    What a great video. I have a 94 f250 with a 7.3 turbo IDI. It is my very first diesel ever. I bought it not knowing anything about a diesel. Thank God it runs well but now I have some idea of what tearing it down entails when the time comes. Thank you for this great video.

    The 6.9 is up there with the 12 valve. As far as reliability. And they can even get a decent bump in power.
    I own both and love driving both.

    Just bought a 1992 f350 7.3 IDI with a banks turbo. Got fuel building in the oil. This is my first diesel, I’ve never torn an engine apart, and I’m doing it in my driveway. About to pull heads off soon just to make sure everything’s kosher in that area. Everything’s going good so far but boy oh boy do I wish this thing was on an engine stand. I also wish that I put my rockers and rods in a cardboard set up like you guys did. Lol.

      The cardboard deal is something dad taught me on my first engine rebuild, and it has stuck. I know theoretical it shouldn't matter, but I do it anyways.

    Cool build I like seeing people work on the international idi’s. Could you do a small little install video on the total seal rings please. Haven’t seen a proper install video for them

    • @wrenchbenders
      @wrenchbenders  2 года назад +1

      The closest thing I would have is the our ring gapping video because I had to properly gap the top and bottom rings.

    • @wrenchbenders
      @wrenchbenders  2 года назад +1

      I would most certainly do one if I hadn't already installed them.

      @@wrenchbenders ok sorry it popped up on my RUclips feed I thought it was a new video.

      No problem. I hope we mentioned something in the ring gapping video I honestly don't remember what and all was said in that video.

      Speaking of rings, if someone added a turbo would you recommend re ringing and a wider gap for the rings for reliability?

      This is my first time working on and IDI as well, but if you have any questions feel free to ask and I will share anything I have learned about it.

    Awesome video. I want to do the thermostat and valve cover gaskets on mine. Did I see you guys just go straight down the line on them head bolts or did I miss the loosening sequence.

    • @wrenchbenders
      @wrenchbenders  Год назад

      For loosing you can take them out how ever you want. When tightening there is a specific torque step and pattern on head bolts. Valve covers I usually tightening from middle out going back and forth.

    What a great video! Thanks for making it. Did you blast and paint it once it was back together?

    • @wrenchbenders
      @wrenchbenders  4 года назад +2

      Yes, we cleaned it and painted it. We have a several videos with the latest being the "painting projects" video where we have given updates on the engine build.

      We are not a professional shop and currently do not perform work for other people. On another note you may want to check some of our other videos before you think about asking us to work on your stuff. Lol

    My 86 f350 I’m pulling the 6.9 and putting in a later one but any good kits or information on rebuilding and look to put a turbo on it

    • @wrenchbenders
      @wrenchbenders  3 года назад

      No matter what you do use total seal rings on the second ring down. If you are going to turbo definitely do head studs and reach out to R&D Performance for a turbo cam.

    • @wrenchbenders
      @wrenchbenders  3 года назад

      Also if going turbo depending on how big look into using powerstroke valve springs and shimming along with changing over to 7.3 rockers and guides.

      7.3 injectors are the same. I would recommend R&D Performance for new injectors

    To the guys trying to say the 6.9 and 7.3 idis are simple to work on.
    Pay close attention to how it took 3 guys hrs just to pull the heads.
    The only thing simple is the lack of electronics.

    • @wrenchbenders
      @wrenchbenders  8 месяцев назад

      There is a lot going on with the fuel lines, injectors, etc. Also, the heads are really heavy. Thanks for watching.

    • @buildurtruckurway9118
      @buildurtruckurway9118 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@wrenchbenders that's exactly what I mean. I've had alot of guys try telling me it's easier to rebuild an idi then a 350 and I have had to show them so many Times they are completely wrong. Just because it doesn't have a distributor doesn't make them easier.
      If I recall Each head is somewhere around 100lbs on the 6.9s and 7.3s. there heavy as hell.
      And no problem I like watching guys doing the same things I like doing.

    Are the headbolts reusable

    • @wrenchbenders

      Some people say yes but it is not manufacturer recommended. For $100 or so, I bought ARP studs.

    Do y'all not use power tools?

    • @wrenchbenders
      @wrenchbenders  2 года назад +1

      Not when pulling apart old motors that we don't want the bolts to snap. Also probably not as much as other people.
