I really like how the smoke clears up when boost comes on. That's the correct way to do it
Like to see the dyno sheets just to see where it's sitting. Very clean truck
This is by far the cleanest running hopped up idi I've ever witnessed. I've seen good power made out of the 93s just could never keep them cool while pulling hay.
That’s because ford and international blocked two of the main coolant passages on the heads in order to beat emissions by running the exhaust side of the head warmer than the intake side. That led to the overheating and cracked heads that the 6.9 wasn’t known for, despite literally being the same engine in every way aside from a rocker and oil cooler redesign, and .005 over bore pistons
My first truck was an 86 F250. It has always been my dream to buy it back and put an idi 7.3 in. Super nice job!
You've got a beautiful work of art there!!! I had an 88' IDI way back when. With some major wrenching I got 303 on the dyno....long before diesel performance was a thing to do. Wish I remember the torque (it was 30 years ago) And yes...like you said in the video, I had a whole lot of blow-by...It was fast and powerful compared to the competition at that time though!
I've got an 88 F250 EXT Cab 7.3 IDI na 4×4 flatbed 5 speed 4;10 diffs 33×11.50-16 mud tires 2 1/2" chrome stacks home made radius arm traction bars tan on brown. What a joy that baby is to drive. So comfortable and with those gears all the power I'll ever need. It's smooth going down the road and sure footed like a mountain goat. And it'll pull through the mud like a wildcat! This Cat has a nice wagon right there!
That interior is badass. I like my 1997 but that looks so much more old school.
Thats a Stout IDI good to see them older generation trucks around looks good.👍
Beautifully restored truck and to each their own. I personally like the factory power settings. it’s fun to work them and do the same as a 2019 or 20 with no truck payment and everything is so easily repaired if it actually breaks (a rarity as those who work em know).
An idi get definitely work hard, but I dont think it can tow 50,000 pounds like a 2007 6.7 cummins.
You’d be surprised what the old IDI’s can tow if the 6.9 and 7.3 where in a frame and body that could handle 50,000 pounds it would tow it
I mean with gearing any engine could pull any amount of weight but how quickly could it do it?
Nobody should be anyway over 20k lbs with a regular truck.
I’m running a very similar set up with a big turbo and psd forged rods. Truck pulls hard. Great looking truck.
I’d love to see that thing pulling 10K pounds! I bet it pours it on!
IDIs are such fun motors and drive so unique.
I bet the egts would be to high to tow
It would definitely pull it. An intercooler would be highly recommended before that lol
@@DanielFantini I’m surprised he hasn’t added on.
My friend has a 93 F-250 7.3 idi non turbo and it's all original except for the electric fuel pump conversion with over 2.5 million miles on it and it's his daily.
That is awesome!!!
@@CompletePerformance yep still runs like new.
Great news!
I didn't know that you could sleeve the old 7.3 idi non-turbo! Thanks!
I'm on my third idi. I'd still like to get my First one back but my latest has a 94 motor swapped in. So. Eventually we'll be chasing the power. As of right now it's just a good ole daily.
My 1988 7.3 IDI needs this love. She is ZF5, DRW, but still NA...
Thank goodness it’s manual
Was doing this before Justin he actually is using some of my designs now nice to see people finally trying things with this motor fuel rails help a lot need to port pre cups or rpm will be capped and anything less than 20lbs of boost don't benefit much from intercooler someone really needs to develop some pistons for the idi motors after doing full build motor was good but blew it up after 60k at 20lbs of boost finally bit the bullet and dropped in a cummins
awsome truck i love the idi i have a 1993 one ton crew cab 4x4 7.3 idi n/a i like my truck
Awesome! Good mpg? I would love to know H.P. and torque! More build info please
Hell yeah IDI!!!
That's sweet man. I have a 93 7.3idi NA. I'm planning something similar. Unfortunately, I have to have everything accounted for before I do much since I need the truck daily for work.
That thing is beautiful
Sounds just like a 7.3 powerstroke
That thing is badass
I don't agree idi have that that growl/bark you don't get from a Psd, I have both, built 7.3ps and built 7.idi turb, I feel like they sound nothing alike ....that's just my opinion tho
@@skwissgaar_skwigelf_kdz3251 I means ones a 2 stroke( ps )and the other is a 4 stroke (idi) so I'd hope they don't sound the same
JDRIFTS 95 both engines are four stroke
@@tymosher17 there’s no such thing as a 2 stroke powerstroke
Great job on the build. Instead of dishing the pistons, I would have opened up the prechamber
can you do that?
