pretty good guide for beginners, i use a separate fork of yuzu which i am not going to name, that required me to make a custom system file along with messing with the config, I would love to see a dedicated es-de video
Heya. I have a (used) Odin Lite and I think that if you search around pretty good you won't find a better device for a 100 dollar price tag! Ps2, N64. All playable on a nice sized screen. Still I'm looking forward to the retroid pocket 5 to get some added colors on screen and higher resolutions. 🎉
You don't have a Retro gaming device?? 😢 Or, Do you just not have an ANDROID... retro gaming device? Meaning you have a Linux or a windows Or some other operating system based retro gaming device?
I haven't used the DIG frontend in yrs but last time I did it was the best and easiest frontend I ever used...and it was FREE. It boggles my mind how there are hardly any videos that don't recommend it.
super helpful. i'm not a very techy guy, and i really want to get an RG406V after watching your review (i desperately want portable panzer dragoon saga). appreciate your videos. helpful and good, goofy humor. cheers!
For the last few months I've been sitting for 12 hours a night in the oil fields. Waiting for something at my site to require my attention, once a week I have to do something, otherwise I'm basically dedicating 12 hours of my night to watching movies and gaming, that being said, I've had the chance to do more Android based emulation Gaming of sixth generation consoles than any other time, and I've gotten really comfortable with it. So comfortable in fact That I think I finally gave up my 20+ year search for a for a Linux based handheld that can run all pS2 at full frames with no issues for $150 and bought a Samsung Galaxy tab S8 ultra And popped a 1 TB card in there. I've been slowly working with daijisho and getting it up and running. And it's a slow progress with me, I Do have experience with running emulation station on a raspberry Pi 3B+ and might consider installing it on this device. But I'm a cheapy and don't like paying for stuff LOL I haven't quite gotten it set up perfectly... by far and there are still a number of emulators I wish to download like turbografx CD. Great tutorial, I thoroughly enjoyed watching😊
@@TechDweeb OMG right! unfortunately I've been on a Sega run for a while right now, finally played through EGG for the Dreamcast last month on my pixel 6a and just figured out 2 days ago how to transfer my Dragon Force for Saturn save file from my 6a to my, JUST purchased a week ago, Galaxy Tab s8! GREAT game btw, looks fantastic on S8 ultra!! may also play Dragon Force II as I have the translated iso and DEFINITELY want to play Panzer Dragoon Saga again and maybe get past disk two this time! =P
I personally use Beacon for a front end, but this might have just sold me for Emulation Station. While I'm not jumping from device to device as often since I'm not doing reviews so I can just use a device till it dies. But having to scrape the data again every time I do get a new device sucks. Like it's some times tempting to just not bother. The idea of just having the SD card already set up sounds so nice.
first handheld i got was the Retroid Pocket 2S, spent a bit over a month just making configurations before I actually got to play my first game. I don't understand why these companies don't include some starter manual , even if only for retroarch which operates like a damn spaceship
The problem IS retroarch. I hate it and don't really use anything that's tied to it. There are other frontends that make the whole process a lot easier and cleaner...not to mention that retroarch is a huge memory hog so if your device has low ram as it is, retroarch will use up most of it and cause your games to abruptly crash.
Watched the whole video, but I'm still thinking about those Lay's Potato Chips which are made with just 3 ingredients: potatoes, salt, and vegetable oil. I mean, whoever created that simple recipe is genius!
I don't think I have ever heard Mr. Dweeb cover something so quickly, even though this was a 15 minute video :p Were you a car salesman in a past life?
Pro Tipp: Depending on your device its usually worth it to go out of your way and get the EU/PAL Versions of Bios and Games for Systems like PS2 or Gamecube, especially if you have somthing like the RG406V, the Cube, or something like that wich caps out at GC and PS2 Reason for that being that the EU/PAL Versions usually run at 50fps (instead of 60fps for USA/NTSC), so you can expect less stress on your hardware and better performance with PAL.
