Farming is extremely hard work. People have this vision of some dude in overalls feeding chickens. Nope. I had lots of friends that were farmers. During harvest they would work from 4 am to 9 pm of hard labor. You have to be born into it to really do it well and make it profitable. I have the most respect for farmers. It’s work I couldn’t do. If these people can do it God bless them and I hope they really succeed and thrive.

@Life with Lex, as a African American who just got started into gardening, i can attest there is something rejuvenating to the spirit when you get your hands in soil, so I fully know how you feel and to think these people are doing it and making a modest living doing it and seeing the joy in their face is priceless. How they are working with one another instead of against one another is also spirit building, MAAT.

I so applaud this family not just for doing this, but how they are doing this. Not only are the rejuvenating the land but they are also by example of who they are personally showing that going back to the land is also rejuvenating the spirit. For many African Americans ( I am one) farming can be seen as a negative giving the history of agriculture where it pertains to African Americans, they are showing that yeah you can do it for yourself and make a modest living and be happy doing it, PROPS UP TO THEM!!! I know many people wont understand the last portion of my comments and that is okay, but it is all factual. To Heifer USA, thank you for presenting this video, to many people in the USA have bought into the notion that we have to have large scale agriculture in the USA, and that because we have large scale agriculture food is cheap. Never once do they think about how our food system is controlled by 6 large corporations and that we are beholden to them for food prices, my opinion if states would mandate no more suburban sprawl we could get a lot more small farmers in the country.

