The saying is indeed true.. Cruising IS fixing your boat in exotic places... But at least the places we find ourselves in have beautiful views and dinner below the surface! Join us for a full day of boat life as we change neighborhoods, try to prevent the boat from sinking, and do our best to survive off the sea. In todays video we sail to nearby Ronde Island which we haven't been to in 5 years when we were there with Billy's sister Catherine and ‪@BeauAndBrandy‬ Billy fixes a leaking raw water pump then we go diving looking for dinner and find a few lobsters and more than a few lion fish.

Back then, I was all about traveling and enjoying life, but once inflation hit, I had to pull back. Even with adjustments, those earlier withdrawals and splurges are tough to recover from. Now, I’m more focused on making my savings last, but it’s a challenge I didn’t fully see coming

I’m nearing retirement myself, and I had similar concerns. I started investing later than most, and just relying on ETF compounding wasn’t cutting it for me either. After working with a financial advisor, I managed to restructure my investments and am now on track to retire with around $4 million. If I hadn’t sought advice, I doubt I’d be as confident in my plan right now

I usually steer clear of recommending specific people because financial needs are so personal. But I can say that working with Emily Ava Milligan has made a world of difference for me. I noticed her strategies are tailored to fit personal goals and make sense for different needs. It might be worth exploring to see if her approach resonates with you.

You should absolutely ask Keith to go diving, he has to do it alone after his kids left the boat, which is pretty dangerous. I bet he would love that! They might even love to buddy boat with you guys for a bit. :)

I’d lived in the Caribbean for 10+ years before a local friend told me the way they deal with weevils is to freeze dried goods when they get them home from the store. Ideally, keep them in the fridge/freezer full time but if you don’t have space for that, I’ve found this helps keep our flour and oats black spot free. Just a tip you might find useful!

Question, to you like a galley down or up?

    • @Rodrifuuu
      @Rodrifuuu 8 дней назад

In a compact boat, galley down frees up so much living space. I guess it also depends on the cook. When I'm cooking I want to be left alone and not be distracted so galley down would (will?) be perfect for me.

here here, as an Aussie who's a non-drinker, people were puzzled by my stance, I don't mind others drinking, I just don't care for it, I don't like the taste, but especially in the last century it made work culture difficult. The first reaction on me not drinking was that I was some kind of religious nut who was going to tell them not to drink, but no, nothing like that, I just enjoy coffee more than beer and coffee is cheaper, so why drink something I don't like when I can drink something I enjoy?

same, i enjoy a bourbon or other mixed drink. Not a beer drinker at all. i could go 5 years between having anything and be fine. I will say, if i have one i might follow it up with 1 or 2 more over the next few days, but then i remember how expensive it is and spend my money on more fishing stuff.

    • @drx1xym154
      @drx1xym154 2 дня назад

@@iwishiknew10 -- a quality smooth bourbon can be great - neat or on the rocks, from time to time. I generally do not drink wine, though it can stay "fresh" for several years, when correctly stored at around 75F to 65F ambient with little to zero sunshine.
bourbon or a few quality dark rums hit the spot. I think vitamin sea is more key, though - as cheesy as that may be.

Totally agree with your perspective. In the marina we used to keep out boat everything seemed to revolve around sitting and drinking. It was not our style either and as a result we were kind of the recluses of the marina and not in the "in crowd". I would much rather be out doing something fun. I have nothing against a casual drink, but to spend every evening doing nothing but that was not healthy for me.

Hey mate, premature seal failure in the raw water pump could be from the small spring around the lip of the seal rusting in the salt water. On my Yanmars, I pluck the spring out and replace it with an O-ring of the same size. Haven't had an issue in 15 years since doing this.

Also, lubricate the seal and shaft surface using dielectric (silicone) grease. Running it dry will quickly cause the seal to fail. Regards.

    Billy,
Last time I did replace my seal straight from the front of the pump on my yanmar 3YM30 and no problems....no need to dismantle the pump. Yours needs dismantling because your bearings are dead, get new ones asap. Maybe your shaft is not spinning concentric because of damaged bearings and that uses prematurely your seal. Don"t use emeril cloth to polish the shaft, use a scotch britenpad instead. Much softer with it. Use lots of grease to pack the bearings in the pump body. That and the shaft middle o'ring will prevent water from getting in. There is a small hole in the pump body that acts as a teller and when it leaks from there you know your seal is worn and needs to be replaced before water enters the bearings side. Seals should last at least two impeller changes but if you tension too much the water pump belt after replacing impeller that uses the seal. Try to keep the same tension as before the impeller was replaced.
Cheers guys and Jetty from Spain 😊

If the seals keep leaking, sometimes it’s because the stainless spring inside is corroding, or stretching. I have found adding a slightly tight O ring inside the spring groove keeps tension on the seal. I guess you have one of those boxes of rubber O rings, I just try different sizes till one works..

