    Thank you Tom. I knew from the moment I saw the Liberator in a man-cave that this guy knows what he is doing. You've explained it better than the manual and I didn't think to use it beyond a soldering iron, but I've just melted a plastic patch (from a box that peaches came in) onto a cracked piece of plastic. I wouldn't have thought of that without you.
    Seems like a solid little tool, and I've actually going to take it camping and use it as a quick-coffee stove.

    Thank you for taking the time to do this video, I picked one up over a year ago just incase I may need it one day and sure enough I now need it for soldering some led lights for my son. Good to see a run through of the iron before I start 👍

    That curved metal adaptor is definitely for shrinking heat shrink on electrical connections. I just bought the latest version of this.... Great tool for £12.99 already started using for auto electrical repairs where I work... used that adaptor is for just that purpose

    This little review was handy as I thought I'd purchased a dud one - Instructions are as clear as mud!! - Not as good as my Weller but for the money is ok..Thanks Tom

      thanks for the thanks swingmanic yes don't use mine a lot (see the review I did on the 'Pinecil' soldering iron for my goto iron) ...but this is still handy ...I use it mostly for heating shrink wrap tubing after soldering

    The heat spreader is for evenly spreading heat around heatshrink

    My Ferrex doesn't put out enough gas and the self spark doesn't. I think its filled but there is no way of knowing. It once worked.

      If its less than 3 years old and you got it from Aldi and you have the receipt hopefully you can get a replacement/refund

    Really useful video thanks for taking the time, mine didn't seem to come with a manual and I couldn't work out what all the buttons were for. As stated below the curved plate is for heat shrink used on its own or on crimp connectors used for automotive or other outdoor purposes....cheers Pete Derbyshire

      Thanks Pete...yes still use mine for heat shrink and stuff.

    Can the long tip be grinded/ sanded with a dremel tool to convert it to very fine tip for SMD work or when required for soldering very small electronic parts and fine pcb terminals or connections?

    • @TomsManShed
      @TomsManShed  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Manny... Not sure really ... obviously it won't be thermostatically controlled ...I would advise a hot air system for component removal and a more accurate conventional iron like a TS 100 or the Pinecil I did a review of.

    One problem I can't refill mine, gas everywhere and cold hands.. Anyone know of an adaptor please

  • @jamesmatan2978

    I bought one from Aldi and I have never been able to light it. Filled it with gas and I get the least little blue light that lasts a split second.

    • @TomsManShed
      @TomsManShed  3 года назад

      Maybe its a faulty one then James....they should be able to swap/refund no problem....mine lights 1st click every time and is a quite big flame.

    I just got a kit from ALDI: Taurus brand. But my flame guard is adjustable. I can adjust the holes. I don't really know what that's for when soldering. Any ideas?
    I also noticed that when soldering, residual heat burns the nearby area. Am I supposed to solder holding it straight up & down?

    • @TomsManShed
      @TomsManShed  2 года назад

      Not sure without seeing it but usually if you block of the holes you get a weaker lower temperature flame....having the holes fully open lets more air in so makes the flame bluer and hotter...like a Bunsen burner control but I would have to see it to be sure.
      Also you should be able to use it an any direction but when its low on gas using it totally horizontally may stop the liquid gas getting to the burner tip.

    I got one recently and I can not get it to keep the flame going.. it just stops as soon as the cigarette lighter goes out..

    • @TomsManShed
      @TomsManShed  Месяц назад +1

      Not sure what you mean by cigarette lighter but all i can say is check it is full of gas and the switch is turned on...if still not working you will have to contact Aldi.

      @@TomsManShed i can't starts it at all without a cig lighter.. i got it run but it always goes out, i locked it on but just goes out when it wants to. It's def faulty, i checked that everything is tight and fitted correctly. I i will need to find the docket and return it. i think i got dud...

      Hopefully you can get a refund/replacement ...I don't shop in Aldi often but I don't think their phone app stores digital receipts like the Lidl one does. This can be very handy if you lose the receipt as you can prove you purchased an item up to 4 years back....I just used it to get a replacement for a faulty shaver after 2 years 11 months ...it will be my next video.

    How did the cpu pin soldering go

    • @TomsManShed
      @TomsManShed  2 года назад

      Hi Adrian....not very well actually...not a fault of the equipment...just my lack of skill :) ....the pins are far smaller and trickier to do than I anticipated ....no harm was done as I used an old worthless CPU to practice on but a job for younger eyes I think :)

    How do you fill it with gas ?

    • @TomsManShed
      @TomsManShed  Год назад

      Just like filling a gas lighter....from a can of gas by ronson for instance.. there is a standard refill valve in the end of the handle
