Beating EVERY N64 Game - Pokémon Puzzle League (114/394)

  • What happens when you combine Pokemon with puzzles? Well I guess it's this game. Inspired by Tetris Attack, or Panel de Pon as it's known in Japan, this game brings the popular puzzle game to combine with a gaming titan. Is it fun, or is this a quick cash grab?

    I remember loving the 3D mode because if you scrolled your tiles up to the top of the screen, the console couldn’t keep up, and the game would lag, letting you pull off insane combos and chains.

    Interesting fact: There is even a harder mode than Very Hard. There is another input you can put that unlocks Super Hard, same ending with Mewtwo only harder.

      @loulou3676 Год назад +19

      Yeah, I knew somebody who could beat the game on the highest difficulty. At the very top levels of play, it's pretty much just both sides using those huge garbage blocks to make 12+ chains against each other while the Pokemon voices reverberate in the background.
      Glad to see Thab got to the point where the CHARRRR started echoing, that's when you know you're in it deep lol

    • @Flaming_Rok
      @Flaming_Rok Год назад +13

      @@loulou3676 So as someone who has actually played competitive Puzzle League, there's actually more depth than just "making huge garbage blocks". There's block management on your end and adding in smaller chains and combos can end up making some awkward block formations for the opponent. Obviously the grey blocks also add a bit of variance for obstructing and limiting options.

    I'm so happy with this video. This is one of the best N64 games and it is a shame it is so often overlooked. What I like the most was the fact your experience with the game was pretty much the same I had when I start playing it. You feel so lost at the beginning, staring at the screen to see where you can clear blocks, while towards the end you feel you are doing 100% of yourself to beat the AI on the very hard and still hoping for luck. The game does get very hard, but it is so much fun that you don't get bored by keep playing until you beat. Although the Mewtwo part is indeed very frustrating.

    I was really excited for this one! I remember when I first played that I had mixed feelings towards it: The game looked cool and had all the voices and music from the anime, so that was really cool, but... It was a puzzle game lol. Back then, I was used to playing Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Stadium, so when I first saw and played this one, I wasn't really sure if I liked it or not, especially because I had so much trouble playing it, it was really hard for my 5 year old mind to comprehend lol. Then, way later, when I was already in high school or college, I decided to give this game another try and ended up falling in love with the gameplay, it's just so fun! Still hard as balls, though, I would never even attempt to 100% it lol

      @@Eidenhoek I really enjoyed New Snap! I mean, it was something that I was waiting for more than 20 years, so seeing it finally becoming a thing almost made me shed a tear lol. I played it and had a lot of fun, although, and that might be considered a weird critic, I felt that the game was pretty overwhelming with the amount of things to do and see in it, especially at release. Like, there were so many requests from the other characters, often kinda cryptic about what we had to do, and then there interactions that were really hard to get, and 5 or 6 different versions of each area (research levels + different time of day).
      The graphics are amazing, the controls are amazing, the progression is amazing, the only complaint I have about it is the amount of things to do, it's weird to say that, but I would've loved it even more if they had dialed it a bit down. The original Snap is still my favorite and probably the reason why I felt New Snap was so overwhelming: OG Snap is too small and short, while New Snap is too big. If New Snap was something in between, it would probably be my favorite Pokémon game, I think lol.

    I played this game a ton when I was a kid! I could never beat Mewtwo on Super Hard. It’s still a goal of mine. I was so excited when I found out they were adding it to the N64 Expansion.

    This game looks fun, kinda want to play it now. While it looks like a challenge, it looks equally chill.
