    -----
Godfrey and Vlad talked about Freeway Ricky speaking on the issues between African-Americans and Africans.
Godfrey agreed that there are issues between Africans and African-Americans, and noted that he sees it as a West African man in America. He noted that it comes mostly from Africans though. He pointed out a scene in ‘Sugar Hill’ with Wesley Snipes where he dealt with an African man during a drug deal.

When I was in college I was having a hard time. I was going through spiritual, financial, and mental trouble. One day I was on my way to class and I just broke down. One of my professors from Nigeria pulled me to the side, hugged me and talked to me like a father would a son. I will never forget that experience. Its experiences of that nature that taught me to treat people as individuals. Stereotypes never help.

I’ll try my best to explain, ever since we were born we’ve faced nothing but hatred, pain, and suffering. Even from our own people we are targeted, we are targeted by whites, blacks, asians, latins, indians, etc. We get disowned a lot and feel disowned a lot and in order to survive we must get violent. It’s differences between us because of the hardships we face which molds our people to become violent because each day we’re targeted but we are good people and we really want to connect with our african brothers and sisters and come back home. The only thing that’s discouraging is that the thought if feeling like an outcast amongst our own people just because of africans looking down on us. That’s really how we feel

It goes both ways. I’m African living in New York City. When I first came in the USA 🇺🇸 I wanted to hangout, and mingle with African Americans but their attitude was like I was inferior to them, coming out of the jungle, probably sleeping in trees, they didn’t want me near them… I was hurt very hurt and stayed away, I had no choice but to find others like me.
Over the years I understood why there was friction between these two groups. The racist American media always portrayed Africa as savage and backward and portrayed African Americans as gangsters, killers, evil… pinning one group against the other. Now with the internet the truth can no longer be hidden, so let us blacks from around the world 🌍 embrace each other, for our struggle is the same against a common enemy amen 🙏🏾💪🏾😊

Traditionally, the term "nation" refers more to a people group, an ethnicity, rather than just a geographic location. The Roman Empire was an exception, but one could be a Roman citizen while also belonging to their home nation (such as St Paul, a Roman and a Jew). So far as I've seen, only the countries spawned from Britain have tried to truly adopt a notion of a multicultural nationality based more on ideals than ethnicity, however flawed that approach has been. A non-Chinese could emigrate to China, assimilate into the culture, learn the language, but would never truly be considered Chinese, but a Chinese family can come to America and within a generation be fully American in every sense of the word...

goodtwogo actually you can apply to become a Chinese citizen they are simply stricter on who does or doesn’t get approved. They probably also limit how much of each race does get approved every year. As for China calling the shots globally, no. They will simply have more of a say than they have in the past. Simply another Superpower alongside US/Russia.

This is true, most of this judgement comes from the fact that a large number of African Americans have failed to make use of the opportunities in America. Though African Americans have been systematically oppressed, it can become an excuse at times for they failure. Africans, Asians, Haitians and other blacks go to America and manage to succeed with less opportunity and resources. That's where a lot of the dislike for African Americans stem from. I hope there will be a day when Malcolm X And Marcus Garvey dream will come through. All blacks living in unity regardless of the country you from or light or dark you are.

The black people from the continent of africa that call African Americans akata are Nigerians specificaly. Africa is not the name of that continent, the europeans called it that name to cover up the truth. It is Nigerians that came up with that name. It puts a bad and a negative image on us Black people that live in the black continent of africa. Many Nigerians say that the word akata in Nigerian Igbo or yuroba languages mean something positive In their traditional languages. The Word Akata is a negative Word invented by Nigerians, I as a Cameroonian do not support it. Because it puts divisions amongst us Black people. I have worked hard to talk to Nigerians to stop calling black people in America that name because it is a negative Word, and it puts seperation and decision among us. In terms of all of the other more that 40 African countries like Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Cameroon, Tanzania, Kenya, Benin, Togo, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, South Africa, Gabon, Burkina Faso, Drc Congo, Congo, Ethiopia, Egypt, Angola and much, in Africa, We Do Not Call you African Americans Akata. We See You As Our Brothers and Sisters. We Africans in the black continent of africa understand the hardship you African Americans and the Black people all over the world including South America have been through and endured in the hands of the White people/europeans. We Africans respect you African Americans, we understand all the hardship you went through to fight for your rights and the rights of Black people as a whole. We in Africa endured our own hardship in the hands of the Europeans/invaders, but our hardship is nothing compared to what you black people in America went through. I have tried to tell my Nigerian brothers to stop calling black people in America that name, even if it means something positive in their native tongues, it is negative in English and it is also negative the way they say it and direct it. We Africans respect you African Americans and black people all over the world, that is why Ghana and other Countries in Africa are opening up paths And welcoming Black people in America to invest in the black continent of africa, to open up businesses in Africa so that the continent will grow, innovate, and develop. These Countries and the whole Continent of africa is Welcoming black people in America and all over the world to come and visit. To see the Beauty of the black continent of africa. The hardship you African Americans went through in the hands of the Europeans, I can never imagin it or comprehend it. African Countries are in modern slavery today, specificaly western and central Africa, these countries are controlled by European powers like France. The countries that manage to think freely and welcome black people in Africa are the ones that are not controlled. We Africans love and respect you African Americans and black people all over the world. Thank for reading this comment. God Bless.