Thank you for your honesty and kindness. 😊
Right now, as we speak, in all the local supermarkets in Miami (Walmart, Publix, etc) the organic chicken area is empty and the inorganic chicken section is semi-full. There is a major awakening in the consciousness of the people. We need more regenerative farmers like this family.
We agree, Abraham!
@@HeiferUSA I wonder how we can join forces to push this movement. I am a software engineer that specializes in the web and I have done some mobile development as well.
As a naturalized American your example/independence and entrepreneurial drive make my 20 years of military service. You are great examples of Americans who I can introduce to my children-- without the hyphenation before America. Semper Fi from Los Alamos N.M.
Thanks for watching, Edward!
Thank you for watching!
Need 350 Million LIKES for this post. Thank you fellow American.
Thank you for your Service! USAF 24 years!
Wow! This is exactly what my boyfriend and I wanna do after getting married. The farming business and we want a huge farm. Yours is exactly the perfect size and structure. Only difference is that we want plant and animal farming. We also want a huge family, 6 kids at most lol. Hope it all works out🤞🏽! You guys are a great inspiration. I'm glad I watched this and will definitely show him😄. I'm in South Africa by the way✌🏽
We're so glad to hear that you're interested in regenerative farming! It's great to see that those dreams are possible, and even profitable! Our channel has videos on both raising livestock and managing organic gardens, so check out our other videos for tips, ideas, and more!
Great dreams you have! Farming and big families are two of God’s many blessing for us in this life (plus they go together well)
This is great. I've learnt a lot from you guys we will replicate this in our small farm in Kenya.. quite inspiring. Thank you
Thank you!
Thank you so much! Best of luck in implementing regenerative methods on your farm. Be sure to check out our other videos for even more guides on regenerative agriculture!
Wow, there is hope for the USA with people like this. Regenerative agriculture, faith based, home schooling! If only I were much younger, and in better health, you would be a role model I would emulate.
Thanks for watching, Mike.
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful story. This gave me extra motivation to honor my mother's memory by growing my own food on my land. She always wanted to do it. Cancer took her life at the early age of 54 years young:( (before she got a chance to). This video was uploaded on my birthday so this gives me confirmation:) Wishing you and the Jackson's continued blessings and success in all that you do. Stay safe and healthy!
What a wonderful way to honor your mother! Let this be the sign you've been waiting for: Regenerative agriculture is for you!
Thank you for sharing your story with us. We'll continue to make content about regenerative agriculture that will hopefully inspire others in your position.
@@HeiferUSA Absolutely and my pleasure:) Stay safe, healthy, and blessed!
"How can a chicken farmer run out of chickens?"
I used to ask myself questions like that on a wide variety of subjects! Now, I just shake my head! I can so relate!
Exactly!
It's so good to see this couple invest their time and money into farming. It's great to see that farming is growing. I also have a small farm. I've raised hogs for 15 yrs and gardened for 30 yrs
I'm also a single parent and raised my two children in this manner.
That's awesome! We're so thrilled that regenerative agriculture is gaining momentum in the United States. It's the future of farming and food systems!
@@HeiferUSA You are so right and I would say your commitment to home schooling could be called Regenerative Education instead of the divide and conquer which seems to be the agenda in too many government schools.
I love to visit this farm ,hear their stories and import the knowledge in Africa . Africa needs this kind of resilience, the passion and the hard work put in this effect . Thank you .
You are welcome! thanks for watching.
I moved to Georgia from New York to grow my own food this summer I had over 70 tomatoes plants and many more things it's hard but the peace of mind it brought to me is priceless
Awesome! We are releasing a huge video project on growing tomatoes soon! Stay tuned ;)
5 kids and a new farm. God bless them
Thanks for watching!
Very inspiring and motivational. And I would be lying if I didn't see the fact that they are black.... made me proud. Bravo in showing us that with determination, belief in yourself and great stewardship...it could be done!
Seeing their brown faces made me click on the video.
Thank you for watching!
Thank you for watching !
Not black and made me proud. Of what the human species can do. These are models for all us mere Sapiens.
What an amazing family and story. I love how they fertilize the pasture. Minimal effort just wheel the cage its own length and fertilize another patch. They are happy.
We love the Jacksons' story. It's inspiring to see how seamlessly regenerative agriculture can be incorporated into the life of a busy family!
Ugh, I loveeee the way that little piglet sat there while getting a bath 😂 soo adorable
Pigs love water! Thanks for watching
I just subscribed and saw your video and i was hooked on what you are doing. My son and i have been watching all the videos from Joel Salatin to Justin Rhodes, The Fit Farmer, Perma Pastures Farm and on and on. But I was attracted to what you said and what you are accomplishing. I look forward to learning from you. Thank you!!!
Welcome to our channel! We're glad to have you! It's so encouraging that regenerative agriculture is gaining popularity. Let's make positive impact on the soil and the earth together!
Be sure to check out Greg Judy. He is another great grazier.
Hysterical! When I said we're getting chickens, my wife thought I was joking too. There's a lot to relate to here... lol
Thanks for watching!
😆
So proud of you all. Happy for your family and your way of life. May the good Lord keep you now and forever. God bless. Larry.
Thank you, Larry!
Love this we need to heal the land while creating food for communities
Yes, we do! That's our mission here at Heifer USA, and we hope to inspire others to do the same.
Thanks, Tea!
I just love these people!!! They are so inspirational to beginning farmers. Hardworking and dedicated to the family!
Derrick and Paige have such a wonderful, inspirational story! We're glad you enjoyed :)
I'm so glad this showed up in my feed. I would love to have a farm, even if it's just to feed my family. May God continue to richly bless you all with much success.
Wonderful!
More of this!!! Got tears of joy in my eyes.
More to come soon ;)
I think how a farmer eats, looks and feels says a lot. This looks amazing.
Thanks, Chloe!!
God Bless you and your family! This is what we need to see more of in our community.
We agree! The more regenerative farmers, the better!
I love to see those chickens outdoors and happy.
So do we! Thanks for watching Whitfield!
Blessings to you all on this success in regenerative farming! Very inspiring!
Thank yoU!
Thank you!
Those children will learn more on that farm than any classroom! God bless you.

Shared this with a few friends and family members. Love the down-to-earth, 1, 2, 3, 4, of the video.

My husband is a 4th generation farmer and we love this story. We are both working on the same thing.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Starting a farm business is no easy task, but with a supportive community and a solid business plan, you can do it!
Hey Artisha, Congratulations on the success. What do you farm?
@@grassgrazed we farm corn, spy beans and wheat. We both grow up on farms so we know the hardworking it takes.
Love the positive attitude by you guys.
Go big or go home.
I probably would've started with 1 chicken.
All the best to you and your family.
Thanks, Daryl!
The farm to fork lady is very wholesome 🥰
Thanks for watching, Jerome!

