homesteaders rock .
Haha appreciate it. I wear some silly shirts in our video from time to time.
Great video! Food for thought on our next chicken tractor build, thank you. Be blessed ❤️🌿
That's great! Do you currently have a chicken tractor?
@@TheNakidGardeners no sir. I don’t currently have chickens…we gifted our flock to couple who is just getting started, packed and gave away a couple truckloads of pots, composter, fencing, ect. Open house is on Saturday and we are heading back that way. Woohoo!
They seem like such wonderful people, just like your family. Thanks for sharing the vid with us.
I feel that we are. Thanks for the kind words
Those tractors ARE PERFECT, Mike! I just know you would have fewer losses In something like thAt. I didn't know Murray McMurray was selling american bresse, exciting!
I feel that the tractors are perfect for us. Some probably will like the Joel Salatin tractors. To each their own. You have to do what is best for you. Yes, MM has American Bresse.
Love the idea of naked gardening. I'm hatching Easter eggers now. I want to raise them natural. Less inputs but still get eggs. Let the girls help with pest control in my garden
There you go. It helps a lot when you do go naturally.
Everything looks great, including that barbecue turkey and corn.
haha Thanks I am known for being on a smoker. We smoke meats once every so often and then eat on it with sides throughout the week
I found them back when they were trying to get there ducks off the pond in the winter!! Lol Can’t wait to see y’all’s new chicken tractor!!
Haha that was a fun season (not! 😆). There are many versions of this chicken tractor. I love how Mike did his.
Man great to see my fellow black people gardening 😎👌🏾💯💯
Appreciate it!
Two of our favorite channels...thanks for sharing guys. We enjoyed.
Hey Chris and Tara! How are yall?
@@TheNakidGardeners doing good...being all jealous of your set up lol
@@ASimpleLifewithChrisTara yall have a nice set up as well too
I really enjoyed this video. The coops were nice, I like the walk-in versions better. The food looked amazing.
Thank you. We had to accommodate for when it is time to process our chickens. It is so much easier to grab them in this than the small chicken tractor.
Awesome, thanks for sharing their story.
Thank you for watching. We truly appreciate it.
Awesome. We are processing chickens at the end of the month too and we have 6 turkeys that will be processed in a few months!! Exciting!!!
That is great! what a blessing
"Gold Shaw Farm " uses a very similar ramp for his ducks. It's hard for them to climb up steep ramps.👍😉
Yes we know him as well and seen he had similar issues.
I love your videos but haven't had a chance to watch them all yet!
will be learning to dispatch chicken on thursday ....my egg guy just happened to be ready to harvest when i asked
Awesome! Good luck
Loved the video. Thanks for sharing
It was a great video
Very good video thank you for taking time to make content and share+
💪🏾
Hi everyone ❤️🙏. Great video.
They did a great job
Happy Mother's day Lacey💖💐
This made me think of watching my dad . He used to just walk out and grab a chicken and ring it’s neck and it would run around with its head off. As a kid it was funny to watch. I’m not sure if I could do it at age 60.
I would very much like to start homesteading, but being a widow with a few disabilities, I’m not sure.
Just start growing something. As far as the meat, maybe you could find some people locally that you could help raise out some birds.
Today. Maybe you can use the bartering system. Raise some meat birds and find someone to process them for you then hive them some of the birds as payment. Search for someone first before getting the birds
Great video as always! ❤️🙏🏻
Right?
DAMN....I wanna come visit lol....good people are magnetic
I’m totally impressed, but worried about high wind areas I have
We have high winds here in northeast Texas and even with the tractors half the original weight it has not blown away. Mike did mention a better way to secure the tarp that we are looking into.
Oh wow you were in my neck of the woods. They are about 45 mins to 1 hr from us lol.
That was back in the beginning of April. We were moving fast through there on our way home from Utah. We wish we could have done some meet ups along the way.
@@MikeTheFitFarmer that would have been fun :D

