Great review!! The points you made are the exact reasons I got this watch last year (especially the unframed date window and 15 alignment). I bought the blue dial version which IMO separates it from the Hamilton with this colour option too. The double sunray from the outer ring to inner dial is gorgeous. It's definitely a strap monster -- I have mine on a straight bar non-tapering engineer bracelet right now and am totally in love with the way it transformed into a vintage looking GADA watch. Easily one of my favourite watches in my collection!

Nice review Alton. I have the Hamilton 42mm and really like it. That model also has an exhibition case back showing off the ETA movement with custom rotor which is a great touch. The power reserve is also more than double that of an NH35. That said, I also have two quartz Baltany models; the dirty dozen and type B flieger chrono you have in for review. Great finish on both and insane spec for the money.
Good points. I forget about the PR because I never wear them twice in three days. Serial watch switcher here.
The brushed bezel makes so much sense - never understood why watch manufacturers insist on putting polished bezels on some of their tool watches.

What a nice looking watch. The NH35 is a workhorse of a movement, its in a lot of my watches and have no problems at all with any of them. This particular watch checks all the boxes for me. I'm a fan of brushing on the case as most of my watches are tool watches, and they can take a beating. Great review, great watch.

The AR coating is also a huge plus over the Hamilton. My Hamilton is really hard to read due in certain lighting due to the reflectivity of the non-AR coated sapphire. This looks very interesting. Thanks for the video and quality review!
Yes. That could easily have been the fourth way this is better. But I will say that my Hamilton hasn't been an issue. Could be the colourway?

Alton, my friend, we missed you!!!! Yes, Baltany makes good watches. I'm very traditional when it comes to watches. This is always reflected in the fact that I demand Fliegers to be BIG, like their role models from history. So with my 8,5 inch wrist I'm always sad when looking at sooo nice field watches. That's the reason I bought a flieger (dirty dozen) Baltany. 42mm . Beautiful , precise, bronze etc Cons: 50m WR, no haking, manual winding. I love this watch. Why don't you try it? Hugs from Brazil
Take a look at the Berny AM127M, a 48 mm pilot so big it's a type A and B dial in one.

nice review! I have a baltany retro chrono model s205034 (150$) cream dial. It isn't a homage to any watch (not that i have anything against homages) and if i consider the materials, the quality of finishing and the quality feel that gives me when i wear it i'm pretty sure that if it said seiko, bulova or whatever on the dial, it would sit comfortably at 350$ and everyone would still call it a bargain. These guys make good watches.

I actually prefer the box around the date window. The numbers on the date wheel are the same size as the numbers on the 24 hr dial. When I see the 2 digit numbers on the date it looks like a 4 digit with the 15 of the 24 hr dial right next to it.
I think I would have liked the 24 hr numerals in red .

Ah yes... Hamilton stays away from AR on their lower priced models. This actually has AR and it works great. Another point for Baltany. But at the end of the day the dial, of my Hamilton at least, really sets it apart from Baltany. And the lack of AR on my Day Date Hammy hasn't been an issue.
The date window could be pushed to the right so it wouldnt overlap the border between the circle and the ring.
Baltany are great looking watches for the price.
If they just made a little more contrast in the colour of the numbers this watch would look even better.
Addisdive just released a Hamilton homage with record style grooves, hopefully Baltany would follow suit. Currently loving my Baltany Chrono.
You aren't crazy, I would add the nh35 as a big advantage, I prefer it to entry level Swatch group movements, some of which have plastic escapements. Nice review 👍
Ya... I have had three Swiss movements fail on me. Not a single Seiko movement has failed. So while the Swiss movement is nice... Nice only so long as it runs.

Spot on, I got the Militado version and you can knock another $50 off that price. Great watches, the finishing is great, even under a loupe. I’ll keep this for a while, then if it holds up. I’ll get a few different models. Hamiltonian are good, but with stories of steaming up and hands falling off, they’re not all that. Not sure if you mentioned it, but Baltany and Militado have some of the best sapphire crystals I’ve seen, regardless of price. High quality at a great price and they’re not fakes, which is a real bonus..
I wondered if Miltado was the same company. Or at least from the same factory.
I have the chrono version and at 39mm is at the very bottom of what I can wear with my 7.5 inch wrist and amongst all my other watches, it does look a little small. However, I still think Baltany make great watches.

I've always wanted a Hamilton Khaki field, but in my country they are incredibly expensive due to taxes (the automatic goes for 1000 USD) so this Baltany might be a good choice.

I ended up getting the Baltany and man, the quality that you get for the price is unbeatable. I have a couple of high end Citizens and the quality of this Baltany is absolutely insane compared to the Citizens, especially for the price.
You were right about every single topic in the video and well, I'm extremely happy with my purchase, so for anyone who wants an automatic field watch with a reliable movement, sapphire crystal and a screw down crown without spending a fortune, the Baltany S2049 is a phenomenal choice.
If you are brave enough and have had some practice, you could brush that edge yourself with scotch-brite to make it a brushed finish on your Hamilton, just go gently in one direction and make sure the crystal is protected. I have a Baltany that I rather love in my collection, they are exceptionally well made for the price.
I definitely could. I have touched it up before with Cape Cod cloth as well.
If the Hamilton Khaki had good AR, good lume, good WR QC, everyone would own one.
While I really like the looks, the 39mm is too large for my wrist. Perhaps they will address this in the future.
Why isn't the date window in line with the digits? How hard would it be to align this? It looks like the date window was an afterthought and it looks extremely sloppy.

I rhink this is one of those watches where you should get the original over the homage unless the extra couple benjamins make the Hamilton truly out of reach.
Baltany does make a nice watch, thougn, so.Incant blame anyone for taking the savings thos watch offers. I have their 36mm Dirty Dozen homage and it is a fantastic watch, though Inwould prefer a mechanical movement over quartz.
Ya I'd take the Hamilton all day, but not everyone, as you say, has the cash.

my wrist can't read either
5 minutes of polishing with mothers aluminum polish from crappytire and any scratch on any polished part of a watch case is gone. Its a lot harder though to get the grain right to brush out a scratch on a brushed surface, and unless one is blind just as annoying. This argument about polished surfaces and scratches is silly imo. And even if it weren't so easy to polish out a scratch on a polished surface, even deep ones, they seldom get scratched bezels. What are people doing to their watches? I have a kaki king, and a tissot gentleman both with polished bezels though worn often have yet to have any scratches on their bezels. The clasps yes bezels no. The watch is nice though and thanks for the review. I might be tempted though to polish the baltany bezel though if i buy one, it just looks so much better. Cheers from pei.
This is definitely a case of your mileage may vary. I agree it's easier to polish than brush but my polished bezel definitely get scratched out of nowhere. Cheers from Ontario! 👍👍👍
To my eyes, it also has a better proportions when it comes to lugs which seems a little bit shorter. I have always found Hamilton lugs too long for my liking.

A person with a 7” to 7.5” and beyond wrist will look like they stole their wife’s watch if he wore this size watch. Too small and too effeminate for my taste.
Everyone has their own preferences of size and I'm glad you know what you like. I have a 7" wrist and anything from 38mm to 43mm works for me but I love 39-41. Still on some watches that are almost all dial a 36 would be OK. Like you, everyone needs to figure out what they prefer.

Well, it happened that he accidentally caught a glimpse of the kids and the conditions in which his watches would have been made and was so appalled that he pulled out at the prototype stage. Is that enough context for you?
And this is even before we consider the Geopolitics angle which is soon going to take a center stage.