The other painful aspect to all this is that during Jim Crow, Africans didn’t have the nerve to come here. But after black Americans suffered and died for Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity, Africans (and other worldwide ethnic minorities) started coming here in droves and taking advantage of opportunities and reaping where they didn’t sow. While at the same time looking down on the black descendants of enslaved Africans and insulting the children and grandchildren of those who marched, who were hosed, who were bitten by dogs, and imprisoned, just so we all could enjoy freedom and liberty. It’s so very pathetic

When white people try to be friends with me, I know based on the history of interactions between blacks and whites that white people are looking for something out of me or to take advantage of me. That’s why I just use white people to my advantage and get as much as I can out of them and never be their friends or give up much to them. They usually stop trying to be my friend once they realize I’m using them.

The same goes for humanity bc the human race started with 2 people according to science & religion so there’s no such thing as races just one human race!

I don't understand how Africans can have the nerve to look down on black Americans. A relatively small number of blacks were kidnapped, with help from other Africans, and brought to the Americas. They were isolated and cut off from their language, culture, history, family, and homeland. There wasn't much they could do other than accept their new life in the Americas. On the other hand , Africans allowed Europeans to invade and take over and colonize almost their ENTIRE continent, and stood by while allowing themselves to be treated like dogs in their own homeland. That is FAR more disgraceful, embarrassing, and humiliating than what black Americans endured. Imagine someone coming into your house, claiming it for themselves, and allowing you to sleep in the garage or in the backyard toolshed. That's what Africans allowed to happen to them. Africans have no business looking down on ANYone.

As an Ethiopian, I have always felt a strong connection to my African American brothers and sisters. When I was a freshman in college, I was new to the US and was lonely. It was my African American friends who really helped me feel at home and welcomed. They are funny, easy to be friends with, and always there to support you just because you are black.
As someone who comes from a African country that was not colonized, I had limited knowledge about slavery and systematic racism. The black history I was taught focused on the heroism of my ancestors, but my African American friends had a different experience. They were taught that they were not as competent as white people and were often subjected to negative stereotypes perpetuated by the media. Some of them were even brainwashed into believing that they could not succeed in STEM fields or that they needed to spend a lot of money on jewelry and sneakers in order to appear wealthy. I remember discussing about African culture and stereotypes with them. I used to believe that Black people in America have more opportunities than in other countries and used slavery as an excuse. Now, I understand the impact of slavery and racism on Black people's experiences and opportunities.
Despite our different backgrounds, my African American friends and I loved and supported each other through it all. If you're reading this, Sydney, Jack, and Jasmine, you guys are the best!

I am African. The reason for the "we are better than you" mentality is the great divide in culture. For example the cursing and swearing that African Americans use to express themselves is seen as uncouth, uneducated and uncivilised according to most African cultures. Forexample When someone curses or swears most Africans will self withdraw and then the African American will feel looked down upon. Also our world views differ. Africans are not as passionate about black activism as African Americans are. It would take alot of courage, time, research and understanding to get along because our cultures and world views are not about to change because they form our identity.

Of course, it would be Nigerian or someone of Nigerian descent to claim to speak for all Africans on a topic like this. As someone who is East African and has been to the states to study it goes both ways in my opinion. One on hand you have the Black Americans who want to learn about African culture and different countries. On the other hand, there are also Americans who make jokes about africans or know nothing and think of Africa as one country instead of as a continent. Similarly there will be Africans who like anyone anywhere might be cliquey and only want to be around people who are from where they're from and anyone outside that they may act uncomfortable with but I wouldn't say Africans "look down at Black Americans" simply because they are descendants of slaves. that's such a closed-minded way of viewing things. I'm just surprised he didn't see the irony in the way he chooses to speak for all Africans on a subject like this while he himself didn't grow up in Africa/Nigeria and instead grew up in an immigrant family.