Awesome set up
Thank you.
I absolutely love this video and I love this couple where that you're at and I will be following them too thank you so much love y'all
We appreciate the kind words. Thank you
I raise the chicks to half grown in a 7x7 half sloped coop and then they get turned loose in the neighborhood. They won't stay in the quarter acre 4 ft tall fenced yard .... they and the Roosters go where they want but come back to the roost at night. So they are organic Pasture raised in about 10 acres. They pretty much run over the back half of the trailer park.
I wish I could raise mine like that. The fox and raccoon would eat mine.
Great clip....
Yes it was
Enjoyed that 👏👏👏🇬🇧
Glad you did we did too
What type of feed are you fermenting? Corn, pellets, scratch?
Great question. We get layer and feeder feed from a local feed mill. We ferment all of our feed. From starter feed, pellet, crumbles, cracked corn, scratch. Whatever you feed your chickens you can ferment their feed
@@TheNakidGardeners thanks for the info. I have the most finicky chickens ever so maybe this will encourage them to eat as I am wasting lots of food and $$
I am going to check there channel out,,,,I will say I will subscribe
Thank you for you act of kindness
Loved the video...but.why the pipe bender?
That is a special electrical conduit bender or the arches for the meat tracctor
They have some pretty chickens.
They are very beautiful. And calm. Great forgers.
Looks really good
Thanks! We appreciate the kind words
I'm subscribed to you and The Nakid Gardeners, L💕ve both channels! Even an old hand like myself can learn new tricks!
I grew up growing and butchering our own, I don't enjoy the killing, it's just part of it, I believe in a fast kill, so there is no pain or suffering. I have no problem harvesting to feed us, I know what I raise is for that purpose. I Do Not Condone Trophy Hunting, I hunt to feed us, that's how I was raised.
Yes, I have a hard time as well with processing any animal. We say a little prayer to give thanks to God and to the animal. Thanks for subscribing and watching. We truly appreciate you.
what do they do for blight
On our tomatoes? We never get much diseases on our plant leaves. We prune them from the ground above 12". We make sure to have healthy soil. And spray aerated worm/compost tea on our plants.
@@TheNakidGardeners Yeah i have done that as well. unfortunately i live in a small city and the hedges outside my fence line are infested with it. Spread to my nightshades, and various flowers. Had to pull up 30 potato plants and several flowers and succulents already. Thanks for responding to me.
@@taneesescu sorry to hear. Do you do any vermicomposting? Or composting?
Very Nice video Mike, I really enjoyed it.
A great showcase it was.
Damn we can’t have that here in Boone co due to extreme wind 💨,
Maybe you can do close the ends with plywood, and secure the tarp better. If you follow Justin Rhodes, remember don't say "can't " but "how".
That was awesome!
Thank you. We are glad that you enjoyed it
Nice Video.. I'm subbed to them as well.. Yall rocking it... Keep up the hard rewarding work..

I lived on the country farm eating farm chicken, I moved to city for 30 yrs, at the age of 4, my boy helped me cut up whole chickens and organs from the city market.
That's awesome. Congrats
Awesome yall

Tip...
Light weight is usually best. It is OK to experiment and LEARN to build from your 1st chicken tractor to your 4th.
Yes. We are constantly improving these lovely tractors. Think we built our best one yet lately.
What would you say to somebody who lives in an urban type area? I live in a neighborhood in New Orleans and I want to start some egg laying chickens. Any advice?
How many eggs a week does your family eat? What is the size of your backyard? Are you able to have a certain amount of chickens?
Great video guys! I have been struggling to find a local mentor. Hopefully I will run across soon.
It great to have a mentor. When I was working in GA we had one there that got us interested in homestead. It just continues to grow our interest.
Where are you located? Maybe we can help you find one.
@@TheNakidGardeners I am in Stoneville NC!
Just shared your page in a FB Chicken group as people were asking about fermenting chicken feed. You all inspired me to get started! Only thing lacking at the moment is the "starting" part. 🤣 I am dying to get some Bresse, can't wait to see your results with them.
@@techdivaful yes. We did a few videos about fermenting feed. There are quite a few content creators that are in NC along with I belive some nice co-op groups.
We just processed those Bresse in the video. The ferment corn did not marble the meat like it said it would but the flavor....AMAZING! We will definitely continue to grow these breeds.
@@TheNakidGardeners There are a lot of great Homesteaders/Farmers in NC. There's one here local but he's just to busy to mentor me right now. I understand I can watch Joel's and Sow the lands videos and probably make my way through processing. My problem is, I feel like I owe my chickens a clean death and I am not sure I can do that without being exposed to the process first hand. I may just have to get over it.. As I add to my Flock the rooster numbers grow 😂 Someone is going to need to go I to the pot sooner or later. Thanks so much for replying, it's encouraging. Wanting to homestead, especially single can get lonely. I have a day job but there's nothing like having people around you can geek out about regenerative farming methods.
@@techdivaful haha that's how chicken math starts. Trying to get enough hens to meet the needs of the rooster and his flock lol. Well, I not sure if we can be much of a mentor but we can teach you the lessons and experience we encountered along the way. Definitely get some hands on about sending the animals off to freezer camp.
I do think it's important to think about growing your own food for your animals. Now before it becomes an issue to get feed.
When half of your incubated chicken eggs are roosters it becomes a necessity. Big motivators for us were many males, feed costs, and time doing chores. Bonus is the quality of the meat.
Love the tshirt😆😆😆😅😅😅
Haha I wear silly shirts when we do our videos
Enjoyed the video
Thank you. Glad you found enjoyment in the video. Thanks for stopping by and watching.
Great video!

So now you are rich...good i am so happy for you
How do you ferment the feed.
Take the feed that you are giving your birds or pigs. Soak it in some water. make sure the water is covering the feed or it will increase the chance of it getting mold. let it sit in the water for three days and then you can either strain the liquid or give it with the feed. We did a few videos about it on our channel
We have four male ducks. Trouble. But we do gave a creek in back. ...
Let Josiah build it
Haha that would be great!