Glad to read all the responses from people of your race saying you are an inspiration to them. I must add that this is an inspiration to all people. Keep on going, we need farmers.
Thank you for watching!
My heart loves seeing this, THANKYOU BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE FOR SHARING YOUR JOURNEY WITH US♥️♥️
AWESOME! :)
That’s the beauty about the internet you can make a go of these new and challenging ideas. So many first-time farmers out there now. Keep it going. Small farms solve many things.
Thanks!
when i first started watching i thought that this was a expensive operation when i saw the chicken tractors. then during the video he said he made them. good job. best chicken tractor ive seen,
Regenerative farming can be done on any budget, as long as you're clever, creative, and willing to build things yourself. Derrick and Paige are great example of ingenuity in regenerative farming!
I started my pigery farm at the the younger age and now I owned about a commercial farm. Everything in this world is all about passion. Now I'm getting marry next year and I'm confident that my wife will have some income
Wow this is amazing I’ve recently gotten into growing my own food and I feel so connected fast forward to find out my ancestors were farmers and gathers to see this family succeed in farming is so heartwarming and this is close to home currently in Raleigh
Growing your own food is a great way to connect to the land and the people and animals who have inhabited it before us. And when growing food regeneratively, we can ensure that the land remains healthy enough to provide for the generations to come! Thanks for watching!
I am really happy that younger generations are moving out of the city and start farming. True independence. I fully believe big cities remove our sense of community and drive use to insanity. Everyone should watch mouse utopia. Reminds me of the decay of our big cities in the US.
Everyone's ancestors were farmers and gatherers... thats what makes us human...
Thank you. I have always wanted a small farm but never had the money nor knowledge. I once worked on an egg farm, hated it. 3 birds in a cage big enough for one small bird. Thank you for your service Sir.
Superb job. Very inspiring. Reading from Nairobi, Kenya 🇰🇪
Awesome, Thanks for watching, Nkosi!
The farmers concord and the farmer's co-op is the golden ticket to bringing proper food back to the consumer. This video was very inspiring. Bravo
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it. Sub for more great content.
We are long term supporters of Heifer. I am glad to see them upping their RUclips presence! What a great family to feature!
This needs to be taught in schools. For real. This was so good and they are super inspiring!

Congratulations guys, follow your dreams to the pot of gold. Haha . And y'all are doing our future a massive favor by helping to educate the future farmers of America. And Derrick love that chicken tractor. Maybe patent that and make a video on that thing
Thanks so much!!
Thank you!
I have been a farmer for most of my life I now work for an auto motive plant and I would have to say you guys are awesome keep it up absolutely inspiring
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you Derek and Paige. You two are truly inspirational ❤ Sending love from Michigan. I too will be starting a farm. Im not sure I want to stay in my state or move elsewhere but thanks to you im pretty sure it'll be a Regenerative Farm. The tips you provided will help tremendously. Will be sharing this!
You can do it!
Thanks, Mike!
I applaud you and your family! We have started a small dairy farm in the Dominican Republic. Lots to learn but lovin' the journey ~
Thanks for watching! Best of luck, Linda!

Thanks for watching and best of luck!
Thanks for watching!
To pull this off with 5 kids is amazing!!
Truly! The Jackson kids seem like great helpers, as well!
Well done, good for you guys. Very inspiring to see what you have accomplished. Taking care of a livestock operation is a lot harder than most people realise. Improving your soil and the health of your community while making a profit, is what regenerative agriculture is all about. Kudos to you for following your dream.
Thank you, sir!
Am planning on retiring on a homestead in West Africa and really impressed with your advice am glad RUclips algorithm brought this to my feed
so glad you enjoy our channel! Welcome aboard!
This is so inspirational! And I love that they share their process from start to now.
Awesome, so glad you enjoyed it, Jacinda!
Love Paige and Derek! We were blessed to attend church with them when they lived in Texas and have enjoyed watching their farm grow and become successful. I love their philosophy and heart for encouraging others.

Loved your story

I got to meet Derrick at a hog harvest class at bakers green acres last fall. He’s a great guy and I’m excited to see what he’s been up to!
The Jacksons are just wonderful! We're so thrilled to share their story.
Thanks man! Appreciate the support.
This video was speaking what me and my little brother were and still are aiming for over a decade ago. We too had registered to lease an allotment some 15years back however they no longer profer that space in my local areas. We have since made other plans for our sme dream and look forqard to continuing on that path.
I wish you the best of luck in your ventures. Thanks for sharing.
Peace
We hope this story provides inspiration and ideas for your dream farm! Best of luck to you, too!

That's amazing! You have inspired me to get my homestead built. I have 10 acres and chickens are in my near future. I put my order in. My homestead is in the foothills of California. That's such a fantastic future for families.
Congratulations on starting your homestead! We're rooting for you! 💙
Love the message I believe in what your doing

Thanks Paul
Great family and community. It's great to see this type of farming being successful. Need more farm operations like this, and get away from corporate farming and packing. Many blessings to these farmers 🙏.
We agree! Thanks for watching, Justin!
