I went to high school with this guy the bro Waka good to see he’s doing good things
Our marae have a wharenui or meeting house for our tribe. There’s a separate wharekai or dining hall and sometimes a separate cookhouse where the meals are prepared and a urupa or burial place. There’s a whole lot of ceremony and protocol wether you’re tangata whenua (host) or manuhiri (guest). The wharenui is used for gatherings like you said for everything in both life and death and the meeting house is treated respectfully like a living being as if you’re inside a body. All the photos on the wall are those who passed from that tribe so it’s spiritual as. It doesn’t get any more maori than being on the marae bro. It’s definitely a unique experience in this big world.

The green car you saw is called a “holden” ute. Holden is an Australian car brand. Some of them pretty cool but you’ll notice most people go for Japanese cars cause they’re the most reliable and cheap here. JDMs are real popular here like go to any car meet n u can see some of the best looking cars we have😂

This is where I was born, in Brisbane now but every time I go back for a holiday the feel is different, the stronghold seems to increase, apart from that the people are friendly and look after the elderly well, seafood is often gifted the the retirement housing areas at Christmas even thou they might not know them, awesome place but culture is hard to change, good to see these brothers trying