I will say this, if you are an African who migrated to the US and had to live in New York, I sincerely apologize to you. I would not want to live in New York because they do not have southern hospitality, i’ve been bullied by a man from New York in the workplace and he made it very uncomfortable for me, so I can understand that part of it. I can honestly say that I have never heard or witnessed an African being bully or miss treated but that is not to say that it doesn’t happen. One thing that children do in school is mock and especially in the black community it’s a big issue.I was teased in elementary school but I learned how to defend myself. Going to an all black school was the worst for me and I did have friends of other ethnicities. Now when I went to an all Spanish school because of their experiences with other Black people, maybe hood people, I also was Mistreated. The color of your skin doesn't define you, at the end of the day.

Naaa..Godfrey is ill informed in this case. The bottom line is “relatability “. Majority of the Africans that migrate to the US are college educated and middle/ upper middle class back home, and they have to start from the bottom as bus drivers or security guys. Usually, they are not that relatable at this point either they don’t really have much in common with their colleagues or they are busy with schools at this point. Give them a couple of years after getting their stuffs together, then they become more relatable because the colleague or friends will be almost at par with them.
It has nothing to do with not liking each other, it’s actually the opposite and besides, that part in the Sugarhill movie is just an Hollywood thing.

I think Godfrey is pandering to his African American audience. He even admits he was called "African booty scratcher" by African Americans and still fails to acknowledge the existence of this type of derision from ignorant African Americans towards Africans. Conversely, some Africans ignorantly typecast all African Americans with the ghetto, no-good image the media perpetuates. Truthfully, many immigrants from Africa, Asia, South & Central America etc struggle to understand why African Americans are not making more progress in the American society. They do not always comprehend the historical context of the African American's struggle in America. That said, irrespective of Godfrey's opinion, there definitely exists a tendency to ridicule Africans, especially with the less educated African Americans. I find that the more enlightened African Americans are typically delighted to see an African and are eager to identify with one.

Part of the problem is that Godfrey has met a handfull of Africans versus an entire continent of Africans. As Africans we always have to remind people like Godfrey that AFRICA IS NOT A COUNTRY. It is a continent of 54 different countries, from Tunisia to South Africa...over 2000 languages spoken by many individual cultural groups...each African with their own opinions and views about the African diaspora.
Godfrey claims to be woke yet he, like the colonisers and racists, enthusiastically lumps every one of us into a stereotypical bracket of "Africans look down upon African Americans"...or "Africans call us names like "cotton picker"' (even though most African countries never had slaves shipped to America or Europe and would have no idea what he is talking about)...seriously. He certainly does not know Africans as much as he claims to.
I am African, born and raised. I have nothing but love and admiration for the African diaspora...not only African Americans...but also African Caribbeans, African Asians, African Australasians as well as African Europeans. I have relatives and friends who were brave enough to seek greener pastures in the diaspora...against many odds. My country of origin, Zimbabwe, celebrates every African diasporan with a hint of Zimbabwean blood...from Danai Gurira to Tinashe Kachingwe...who are both African American. At the end of the day, in the worlds of Thabo Mbeki, one is not African because they were born in Africa...one is African because Africa was born within them.