Thank dweeb I was watching one ur videos..and I was I hope he makes a video on how to set up android..and voila...u did it..ur a wizard thank u..so much..no I can buy my rg406v
(1) This is great! Thank you. (2) I've got a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, and while I'm pretty happy with the setup, one of the things I've found challenging is setting up each retro system with an overlay and video filter (CRT mimicry, etc) that looks good on that system, and it seems like everybody's tutorials on that (Retro Game Corps, etc) are tailored for Linux handhelds. Do you have bezel/shader sets that you particularly like for 16:9 Android handhelds? Or just a good repository for them?
The what is "three plus three divided by 3"equal to" is a trick question. The way people speak, they don't indicate order of operation. They could mean (3 + 3) / 3 = 2 OR 3 + 3 / 3 = 4
@TechDweeb damn, stupid YT. I guess this is what happens when you haven't finished a comment and YT autoplays the next video. Enjoy the engagement algorithm bonus.
I went back to Daijisho because ES-DE makes my device warm by just scrolling games at it. Also it's more lightweight and support different internal and sdcard location support. Just my opinion
Great video! Now I want to go out and get some chips. Is it safe to say I could just load up my 1.5 Tb micro SD card and move it back and forth on multiple Android hh?
I don't like Android handhelds because setting these up are tedious.. wished there was a single zip package with all the APKs, setting files, etc. minus the bios and roms, or better yet if these devices came pre-setup like the linux handhelds
I prefer Beacon Game Launcher. This is easier and more console like experience than ES DE. ESDE more arcade style, and also doesn’t have normal android app menu.
Is there a way to copy the android emulator folders from one device to another so you don’t need to reason those (and can just copy those folders from as to the new device? That would be cool! 😎
Can I have some roms folder on SD Card and some on Internal ? I mean, normally on the PC (and ES-DE) it is a matter of manually adjusting config, to point to proper drive+directory. I hope it's possible on Android too :) then I'll be able to switch my Odin 2 from Dajhshou to ES-DE like on the desktop, windows handheld etc. :)
Something that bugs me and would be helpful to know: Is it possible to transfer box art etc from say Windows, to Android, to Linux and between the various distros? For example, I originally scrapped a bunch of art on my PC, but could never figure out how to move it between DaiJiSho, Emulation Station, and wherever else I want to put it.
They can be, but that's one extra step - you need to create a saves and states folder on the card, and point Retroarch to that in Settings>Directories.
I had a ES-DE setup and everything scraped and ready to go on my PC but whenever I downloaded it on Android most of the boxart and stuff just doesn't want to transfer over. I think it has something to do with the gamelists because they say they have an error on line 5 for some reason for the systems that don't work. I know I can rescrape everything but I've been lazy. Honestly I might just delete everything and start over from scratch using your video since my ES-DE needs updated to the latest version anyways.
I have a problem with ES-De... i have a rp4 pro and i use (under daijisho) both the internal storage and the sd card to storage roms... and i haven't found a way to make ES-DE to be able to select multiple directories for roms... that's the only thing preventing me from using it as main frontend... have i missed something or there is no way to do so?
I have a Google Pixel 8 Pro running Android 14. I installed ES-DE frontend, several standalone emulators, roms, bios, etc however I'm constantly as to why starting the emulator is always showing in Portrait mode rather than in Landscape. This seems to be the case with pretty much all of the standalone emulators. I wasn't able to find the option to change Portrait to Landscape. Is this controlled via RetroArch? If so, how do I correct this? Thanks.
I'm sad because my dad is unwell and things are very tense. Seeing this video was a nice opportunity for some respite for 15 minutes. Thanks Dweeb ❤️
I’ve been playing on Android for a while but I still watch these setup videos and usually learn one or two things I can try differently.
These type of videos are invaluable for us dweeb minions 🤓
ES-DE is a great project. I've bought it, mainly to support the project.
Thanks! Yes, interested in more es-de and this overall standardizing theme

let's start with the first step, which I call step one.... Loughed till tears appeared.
A part 2 could delve into managing game saves. Kind of a hassle most emulators store saves in different locations.