Vaseline on the housing will help it seal and stop the dry start up when you install the new impeller.. pack the impeller with Vaseline then put it together also a pipe wrench on the shaft against the floor will stop it from pumping when the motor is off and you are under way

To rebuild the pump once a year seem excessive to me! I have had a Belize43 and only rebuild them once in 10 years. I managed to get the seals with stainless steel ring in them and also used Australian Lanolin marin grease between the bearings and all places I could get it in. Never a problem since that first overhaul after I bougth the boat.
Great video by the way, very enjoyable fram my armchair.

You can make those bearings easier to install by putting the part you'd like to be smaller in the freezer for an hour.

You might know this but freezing steaks in grocery store packaging encourages freezer burn. Obviously you might have just loaded the freezer that way for "content". But I didn't know this when I was young. Love you guys!!!!

You are right about the freezing. However, I don’t think their frozen meat sits around long enough to be an issue. 3-6 months won’t harm them.

On those bearings you can pry the side cover off and fill it with synthetic grease to make it last longer.

I have heard that about shrimp and lobster but I don't eat it fried because I don't like seed oils. I am a heart attack survivor, 11 yrs. this month. 59 now! I have changed my diet to carnivore and feel so much better. I followed Dr. Ken Berry on YT to hear it from a doctor. Blessings for good health friends!

Like the video and your perspective on life and living. Your life your choices.. On the bugs note; if you freeze the flour, oats and rice first and then portion it all out you will find fewer bugs and if you do it will be just one portion rather then an entire batch. Keep on going!! 👍

Awesome job with the pump reconditioning. As someone else suggested before you install the bearings put the shaft in the freezer and the bearings in the sun in top of a solar panel. They will likely just slide together with less chance of damage to the bearings.

Thanks for gently addressing the drinking. Social connections are very important and necessary, but there are deeper and better connections than the happy hour or partying. I don’t want to judge either, but to me everything in moderation is far better than drinking as self medication.

I thought that besides cardboard, the next big bug issue was the labels on cans. I noticed that your cans have them still on. Care to comment? Love the channel. ( and Jetty, she rocks!). ❤

You're "tapping " the wrong race on the bearing.. you should have a tube that fits just over the shaft to push on the inner race of the bearing. Your socket is pushing on the outer race and that can damage the bearing..

Also check the alignment and tension of the drive belt. I'm a marine engineer with 48 yrs experience. To check the belt tension, take the longest span between pulleys between your thumb and forefinger and twist it. If it rotates easily to 90 degrees it's too loose. If you struggle to twist to 90 degrees it's too tight. It should just get to 90 degrees without being too easy or struggling to get to 90

Plus add a bay leaf into your flour storage to discourage bugs. SV Delos recommends removing all the labels off your cans to discourage bugs.

I watched your pump rebuild. when you reinstalled the bearings it looked like the socket was on the outer race, when you hammer on the outer race you basically hammer across the bearing. I think it would be better in the future if. you put in your kit a sleeve that just slides over the shaft of the pump and that way you would install by tapping down the inner race causing less damage to the bearing. You seem to have to do this on the regular so. probably would be good to have in your tool kit. Good Job.

What I find is the seals fail cause the spring that tensions it rusts away, you can get seals with stainless springs and stainless bearings from Mc master carr real cheap also I use a pick and pull the seals off the bearings and clean the grease out and re pack with Lucas oil synthetic grease put the seals back in and the pumps last alot longer...hope this helps!

Hello! Have you guys ever thought about sailing to Asia? I know it’s really far away, but it would be fun to watch and the sailing scenery around the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam are spectacular (Indonesia is also really beautiful, but some RUclips sailing people had sketchy people boarding their boats there trying to scam them, one even had a gun, and quite a few men behaved very inappropriately with their 12 year old daughter- don’t recommend). Anywho you guys are lovely, have a great day ❤️from Australia

Billy, next time you rebuild the water pump, use a little bit of dish soap to lube the impeller. It will provide some protection from the dry start, and help with reinstalling the impeller.