Lamel Jarvis nah look I know this to be the truth that will continue to sever the relationship between black people as a whole(Africans, West-Indians, and African-Americans): There is jealousy, hate, and ignorant prejudice coming from all sides. I almost lost all my self-confidence because I was treated as a ‘weird African nigga’, the exact words from someone I thought was supposed to be my brotha. See the problem is that the baby boomers and generation X Africans(I.e our parents and grandparents) already form a misconception about black Americans not only based on what they see on T.V but also because of what they see when they come here. You gotta understand that the importance of morals and respect is of an utmost importance to Africans in general and so the freelancing, comparatively wayward life that they see when they migrate here makes them wary and even more so Afraid of their children’s future in a foreign land because it could go sideways and out of their control. Therefore, they roll with the flawed mentality that all African-Americans are disrespectful and even lazy and try to pass that down to their children. Their African children, in turn struggle with fitting in to the society especially if they also migrated because it seems to them that they have to become like their American counterparts to be accepted which may not even end up happening, while the ones that were born here start to disagree with their parents more and more because they grew up here, so they have no background or understanding of what Africa is like and why it is important to stay focused and watch the friends they keep. You have to understand that although Africans have this problem of quick misconceptions, their victims are not just black Americans but also white people and other people in fact. And this is the same with black Americans but with a twist of satire and light-heartedness that makes it seem like it’s no harm when it actually does psychological and social damage to black unity. You see this is because African Americans while being very generous are more impatient and intolerant of people with a different background than them especially when it comes to a different black ethnic culture because us as Africans will not be used to the American way of doing things and cannot all of a sudden adapt and then become just like our black counterparts from America. That’s loosing our own identity man!😪😪😪. None of the black people that approached me when I first came to America in 10th grade were eager to truly help me because I was just that, different. I didn’t understand the culture of football, didn’t know what the bloods and crips were, didn’t know that kids started driving very early, wasn’t used to kids disrespecting teachers as common practice!, wasn’t used to none of that and I saw all of em cut me off or just make fun of me and insult me cuz of that. That’s why till this day, I keep asking myself if it takes someone being able to start making fun of themselves and others like Michael Blackson does to receive love or acceptance in this society. I kept wondering why even the Africans that grew up here I met when I arrived were ashamed of me and this is the sad truth for a thousand and one other Africans. We are hurt in our workplace, schools, communities, and so on by our own black brothers and sisters, and the only excuse some select few can give us is that we sold them during slavery. Like nigga what? How is that supposed to further pan-Africanism and black unity as a whole? I bleed sometimes, watching my people cry 😢 because I know that while Africans can be quickly prejudiced, we are very loving and care about our brothers and sisters. There’s just that clash for the African Americans between being black and being American that although creating a unique culture for y’all in America, drives the resentment and just flat-out condescension towards Africans. Also one more thing I wanted to add is that Africans tend to be unhappy with African Americans because many of them do not understand why they do not work with the same passion and focus to succeed through education or other legal means like we do. Many Africans understand that the years of systematic oppression has kept the African Americans at a disadvantage in America and many atimes, it’s hard for lower class blacks that live in the hood to make it through education. But the thing is that Africans reason that if them, as immigrants from the mud are able to fight to succeed, then their black brothas and sistas should have that same drive too. This is a discussion and topic that still needs to be covered and dealt with extensively. I know that no matter the problems that we have now, there is always that inner joy and pride and love that shines in all our hearts as black people whenever we see each other and so I pray to God that he heals all our wounds and helped us to be able to truly love each other as a people so we can go forward.

Let’s keep in mind that before the 70’s most public black schools pushed African Americans into vocational professions so when you factor in the Great Society diminishing the black man’s role in the House by mandating that women don’t qualify if they live with one & combine that with the Deindustrialization of urban communities in the 70’s which greatly affected the vocational professions we were steered to, then you have created the formula for how to disenfranchise a community. Add in the War on Drugs by Nixon to target those same disenfranchised black men & the rest is history.

In fact, "whites" "African Americans" "Asian""russian" and "native americans" etc. are more closley related to each other than the aborigines that have been isolated from the rest of the human species for up to 60,000 years. That's a LONG TIME.

I'm beg to differ. Before I even knew what the difference was, after arriving in America, Us Africans as Children were told early on we were different and were mistreated by our AA brothers and sisters. I've been here since the late 80's. Not all Africans have this mentality. I think both cultures can learn now, it part of the divide/conquer history. Imagine the power if it wasn't like this. Africans from east/west north/south are made to feel separated as well even in our own continent. We love our African American Brothers n sisters we understand your struggle. We are proud of you that you have overcome all the B.S.

Ethiopia was OCCUPIED by the Italians. It was only through the assistance of the European Allied countries that they were able to repel or rid themselves of the Italians. Definitely not shear individual might. Plain luck, opportunity and having the right countries on your side.

I beg to differ on this one, I'm a black man born and raised in a Latin American country and the way I see black Americans act towards blacks who happen to speak another language ( mainly Spanish) is ridiculous like the level of mis information or what ever it may be is astounding. Like y'all did know that there is blacks around the globe and not all of them speak English

Will lol California should have Spanish as a first language just like Florida 😂 good for u that you can and are willing to answer in Spanish but most of us ( black men, mainly Americans) they don't even try to learn it so it's easier for them to mock you or just hate when another black man speak something other then English (you might say this is America , speak English and your right , but America was a free country last time I checked so I can speak anything I want as long as I'm addressing some who understands me )

Sorry, but if you're white or black or whatever and born in China, spent your whole life there, speak the language, etc. You are in fact Chinese. Now, you may have European or African HERITAGE but you are Chinese. This isn't hard to comprehend.
