Thanks a lot man I appreciate that! I’m waiting on rocker arms, push rods, and some other parts to come in so I can finish it. Check out my 93 f250 videos for my 7.3 stuff
@@T-MillProductions I shall do that, I have a channel with random stuff im working on. Need to do more videos on my projects. I'm going to stay tuned to your builds brother! I already checked out a few of your videos.
Gonna give yall my secrets, For 7.3 and 6.9 engines go to classic diesel designs or moose diesel, they got everything you need and more! Great vid, about to tear my idi down, this should help me out!
@@T-MillProductions It’s a 92 body, 94 motor,7.3 idi ats turbo. We pulled it out of the woods a few moths ago and it’s doing good i just figured i’m in school to be a diesel mechanic so might as well yank the motor and run trough it.
No kidding? I gota look at that then because I still need the intake gasket for mine. I was hoping to get back in to it a while ago but other projects have taken over lol
I went through the same problem with the oil cooler rebuild kit 2 years ago when I had to rebuild my cooler. Not just Napa, autozone, Car Quest, and Oriely’s did the same.
Dude I don’t know how these places don’t know what they’re selling. I hate wasting my time and gas driving back and forth trying to get the right parts. I wish there was a summit racing around here. I would just go there and shop lol
Oh you lucky bastard, you live in the desert south west? I live way the hell up in wi right off Lake Michigan. The closest one to me is in Ohio. I wish mine was only 100 miles away lol
Getting things lined up to do my 93 lariat ex cab, 4x4, body and trany, drive train great, which way would you go , long block, short block, total rebuild, now that you’re finished? Thanks
Well it all depends on your budget man, I was strapped for cash when I got this engine originally, I personally would rebuild the engine from the ground up, that’s my plan for my engine once I get the bad one out. This is just a hack job rebuild so I can use my truck again. The actual rebuild I wanna do is with stock idi turbo rods and bottom end, and a big turbo kit and make a nice torque motor. But it all comes down to money lol
It pisses me off that parts are getting very difficult to find for the 6.9 and 7.3 idi engines. I restore idi ford trucks. An old friend of mine got me into the idi trucks about 20 years ago he would buy parts up from any ford or international dealer who had idi parts. He died about 8 years ago his wife gave me all of his new and used parts he collected over the years. New water pumps new thermostat housings glow plugs he had at least a dozen valley pan gaskets new injection hard lines new olive seals only thing he didn't have was new injection pumps but a dozen of good used pumps. Where you located are you close to Allegheny County Maryland
I agree with you man! I was so excited to finish this build back in 2022 and then I couldn’t get any parts for it so I was forced to stop. Really sucks too because the truck it’s going in has just been sitting in my shop doing nothing
I have to look thru my notes, it’s not done yet because parts were on back order for a long time but I think I’ve got about 1000 into it as of now but I still need injectors, Injections pump, rocker arms, intake gasket, flywheel, clutch, and a couple other things
@@T-MillProductions i just installed R&D injectors on mine runs even better! Id call him up and ask of availability and watch him website throughout the day till hes in stock! Looks good tho!
Do they finally have them back in stock? Back in 2021 when I was working on this motor that’s where I was trying to pick up the ip and the injectors from and as soon as they were back in stock they were gone right away lol. I’ll call and ask tho, thanks!
So the way I do it is when the engine is in the truck I’ll pull the valve covers off and soak the heck out of everything in engine assembly lube and then put the valve covers back on and hen crank the motor for 15 seconds without starting it and that will get enough oil pressure to the entire engine. Also make sure your oil filter is full of oil when you spin it on. The best way to bleed the cooling system is to buy a tool called an Air Lift. Amazon has them. It pulls the empty cooling system down to a vacuum and then you close off a valve and put the other hose in the coolant container and the vacuum will suck the coolant into the motor making it 100 percent bleed if done correctly
So this engine was supposed to be a temporary engine. I didn’t wanna spend a ton of money into it. The current engine in my truck is a real factor turbo idi so I wanna rebuild that one with all the best parts and have real turbo rods in it vs this one is from a non turbo idi
I didn’t personally, but I bought that motor used but it had been completely rebuild years earlier by diesel builders or some place like that. I intended to do the short block to but it was so clean and in such good shape I chose not too. The crosshatches were still really good and the bottom end was all good so I just did everything else
Awesome build by the way! I'm currently disassembling mine and found some metal in the intake of a cylinder and a bent push rod. I'm afraid to take the heads off tomorrow
Ya know I wasn’t sure which way to go, cause this motor was actually rebuilt by diesel builders a while ago and they used a gasket so I was like alright I’ll do it their way but I’m not a huge fan of cork gaskets. I guess we’ll see lol
That’s cool man, minus the metal in the intake part lol. Are you gonna rebuild the whole motor or just take the top end apart? It’s funny cause I actually only started this project as a regasket job back in 2020 when I got the motor. If you go way back in my videos you’ll see when I very first got it and it was covered in oil and I decided to start taking it apart and then it sat for 2 years lol
That's false advertisement. Id be mad too, head boss generally shouldn't be reused, but if it's just a few. It will be okay unless this thing is getting boost.
So I ended up going and buying another “set” of head bolts so this way they’re all new. And it will be getting the stock ford turbo kit on it. It only boosts to 7 psi but that’s still enough to make it go boom without new head bolts
@@T-MillProductions I need to get head studs for mine. I don't plan on doing much to it for awhile other than a turbo. I got mine super lucky, only 66k on it when I got it. It sat in Missouri for 20 years doing nothing. No it's chilling in Sapulpa,Oklahoma and putting in work pulling a trailer.
ARP studs are like 5-600 $ and this engine is a deisel which relies on compression but they have like 190 hp it’s not going to the races might as well buy the regular ones
That’s exactly why I bought just the head bolts because I didn’t wanna spend that kind of money in this particular motor. The next one that I build I will tho
550 thousand miles on my first 7.3 idi rebuild. Thanks for the vid
That’s awesome! These engines are great, this one was running but it leaked oil everywhere so I figured while I had it out lol
Proud 7.3 idi owner here, I'm going to subscribe watch this build.

Really cool I thought I was the only one still messing with the idi
No sir lol, I love those engines. Just gotta find time to finish it. I’ve been so busy lately
Bought a 7.3lidi has bad head gasket wanting to pull motor and rebuild it. It's in a 93 international box truck
Sounds like a fun project! Do you know what caused the blown head gasket? Did they have a wicked wheel in the turbo or to much boost?
Nope we are still around. Have 2. Lol
Nope, I'm rebuilding as we speak 2024

Really? How much was it? And what did it include?
Which engine stand are you using
I got the 1500 pound one from harbor freight , it works great and fits like a glove

What state are you located ?
Good ol Wisconsin
Do you know what size the oil pump bolts are same with the oil tube the 2 bolts and one nut for that as well
Do you mean the thread pitch or the size of the bolt head?
Any info on how to prime the engine with oil and coolant before starting my fresh rebuilt 7.3 idi?

the 7.3 lifters are the same as 6.9 and the same as the 6.2 and 6.5 Chevrolet even the old 5.7 olds 5.7 diesel
That’s good to know man, I appreciate the input! To bad they didn’t keep this design through the 6.7
Why not just buy studs yes theyre better on thw 7.3 than the 6.9 but just extra insurance
