One note: if you try to pull up a PSP game and get a black screen, this is a known issue (and a bug in Android). Open up PPSSPP, go to the Games tab, then tap on the "Browse" button (it has a folder icon), which will bring up your Files browser. Browse to the root of your SD card, then go to ROMs > psp and select "Use this Folder" and confirm. That should reset the file location and allow games to launch from ES-DE.

@@Happy-Hunter89 You can just uninstall and Reinstall PPSSPP, that's what I had to do. Just make sure when you open PPSSPP again that you point it at the folder that has the folder for your save data in it (labeled PSP) your old save data in it.

Thanks for the great video! Two comments though, placing the ES-DE application data directory on an SD card leads to performance issues on some devices, so if ES-DE starts or runs very slowly it's a good idea to move this folder to internal storage instead. And launching native Android apps and games has actually been supported in ES-DE as of the 3.0.2-21 release, meaning ES Applauncher is only needed for importing your apps and games and not for launching them. I anyway plan to add a built-in import tool in a future version, hopefully for the 3.2.0 release.

Wow! Actually learned something new. Didn't know you could re-scrape individual games, and refine the search while doing so. I have a couple games in my collection that I have never been able to properly scrape. Every time I wanted to try again, I'd have to shut down my RP4P, pop out the SD card, try changing the filename to something that would hopefully search properly, put the SD card back in, reboot my RP4P, and then try scraping again. Which was a major pain, so I eventually gave up. Just now I tried re-scraping one of those problem games, and after a couple of rounds of refining the search by tweaking the name a bit, was finally able to get it matched. Super convenient!

Great video! Can confirm that this is all super helpful for loading on my Retroid Pocket 5.
I would add that the ES-DE games folders are case sensitive. It matters for PS2 specifically and the game wont launch if its not matched exactly.
Now i need a RetroArch Multiplayer guide: how do i configure my RP5 so when i connect four 8bitdo controllers it automatically configures a controller profile!

I have this exact setup on my Nvidia Shield. Works a treat - albeit switch / PS2 / Wii emulation isn't worth it.

I feel it would be very similar to what this video cover, as ES DE is available for all major OSs

The setup process is the same on an android box such as the shield as it is here. If you're on a pc it's not that different either tbh apart from you need to set where your emulators are

I've been able to set up a few devices for gaming in the living room. I'm more curious what shades and or filters are widely used for big screen gaming.

Can you store roms for different systems in different locations?
E.g older systems on microsd but only ps2 specifically on internal storage?
And would you be updating your written guide for Android? Think there plenty of options such as esde, beacon etc not mentioned

Just found about ES-DE last week, very happy with the performance on my phone. Would have liked some touchscreen features, I always forget it's controller only.

Hey Russ, great video. Thanks also for mentioning how to migrate with ES DE. Is there an option to migrate an entire Android Setup, ie, HD Textures, Saves, Emulators, etc by copying. Indeed I think more guys are now checking out different handhelds so please indicate how we can make moving stuff around as easy as possible. Thanks

Great timing. I was just about to maybe get my first Android gaming device, and wondering how to set it up. Ballsy move though, to show Nintendo artwork in the same video that you show how to set up Yuzu, play romhacks, etc.

The main advantage Daijisho over ES-DE is automatic recommendations based on the selected game. It would be amazing if ES-DE has something like that.

Excellent video, as always. Thank you so much! My 5 cents anyway: be sure to download the latest retroarch apk. And, everytime you run a game from ES-DE, you'd better quit retroarch before you start another game. Otherwise, you may be staring a black screen.

How do i get es-de to launch straight onto a game.
When i choose a ps2 or psp game, it doesn't load but goes to the emulator, Aethersx2 & duckstaiton game screen

Are there any plans on making a video that goes over how to configure ES-DE to pull from multiple directories? I looked it up and apparently it IS possible even though the app only lets you set a single directory in the settings, but it requires creating a custom XML file or something like that. The ES Applauncher solves one of the big shortcomings that ES-DE had on Android, but I'm still partial to using Daijisho on my Odin 2 Mini since my ROM library is pretty big and is split between the internal storage and an SD card. My only other solution would be to buy a 1tb SD card and call it a day, but that's about $90 which...hurts.

I liked emulation station when I had it on the Steamdeck! However when I switched to a 2 tb and card I sort of lost all my set up and I’m too lazy to set it up again. But maybe I should try this for the Odin 2!
