I enjoyed all of them but i think that people were much more sober and respectful of life than we are today. This is the era of My Dad and his Parents.
@Margaret Spurling. Have you noticed the facial features of these people? It seems they were a lot more intelligent that we are today. They did not have that dumb empty expression and hollow eyes that so many people have now.
A lot of these photos were made and mounted on thick paper. They were the size of a 3 by 5 post card and millions were produced during the Victorian era and I have a few in my stamp collection because some were actually mailed. They are very collectible. The French have a name for these cards but not being French I have forgotten it. A real super collection
Have a collection of handsome Victorian mens photographs......rare to see 1 that we may consider good looking today. Last picture i found i picked up, turned over and the gentleman's name was written on the back. Jim McLean. I have a CAT named Jim McLean. True story
Some of these picutres are actually post mortem portraits. Mortality rates were sky high and family's would make Books of The Dead - post mortem portraits of recently deceased loved ones. This was an accepted practice then - conisdered completley normal.
You're right. There was a lot of mortality, and because of this a lot of children were born in families. I'm Polish, I traced my great-grandfather's family. Great-grandfather had 10 children. Four of them died in the first year of life, two in the next 3 years. I have old photos of all those family members who survived. My grandfather had three children, and only one survived. That was my father. This was before 1900
I enjoyed the penny farthing pictures. If they were so comfortable, why hasn't someone reinvented them? They look like a fascinating machine of some kind! Lol. I imagine a fall from one of those would be disasterous! Did they have unicycles back then? Wonder where they came from? I would like to learn to ride a penny farthing if they were still around! Thank you for the great opportunity to view our history!
@@40HistoricalFiles Then please adjust the volume, nice quiet music then full volume talking. I love the photos, but cannot subscribe as the talking destroys the video for me.

Each for their own.
Great collection!
Those men @ 7:59 look very handsome. I do love that style.
Thank you for introducing us to this long gone era. I am fascinated by the time that is called Jugendstil or Art Nouveau. (1880 - 1918)
So sad everyone is dead. And even sadder all the photos must have been given up
Everything lives Everything dies be kind.I have photos of my family not forgotten just not here
Great photos,some a bit creepy👻🌺
The saucy girls then looked a hell of a lot better than the girls of today
11:15: Who'd think the mechanical bull had a predecessor? I'm sure it was nowhere near as popular, though, LOL.

Loved the penny farthing bicycles the best. I've seen how they mount them but how did they get off of them?
They jumped off or used someone, who helped them off of the bicycle.
Every single person looks extremely uncomfortable in their own clothes.
I was thinking the same thing!
I suspect they had to stand still for some time to get the picture - exposure times were longer then, especially earlier in the period.
Some people feel extremely uncomfortable in their own bodies in 2023. Get it!
The phase teenage was first coined on the 1950's before then they were either young men or boys

Obeying to a husband😱🥹🤣💃
No need for the woman talking at the beginning and the end
We wanted to give some context before starting with the video.
Why not?
Yes, especially since something just doesn't seem right about her. My guess is she's either very constipated or is actually a robot.

It is not a woman lol. It is an artificial intelligence.