@@chevydiesel-ly7hi yup. Straight shaft air grinder and a burr bit.
@@PepperDarlington Thanks for the door on that!!!
Sounds wonderful! Honestly thought y'all need a 6.7l in your lives.
"Well hell lets build a engine"
Most American thing I ever heard 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸MURICA!!!!
This is a super nice truck
I have same truck with the banks sidewinder setup and a 95 front clip, 10" lift on 38 swamps . ....I wish I could afford all those R&D goodies.....that's a lot of work tho....I thought I had a lot into mine....fukn sweet truck tho.
Awesome
Classic diesel design (CDD) make super high quality parts for the idi they are still expensive but more attainable in my opinion. We use their parts in our high performance idi client builds. Our 1965 idi swapped galaxy wagon has their 130cc db5 injector pump, r&d stage 1 injectors, CDD intake manifold, CDD waste gate delete, garret ball-bearing t4 turbo ( from their site), CDD fuel sending kit, CDD intercooler kit, R&D main girdle, ARP 2000 series studs, comp cam 910 valve springs and retainers, CDD sump kit, CDD fuel return kit, CDD manual glow plug kit, and a used fass lift pump. And the results are crazy, so much usable power right there right now no lag and It is FAST! We haven't had a chance to dyno it or fine tune the pump ( we just got the chassis finished right as covid hit and our local dyno has ben closed ever since) but it will smoke my neighbors 2015 duramax with a full dan's diesel performance kit on it he makes around 850hp and over 1000 ft/lb of torque. IDI performance gets expensive fast but the quality, reliability, and simplicity of these basically fully mechanical monsters are 100% worth it in my opinion. If you live around the southern ohio area come check us out i promise you wont be disappointed and it will completely change the way you look at the IDI platform.
@@sladesspeedshop3326 haha glorious Galaxy WAGON 👍🏁
@@sladesspeedshop3326 I'm in Dayton where y'all at?! I've got an '88 350 ZF5 DRW with new tires, new rad, new starter, new plugs, relays, solenoids, all sorts of new parts... On that note, I'm either selling for $3k or turbocharging. My other truck is a flatbed 6.0 350, and it is studded and otherwise bulletproof but I just can't drop the idea of turboing the IDI, the most bulletproof of all.
@@FarmerDrew I'm down in Athens turboing the idi won't disappoint I promise it gives it just enough pep to it pull nice and strong and pretty quick when unloaded
That truck looks and sounds awesome I'd like to see more spec details build wise I'm gonna be in the market to build an idi turbo from a non turbo engine. But also how did you get r&d idi to help you so much Justin's a hard guy to get ahold of
Tim Rooney those are all standard r and d products, I’ve been able to get ahold of him most the times I’ve called, also on Facebook r and d page as well
@@danielpelky3342 I understand there standard parts from r&d me an another friend of mine just cant seem to get ahold of him anymore so it is what it is.
I feel like adding an intercooler and water/meth would tremendously improve this truck
No intercooler is throwing power in the trash.
An intercooler can add more power than the turbo it’s self 😮
I have a late 99 psd and an 87 idi 7.3s I'll tell you the idi is a tank
Aren't they though
I know y'all are in Texas
My is a 89 f250 7.3L idi lariat 4x4 long bed. Currently rebuilding. Stopped most of the rusting so far will have to replace driver door and truck bed. It is NA but I just removed the soup bowl. Could def. feel power from just doing that.
@Warren No that's not in my head. The soup bowl is an air restriction that can cause a lag in acceleration. You can actually tell the difference when carrying heavy loads. That's it basically. It doesn't increase max power but does prevent a dead vacuum when you got give fuel on heavy loads.
Been working on these trucks since I got my SAE 20 years ago. This was the first thing I noticed.
@Warren Oh, yea you can feel it when you take off. No lag as I said. You see the diff in mpg. Every little bit counts.
@Warren 3.55-1 Zf5 trans.
@Warren if my math is right went from 16mpg to 18mpg. Nothing noticeable on high rpm power, but take off from stand still is smoother. Can get near 21mpg with 10k lb on flat road. In southern nebraska thats almost everywhere. Man i love my truck!
@Warren after 10k lb i start losing mpg. Same thing happened with manual pumps on deuce and a halfs when i was in the army. At a certain point start losing mpg
What kind of egts, and boost numbers do you see on a regular basis? Any geuss on power numbers?
My guess on power would be around 412 (can be more or less) to the crank. That’s what the math came out from 150cc fuel pump.
