Such beautiful ladies, obviously wealthy. Lovely faces, gorgeous gowns, clean, beautifully dressed hair and such clear healthy looking skin. And I live their earrings. May they all rest in peace.
Now I truly love these types of people from the Victorian era...
So pretty at 2:40! Gorgeous complexion; blue or hazel eyes.
considering their lack of make-up these are very presentable ladies. Their lovely hairstyles and attire work to advantage too.
julie purves I agree they are all lovely!
There was makeup in that time. There always was. Even 2000 years ago makeup already existed. So, these women are probably using it. And the lack of quality of the photographs acts like a filter and that's why their skin looks unblemished and very beautiful.
Still, these are very lovely portraits.

Then only the prostitute used make up...
Indeed Sonia, you are correct, furthermore, ancient Egyptians were using makeup over 4,000 years ago.
All of them wearing lovely dangly earrings.
I have photos like these. They must be family, why else would they be in my mom's things when she passed away.
These photographs exposed on lantern slide plates with wooden cameras very golden period all is pure gold
Did you notice the photo of Clara Harris? Her fiancée was in the with her in Lincoln’s box when he was assassinated and he was the guard who left for a moment and Booth used that time to kill Lincoln, later she married the fiancé who suffered from this trauma(Lincoln’s death) and he later shot and killed her, then himself.
Yes I did!!!
I like that most of them had names. It humanized them.
Everyone has to breath their own breath
Hair not up is quite strange for a married woman!
Back when women were not afraid to be women.
What does that mean? They were owned by their father and then their husband. No votes, birthing beds became deathbeds. No contraception. What a lovely life!
Very lovely ladies from long long ago
Interesting to note that women's hairstyles of the 1840's had hair parted in the middle, dangling down either side in front of the ears in elaborate braids, swirls, curls and loops....20 years later, hair is upswept off the face and far less severe and fussy. Still, however, evidence of those confining corsets!
corsets weren't confining really. They helped support the body and actually helped people with period pains. There's really no evidence to say that people where struggling with corsets, because if it was a big deal they would have come out of style sooner. Thight lacing wasn't really a thing either, only reason why you see it written in papers then was because it wasn't normal or something everyone did.
Me gustan muchísimo estas fotos antiguas. Parece que esas personas volvieran a estar vivas. Sus ropas, sus actitudes... y ese color... disfruto viendo esas fotos.
Interesting watching style evolutions. Don't put periods at the end of the captions.
The IG influencers of their day.
think how long it took to make those dresses!!
And all done by hand. Of course, having slaves helped keep the cost down. (snark)
this hair , drelow, ,its much beautifuhl, ,quem me dera hohe em dia sair com uma roupa dessas e um cabelo formous hair in der stasse, oh, my good!
Most of them look serious as times back then we're alot harder
...and no plaster and paint😉
Non ci credo! Vi state prendendo gioco di me! Si dice che nella Londra del tempo una casa su tre fosse un bordello. Con mogli come queste la cosa non sorprende affatto. No! Non può essere tutto così. Datemi una speranza, vi prego!
Does no one in these pictures have blonde hair?
yellow and golden colors come out very dark in old photos. Lots of them were most likely dark blonde or light brown....
I,wonder,what,these,ladies,would,think,,about,todays,,unkempt,,,,ladies,,in,jeans,,,and tee,shirts
Possibly, they might envy our freedom and the lack of suffercating clothing which they had to endure, especially during hot weather and dealing with small children and household tasks which involved no modern conveniences.