@@matthewjones1554 it’d probably make that with an intercooler. Theres a lot left on the table without one.
@matthewjones1554 the 150 is rated for 400
Puttin alot of trust in those exhaust valves!!
Their Inconel
Not known for their longevity
What part of texas is he from?
Houston Area
Here I am 2 years later wanting to know everything that has already been asked but not answered😢
What gauges are you running?
What kinda fuel pump he runnin to feed the injection pump?
What is that melody 7:20?
No such thing 6.9L with factory turbo.
I caught that too
I think you could get them dealer installed but thats it, idk
That means it is an ATS 093 turbo kit off a factory turbo truck.
No power numbers?
Seen that truck before, thought it was a powerstroke swap.
Does he have A Instagram or RUclips or something you could link me to?
It sounds so much like a 7.3 powerstroke
It is just all mechanical. Personally the idi’s are pretty cool. But for power the Powerstroke is better.
No, it DOES NOT!
Fuck no it don't son! Blasphemer.
Wow a 7.3 diesel sounds like a 7.3 diesel?!?!?!
Also no it don’t.
Power strokes clatter like HELL
Классный трачек. моторчик 7.3 моща
What turbo is he running??
Wasn't it stated that he's runnin an s369?
Anyone no ballpark how much it would cost to buy an engine like that for my 89 idi?
The hotside turbo kit from r&d is 1200 dollars and a s369 like this is probably about 1200 too. A 110 db pump from them is 12-1300 then 4-500 for injectors and however much it would cost to intercool it would vary. I'm sure it would need a clutch and gauges plus other supporting mods like fuel system. All in all probably about 7-8k for the full build on stock internals.
@Kyle Smith depends on the truck but usually its cheaper to rebuild than buy new. Especially with def and bs emissions now
What trans.
Probably zf5
I wish they had talked about it too
What turbo?
He said an s369
I have a 7.3 idi rebuilt for sale and i also have 4, 7.3 powerstroke used and running for sale also
How much for a 7.3 idi?
vhp454 I have 93 IDI N/A crew cab dually, 2wd. All the pretty stuff is done, looking for power now. Any suggestions? Not looking to get crazy. It’s manual 4/10 gears, hoping to tore a boat with it without trouble
I want to know what size tire he has lol
6.9 never had factory turbos
He had a 6.9 engine with a 7.3 factory turbo setup installed
If those are the people that drive these now, and that's what they listen to...
Might be the time...
All that just to make 200hp😂😂😂
Likely making in the neighborhood of 350-400. Stock with a turbo makin 7-9psi & the pump turned up would prolly make abt 200... stud it & throw on a 90 pump & stage 1 injectors should make abt 240-250. R&D has the dyno numbers to prove it
too much fuel
Not enough fuel, after its boosted there is absolutely no smoke at all, which means its tuned perfectly to burn it all or its still hindering hp, the ip he has on it rn is small for running anything above 40 psi
@@dylonbradshaw2002would've been better with like a 364.5
I run and old F350 with a 7.3 and pull a 12 thousand pound 5th wheel around with and I will make you cry. With just a little more then 1300 pounds of torque. I will not tell the hp.
And you have no videos to back it up....please don’t show a dyno sheet to prove the power....everyone might leave RUclips for good.
@@sav300 Thing is there no need . Someone could drop a brick on your head and you would call it a rock but it not it's a brick. A rock is made from the earth but a brick is man made. This is most likely more then you small brain can handle and understand but it's still a brick.
Theodore Freeman haha come on now, a brick is made from the earth as well.
@@sav300 I new it was over you head. What you want is you would have to do it for yourself if paper dose not would. You better give this a little more thought. You have made a fool out of yourself don't make it a total fool. Show everyone you IQ is not smaller then your shoe size. I ran my own trucking company for 47 years so I know enough the diesel engine do not have spark plugs. I bet you didn't or did you. But over all these years everything has little trick. I know for a fact I have old truck out in the pasture that are older then your dad. And with a little coaching would still run.
@@theodorefreeman3173 you got 1300 ft of tq? Okay what turbo? What injectors? Who's rods you running, tunes?
My fummins would of let that truck lose all day
Congrats your Cummins beat an IDI. Insecure?
No one asked abt a fummins build. This is a video abt 400hp built idi.. not a cummins, go to a fummins page for that
I hear alot of sound but no move
And your point is? It’s enormously faster than stock. Keep hating
He said the clutch is pretty much gone
Compared to what? Common rail 5.9 would leave this in the dust but this is 80’s technology. It moves along pretty good
